I really enjoyed this collection of nourish tales. The author seems to have a solid understanding of how deeply connected love, lust, pain and violence can be. The dialogue is well written and the characters are interesting. I look forward to reading more of this writer's work in the future.

A satisfying trio of dark cautionary tales in the style of Richard Laymon, the 'Trinity...' is good, well-crafted horror, from an author who clearly spends alot of time indulging in the genre - the stories are familiar, the characters stereotypically deranged and deliciously twisted.

I really enjoyed these three tales - each has a great sense of atmosphere, satisfying dialogue and a range of personalities which we have come to expect in such shorts, and would not realistically be found anywhere else. You can tell an author which has fun with her writing, and Kyla clearly has alot of fun - this is why we love to read their books. She has a real knack for punchy, satisfying dialogue and a good descriptive prose, with a perfect sense of timing - as one scene, one conversation and one incident leads to the next, it does so each time with a good, comfortable fluency; in writing, particularly short-story writing - as in stand-up or flash fiction - timing is everything, and Kyla nails it.

I suspect that she wrote the tales in the order they feature, as you can see her writing style subtly evolving with each, culminating in a lip-licking erotic thriller, which hints at, but doesn't quite prod at, a fetishist suggestion in the author's future work; something which I would very much like to see. The first, "Junk for Two", although a good read, lacks a little in the range of its descriptive vocabulary, something which improves to some extent; having said that, I do feel Kyla's overall writing will benefit as she develops as a wordsmith. Likewise, the punchy pace of this book is fun, but the sentences are perhaps a little too punchy, particularly in "Junk for Two" - I'd like to see them a little longer and more descriptive.

Still, Kyla is not far off being the finished article, certainly where her genre is concerned, and if she is to continue writing prolifically, I've no doubt she'll produce increasingly good stuff - I'd look forward to that. Coupled with Kyla's clear indulgence, in the way she litters her graphic scenes with juicy effects and adjectives, here are all the makings of tongue-in-cheek, grisly horror fun for grown-ups. Although my favourite of the three stories has to be the shortest: "Iris", I'd love to read a novel Kyla has penned, and hope to do so soon.

"Jilted Love" does leave you wanting more, but in a good way - I'd like to have seen a fourth tale in this collection, with a satisfyingly killer story, just to end on a satisfied sigh, but as it is, this book is definitely worth a read, and I recommend it.

It is very intriguing and the reason for the liking of this book is because it fits my genre and as you go on it gets profound and dark.

On the cover of Jilted by K. T. Rose, I see a picture of a woman with the eyes concealed or blanked out as if someone swiped from left to right across the book cover. Maybe they swiped from right to left. Your Tinder preference may vary. Below the picture, I see that this is A Trinity of Wicked Tales. Further, it is only Volume One. And then comes the clincher, this is A Dark Suspense Short Story Collection. OK, I’m in, the author has hit all my favorite genre buttons. That is a lot of information on the front cover.

Junk for Two ***** Trev was in love, but he wasn’t faithful. He loved Suzie but he loved heroin more. He would do anything for a fix, but his real concern was for Suzie. He did it all for her. Even the killing of the two convenience store owners was for Suzie. Or it was for heroin. In the end, it didn’t matter.

Iris ***** Natalie was a loving girl. She always paid attention to and took care of her boyfriends. She expected they would love her in return. Theo had gotten sidetracked with some cheerleader, but Natalie could have fixed that if Theo cooperated. But Theo had called her a stalker and that was something Natalie hated to hear. She took care of that situation just as she had always taken care of Theo. Now there was Jason. It was several years later but it looked like history was about to repeat itself. At least with Jason, it wasn’t a cheerleader. She was going to have to take care of another problem. No one really understood Natalie. Maybe Dr. Gabby did. She must remember to ask Dr. Gabby at her next session.

Phil ***** Phil might have been the perfectly disguised sociopath. He had lived with his father since the age of ten after the death of his mother. He had learned to be friendly and outgoing with everyone if there was some benefit for him. For several years he and Rob had enjoyed the perfect relationship as friend and in their employer/ employee relationship. Rob had the money and Phil had the manipulation skills to run interference for Rob’s indiscretions. Phil had created the situations that allowed for Rob’s painless and inexpensive exits from Rob’s first, second, and third marriages. He was ready to help Rob again with fourth wife Heather, but something had gone wrong. Phil had lost Rob’s trust. Someone had told Heather about Rob’s plethora of one-night stands. Rob suspected Phil and had decided to fire Phil after their long association of many years. Phil was not happy. When he returned home to wife Lana, he found that Rob had told Lana about Phil’s extracurricular affairs. Lana threw Phil out. Having lost a job and a wife, Phil was down to his last two girlfriends plus the du jour hook-ups. It was good that Quinn would do anything for him. She would even kill. Sara was equally devoted and bought into a plan to help Phil eliminate annoyances. It was time to clean house.

Phil was a nasty individual but at least he hadn’t killed his mother. Not that he could remember.

This short story collection might offend some readers with frank and explicit sexual language. It is not used solely with the intent to shock and I didn’t feel it was overused. Still, this is not something for the kids to read.

I felt the first two stories were well done but Phil was unnecessarily complex as far as characters. This led me to give the collection four Amazon stars. At USD 0.99, it is a good value for a collection of short reads.

Disclaimer: While I aim to be unbiased, I received a copy of this for free to review.

This was surprisingly fun! Here, we have three stories that follow a similar theme, and while they are occasionally almost formulaic, it actually works well. You know what’s going to happen, but the characters don’t. This is far from perfect, but it’s also very promising – and just the right length.

This is a collection of three short stories dealing with the subject of jilted love. They are cautionary tales of what can go wrong when love isn't reciprocated.

In "Junk for Two", two junkies will do anything for their next fix.

In "Iris", a young woman's obsession turns deadly.

In "Phil", when a man's life falls apart, he resorts to drastic measures.

Overall, the writing is good, but there are some clumsily phrased sentences that you need to read twice in order to ascertain their intended meanings. There are also too many unnecessary physical descriptions (especially in relation to eye color) and a few editing errors. Still, these are three interesting stories of obsession with unexpected endings. I look forward to seeing the author further develop her craft in the next volume.

Warnings: coarse language, graphic violence, sex scenes.

I received this book in return for an honest review.

I am a huge horror fan and was expecting Kyla Ross' A TRINITY OF WICKED TALES VOLUME ONE - JILTED LOVE to be just that (even though she describes them as "dark stories"). However, I was (pleasantly) surprised when it turned out to be something more. TRINITY is an intensely dark collection that gives the reader a look into the repulsive underbelly of the human condition and -- with its mixture of violence, horror and sex -- is actually a refreshing callback to the early days of Pulp Fiction.

As in Pulp Fiction, Ross' action is fast-paced, the dialogue sharp and the villains villainous. But in Ross' stories, there are no hard-boiled detectives to come and save them. Spoiler alert: the good do not end happily in these dark stories. Actually, there are not many "good" to be found in the TRINITY universe.

Ross is a fairly new writer, so there are a few nitpicky things: too many physical descriptions, a lot of exposition when it would have been nice if it would have been added into the action and a few things missed in editing. But these are trivial. They did not take away from the entertainment value of the stories.

Today my Gentle Readers is a delightfully dark quick read. This one is not for the squeamish or the faint of heart as this one comes with a sexual content and gore warning label. Nevertheless, I found the twists in these tales to be surprising. The author does a good job setting you up for a shock.

Junk for Two - Explore the power over life and death with Trev, a junkie who would do anything in the world for his love, Suzie.

Iris - Betrayal makes for a bitter heart in this tale of a twice-burned woman and what happens when presented with a third familiar scene.

Phil - Phil is always in control. He wields power over his life and the perceptions of his existence like an iron-fisted monarch. That is until it comes to a screaming halt. How will he take back his control?

If you like dark and twisty stories and won’t shy away from a little blood or sexual talk, then pick up Kyla Ross’s book today.

This was a really quick and enjoyable read. The first tale was short, to the point, and a bit sad. I felt so bad and shocked for poor Trev come the end of the story.

Iris was a bit longer, and gripping. You knew Natalie had a lot of issues and in the end she made the mistake of a lifetime, you think she's learned her lesson but she hasn't, she's more upset that she is alone, than at the act she just committed.

The last tale, is about a sexual sadist and his lust to always be in control, slowly he is losing control after his father dies and his friend fires him from his job, he uses his sexual divinces to take control of two women to do some "small" favors for him. They so gladly do so as they believe that Phil loves them, and only them. You will be hit with a surprise at the ending!

I have to say I surprisingly enjoyed this book a lot. Three tales that got more twisted as you read, culminating in a nice little ditty with just enough of a twist ending to keep this jaded reader happy/ Ms. Ross seems well versed in the genre of psychological horror, and while does not shy from “splatter” horror, she does not rely on it as her main vehicle to tell her story.
I can’t say any of the three stories were not predictable, but how they were told and the dialogue and atmosphere of each took you on a journey, that even though you had been on this trip before, you were excited to see it through someone else's eyes. Looking forward to more from Kyla Ross.

Thank you to the author, Kyla Ross and Readers House for providing me with a copy of the book.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed reading these grisly, dark tales! It was like being inside the mind of a twisted, silent killer! The way the author writes these tales is deliciously divine!!! My favorite short story was “Isis.” I love the unpredictable fate at the end! I was thinking it was going to end the same way like the others, but I was completely caught off guard like drop jaw action! “WHAT?!” The only other story, “Phil” made me feel half and half. For the most part, I LOVED IT! But the other half, I just hate that one of the victims were…Well, let me not spoil it. For the most part, I highly recommend this read for anyone who enjoys their minds blown throughout this Edgar Allen Poe-like rollercoaster ride!

A Page-Turning Thriller

This is my kind of read, dark and intriguing, which kept me on the brink of my seat. It’s a well-written collection of short stories where the multifaceted characters are mutually dependent, drawing you into their world of compulsion, betrayal, manipulation, envy, murder, deceit, hate, lust, sex, and revenge. Each narrative is suspenseful and gripping and illustrates the extent people will go to get what they want. Every tale builds up to a closing moment that will leave you breathless with some relevant messages: your actions have consequences, and you reap what you sow.

I think I might have got this book free for signing up for the author's mailing list. Three shorts, one book. The first is about a junkie whose sins catch up to him. The second is downright hilarious about a woman who catches her boyfriend cheating. The last about a man who loses his job and wife at the same time. Anyways, I'm twisted, so the second story wouldn't be hilarious to normal people. I'm starting to think I'm not normal. These shorts read into the desperate legnths people would go to out of their own selfishness. It was a fun, quick, entertaining read

I'm not against using human monsters instead of the supernatural variety, but the "horrors" of this book left me feeling matter-of-fact. I just didn't see a reason to care, as the "protagonists" (antagonists) weren't anybody I'd care to know. It doesn't deserve a one-star rating--I almost became repulsed once--but two stars is all I feel justified in giving it. The antihero has to be captivating, but these people were simply druggies and loose women, the latter getting married men to cheat.

Wicked good!

This book was totally out of my comfort zone. It was phenomenally written with exquisite detail. There was so much packed into 3 stories that it was never boring. It kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

This is a 3.5 🌟 read rounded ⬆️ to 4 🌟 .

A trio of stories, each encompassing the theme of "jilted", that were more horrific rather than "horror", if you understand what I mean. A satisfying collection that showcases the author's writing prowess.

This beautiful book was sent to me by the author, Kyla Ross. This is a new author to me and I'm glad she got in contact with me. I'm a big fan of horror and suspenseful reads, so this was right up my alley. The synopsis was right to the point and it kept my attention from the cover to cover.

Even though it was only ninety three pages long, it was straight to the point and each story held its own. There are three stories inside and they were not connected to one another. Each story kept me wanting to read more and more. Sadly it was a very short read and that brings me to my next point.

The only bad thing I have to say, well it isn't necessarily a bad thing but it was too short. I personally wished that each story was lengthened just a little bit longer. It would have given the stories for depth and more detail. I felt like everything was so straight to the point that it felt rushed.

I am always thankful for any authors that sent me their work in past, as well as the future authors. This quick and easy read is definitely a recommended read. Especially for someone that wants a quick read and enjoys anything horror or suspense related.

These tales had thrills and chills! They are reminders of what could happen if you do the wrong things in your life and what others can do to you! They were very suspenseful and a very good read.

Wow! I’m really impressed with each of these tales. I wasn’t disappointed and I felt they all delivered that morbid perfection. The title suits this collection rather well. Out of the 3, I have to say, “Phil” takes the cake, followed by “Iris” and last but not least, “Junk for Two”. I look forward to the future writings of this author.
