Book Boyfriends #3

Hot Single Dad

Rate this book
Caleb Lawson can’t fall for his daughter’s new nanny. Linnea is too young for him. And worse, she’s his sister-in-law.

Caleb lost his wife when their daughter was a baby. He barely knew Linnea and hasn’t seen her in years. But after a string of caregivers who didn’t work out, he reluctantly agrees to his in-laws’ suggestion—Linnea should move to Seattle and be his live-in nanny.

He’s completely unprepared for the woman she’s become—smoking hot with dangerous curves, kissable lips, and shy smile.

Linnea Frasier is pursuing a career as a concert pianist, but her new job as a nanny to her niece is a welcome change. Her insta-crush on Caleb? That’s a little complicated, but who could blame her? He’s gorgeous and smart, and from the moment they meet, sparks fly.

She’s perfect for Caleb’s daughter—fun, patient, and kind. She might be perfect for him too, but he can’t think that way. She needs to live her own life, not be saddled with his insta-family.

He can’t fall in love with his daughter’s nanny. But it might be too late.

Author’s note: A dedicated single dad gets an unexpected chance at love. A woman who comes into her own, an adorable little girl, big laughs, text fails, and a family that is finally made whole.

Hot Single Dad is by Claire Kingsley. In Book Boyfriend we met Alex Lawson. Then in Cocky Roommate, we met the sister, Kendra. Now in Hot Single Dad, Caleb gets his story.

I first met Caleb in the previous books and knew him to be the more serious of the siblings. He had to be. Caleb is a trauma surgeon but more importantly, he is a single dad. He lost his wife, Melanie, when their daughter, Charlotte, was just a baby. Now Charlotte is six years old. Caleb recently moved to Seattle to be near his family. Charlotte is extremely shy and withdrawn. Caleb thought it would be better for her to be near his family. Plus he just wanted to be near them. He has missed them. He is having trouble managing his hectic schedule and trying to be a good dad to Charlotte. His family is pitching in but it’s still tough. He has gone through a couple of nannies but none have worked out yet.

woman playing piano

Linnea Frasier is twenty-two years old and recently graduated college with a music degree in piano performance. Linnea is the younger sister of Melanie, Caleb’s deceased wife. Linnea also grew up shy but she did love to play the piano. Linnea’s sister had been a successful surgeon like Caleb but with her gone, all her mother’s attention is now forced upon her. And let me tell you, this woman was determined her daughter would be a success, no matter what.

man, woman and child

Linnea’s mother decides that she should travel to Seattle and be Caleb’s live in nanny while she is practicing and auditioning for a permanent position in a symphony. Linnea and Caleb hadn’t seen each other in years. Linnea was still a withdrawn teenager the last time he saw her. So he was definitely not prepared for the curvy, beautiful woman that got off the plane. And Linnea is hit with an instant crush when she first sees Caleb. But both of them keep their attraction a secret. There couldn’t be more cards stacked against them. Linnea is the nanny, she is the younger sister of Caleb’s deceased wife, and there is a ten year age difference between them. This could never work.

beach date

As the weeks and months go by, Linnea becomes part of the Lawson family. The bond grows stronger between she and Charlotte and Charlotte blossoms. The chemistry between Caleb and Linnea also strengthens. Could they risk letting their feelings be known? What if it doesn’t work out? What would happen to Charlotte? And Linnea’s manipulative mother isn’t done yet. She manages to once again insert herself into planning Linnea’s future. Will Linnea ever be able to speak her mind to her parents, to stand up for what she wants?

woman and child's hands on piano keys

Claire Kingsley once again managed to steal my heart with this one. I’m a sucker for adorable kids in my books and little Charlotte was so cute. I loved watching Linnea blossom as well. It was clearly the life she was meant for, the place she was meant to be. She just had to figure it out. I also loved getting plenty from Alex and Mia, and Weston and Kendra. Weston especially came through for Caleb. I have never started out disliking a character as much as I did Weston in the beginning of his book and loving him as much as I do now.

Which brings me to the final tipping point that made this book a five star rating. This fabulous author added a little surprise mini chapter at the end of this book featuring Weston. That’s all I’m going to say for now, except that it will make you swoon for sure. Gosh I love that guy.

So, if you haven’t read any of these books yet, get busy. Is that too bossy? Just take a look at them. They are all fabulous. I am just in love with these characters. I hope you will be too.

Note to self: Age gap.

He is older and she is her dead wife's little sister, who has now grown up. Hard pass for me.

Why do I keep doing this to myself?

It's obvious that I don't like this author's style and yet just because I'm curious I keep reading her books. This one was just like the others in series. And honestly, this whole sister-in-law thing was an eek for me. I didn't feel the love or anything.

This story was ok but I was so very over all the casual misogyny and depiction of ideal women as caregivers and mothers while career minded women were portrayed as cold and cruel. Maybe it’s unpopular to say this but Linnea dreamed too small. She let her anxiety rule her life and limited her life choices because of it. She obviously loved to play piano and was extremely talented at it, there is a huge wealth of opportunity for a musician between being a concert pianist in a major orchestra and teaching part time piano lessons. The author needed to explore that more and give her character a bigger objective than that. I felt sorry for her at the end being pregnant at 23, saddled with a seven year old and an extremely busy surgeon. What a huge undertaking, it seemed like she had barely any room in her life for herself and existed only to be a support person for Caleb. That’s not an ideal fantasy for female readers, and I believe that is the main objective of M/F contemporary romance. When reading fiction for women I want aspirational situations where women live their wildest dreams. This was more of a male fantasy frankly, having the little woman with big tits barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen being free labour for him so he can pursue his career as a trauma surgeon. No thanks.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED!!

I absolutely loved this single dad romance!! Caleb is a sexy AF dad and his love for his daughter makes him all the more swoon-worthy.

This story is full of so much emotion and so many heartwarming moments that gave me heart-eyes and all the flutters. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

The chemistry between Caleb and Linnea was electric and to see them near each other yet trying to stay away was cute. They tried to deny their attraction, but little did they know how perfect they were for each other.

And how adorable was Bug? She stole the show quite often. To see her break out of her shell was a sweet and beautiful thing and made the mom in me want to hug and squeeze her.

I loved everything about this book.
The writing is excellent, the characters irresistible, and the story charming and smile-inducing.

There’s humor, plenty of heart, and a deliciously perfect amount of steam. I was a very happy and satisfied reader when I reached the end.

** Her Best Friend was a PERFECT little bonus story. It made me smile BIG - I loved it so much.

I tried to like it but I couldn’t stop imagining that he was freaking married to her sister and he loved her thn years later after her death. He was in love with his dead wife sister ( LINNEA )and he said he really doesn’t know her but come on I really tried to be with the story but my brain wouldn’t let me. Didn’t feel right whn LINNEA kept referring herself as a nanny?!? What the hell?? Charlotte is her freaking niece! It’s just gross.

I didn't realize this was the third book in a series when I started reading it. The other couples seemed adorable but I regrettably didn't feel a connection to them because I hadn't read their books. Although I enjoyed it, I do wish I had read the series in order.

Yep. Three books inside of five days. I did that. I would have had them finished sooner, but I don't get paid to read so I had to actually go to work. Gross.

Anyway, Caleb. Yeah, there's something about a hot, single dad that has women dropping their panties and throwing themselves (vagina first) at them. I get it. There's just something sexy about a man who cares for and spends time with his child. There's just something about a man who puts his little girl--or guy--first in his life. Silly, but that's how it is. Don't mind me, I'll be over here, grabbing a new pair of panties.

Linnea. Man, I had to ask how to pronounce that name, but after figuring it out, I have to say it's one of the most beautiful names I've stumbled upon. And she's just so amazing. Kind, caring, giving, nurturing, sweet, beautiful. She's just all the things and so much more. It's no wonder Caleb and his darling daughter, Charlotte, fall for her. She's the missing key to this duo.

But, as with any story, real or fiction, there are complications. Things that make this relationship more difficult than it should ever have to be. What things, you ask? Well, there's the age gap, the fact Linnea is Charlotte's nanny, oh and one other teeny, tiny thing that I'll force you to find out on your own. But the odds are against them, as they are with many couples.

This is one couple you don't want to miss. And if you make it this far, I think you'll want to subscribe to Claire Kingsley's newsletter so you can read her short story about a certain cool kid and her bestie.

The following is a spoiler for book 2, so read at your own risk

Hot Single Dad is the third installation in the Book Boyfriends series. In it, you will meet Caleb and Linnea. They were cute and shit - plus their story was a bit different that what I usually read in a romance. So, Caleb was married to Linnea's sister but then she died. However, she left behind a beautiful six year old girl Charlotte.

Linnea's family (aka parents) never really cared about her or her future. Well, once her sister died they definitely started to take notice. Especially her mom - they don't have the best relationship known to man. The short version of how they get into each other's lives is all due to her mom - she makes her become the nanny for Charlotte.

Along the way, their crushes and feelings popped up. They had some sparks and chemistry - which made me like them a bit more. Their relationship was cute but ugh, I hated the mom in this. I hated how she looked down on both her kid and caleb.

Overall, it was cute and I look forward to dive into the other books in this series.

Third book in this series, boy oh boy did I enjoy reading all of them (great vacation reading). Claire Kingsley is now a favorite author for me and what I really liked here was her writing style and storylines, they were so fun and relatable. Great contemporary romance writer and she sexes it up just enough for me.
Also it was a perfect finish to the series, she even threw in an extra bonus chapter for Kendra and Weston from the second book in this series.

☆☆☆

This is the conclusion to the Book Boyfriends series where we meet Caleb, the last Lawson family member to tell his love story, and Linnea.

I want to start by saying that at first I was kind of put off by Linnea being his sister-in-law and also the instant attraction that went between the two of them the first moment they saw each other after some years. I did try to overlook these two things because as I said earlier, this was the conclusion to a series and I wanted to know how everything turned out in the end.

In the beginning I had trouble connecting with Caleb and Linnea as a couple, I like them separately, but I didn’t really feel anything when I was reading their scenes. At first, it felt like their relationship was based on their mutual lust and there were no other feelings involved. Also, I liked Caleb, but the mention of the word ‘boobs’ in his POV was too much for me. I get that he is attracted to Linnea but he does not have to point out her boobs every time he is talking about her. I would have liked for their attraction to have a slower transition, to see how they slowly fell for each other and how their relationship evolved.

I liked Caleb mainly because he was sweet, thoughtful and he had so much love for his daughter charlotte that I cannot stop myself where father/daughter relationships are involved. I was soft during the whole book because of the bond between him and Charlotte, and all the little moments they shared in his and Linnea’s POV. I also liked how at one point he was being aware of his possessiveness for Linnea and it was such a relief that he acknowledged his own behaviour and apologized for it.

As for Linnea, she felt like a breath of fresh air. I liked how she had grown of her timid self but she was still struggling with some things and learning from her experiences. She was so sweet and funny and supportive in every way when it came to Charlotte. Their bond was so amazing too, Charlotte learned so many things from her and they love each other so much. It did bother me that Linnea referred to taking care of Charlotte as her “job”, I mean sure but they’re family and she cares so much for her that it felt weird when she called herself her nanny.

Overall, I enjoyed seeing all the characters brought together and the epilogue was sweet.

Based on Carol [Goodreads Addict], I gave this a try not knowing it was a sequel to Book Boyfriend which started out strong and wimped out for me.

Hot Single Dad was sooooo much better. If you liked BB, Mia and Alex are still here, but this story is about Caleb and Linnea and is just too sweet. I usually hate sibling to sibling plots, but I'm going with this as the two never really knew each other.

Caleb is widower with a six year old little girl, Charlotte, and essentially receives Linnea as his new nanny. Linnea is his dead wife's little sister, and she is quite grown up as in pinup bombshell material. Linnea's insufferable parents demanded that she go be the nanny as she needs time to practice to be the world class pianist THEY want her to be. I have really been on a narcissistic mother roll lately.

Anyway, instant attraction between Caleb and Linnea. For a contemporary romance, their build up is pretty slow, but it works and is quite sweet. When they finally get together it is rather smoking. Charlotte is more than a stock character plot moppet and is pretty adorable. Well done and charming proposal.

Linnea's parents, really her mother and don't mothers almost always do the dirty work, tries to manipulate and control some more, and I received a lot of satisfaction from Linnea's response.

HEA!

I've been waiting for Caleb's story since meeting him in Book Boyfriend. Thanks to whispersync, I both read and listened to the audiobook, narrated by Savannah Peachwood and Rock Engle. You don't need to read the previous books to enjoy this one, but the series is interconnected, so previous characters do appear.

Caleb was just as sweet and loving as he was in the previous books, but getting to finally be inside his head helped to understand how he struggled to balance his home and professional life. I loved his relationship with his daughter Charlotte and his family. His confusion and hesitation regarding pursuing a relationship with Linnea was honest and realistic. I was amazed that it was Weston who actually gave the best advice in the book. I also really liked Linnea and felt that her kind and nurturing personality complemented Caleb very well. She definitely grew throughout the book, but sometimes her age and naivete were very apparent.

One of my favorite moments in the book was their first kiss. Emotions were running so high and this is where listening to the audio really took it to another level. Rock Engle was amazing as sexy and vulnerable Caleb! He gave such an emotional performance and I could feel all of Caleb's confusion, anger, longing, desire, and love. Engle's enthusiasm during the more intimate scenes will have you fanning yourself too! I also really enjoyed Savannah Peachwood's performance, and her narration as the shy and youthful Linnea was excellent. Engle and Peachwood complemented each other very well and of the three books in this series, this was my favorite narrating duo.

I will admit that though I really enjoyed the book, it took me a bit to wrap my head around a few things due to personal preference/feelings. First, I'm not usually a fan of the dead spouse trope. It takes me longer to be on board with the romance when I know in the back of my mind that the previous relationship/marriage either wouldn't have ended or wasn't given a chance to end naturally. Second, the heroine happens to be the hero's former sister in law. Linnea is Charlotte's aunt, but will Charlotte call her mom? Will it be confusing for Charlotte that her future siblings will actually be her cousins too? Having sisters myself, this was a really tough pill to swallow. Third, the heroine is about a decade younger than our hero. The ten years isn't as big of an issue for me, as the actual age of our heroine is. It's just hard when the characters are in different stages of their lives (especially with Caleb settled with a daughter and Linnea a recent college graduate). Many readers will have no issues with these items, but for me it definitely gave me pause. I think what helped me understand the story most was the Afterword at the end of the ebook. Honestly, it is such a shame that these Afterwords from the author are not included in the audio versions. They give so much insight into the thought process of the character and that, coupled with the advice Weston dispenses in the book to Caleb, really helped me put my personal feelings aside and just enjoy the story.

The epilogue brought a huge smile to my face and seeing all the former couples as well as Mr. Lawson a little into the future was perfect. The end of the ebook also includes a bonus chapter from Weston's POV and his adjustment to fatherhood (Gah! I love him so much!), as well as a link to a short story featuring Caleb's daughter Charlotte and her friend Noah in the future. Definitely recommend this series and I'm sad that it's come to a close.

I received an ARC for an honest review of this book. It was no hardship. It was the third book about the Lawson siblings, and I was so glad to read Caleb's story. Even better, he got connected with Linnea, his sister-in-law, and they were perfect together.

That's not to say they didn't have issues. The thing I really liked was that they were realistic. The exactly kind of things that a couple in real life would face. An age difference, their past, and their in-law status. I loved how they worked through it, and I especially loved how protective Caleb was!

I also loved seeing the characters from earlier books, and getting to know Charlotte a little better. She had a wonderful family who loved her and who brought her out of her shell--all of them--and she blossomed. She also had her dad and Linnea, and it was just heartwarming to see them become a family.

Claire Kingsley has become a must-read for me. I'm never disappointed, and you won't be, either!

I LOVED the first book of this series (Book Boyfriend). And then found the second one a little underwhelming (Cocky Roommate). So it was with cautious optimism that I picked up this third & final installment of the series.

But I am glad I did, because this was so much better than Cocky Roommate, even though it wasn't quite as awesome as Book Boyfriend. Either way, it was good to end the series on a higher note.

That being said, most fans of this genre will enjoy all 3 of these books, what with each one following one of the adorable Lawson siblings, and leaning into often-used/much loved romantic tropes.

However, I'd say if you can read only one - pick up Book Boyfriend, because in my very biased opinion (lol), it's the first and the best of the three.

5 stars for Hot Single Dad by Claire Kingsley ! I loved this book from the beginning. I couldn't get enough. This is literally one of my all time favorite books now. Caleb is such an amazing dad to Charlotte to be doing everything by himself it's so remarkable. Linnea and Caleb are so perfect together it's incredible. Linnea is remarkable for stepping up and helping with her niece and putting her niece in front of everything else. I am definitely going to re-read this book a hundred times. This book is one that is inspirational and down to earth all at the same time. It's not so crazy that things like this could never happen it's something that could happen anywhere. I highly recommend you get this book. You won't be disappointed!! By Cheyenne

Şu kitapta tek hoşuma giden tek şey Weston'ın da acayip sevilesi bir tipe dönüşmesi oldu!
Madem böyle bir potansiyelin vardı kendi kitabında neden göstermedin be adam! Yok yere 3 yıldız verdirdin bana!
Neyse!

Single dad & widower, Caleb is busy juggling his job as an ER doctor and taking care of his daughter, Charlotte during his time off. Unfortunately for him, none of his nannies have been reliable. His deceased wife’s parents have a solution for him: their other daughter, Linnea can come be Charlotte’s nanny until he finds someone else.

Linnea is a recent music school graduate, wanting to get hired by a big-city symphony. Her parents offer her up as a nanny to her (kind of) brother-in-law, Caleb, who lives across the country. The opportunity seems good enough: Linnea can give lessons & practice while Charlotte is in school and she can get far, far away from her parents.

The only problem? Linnea just might be falling for her dead sister’s husband. And Caleb just might be falling for his daughter’s nanny.

Hot Single Dad by Claire Kingsley is book 3 in the Book Boyfriends series. I was really excited for Caleb’s romance ever since he was introduced earlier in the series. This is a fun, light, low-drama/angst romance. I enjoyed it as kind of a palette cleanser between heavier reads. The tropes are some of my favorites, but this one didn’t meet the same mark for me as books 1&2. I wanted more depth and more romantic development between Linnea & Caleb. I did still enjoy it though & I’m happy I finished off this series. 3.5/5 stars.

Hot Single Dad was the third book in Claire Kingsley’s Book Boyfriends series. Although part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.

Caleb Lawson was a successful surgeon, widower, and single father to six year old Charlotte. His job required long hours which resulted in Nannies for Charlotte. After a revolving door of nannies, his late wife’s younger sister, Linnea, was coming to help out. He hadn’t seen her since she was a teenager but he needed the help.

Linnea Frasier had just graduated college with a music degree and was trying to sort her future out when she agreed to assist with her niece temporarily. She could also focus on her music and decide what to do next.

Hot Single Dad was a fast and lighthearted read. It was fairly predictable but also fun and filled with humor. Caleb’s family was active in the plot, so we got a chance to catch up with previous couples, Alex/Mia and Kendra/Weston. All in all, it was quick and entertaining.

A lovely end to the Book Boyfriends series. Caleb Lawson is a single dad to the shy and adorable Charlotte, working crazy hours as a trauma surgeon. Due to his in-laws insistence, their younger daughter is sent to help look after their granddaughter. Linnea is a brilliant pianist, who is still figuring out what she wants to do while waiting for a spot to open up at one of the symphonies. She takes the opportunity of looking after her niece as a way for her to be out from under her parents control.

There is an instant attraction between Caleb and Linnea. It was a steady buildup between them, with many factors playing a part - age difference, family perceptions and the cute six-year old. It was great to see Linnea grow and become more confident. And a nice epilogue, with a bonus about Weston from Cocky Roommate.

And another bonus and so welcomed was the bonus book about Charlotte and Noah. If you sign up to Claire Kingsley's newsletter you'll get this little gem Her Best Friend that also gives a look into everyone's lives a few years on.

ugh = 1* but +1 for Weston = 2*

This follows from Book Boyfriend and Cocky Roommate. Each of these three follow a different romance book trope, which the characters Alex, Mia, and Kendra are fully aware of. I read the blurb for this one and knew it was single dad plus nanny combined with relative/friend of dead wife. Neither of these are really my thing but given the first two books were pleasant and had solid if unexciting writing I was looking forward to the book. Oh was I disappointed.

Linnea is Cade's (former) sister-in-law and current nanny. She is 22 and he is early thirties. Without any other description that is going to be a bit creepy and would need some sensitivity to pull it off in a romantic manner. I would like to say Ms. Kinglsy tried but failed but she did not even do that. Where I liked Cade in the first two books I very quickly disliked him. From minute one his chapters are all about how much he loves Linnea's body. There is nothing that shows the two of them having anything in common other than lust. When he decides he is going to see if she is interested in a relationship with him he says it is important to talk to her about all the implications, especially her parents and how she feels about her deceased sister. But that conversation never occurs. Basically they just hop into bed. So much for taking things slowly and carefully. There was not a single thing I liked about this couple.

There were also several inconsistencies. For example Linnea mentions that the couple do a baby sitting swap with another couple. Then at the end of the book Cade has no idea who the man in that couple is. I hate that sort of thing.

Literally the only thing I liked about this book was the characters from the other books. Especially Weston. I smiled every time he came along and did a typical Weston thing. And clearly the author knew he was more interesting than Cade and Linnea as she includes a chapter at the very end that is all about Weston and what he is up to now. It was cute.

Claire Kingsley never disappoints. I have had a soft spot for Caleb and his daughter since we first met them in Book Boyfriend. Getting to revisit characters from the previous two books is such a delight. Caleb is such a good guy and a perfect dad. I fell in love with Caleb right along with Linnea. It is wonderful to see how Linnea finds her true self along the way and stands up for what she wants out of life. There is a surprise romance hidden with the pages that will make your heart happy. This is the perfect ending to an amazing series. I can hardly wait to see what CK comes out with next.

I really enjoyed book 1 and loved book 2, but book 3 fell flat for me.

I couldn’t buy the story. Too unrealistic. Another thing that annoyed me ALOT was the fact that everyone kept calling Linnea the nanny. She was Charlotte's AUNT for goodness sake! Yeah, who happens to be acting like a nanny to help Caleb out but her aunt nevertheless! 🙄
April 14, 2019
Description:
Reasons I need to stop fantasizing about Linnea:

1. She’s too young for me.

2. She’s my daughter’s nanny.

I could stop there, couldn’t I? I’m already a cliché. The single dad who’s hot for the nanny. But it gets worse.

3. She’s my sister-in-law.

My wife died when our daughter was a baby, and Linnea was just a quiet teenager. I barely knew her. When my in-laws insist she move to Seattle to be my live-in nanny—after a string of caregivers who didn’t work out—I reluctantly agree.

I wasn’t counting on the smoking hot blonde with sinful curves, kissable lips, and shy smile.

Linnea is perfect for my daughter—fun, patient, and kind. She might be perfect for me too, but I can’t think that way. She needs to live her own life, not be saddled with my insta-family.

Being around her is a special kind of torture, but I have to keep this infatuation to myself. I can’t fall for my daughter’s nanny.

But it might be too late

I had a little audio slump.
I decided this one sounded just right. I haven't read a Claire Kingsley book in a while.
I listened to the audio. This has a great set up, but I was frustrated by the heroine's bossy mother.
She was the catalyst for Linnea and Caleb getting together.
I really likedthe narrators, Savannah Peachwood and Rock Engle. Both are perfectly cast.
Claire's writing is always great. I love that the characters talk and not too much inner thoughts.
This has some really hot scenes.
I need to go back and read the other books. Weston is a great supporting character, also Kendra and of course Caleb's daughter Charlotte.

First time reading this author.

It was OK. I didn’t catch that the heroine was the hero’s dead wife’s little sister. A little cringey. I just saw single dad romance and it was in KU.

I didn’t like this enough (or the characters) to go back and read the previous 2 books in this series.

The writing was OK. The chemistry was meh. The little girl was cute. Strange that she was calling her by just her first name instead of using Aunt. Weird.
