Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Ember Rose Alec Hale Granger Nash Milo Jarvis Bjorn Gunnar ---------------------------------- What happens? The mystery this time is following the citizens of Starry Hollow suffer their nightmares come to life in some very funny and bizarre circumstances. Ember also gets her first wand and cloak so she can start to learn magic faster and more efficiently Final thoughts This was nice but I wasn't as invested in this book as another. It was a nice change from the murders she was helping solve but its a little bit less interesting than everything else. Still nice read. Would I read again?: Yes Would I read this author again?: Yes
Fascinating story continuing Ember's Starry Hollow adventure
This tale finds Ember being introduced to yet more new experiences as she navigates her way round this new town and world.
This time Ember has to get her wand and cloak, take lessons with Wren who ends up being less attractive as she gets to know him.
There is a visit to an art gallery with her boss, an uncomfortable collection of situations and a new threat hitting those of Starry Hollow.
Ember is on the trail of something or someone who is making nightmares come to life.
Ember also has to deal with her opinions on both her boss and Sheriff Nash.
The story is hard to put down following the Rose family and the residents of Starry Hollow makes for a very enjoyable read.
It is worth going from book one as relationships develop as the different books progress. Although their is a mystery and or murder in each story it is always resolved in the book so they can stand alone.
This is a review for the Starry Hollow Witchs books 1 through 6, as I read them all one ofter the other so feel a series review is in place.
This series had a different feel to the Spellbound books. For a start Starry Hollow takes it's place in the world at large and time has continued to move forwards. The magic appears to be different dependant on the users and has a slightly different feel to it. Ember (like Emma in Spellbound) does arrive though from the human world and finds out she is a witch from a rather special family. There she discovers a matriarchal aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews and a whole cast of weird and wonderful townsfolk, including some rather handsome new suitors. Ember and her daughter discover the delights of a new world, along with solving some murder and mayhem on the side. The world is delightful and I recommend these books highly for a spot of light reading that will surely distract from the day to day of reality. Fun and engaging.
This is a lovely series and I went straight from book one to three.
The good bits are our New Jersey protagonist Ember Rose. Brought up in Hunan world she is now finding her magical chops. The beauty of Ember Rose is that she is not afraid of her Aunt Hyacinth, descent of the one true witch, who feels she is superior and to whom her cousins, the aunt’s off spring kowtow. Ember is 💯 New Jersey spunk. Then there are other interesting characters like Alex the smooth Vamp or sheriff werewolf, both of whom carry a torch for Ember.
But, as much as I enjoy these books and the characters, this book was weak. The curse of nightmares coming to life wasn’t exciting, or intriguing. It was silly. 🤪 The town’s residents finding their worst fears being released like being afraid of the Easter Bunny 🐰 🐣 and why it was happening didn’t flow. And so three stars only for this book.
Great characters, weak plot. I’m sure Aunt Hyacinth would have something to say about it.
'Magic & Mischief', third in the Starry Hollows Witches series, is a fast fun read. This time out Ember is trying to find out why people in Starry Hollow are facing their worst nightmares, and why has she been present on every occasion? As with the previous two books the mystery serves mainly to provide an ending - in fairness the solution is unusual. It is professionally written, with information being doled out slowly over the series, so, for example, we are not much closer to finding out about Ember's parents than we were in the first book, nor who, if anyone, she will choose to get romantically involved with. It has an interesting cast of characters and a good sense of humour, along with a number of magical set pieces along the way. I'll keep reading the series as long as my interest continues but, somehow, I doubt I'll finish all eleven books.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This is the third of the Starry Hollow Witches series I've read, and book three is as delightful a read as books one and two. Ember Rose's education in the ways of her magical heritage continues with more puzzles and curiosities occurring on a regular basis. I'm completely entranced while reading these enjoyable and charming stories, and I'm still smiling, now, while I'm writing this review. I very much look forward to the next book in the series and encourage anyone looking for a well-written and often humorous series to begin with book one, although Ms. Chase's books stand alone well in their own right.
This series is incredible! There is an enchanting mix of all kinds of paranormal elements in a magical town. Each book in the series has its own mystery that is wrapped up by the end. There are also continuations of overall stories throughout each book and the characters grow and develop more and more. The main character is so satisfying to me, she has flaws but they are realistic and relatable. She is also kind and compassionate. Plus there are romantic elements that add to the plot. Overall, if you pick up this series you won't be sorry!
This is a great cozy mystery. It's part of a series set in the fictional and magical town of Starry Hollow. Ember has suddenly found herself transported into a town full of magic and magical characters, having grown up in the human world. She and her daughter are finding their way, she's learning who she can trust as she stumbles into various mysteries. Each mystery she grows in her magic understanding of the town and also learning about her parents and past. A great series and I can't wait to read the rest.

The 3rd book in the Starry Hollow series has Ember putting on her detective hat once again to investigate why some of Starry Hollow's citzens are having their worst fears come to haunt them. Is it a curse , a spell gone wrong or something in the air? Hop on your broomstick and be transported to an enchanting town of magical & mischievous paranormal characters.
Book three is where the author is beginning to hit her stride. The characters are developing well and the backstory is beginning to appear. The mystery was just a little too mysterious since the answer never occurred to me but was ingenious enough that I forgive the author. Also these are not murder mysteries, more like the frog fiasco of the last book, only more interesting and intense. All in all, it was a pleasure to read.
Once again, this one doesn't have a murder in it. Instead people's worst nightmares are coming true. With the curse affecting both Sheriff Graham, and her boss Alec Hale, Ember is concerned that the only common element to the curse appears to be her. She needs to find out what's happening before she takes the blame, or before the curse turns deadly.
Annabel Chase writes an enjoyable tale, that's worth the time spent reading it.
Another entertaining read by Annabel Chase. Nightmares become real when something goes awry in Starry Hollow. Ember seems to be the uniting thread between all of the events and she begins to wonder if she has somehow cast a spell causing this to happen. When her boss and then the sheriff are affected the town's council calls her in for an interrogation. It's soon apparent it can't be her because she doesn't have the knowledge or skill level required perform a curse like this.
This book is a good introduction to the witches of Starry Hollow. However, there are more than just witches. There are vampires and werewolves. Ember is living among humans and doesn't know she's a witch until she accidentally makes it rain. Later, her cousins show up and teleport her to the place of her birth. She finds out quite a lot about herself and her parents during the first book. I'm excited to read the next books in the series.
Ms Chase is one of my favorite authors, and Starry Hollow is fast becoming a favorite series. In a series with this many books, there is lots of room for character development. This time around, the nightmares of Starry Hollow residents are coming to life. Both the Sheriff and Alec have been affected. Will Ember find the culprit in time? Buy the book and find out. Another must read from Annabel Chase, 👍
I'm not normally a fan of books with kids, however she is my favorite character this time! The characters are believable and interesting. So interesting that I don't have a favorite love interest. I simultaneously want to root for both love interests and see what other interesting characters pop up.
I just discovered this author and series. I have devoured all three books. I love the characters, funny and magical. It's about a single mom who discovers she has magic. Add in two hot bachelors, some intriguing mysteries, and the heroine is going to need all the magic spells she can learn.
Each book has been exciting and keeps me reading. Characters continue to expand and the storylines are innovative. The paranormal aspect makes things believeable (as much as paranormal can be believed) and the situations are fun. I can't wait to start Book 4.
Starry Hollow is a unique place with a unique population. Ember and Marley are learning about all the treasures their new home has to offer. This book has amazing stories, advice, and plot twists that you just don't see coming. There are some things you can predict and others that will leave you saying "Oh!!"
People are living their worst nightmares and Ember Rose is trying to find out why. It seems she's been present each time a nightmare comes to life. But, she is not talented enough to cast a hex on people. Her witch lessons are slow going, even though she is full of raw power. The ending has a surprise twist, that no one sees coming. A fun read.
When nightmares start to become reality it seems that Ember is the key as she's the common denominator. But Ember doesn't have the skills to bring nightmares to life she's only just got her first wand.
When it hits Alec and Granger it seems that the curse is growing stronger than ever but will she be able to clear her name and find the real cause?
I love the main character in this series. She is delightful sarcastic and determined to be a witch. She may have just learned about her family history but she is going to make the most of this hidden talent. Great story and wonderful plot twists. I highly recommend.
I loved the idea of a worst nightmare curse! And spoiler-free I also thought the way it came about was interesting and unique, not something I had contemplated as a possibility. I was a little sad about Alec in this book, and I'm excited to see what happens next for all of the Starry Hollows characters.
Marley gets so excited over everything in her new environment! Her Mom is finally considering dating too! But Hyacinth will NOT be too happy with her first choice! Another amazing book in an amazingly funny, lighthearted series by Annabelle Chase! On to the next on up!!
You've got a speaker whose laptop and clothes disappear, someone taking magic lessons and learning how to astral project, an art show date that is a Yeti, odd paintings, a sheriff going full wolf, an Easter bunny adn a witch/journalist trying to figure out just what is going on.
Another decent book in the series but not one that stands out.
Book Three comes with a lot of information in the backstory for Ember’s parentage and in this one, the mischief start and it takes a minute for the town to realize “a game is a foot.” Seems the entire Starry Hollow is out to figure out the culprit, and what an ending it has. Off to read book 4
