The Bachelor Contract is book three in The Bachelors of Arizona series by Rachel Van Dyken. From the start I’ve been hooked on these Wellington brothers in this series. Raised by their Grandfather and each broken in their own way. I think perhaps Brant is the most broken of the three. We met him in the previous books but didn’t know what darkness he harbored within him. I want to admit up front that this book was pretty emotional, almost too much for me. Although there is also plenty of humor, I found myself walking that fine line bordering on feeling overwhelmed. What this says of the author is that she did a great job of drawing me into the book and feeling the emotions she strived to illustrate. I don’t always deal well, though, with too much sadness and this one was right on the brink.

It’s been four years since the divorce between Brant Wellington and his wife, Nikki. Life dealt them a one two punch, two losses that were too great for their marriage to withstand. Anger, self blame, grief, and words that can never be taken back drove them permanently apart. In the four years since, Brant has done his best to numb the loss with alcohol and women. But none of it worked. Nadine is up to her conniving ways and convinces Brant to work for her at a new hotel resort she has purchased. He is to spend a week there evaluating things. Brant is determined to clean up, dry out, and do this job. It’s what he needs, a fresh start.

female masseuse

Nikki is a masseur at the spa in the hotel Brant is traveling to. She’s been working here since the divorce. If it weren’t for her best friend, Cole, that runs the hotel, she wouldn’t have survived. Nikki is blind. She can see vague shapes and swirls of color but that’s all. She hasn’t seen Brant in four years. When she enters the room for her next appointment, there is something about the client, a familiar scent. She feels things she hasn’t felt in four long years. What is it about this man that is affecting her this way?

“Death had a way of breaking the living. And maybe that was why they didn’t survive. Because they were both halves of a whole that didn’t make it. Maybe that was their destiny, to always be in each other’s lives but never get the happy ending.”

blind woman with cane

As Nikki and Brant are finally forced to face each other, they are also forced to relive the events that drove them apart. But they are also finally given the chance to say the things that should have been said four years ago. To finally talk through things. They both had so much that needed to be said. Can they now heal and move on separately? Or perhaps is this a second chance for their love to once again blossom?

This book wasn’t without humor. The entire Wellington family comes to Brant’s aid when he needs them. And then there is Cole, Nikki’s friend. A man who has been in love with Nikki from the start but kept himself in the friend zone because he knew that Nikki still loved her husband. At first his attempts to keep them apart were comical. But then, as a best friend, he helps them to come together. I would actually like to see more of Cole. I really liked him and felt so bad for him. He deserves his own chance now for a happy ending.

kiss

“She was his. She’d been his since the minute he walked into that bar. She would always be his.

She was real. In his arms. I’d find you anywhere, his heart beat.”

love in braille

This is a true love story. These two were each other’s first loves. But even though life broke them apart, their love never diminished. Now, with this second chance, they need to forgive each other and more importantly, forgive themselves. With a love that strong, it deserves a second chance.

I don't honestly know how I survived this book because these characters broke my heart. Reading how devastated they both were had me tearing up so much throughout the story, especially Brant.

Brant was just a mess and completely losing his shit when this book opened up. I felt so many emotions for him because his pain was right there on the surface as he was trying so hard to hide it. He was one of those characters that I wish was real just so I can hold him and make him feel better.

He had Nikki for that though and I loved them together when they could actually be in the same room and not fight. That pain that they were both hiding, not so well, got even bigger when they were together because it was so hard for them to see one another. But with Brant's family butting in and pushing them together as much as possible it made them stop and actually talk.

Seeing them heal their wounds together was the most heart-skipping-a-beat moment. As much as they broke my heart, they put it right back together with their sweetness and I loved that. It wasn't an easy journey but they got their together and experiencing that with them had me loving their story.

I’ve always enjoyed RVD books. Her writing always capturing my attention. She didn’t let me down in this book, however my heart broke reading this installment. My heart hurt for Brant & Nikki both. Four years ago their lives were completely shattered. They suffered the greatest loss and their relationship completely shattered.

Now four years later Brant comes face to face with his ex-wife for the first time, an ex-wife he’s never gotten over. He has numbed himself with drugs and women to try and forget what he lost. That doesn’t work, at all. Under the drugs and nasty line of women, Brant is an incredible, handsome, and loving person. When his world shattered and he lost EVERYTHING, he gave up, he needed to just simply forget. What would he do if he knew not everything he thought was true, wasn’t really true after all.

Nikki suffered tremendously during this book. Life completely throws her one thing after another, basically all at once, in a matter of days she loses everything that matters in her life. She lost her soulmate and never gives herself to anyone else afterwards, knowing that she still loves the man that destroyed her heart. If given the chance to redo a tragedy, would you rewrite it?

This story.... The love between these two characters is so strong. Even though they lost one another, their love for each other never stopped. This book is about second chances, grabbing on, giving yourself that one last chance to feel that heartstopping feeling. This story is about forgiving and moving on, life gives you a second chance, you grab it and run. If you love a good second chance true love story, this is one for you. A stand alone read ❤️

This was the last book in the Bachelor auction series and believe me it was an emotional read! Considering how heavy of a read it was, I couldn’t put it down!! Brant and his ex-wife had a ton of baggage; but when they worked through it, a beautiful relationship emerged!

This series is well worth the read!!!

Title: The Bachelor Contract (The Bachelors of Arizona #3)
Author: Rachel Van Dyken
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: November 28, 2017

ARC

This book was a surprise.
Even before the first chapter ended, I was gutted, my heart hurt for these two souls.
The Bachelors Contract was not what I expected. It wasn't one of my favourite second chance romance book but It still was heartwarmingly blissful. It would never be a RVD book without it's dose of sexiness and My God did she provide that.

I didn't like Brant at the beginning, He was a moody S.O.B who was short tempered, cocky and just rude! But slowly, you fall for him once you realise that his anger is misplaced. He had so much anger especially towards himself for having lost it all.
Nikki is a saint with a dash of mischief. I am absolutely in awe of her. Her strength and determination is aspirational.

Brant and Nikki, their past, it shattered me. Their struggle was heartfelt and haunting.

I have always been a huge fan of Rachel Van Dyken, her books are an immediate 'buy' for regardless of what genre they may be. But I strive to be honest, This wasn't my favourite book from her. Was it a good book? Yes it was. It just wasn't up to par with what I feel a RVD book should be.
Would I suggest the book to someone? Yes I would. It was a beautiful second chance romance with all the sadness, love, angst, anxiety and humour that we love.

Note: This book had a lot of good secondary characters. Brock and Bentley were hilarious! Cole? Bless his soul for his loyalty! Nadine Titus? Some would say she's Satan but I choose to believe she's an angel in disguise... a very good disguise...thats very hard to be with in a room for longer than a minute. lol!

I agree with another reviewer that this author writes the worst “hero’s” but I also think her “heroine’s” are too damn weak and needy. This is my last book by this author her books with her main MCs are too unlikeable for me.

Compellingly addictive with a passion that had me glued to my seat from start to finish. A story about heartbreak, pain and anger conquered by hope and infinite love. Oh the feels!!

I have loved the Bachelors of Arizona as individual standalone stories and a series. The dynamic between each couple and as a family has been unique and intriguing with secrets and pain and so much love necessary to heal beaten, battered hearts. For the past four years, Brandt’s life has been defined by pain, guilt and a necessity to numb all the ugly emotions that threatened to knock him down. I met him in book one but hadn’t a clue as to how deeply his feelings thundered within. But he let them loose, lashed out and I felt it.

The story begins in the present and has small glimpses from the past from which the reader can understand the incredible love he had for his wife and the events that led to the demise of their marriage and his complete misery. I won’t spoil you so let’s continue... From having everything, Brandt was left with nothing as his life was ruined by one too many tragedies. Choosing to anesthetize his feelings he had spent the last four years drowning in alcohol and faceless hookups.

But when Brandt refuses fulfill his bachelor contract and go out with his ex-wife who bought him for a date in a charity event, his meddling family presents him with a challenge he can’t refuse, unknowing that he’d be working side by side with the love of his life.

Nikki had no one after her split from Brandt, forced to get a job as a masseuse she made the resort’s employees her family and the sexy concierge became her best friend who tried to run interference when Brandt arrived, but there was only so much Cole could do before the these two broken halves of a single whole would come face to face and tackle the past and their mistakes.

As their walls slowly lower, we see how much they both suffered, how guilty and helpless Brandt felt and how his love for her has never diminished. My heart broke for both of them, for what they lost, for their time apart, but at the same time it delighted when they both realize that love can heal the rawest wounds and theirs is worth fighting for.

As lovely and heartfelt as this story was, I also need to mention that this wasn’t all heavy feelings. There were moments of fun and levity, mixed with flirty sexiness that balanced everything out. But yes, expect to lose your heart to Brandt and Nikki and their emotionally naked tale of second chances.

The Bachelor Contract is book #3 in the Bachelors in Arizona series by Rachel Van Dyken. It is a full length contemporary romance. Told from both points of view with a happy ending.

Waste of my time. Brant is a dick who couldn't keep his dick in his pants. The drinking I can almost get, but the whoring, no way what a piece of shit! Grow up.

The heroine is pathetic, just takes him straight back (after his 4 years of fucking around non-stop). Let's just call her the perfect "martyr".

Really pathetic story. Last time I will read this author. She writes the WORST H's!

I should "1 star" this book, folks, but I did enjoy Cole, a subcharacter, so upped my rating on his behalf. He was AWESOME!!! LOVED how he always gave the hero a hard time. Though I had main character issues the writing was engaging, as well, until the somewhat sappy final conclusion.
-------------------
Toxic love would be a better title for this one, my fellow romance book loving friends. Actually, scrap that, because the hero’s behavior most of the time wouldn’t fall under the love category. He was certainly toxic to her, as he was like a poisoned apple she couldn’t say no to.

This couple has a sad past in this second chance tale. They might be mourning the loss of what they had, but I’m drowning in sorrow about what could have been myself. This should have been an epic read, folks.

Instead, what I got was a drunken all the time, parties every night manho, sometimes with drug using prostitutes, who was not celibate during the four years after the couple’s sad breakup. All while, of course, she stayed celibate the entire time. It is a personal beef with me when the leading lady is still so wrapped up in love she couldn’t possibly be with another man, while the manho hero uses his broken heart as an excuse to screw anything that moves. Like it is somehow his right and the only way for him to find healing and closure.

The spa scene felt wrong because they didn’t know who each other were in the dark, though they kept inadvertently thinking about the other. The fact he was the owner and she an employee, well, don’t even get me started on that. It felt like she was just going to be another one of his mindless sexcapades he’s had over the last four years. She lost a big chunk of my respect and dignity in the process of that scene. Though she was likeable, I didn’t like her being on a date with Cole, a close friend who wanted to be her boyfriend, then see her leave with Brant to have a good-bye ONS. I was so repulsed by the idea I thought I was going to puke. Brant mentally kept thinking it was the goodbye screw he deserved for what she put him through in the past. H-E-L-L-O! Who’s the one that ended up blind??? Who’s the one who has suffered the most these last four years? Blind, poor as dirt, broken hearted, and still carrying a torch for him. Yeah, she got the raw end of that deal. Yet, he always acted like he was the only wounded party. He was so hurtful when he found out who she was. It was unbelievable, folks.

I absolutely loved Cole, despite his implied manho reputation. It was hilarious how he at first tried to protect her from Brant. He was absolutely awesome! The pool scene was epic! It’s pretty sad when you find yourself wishing the heroine would sleep with her best friend instead of the leading man. In fact, I was thrilled when Cole gave her a quick kiss to dream about. I wanted Brant to suffer..suffer...then suffer some more.

Oh, there’s more. She starts taking on the blame for Brant’s past behavior. Then he offers her money after sleeping with her. Then he plays the let’s be friends card, all while pushing her out his bedroom door.

OK. That’s enough. My rant is over. You get the point. Sure, he “finally” at the end sees the light. But it’ll be up to you if you want the journey to get there. This author’s writing style is wonderfully engaging. I just wish she choose better character portrayal. Would it have been too much to ask for to have the hero also celibate? If four years wasn’t too long for the heroine, why not the hero, as well? How about her coming across strong and making him really work to get back in her good graces, instead of falling into bed with him? Yeah, all sorts of better scenarios come to mind, but it is what it is.

This is the third Bachelors of Arizona book and is Brant's story. Now Brant is a hot mess. He is numbing his pain and loss in unhealthy ways and is angry, lost, guilt-ridden, and broken. His self worth took a major hit and he is just not happy in life.

His ex-wife Nikki's life also changed in the course rapidly and her life was never the same either. Four years later, she is still hurt, angry, and trying to deal with the fall-out from the past. She has made a new life with new friends, but she is not truly fulfilled.

When Grandma Nadine and his Grandfather and family get involved it can only mean trouble. He should have guessed that his new job was going to have a catch. But he never dreamed it would be seeing the woman he lost years ago everyday at work. And neither of them are really ready for that.

There is antagonism, avoidance, fear, longing, sexual tension, and a ton of unresolved feelings going on. There is a thin line between love and hate and they are riding it. They really had no closure and made mistakes in a time that they were both suffering and did not know how to deal with it. Decisions were made in haste without all of the information and they both have suffered the consequences and could not forget.

But as they begin to spend more time together, some engineered by the nosy family surrounding them, they start to look at their lives both past and present. There is good, bad, and really bad, but they are also opening up to more of a promise of hope that things could change for the better.

But Brant is skilled at fight or flight and sometimes says the wrong things. And when he is confused, it seems to be worse. But as he starts to really look at what he left behind, the picture gets clearer. And he could also actually be sweet, thoughtful, and swoony if he put his mind to it.

Nikki is strong and independent minded, but she has to be. Her life has not been easy and required her to make changes. And now that Brant is back, she has to figure out if she can open herself up to him and risk being hurt again. Life in her own little place is safe and predictable, but Brant is definitely not either of those things.

They still have the same physical and emotional connection from before that was never really extinguished. But they have built up guards around their hearts for self protection. And in order to move on, they will have to face their demons and decide whether they will let the pain sweep them away alone again or if they can hold hands and get through it together. Although they had a foundation built when they were younger, they will have to learn the new people that they have become.

This was fun, emotional, heartbreaking, sexy, and sweet. This has Rachel Van Dyken's trademark humor and comedy, but there are also some heavy and emotional topics. Sometimes it is a bit all over the place with the fast pace and swinging emotions, but it kind of fit with Brant's personality. He was a bit hard to warm up to when he was in his angry a-hole stage. Nikki was easy to like, but I also felt bad for her since she had been through so much.

The meddling side characters really bring the humor, teasing, and support when needed. His brothers, Brock and Bentley are back along with their new loves. Grandma Nadine and Grandfather Charles are still scene stealers with their overbearing need to control their family's lives. Nikki's best friend Cole was awesome. He was charming, witty, and sharp and really kept Brant on his toes. But I loved how he treated Nikki. I wonder if he might pop up sometime in a future story as Nadine has her eye on him and when Nadine gets a wild hair to be a matchmaker....

DNF at 51%.

Okay, my bad, I've realised that I don't get on with Rachel Van Dyken's novels so it's on me for requesting a book by her. The trouble is she changes genre and the 'look' of her books so I don't instantly recall that I don't like her writing and then it's too late.

Anyway, I liked the look of the cover and the blurb sounded good so I requested an ARC.

All that aside, or taking that into account, this was just one big hot mess for me. Brant and Nikki were married, they were young and poor and they married in the face of his wealthy family's disapproval. They were blissfully happy until she lost their baby, he wasn't there to support her (because he too was devastated) and then something happened (I'm pretty sure I know what happened but it is clearly something the reader is supposed to discover slowly).

In the present Nikki is practically blind and she is a masseur in a very up-market resort which Brant's family has just acquired. Brant is blackmailed into taking his aunt's place to spend a week at the resort reviewing the staff and facilities. Ever since whatever happened, Brant has been a broken man, spending his days drunk and whoring around he is full of hate and self-loathing. At first he thinks he is hallucinating about Nikki, Nikki's boss tells him the masseur is deaf and he tells Nikki that her client is dumb (or vice versa) so it takes them both a while to realise that it is each other.

Nikki goes around crying at the drop of a hat, Brant spends his days drinking whisky, they kiss and have sex and then leave each other, rinse and repeat. At over half way through there didn't seem to be any plot, there was no progression and I disliked both of them.

My apologies Rachel, I promise I won't request any more of your books.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Unlikeable characters, lack of communication mixed with a lot of toxicity and dumb decisions in 336 pages.

That's what this book is about, ladies and gents.

And that's always a 'no'.

This book is about a married couple who lost their child and then their apartment burnt down and our heroine lost her sight in that accident.

So instead of talking to each other, supporting one another, like two loving people would normally do, she blames him for everything, they divorce and he starts drinking like a fish and whoring around and our heroine decides to become the biggest martyr in the entire world. For 4 fucking years.

And then they meet again, sleep together, he treats her like shit, sis is all needy and pathetic. Then they decide they still love each other and they should be together.

And that's where my favourite part comes in this mess, when our dumb sis has an epiphany and says that maybe, after losing a child, your partner also suffers and maybe they too need support just as much as the mother. And I seriously started laughing at this point. Because, come on, ar you fucking kidding me now?
That dumb bitch didn't know that before??????? *rubbing my eyes

That's a shocking revelation, right? *le sigh

So that's what happens. They start talking, get back together and that's what this book is about.
And the idea perhaps was good but the execution was way beyond meh.

I didn't like the characters, I hate it when the lack of communication is used as a driving force in a book, I am definitely not a fan of weak pathetic heroines like Nikki or manwhore assholes like Brent.
This book is definitely a miss and I think this author isn't for me. That's the second book from her that I didn't like. I don't think I'll read anything more from her.

I've been waiting for Brant's story and I knew that it would be chocked full of drama considering what a hot mess he was in the last book.

Brant is all sorts of broody, he's a time bomb and is literally on the road to destruction in this book.
Nikki dear gawd she has gone through so much I couldn't even imagine how she manages each day.
Watching these two reunite was hilarious at times, gut wrenching at others and literally had me wrapped up in them.

There is a lot of pain with Brant and his ex-wife Nikki. So much heartache and tragedy I wasn't sure how these two would be able to deal with each other. A lot of hurt existed between the two of them.
There are a few funny moments in this book which helps offset a lot of the heavy we get with their story.

The side characters in this book were just the best and never failed to pipe up and have their say which entertained me to no end whether it was one of the brothers, Nadine Titan and her meddling ways, even Cole had me smiling from ear to ear. I really do hope we get a story about Cole by the way.

Overall this was a great read, it was full of pain, loss, hurt, anger as well as forgiveness and maybe even a bit of redemption.

Brant Wellington is heading, on the order of Grandma Nadine, to work at one of her hotels. But what he finds when he arrives is more than he expected: his ex-wife. Though he hasn’t seen her in years, he still feels grief, guilt, and anger about the events that led to their divorce and working with her brings everything back to the surface.

Nikki’s life changed drastically during and after her marriage to Brent collapsed. Her independence as a massage therapist is huge for her, and the routine she has developed is a life line. But Brant’s arrival at her hotel shifts her equilibrium and she finds that she isn’t as far beyond her past as she thought.

These two probably would have continued to avoid even the mention of the other if not for the meddling of Grandma Nadine and Brant’s grandfather. They have so much heavy baggage between them that at times it seems too much to sort through in order for them to have a second chance.

As this series has established, there is plenty of humor throughout. But there were times that the humor felt like too much for the heavy topics Brant and Nikki needed to deal with. There were times it felt like the humor made too much light of the situation, and the humor and pain didn’t go hand in hand.

I enjoyed the bones of the story, but it was really the juxtaposition of the humor and pain that made it difficult to love. This is one of those books where I can identify that it didn’t work for me, but that added lightness may be exactly what other readers need.

As usual, this is filled with meddling side characters. I liked the addition of Nikki’s friend, Cole, and the competition he makes Brant feel added spark to the early stages of the book. I love Grandma Nadine’s influence in the story, and as she always does, chaos falls in her wake.

This was a mixed bag of emotions and feelings. It has everything from slapstick to subtle humor and fun, to deep hurt and guilt for past events. Reading it kept me on my toes and kept my own emotions rolling.

People Brant like make me not believe in relationships these days. They are also the ones who kill romance for me. He thinks of Nikki in almost everything he does and yet he spends the four years he was away from her manwhoring and drinking. The drinking, I can understand. He and Nikki share a very tragic story. But manwhoring? Why? He even taunts Nikki with the conquests he had over the years. Brant is the worst hero in the series and I didn't like him from the beginning until the end of the book. I felt sorry for poor Nikki. She didn't deserve what happened to her or someone like Brant. She deserved someone like Cole. He proved that he was better than Brant more than once and he was the better man. I wish Nikki had gone on a couple of dates with him to give Brant a taste of his own medicine. This book is one of the few cases where I said that either the heroine or the hero was better off with someone other than the person the author intended them to be with aka the other main character. Cole should have gotten Nikki because he was the one who had her back when she needed help and was worried about her. Instead, he was pushed aside when mister STD came into the picture again. Not cool with me. Brant treated her badly when all those years back and in present time. And guess who came to the rescue.

I wish Cole will get a story. He needs to find his happy ending with someone who will love him. To be honest all the people in the resort were great and I would love a series where they get their happy endings. Or at least where Cole does. His character is my favorite, after Nikki. The "love of her life" is in the last place in case you are wondering. The people at the resort saved the book as well as Brant's family. I liked the heroine so she also gave points to the book. I just don't understand why she tried to have something with Brant after everything. Since Brant's type is the norm these days I will say that most of "romance" readers will enjoy the book so if you want go and read it. I know I won't do it again.

description

This was my first read from Rachel Van Dyken, and I have heard good things about her books. Unfortunately this one just didn't work for me. But I'm not giving up yet, I will try another one and see if it's a better fit.

I should mention that this is the third book in the Bachelors of Arizona series, and I have not read the earlier books. I didn't feel like I was lost or missing too much information, but after reading some other reviews I understand that this story may have been playing out in earlier books. Regardless, I didn't feel like I was missing anything vital.

Brant and Nikki married very young without a blessing from either of their families and they attempted to make a go of it on their own. Unfortunately a horrible tragedy struck the couple and they were just too young and naive to deal with it. We meet them again four years living apart and tortured by the past. Brant has become an alcoholic asshole, and Nikki is blind and struggling through life as a masseuse. Determined to drag Brant out of his misery, his family orchestrates a situation where the two won't be able to avoid one another.

Nikki was a tortured heroine, who I found to be somewhat sympathetic. I liked that our heroine had a disability... well not that she had a disability, but that she wasn't perfect. It provided some nice diversity, and I thought she managed her life quite well for her blindness. In totality, Nikki's situation was heartwrenching, and my heart went out to her for what she has suffered. However, she cried All. The. Time. Seriously, even before she encountered Brant again, she was tearing up left and right. It was just a bit too much for me.

In contrast, Brant held his emotions in check until they exploded out of him in a rage. He was an angry alcoholic asshole, though he did seem to stop drinking cold turkey without any pesky withdrawal problems. I didn't get why he was so determined to be a jerk to everyone around him... but it seemed like being a hardass with his employees was a reputation he earned from a young age in the company business. I understood that he was supposed to be depressed and angry and sad and guilty, but I didn't find that his motivation matched his behavior.

Speaking of, all of the emotions just felt forced to me. I didn't buy anyone's motivations, feelings didn't feel authentic, and behavior seemed erratic. The writing was disjointed at times where I had to go back and read to see if I missed a section. And all of the comedic attempts fell flat. To have such a heavy subject between the H/h, Nadine and Grandfather's antics seemed more inappropriate and awkward than comedic relief.

So while this one did not work for me, I am in the minority of reviewers as of the date I wrote this review. So don't let my feelings dissuade you from giving the story a shot. I'd love to discuss your thoughts!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, Forever Romance.

2.5 Stars

This is the lowest rating I have ever given RVD and I pray it's the only time too. Cause, lord knows my heart is breaking not being able to rate this higher.

I have never been so indecisive on writing a review before. And I think part of the reason is because I love RVD and her books. She always intrigues me with her characters and their stories. But with this book, I am beyond torn. Part of me liked this book and another part (big part) was just really annoyed with this book and the story line.

I was really looking forward to Brant's story and I hate to say it, but I was let down, ALOT. He came across as so much more of an asshole than we had seen in the previous books. And Nikki came across as way to wishy washy for me. They both irritated the living hell out of me. I get having mixed feelings because they are ex's but damn, talk about whiplash. Then there was the whole story behind both families being against them being together to begin with for various reasons. Now all of sudden, Brant's whole family is trying to get him to win his true love back. None of it worked for me - none of it made sense to me, nothing added up.

And don't even get me started on the employees at the resort. I get that their actions were to be funny and showing their support of Nikki and hatred towards Brant. But to do that in the open for public eyes to see and to be blatantly rude to their own boss because of personal feelings, that is just wrong. I get that authors are allowed to be creative in their writing, but there has to be some level of common sense to it too. I could see where the funnies of their actions was, but it was a hard sell for me at the times it happened.

There were too many instances in this book that had me shaking me head and getting frustrated with the characters actions. I had an extremely hard time finishing this book because I just didn't care how it ended and often times, found myself skimming it. Why the whole family ended up there was completely stupid and was a far stretch by any means. Everything just felt forced and too over dramatized for me.

Ugh, I hate writing this review because I do love RVD and her book so much. But this book, is definitely not my favorite. It didn't even feel like an RVD book to me. And that sucks. I pray she doesn't get upset for this review, I am just being honest.

So what did I like about this book - Cole. I really liked him and he made this book worthwhile. He kept the book alive for me.

Give the book a try. I am hoping you enjoy it more than I did.

No matter where she went, she was still a part of him, a beautiful reminder of his ugly past.

Brant Wellington has been a shell of his former self ever since his entire life fell apart four years ago. He’s managed to keep the pain at bay via an endless parade of meaningless hookups and plenty of alcohol. But now that he’s forced to not only see his ex-wife, but also work beside her every day, all the feelings he’s tried to keep buried are fighting their way to the surface. When Nikki was coerced into bidding on her ex-husband at his family’s charity auction, she wasn’t sure what she expected to get out of the deal. At the very least she was hoping to get closure, but being around Brant again is proving more difficult than she ever expected. With a past as painful as theirs, will they be able to find a way to move forward or will this finally be the goodbye that they missed out on the first time around?

“It’s a bit terrifying.”
“My ability to romance you?”
“Or maybe just my ability to fall for it.”

The first two books have hinted at Brant’s painful past but they left us wondering what exactly happened to put him in such a bad way. Well, now we finally got to find out and it was a doozy! It was pretty horrible what happened to him and Nikki several years ago and it’s no wonder that things fell apart between them. There probably aren’t a lot of couples that could make it through that kind of trauma. In light of that, this book had plenty of emotional moments, but overall the story wasn’t too heavy thanks to the frequent comic relief in the form of Nikki’s best friend, Cole, and the rest of the Wellington crew. This meddling crew was back in full force throughout this book and Cole was a welcome addition to the madness. It really was a team effort to get Brant and Nikki back on the right path, even if some of the antics were a little over the top. As far as second chance romances go, though, this was a good one and it was nice seeing the last Wellington find his way back to happiness. I’m not sure if there will be more books in this series since all the Wellingtons are now spoken for (perhaps Cole??) but it’s been fun reading about this slightly dysfunctional, albeit well-intentioned, family finding their perfect matches!

“Nik, I’ve spent the last four years numbing the pain. Seeing you again makes me believe that maybe the best way to live isn’t to ignore it but to learn how to survive it with the ones you love by your side.”

I've been dying to read Nikki and Brant's story. I adore Nikki. I tolerate Brant.

It made my heart hurt everytime Nikki's hardships were brought up. She had to find work to support herself while dealing with her disability, and she had no support because her family abandoned her when she decided to marry Brant.

I wanted to forgive Brant, but I don't think he was worthy of Nikki. They both had their fair share of mistakes, but Brant handled everything very poorly. He whored around and became an alcoholic. He didn't even check up on his blind ex wife who he claimed to love so much. I know he hated her as well, but when you love someone, you still have to know that they're all right. Especially if they just got into an accident that blinded them and could have killed them. He just completely shut down and became bitter. I know I'm going on and on about this, but Brant could have just done better. He was such a disappointment.

I knew they were going to end up together at the end, because duh, but I wanted Nikki to end up with Cole. Hate me all you want, but Brant can go to hell.

The Bachelor Contract by Rachel Van Dyken carries more of a deeper emotional storyline than her typical romantic stories that are interlaced with humor. Instead this book was definitely all about the feels, heartbreak and forgiveness. As humans, we tend to place blame as to why a relationship failed but in this book Rachel Van Dyken allowed readers to be immersed in the journey of Brant and Nikki as they reconnect, learn to forgive and get that second chance at love and healing. Since this book is pretty much a straightforward read of reliving the past and the union of two lovers, I don’t want to say much but what I can tell you that RVD delivers a story that was full of heart. Prepare yourself to get swept away in Brant and Nikki’s love story.

The Bachelor Contract By Rachel Van Dyken
“Rollercoaster of emotions, 5 stars”

If you have read the other two Bachelor books by RVD you know that Brant is a hot mess. If you haven’t that’s okay, you’ll figure it out soon enough. RVD takes us through a rollercoaster of emotions. I was so into the story that I didn’t move and forgot about my wine glass that was sitting right next to me until I hit the last page.
Brant is a disaster. I never expected to like him. But then I found out why he was a mess and I could understand it. And then when Nikki came back into his life he started lashing out until he decided it was time to man up and take what was his. Then I fell a little bit in love with him while he was busy working on making Nikki love him back. I thought he was the typical spoiled rich boy, but that is so far off the mark it’s not even funny.
Nikki is resilient. If I went through half the stuff she went through I don’t think I would handle it with near the grace she did. She has had a hard four years, but she’s made it with the help from her best friend. When her ex shows back up she doesn’t know what to do. Does she go with the man she still loves but left her broken hearted? Or does she start over with the man who’s been by her side through it all?
I loved everything about this story. All the characters were spot on. At one point I was really expecting everyone to have either team Nikki or Brant signs. I loved how RVD rounded out the Wellington family and I will cross my fingers that she gives Cole Masters a story of his own.
Plot- 5/5
Characters- 5/5
Heat- 5/5
Writing style- 5/5
Overall- 5/5

The Bachelor Contract (The Bachelors of Arizona) by Rachel Van Dyken
Never have I lost my heart as quickly as I have with Rachel Van Dyken's, Bachelors of Arizona series.  Brock and Jane were the beginning of something wonderful.  Bentley and Margot were the culmination of something special and Brant and Nikki were like a dance with destiny.  The Bachelor Contract is as captivating as it is heartbreaking.  What began as a beautiful romance, lost it's innocence and became a journey of pain, guilt and salvation.  I have yet to piece my heart back together.  Every author has a story that symbolizes the best of them and I think, The Bachelor Contract is Ms. Van Dyken's signature tale.  The message is powerful, the hope is inspiring and the love story is everlasting.

I struggled with this book. I did end up liking it at the end, but I had a hard time with both Brandt and Nikki. I was not totally convinced I believed in their actions and their reactions. the story never felt real to me, and I am not sure the actions of the characters really acted in a way that worked for me as a plot and story.

As the book went on, I warmed up to Nikki and I started to believe in her and to think that I was hanging out with a character I like. Brandt, however, always felt a little like a caricature and I was not really able to connect with him. His family didn't help much, as I thought they were over the top.

The writing was strong and the pacing was mostly strong...but the plot was off to me. I liked the idea of the auction, but I just didn't relate to the characters. Overall, I think I felt sorry for them and I thought they were a little tragic.

I wish I was able to recommend this title as I usually enjoy the author, but I am not able to do so.

I own quite a few books by Rachel Van Dyken, but I think this is the first book I've ever picked up by her. This sounded like a sweet, emotional second chance romance and I couldn't wait to dive in.

Nikki's life is as good as it's going to get. Since losing her sight and her ex-husband, Brant, she's settled for working as a masseuse at a prestigious hotel with her best friend, Cole. The last time she saw Brant, they were both broken beyond repair and he never came back to fix her. When Brant shows up at the hotel to check the staff and amenities, the last person he expects to see is his ex-wife. He can never forgive himself for what he put her through and he'll do anything to leave her alone. But Nikki is everywhere and Brant soon realizes the only way to fix them both is to show her the kind of man he can be that is worth her love.

From the first page, this book was emotional. And I mean REALLY emotional. These two characters went through so much pain together and it was so sad watching them relive that pain every time they were around each other. Every flashback sprinkled throughout this story made my heart ache and I wished I could just hug Nikki and Brant. I've got to say, though, that the moment we met Brant in the present, I really wasn't a fan. And as the story went on and he was quite the jerk to everyone, including Nikki, I continued to dislike him. Even when he started to grovel for Nikki's love again, I had no sympathy for him and didn't really want Nikki to even think about giving him a chance again.

I really did love Nikki's best friend, Cole, and their fun relationship. It was so sad watching Nikki wish she could just fall for someone like Cole because it would make life so much easier. Cole was so funny and it was entertaining how he would flirt with Nikki and ask her out just to make her smile. The rest of the staff we met were so nice and Brant's family was definitely entertaining!

While I loved Nikki, Brant was so hard for me to like and, even when we got to the end, I didn't think he redeemed himself in my eyes. This really did hit you in the feels from the first page, though, and delivered an emotional second chance romance between two people who broke each other and are trying to be whole again.

3.5 Stars-Not my Fav RVD Book

As a huge fan of Rachel Van Dyken and having only read one book in this series, it wasn't the best thing I have read from her. While you can see some of Rachel's humor creeping out of the pages, it was a little heavier than I am use to with her writing.

Brant was a tough character to like. He came across as a poor, rich boy, wah wah wah, my life is a mess somebody fix it for me type. I didn't like him right off the bat, now Cole was a different story. Brant is being forced to get his S together by his grandmother, no less and ends up face to face with his beautiful ex-wife he abandoned long ago.

Nikki, said ex-wife has been living the last four years fine on her own, or at least that's what she tells herself. Things are different, very different now and work seems to be her best outlet to get her mind off of him. Cole, her best friend, but who wants to cross the friend-line so bad he can taste it, helped Nikki with her heartbreak. Cole was a dream, with a wonderful sarcastic wit I could appreciate.

I'll admit, for about the first 20% of the book, I wasn't even sure what was going on with the bidding and the job. Once Brant got to the resort where Nikki worked, things got a little clearer. Even still, I had a hard time getting into these characters for some reason.

The book is well written and can be read as a stand alone. Brandt seems to have quite an interesting family that I might go check out next.

This is an emotional second chance romance novel. If you are a fan of the Hit Television Show, This is Us, then you will most likely love this book. For me, I read to escape and do not watch This is Us for that emotional reason. With that said, I still enjoyed the book and my heart broke for Brant and Nikki. I just prefer my stories and main characters not to be so debilitating...

This second chance romance leaves you breathless searching for what originally ended Brant and Nikki's picture perfect happily ever after leading them to their sad present day. If you have enjoyed this three part book series of the Wellington boys then you will really enjoy Brant's story. I am a major fan of Rachel Van Dyken's books, especially her Eagle Elite Series, and will continue to read whatever she publishes!

“The world had been theirs—until the world turned on them, and they turned on each other. It was so much easier blaming someone else than taking responsibility for your own pain.”

“The eyes are the windows to the soul,” he whispered. “And you’ve always owned mine.”

“I’ll always choose her.” Even when it hurt. Even when he knew it could destroy them all over again. If they couldn’t face their demons four years ago, then what the hell made him think they could face them now? Hope. And the face that he wasn’t going to give up again.

“Words are easy, actions are hard.”

My heart didn’t stand a chance with The Bachelor Contract. The Bachelor Contract is breathtakingly beautiful and incredibly well written. This story will give you the feels and delivers a romance unlike any other….

The Bachelor Contract is one those reads that you know within moments of starting it, that it is just going to destroy you. It is going to hurt and it is going to rip your heart to pieces. Your eyes will be glued to the pages and your mind will be consumed with Brant and Nikki’s story. Their story is hard and fate had been unforgiving. Words were said and hearts were broken. They both have suffered greatly and have spent years dealing with the pain. Only to have fate bring them together again. The journey for these two won’t be an easy one. With bitterness and anger clouding their minds, these two will be in for the fight of their life. Can they forgive? Can they forget? Will they finally be able to move on? Can there be a happily ever after? You’ll just have to read this book for yourself to find out…..

The Bachelor Contract was an incredible read for me from beginning to end. The writing is absolutely flawless and the story-line just steals your heart. I was swept up in this story instantly and could not put it down. I have so many quotes, phrases and paragraphs highlighted. I don’t want to forget a single word, or moment. This book and the characters are so real. Their emotions incredibly palpable. You can’t help but FEEL. The characters are flawed, broken and utterly perfect. The pull is undeniable and the angst just pulls at your heart. And there is hope. Hope that despite how cruel life can be and despite how many demons you may have to fight, there is hope for a happy ending. Hope that true love will conquer everything.

Rachel Van Dyken has knocked it out of the park with this book, delivering another unforgettable and timeless romance. This book broke my heart and put tears in my eyes. It gave me much needed laughs and an undying love and appreciation for Grandma Nadine’s antics–I will never get enough of that woman! I fell in love with the families and their interactions. I believed in second chances and a love that was worth fighting for. I fell head over heels. I swooned and in the end fell helplessly in love.

I love this series and couldn't wait to read Brant's story.

As you know from The Bachelor Auction, all three brothers were put as auction items - a "win a date with".

Brant's winning bidder is his ex wife. The woman he was madly in love with against his families wishes. Tragedy upon tragedy befell them and with no where to turn, Brant turned to booze.

He's been so lost, and feels so guilty for everything that happened between him and Nikki, he struggles to surface. But when the two of them are "stuck together" there is no denying that the attraction is still there.

Can Brant get his act together? Can Nikki forgive him from the past?

Definitely one click for this series conclusion.

’ve been a fan of Ms Van Dyken for some time now...as with all her books, this story hits the perfect balance of warmth, emotions, heartbreak, and best of all love and romance...with Brant and Nikki so vulnerable, it takes their hearts to find theirs love each other again.

Brant and Nikki’s story touch my heart through their struggles, suffering, and finding their way back to each other again...and best of all the love for each other that never died. The author has brought these characters to life through her creative method of bringing true emotions, they fairly leaped off the pages.

I was enthralled with the struggles that the pair experienced based on pushing each other away in the past when they needed each other to heal. The moments of heartbreak were especially poignant when their unborn baby son was involved in the story. Any parent would be touched deeply by this part of the story.

As always, I continue to seek out books by this author, her stories are well worth the wait.
