'Recaptured by the Crime Lord' picks up with Lyla once again on the run. The shocking events that unfolded at the end of 'Crime Lord's Captive' sent her running for the hills again. However, this time she isn't alone. Her cousin/best-friend is with her every step of the way.

History repeats itself though, and Lyla cannot escape Gavin's grasp for long. This time around he takes his obsession to a new level, forcing her hand in marriage. Gavin has absolutely no intention of losing Lyla and will go to drastic means to possess her.

Gavin is back in full-force! He's as manipulative and controlling as ever, but I can't help but love this psychopath. He's dangerous and extremely volatile, but I just can't get enough!

Time has taken a toll on both of them, after book one's upsetting ending. Gavin has had to serve some time in prison. There is plenty of guilt and blame spread around, as well.

Gavin is still searching for the person responsible for the murders. Although he refuses to let Lyla go, he is also angry at her. He makes no qualms about breaking his promise to her and returning to his place at the head of the criminal enterprise, regardless of her feelings on the matter.

Like the first book, this follow-up is full of sexual tension and emotional turmoil. Gavin is every bit as unpredictable as he was the first time around. There is a bit of a role reversal, as the relationship between Lyla and Gavin gets more complicated with a baby on the way. The only thing that remains steady is his single-minded obsession with Lyla.

I am dying to see how things will work out and exactly who this mysterious "Phantom" is. This series continues to have me on the edge of my seat, completely immersed in the volatile relationship between Lyla and Gavin. If you like darker stories, I recommend this series. I'm on to the last book to see how things play out.

After numerous re-reads...Upgrade from 4 to 5 Stars

This was a nice follow up to the first book and I really like how it ended.

I don't really have much else to say about this one, being that it's the middle book and I don't want to spoil anything.

Also, I read this one immediately after the first one and have already started the third, so they are starting to run together.

Just happy that Gavin is going to be...getting back in the game.

5 IlovemymosterGavin stars!

It’s official I’m addicted to this series! So go good! Even if this installment didn’t have as much action as the previous it still had so much going on. This one was more centered on the fixing of Gavin and Lyla’s relationship all the turmoil they’ve had to deal with. Gavin, still as crazy as ever and relentless of his obsession of Lyla, while trying to figure out who the sadist killer is.

This author not only gives us action and violence but so much emotions there were parts that I wanted to scream and others cry my eyes out! I’m excited and nervous for book 3 but I’m so ready to finally know who the killer that has brought so much pain and betrayal to the Pyre family be brought down. ♥️

ohhhh. emmmmm. geeeeeee

This was a roller coaster of emotions… and I can’t wait to read book 3!

This book takes place 18 months after the end of book 1, when Lyla was recovering from basically dying after she was brutally attacked and she witness first-hand the death of Manny (😩😩😩MANNYYYYY 🥺🥺🥺). She and Carmen, who lost the love of her life Vinny, have been changing their identities, working different jobs, switching and moving from place to place, all to continue outrunning not only Gavin, but the people that want her dead.

Both Carmen and Lyla are different now. Life’s been cruel to both of them and both carry scars from it all. Lyla not only carries emotional scars, but physical and psychological ones as well. All seems to be going well, until she comes back from her daily run and finds Gavin in front of the cabin she’s been living in. So what does she do?

Well she runs of course 🤷🏻‍♀️. Except… Gavin catches her 😈 and pins her 👀 and forces her to marry him 😉. Sigh. Good job Gavin 😅.

What I liked/loved:
—how OBSESSED… like seriously… O B S E S S E D Gavin is with Lyla. Jesus Christ. He can’t stop spying on her, touching her, having her near him, watching her. Why? Well, he’s…

—over OVER… O👏🏻V👏🏻E👏🏻R protective of Lyla. He’s worse than a helicopter mom. Worse than a momma bear. This man hears her sneeze and he wants to make sure she’s okay. Like. For reals y’all. He’s OTT about it all… And I loved it 🥹🥰. I mean. It makes sense. He f’ed up in book 1 (😑😑😑), so he has to make A LOT of amends to his f up 🤷🏻‍♀️. Plus. Her life is literally on the line. I completely understand his OTTness

—Gavin’s regret for what he’s done in the past is sincere. We get his POV that really showcases his turmoil in what he’s done. Not only before he abducted Lyla in book 1 but what happened when she was recovering from her life-threatening injuries. I felt for him- felt how regretful and remorseful he was for his behavior. And now. Well, now he’s not doing what he was doing before. Why? Because…

—Lyla means EVERYTHING to him. E❤️V❤️E❤️R❤️Y❤️T H I N G❤️. He’ll sacrifice it all, his fortune, his power, his life… all for her 🥰🥹🥹🥹 SWOOOON!

—his addiction and reason for living is Lyla 🥰🥹❤️. Sigh. I mean. He can’t go long without seeing her, touching her, even if it’s not smexual. She calms him down. She’s the ying to his Yang. The peanut to his butter. The cream to his cheese. The… okay okay… you guys get it. He’s nothing without her 🥹😩❤️🥰

—how much Lyla has Gavin wrapped around her little finger 😈. He’s a huge, muscular man and yet she controls him with her eyes so easily 😉. Good job Lyla 💁🏻‍♀️

—her insecurities😞. Listen. I don’t necessarily love that she has these, but it’s completely understandable. I got emotional when she revealed the physical scars she bears. Every time she had flashbacks were punches in my gut as well. She has the atrocities done to her and her loved ones engraved in her skin. I just wanted to hug her

—BR€€DING!!! Sigh. Yaaaaasss 👏🏻👏🏻😈😈😈 you gotta do what you gotta do Gavin 💁🏻‍♀️💅which means

—the smexxy times🔥. It’s very telling how much I loved this book when the 🔥 times aren’t even the first things I write about. But. My gosh. Gavin and Lyla 😅🔥. Jeeezus 💦 from their first reunion in the back of the car to the office visits to the various places anywhere and everywhere… these two were insatiable, and I was here for it all 💁🏻‍♀️😅😈🥵. Listen. Gavin had 18 months to make up for lost time, and boy, does he ever 😉

—the side characters, especially Carmen. I can’t wait to read her book. I’m interested in seeing how MK gives her an HEA considering she constantly talks about her deceased hubby

—BEAU 😩❤️🥰. This pit Bull stole a piece of my heart! Gahhhh! I hate how people assume the worst because of his breed, but this dog is the most faithful, most devoted dog Lyla could ever have ❤️. He’s an asset🥹

—how JP Gavin is. I mean. It’s kind of implied with the first bullets, but Gavin gets jealous of any smile Lyla gives to any man… of her cousin time… of the love she has for another male- Beau- doesn’t matter that he’s a dog lol. But I actually found it kind of cute 🤣

—how emotional/angsty it got. Sigh. Makes sense. So much happened and continues to happen

What I wanted more of:
—I wouldn’t have minded if Lyla have Gavin the cold-shoulder for a while longer 😑😑. What he did was f’ed up. But… the poor guy suffered a lot. He went to j a i l… but either way, making suffer even more in person would’ve been good for me 😈 bahahaha

—more details in their 🔥 times. MK sure knows how to write scenes. Sometimes they were over too quick for me 😑 lol. I loved them all though

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing/owd/omd
-no condoms/the H wants her pregnant
-the h keeps remembering when she was cut up/the killing of H’s father
-one is the H’s colleagues flirts with the h. The H goes all hulk whenever it happens. The colleague does it on purpose lol
-violence/bloodshed/death
-ends in a cliffy

Loved it! Great second book in this series. Often times I find that the second book lags for me. But, this one totally worked. Maybe a tad slow in parts, but definitely not boring. Will be moving on to the next in the series soon!

Lyla and Gavin’s story keeps me entertained from start to finish. Gavin with his over the top alpha behavior and it’s so good! Lyla finding her place and voice is one of things I enjoyed in Recaptured by the Crime Lord. She kicks ass and has Gavin by the balls when it’s necessary. These two are so much fun and hot as hell. They can’t seem to catch a break and it ends with a tiny cliffy. Lyla’s cousin Carmen, Gavin’s bodyguard Blade and business partner Marcus are some very fascinating secondary characters. There’s plenty of story left and I’m excited to read it.

Well...I expected more from the plot for this book. To me it felt almost like a filler for the third book. The first 20% of the story was like the first book, where the main couple wasn't on good terms. But after that the story picked up. The only thing that I wasn't a fan of was the ending. It's a cliffhanger, so no HEA for us - yet. What I liked more in this book was Lyla's attitude. She stood up more for herself and knew what she wanted. And maybe Gavid was more likable. Still OTT, that's for sure, but that part totally works for me. I like my heroes go crazy for the woman they love. I think the third book will be the best one, since we'll get all the answers and also the HEA for this couple, hopefully.

Once again I’m late to the party so I’ll keep my review short.

I struggled initially with this due to Lyla. But once I’d settled in I enjoyed it more than the previous one.

Okay. The sequel is polarizing and there are moments I want to strangle both Lyla and Gavin. Then there's Carmen who's still nosy as hell.

Back from the scratch, Gavin went out on a search again for Lyla after he got out of prison. Lyla grieves from the tragedy she went through and was forced to marry Gavin which I find really toxic. It's not an arrange marriage. They're meant for each other and I just wish Gavin could be less forceful and earn Lyla's forgiveness.

Lyla needs to accept her husband is meant to be the crime lord. I have my guesses who it might be but we'll see.

This book is more a lull before the storm that'll be book #3.

It begins with the 'Recapturing'. Only this time Gavin is more hands on and goes to get her himself.
Following the gruesome happenings at the end of Book #1, Lyla and Carmen had taken off in a RV. Now a year and half later, he tracks them down in Montana. He forcibly marries her. Again more conscience-less blackmail. This time it's a gun on Carmen's head.
With Gavin, it's always his way and no other.
“Most women would be flattered by Gavin’s adamant claim on her. She was terrified. Gavin’s love bordered on obsession. He would never let her go. She would never be free of Gavin Pyre so what did that mean for her future?”

During their separation, Gavin had gone to prison for a year for money laundering. No other charge could stick and while he's away, a new and secretive crime lord has replaced him.
So, again she holds out for a while before realizing that she loves him etc. and they have an almost normal, loving marriage.
He promises (again) to stay away from Crime Lord business. But anyways, that crown has been taken.
“I’m out of the business and walking a straight line right to you. ”
She gets a dog and also gets pregnant towards the end.

Few new characters like Marcus, his casino business COO, are introduced. And two other women in his staff.
The Sadist/Specter stays off pages but makes few half hearted attempts at her life but she escapes.
We see her become tough, resilient and also kick-assy in this one.
By the end, she's killed a few bad guys, and asks Gavin to go back to dark side and kill the F*cker and end the whole thing, once and for all.
If only, it was so easy ...

FML! Another dramatic cliffhanger! What in the actual hell??!!!! Ok tantrum over.....

First allow me to covey I DO NOT condone violence against women. This delicious sequel is a work of fiction. An epic work of fiction! With that being said KUDOS to my dude Gavin! The woods scene in Montana leading up to the scene on the airplane.....BEST scenes ever!!! Ermagawd Gavin is such a CAVEMAN!!!! A psychotic deranged Caveman and I absolutely LOVE HIM!

Didn't think it could be possible but this story is as good, if not better, than book one! Man oh man! Lyla has really evolved since book one. She is more than capable of handling Gavin and their enemies.

This story is action packed, a total adrenaline rush! I'm so incredibly happy I gave this story a chance! It's definitely a go to series when I'm in a book funk!

Five stars!

Well I still don't like Gavin, he's a selfish asshole, he thinks of Layla as a possession and an object to him, he doesn't care at all about her, I didn't feel his love, and I could say she didn't love him either, she just wanted to survive him.
She's spineless, she hates him one second, and then she's having sex with him and in love with him again.
I still hate her cousin tho.

Is it just me or Lyla is more annoying than the she was in the first book? Whenever she threw a tantrum on Gavin, it just strikes my nerve. She was pissed that Gavin didn't care for her when she was at the hospital but also pissed that he went after her after he was released from jail.

I do appreciate the minimal amount of violence that the second book has. I must admit the first one shook me a little and while I don't mind group violence once in a while (in novel of course, never in real life!) any kind of mutilation disturbs me a great deal.

Still loving the chemistry between Lyla and Gavin. Still hoping for less Carmen. I know Carmen is somewhat a fan favorite but personally, I can do less of her.

Why is the heroine low key racist? What’s her obsession with “ethnic ppl” as the author puts it.

Girl who tf cares if the girls the man cheated on you were black. Asian . Hispanic or Indian. What does it matter if they were. Like he cheated on you isn’t that the bigger problem babe?

Spoilers ahead

GAVIN WHY. First thought of this book. I was so honestly heart broken when Gavin lost Vinny and Manny and turned into a cold unfeeling version of his former self. He was so totally changed and then he tracked her down to manhandle her then threatened to hurt Carmen if she didn't marry him. Lets just be clear that I know he wouldn't have hurt Carmen even though he threatened to. I know he's lying because he knows he can't come back from hurting Carmen, Lyla would never forgive him. As for the forced marriage Lyla said what I was feeling about that...

“We’re as married as your father is alive.”

GOOOO LYLA. She was so awesome this book so even though I usually do the guys first so I can talk about how god awful they are or how ungodly beautiful they are but for this one I'll start with Lyla because she was sooooo amazing in this book.
Lyla
She had an amazing change. I loved how angry she was. I know thats weird to love but before she was so scared and now she's just angry and I think thats amazing because she doesn't get sad and wallow she gets angry and does something. So lets name all of Lyla's savage moments.

When she told Gavin to go fuck himself when he tried to act like everything was ok

“What am I doing here, Gavin?”
“I told you.”
She glared at him. “You said you wanted everything I promised.”
“Yes.”
“There were conditions,” she reminded him in case he forgot. “You broke your end of the deal.”
“I did,” he acknowledged.
“So you can renege on your end and I can’t? Fuck you, Gavin!”

description

*applauds Lyla*

When Lyla brought up his messed up behavior after she was hurt

“I’m sorry, Lyla.”
“Don’t say that to me! Don’t you dare say that now!”
“What do you want me to say?”
“Nothing. Just like you did in the hospital.”

description

Didn't see it coming and was pleasantly surprised.

When Lyla punched her dad

“Manny Pyre?” her father scoffed. “He got what he deserved.”
Lyla wasn’t aware that she moved. One moment she was staring at him with a good ten feet between them and the next she was in his face. Her fist flashed out and collided with her dad’s mouth. He stumbled back and fell to the ground, cursing. Lyla stood over him with her fists clenched, shaking like crazy.
“Don’t you ever talk about Manny like that!”

description

“If I ever hear you talk about my family again, you better hope I’m not armed, you son of a bitch! You’re lucky I didn’t let them finish you off, you worthless piece of crap!”

description

Last but not least. Lyla being a master 'negotiator'

“Did you just bribe me into giving more money to a school?” he asked.
“Maybe.”

description

I loved Lyla so so much in this book she grew so much and became such a reasonable rational person and I loved how badass she was. I also loved how she adopted the pit bull, that was so adorable. Lyla was just soooooo great.

Gavin
WHY GAVIN. I couldn't stop saying it the first chapter. HE TACKLES HER, and FORCES HER TO MARRY HIM. Like are you crazy?? He threatened one of the best characters in existence,Carmen, and he called her worthless and introduced her as 'Vinny's widow' Like someone hold me back.

description

No one should be talking about my love,Carmen, like that. Disrespectful SOB.
He got better thankfully but he sure as shit made me angry. I still love Gavin, he's crazy but he's crazy for Lyla and their love is everything you wish you could find with someone. Even though they're crazy I love them, and its not like the crazy is ever going to end because he's just gonna keep stalking her no matter what so.... "If you can't beat them join them."
I see a pattern emerging or at least a reoccurrence. He messes up detrimentally and then drags Lyla back and hovers around and persists until she agrees to give him another chance.

“I swear, baby girl, I won’t let you down this time.”

YOU BETTER NOT.

New people
Marcus was so funny and I love him and Carmen I feel like that would be amazing and would really help Carmen find herself again. I feel for Carmen right now, she doesn't know who she is as a person anymore she lost her husband, Manny, and her Dad. I feel like Marcus would be a perfect fit because he's so bold and real he could really help Carmen.

Beau is so cute!!!! He's loyal and he's like the physical animal version of Gavin because we all know Gavin is an animal but just looks like a hot human. Beau was so sweet and I love dogs so I automatically loved him.

Blade. He's obviously not new but we learned so much more about him in this book and I genuinely respect him now. He was just sort of a bully and loyal bodyguard who has some redeeming qualities the first book and now I feel like we know him more and he's really just a tough, amazingly loyal, caring man. He's Gavin's closest thing to a father or best friend and he's Lylas protector and friend. He's helpful and smart and there for you when you need him. Blade warmed my heart this book he was there for both Lyla's needs and Gavin's this time and I think thats what made me feel like he was truly apart of their little family.

Alice is quirky and relatable. I loved how naive or rather inexperience she was. She was really nice to have around even if she didn't do much. It just reminded me how much Lyla had changed because before she knew about Gavin and what he did it seems like she would have been someone alike to Alice in the way she just wants to do her work and she's focused on other things and doesn't have any idea about the underground criminal world right under her nose. She was kind and I loved how passionate she was.

Nora is just a baby but I can't wait to see how she affects Gavin and Lyla's relationship and I love her already.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE. More crazy love, I can't get enough.

PS: RIP to Manny. I loved him so much and how he died killed me a little bit. His relationship with Lyla was beautiful and I was so sad when she called him dad at the end. I cried. Manny was just my kind of person and to see him die for all his past sins when he was retired and old and still badass makes me sad. RIP Manny *crying*

5 Alpha Stars

Reread April 2020
Mia Knight is finishing book 5 in the series very soon, and I decided to do a reread to get reacquainted with the characters. My thoughts? Wow, Gavin Pyre needs to be locked up. He's that crazy in love. Except, I want to be locked up with him. Just throw away the key, so I can love this crazy, possessive bastard without interruptions. I. Love. Him.

This series is still 5 Stars for me. It's fast-paced and action-packed with a suspense factor. It's steamy and romantic with a big side of delicious groveling from the hero. And it's very dark. Really, it's all my favorite things.

Original Review:
I can say many things about this book, but all I really want...is to focus on Gavin Pyre.

Gavin. Pyre.

Here are a few descriptions straight from Lyla's mouth:

"God, Gavin was a possessive psycho."

"He was rough around the edges—animalistic, merciless, and savage."

"He was overprotective, oversexed, and overbearing."

Yes, he's all of those things and I love every bit of him. He's no Prince Charming; he's better. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, I know, but he's exactly mine!

—"You have to be the most primitive man on the planet.”
—“Most men are like me, but they suffocate their beast beneath a layer of politeness and civility. I don’t bother.”

Book 3, here I come!

Book 1, Crime Lord's Captive, is FREE on Amazon right now. Go get him! Gavin will hold your panties captive ;)

I kind of love this series. The titles are so dumb and the covers are so embarrassing but Mia Knight is actually such a fantastic writer. I thought these books would just be mindless erotica with no plot, but that is not the case at all.

I'm totally engrossed in Lyla and Gavin's story. Speaking of Gavin. I love him. He's such a violent psycho but I can't help but find him adorable. He's evil but so vulnerable and endearing at the same time. His love for Lyla is crazy, yet very beautiful.

The large cast of characters are all very fleshed out, and the storyline is incredibly addictive. Mia Knight knows how to pace a story and make sure there are no boring moments.

If you're looking for a fantastic dark romance series, I highly recommend these books. Little bit obsessed.

TW: Non con (but only in the first book), violence, murder.

Gripping series

I am really enjoying this series. The mystery of the identity of the new crime lord really has me riled up. I have my guess at who it is, but I'll just have to wait and see if I'm right in the next book.
This book thrilled me with a forced marriage (one of my favorite book tropes) by an overly obsessive alpha (one of my other romance book favorites). A killer combination. Throw in a loyal bodyguard who secretly has a heart, and sees all, and I'm all about these Sin City characters. More Gavin! More Lyla! More Carmen! More Blade! And... for sure more Eli! ;)
Can't wait for the next book to see how completely bonkers Gavin goes now that he finally has what he wants, and it is being threatened. Lyla has unleashed the lion.

Can a character in this book follow through on one thing that they say they're gonna do? Just one!?

"Hey babe, I'm soooo sorry that you were nearly stabbed to death while watching someone you love being murdered, personally molested, and forced into marriage at gunpoint. My bodyguard sedated me that one time and that is the only reason I was an asshole."

"Ohhh ok. I'm still kinda mad but give me ten pages and I'll love you again and be totally over it!"

The hero is irredeemable at this point. I wish that Lyla would be the one to go to the dark side and mr. sedatives turn me into a major asswipe would have to switch roles. Or she should shoot him! Who knows, maybe she will later on, but I don't seem to care enough to find out.

Recaptured by the Crime Lord is book 2 in the Crime Lord series. While I really enjoyed it I didn't love it as much as the first book in this series. I enjoyed Gavin and Layla actually having a relationship but I did get a little bored with the day to day workings of their relationship. With that said I'm still loving Gavin. He is even worse that in book 1 with his possessive, dominate, obsessive ways towards Layla. He's actually pretty psychotic but I just can't get enough of him. I liked Layla a lot more in this book, I enjoyed watching her grow and not let Gavin push her around. Oh boy on to book 3 Gavin has been set loose.

Loved it, but I want book 3 now.

Gavin is something else. I really liked how he is completely obsessed with Lyla, bordering on psychotic, but the author pulled this off. I also liked how Lyla is coming into her own.

I want Carmen to have a book, but I'm not sure who I want for her.

This series is addictive. I'm completely engrossed because there's rarely a dull moment. I usually shy away from cliffhangers, but if the author can fill the pages with relevant plot, dialogue and awesome characters then it's an exception.

I am enjoying the plot and the author has me gripped but I feel gutted every time i realised the hero cheated on the heroine. I wish they had split for different reasons. This story would have been so much better!! Cheating is such a NO NO for me. Please Mia Knight don't have cheating in your stories. It really sucks to hear how H could be turned on by others that aren't heroine.
