These books are just so absurd, so silly, so beautiful. Seldom do I have my hands on a graphic novel in which so many cells are such perfect paintings; good composition, perfect use of colour theory, gorgeously put together images. Of dinosaurs. in spacesuits.
This book is so much fun! I could practically hear the voice of the narrator of the Adam West Batman show in my head whenever I read the phrase "could this be the end of Captain Raptor?".
Captain Raptor and his crew answer a distress call from Mammalia Captain Brock to help him rescue some of their scientists on Pyros Prime. When they arrive at Pyros Prime, they discover that the giant volcano on the planet is about to errupt and destroy the planet. Can Captain Raptor rescue the scientists in time?
A very thrilling space rescue mission that could totally be expanded into a whole movie or chapter book, but is succinctly and excitingly told in a quick picture book. The style of the text harkens back to old radio adventures or ongoing weekly comics that ask at the pause points, 'Could this be the end of our hero?' Once again, the illustrations are downright stunning. I can understand why it takes several years between Captain Raptor picture books. The plot and artwork are definitely engaging enough for middle grade readers, and they may be the audience best able to follow the story. Hand this to dino loves and space adventure fans.
A mini graphic novel for kids with dinosaurs in space with lasers trying to rescue scientists stranded on a planet that is about to blow up. A fun but quick roller coaster of a ride. Patrick O'Brien's illustrations make reading and rereading this book a pleasure.
AMAZING illustrations and homage to the sci-fi genre in a kids book. It's got something for both adults and kids. Love reading this to my kid and hope to check out the others from the library as well.
This is the last of the Captain Raptor books I've read with my kids this past week. I love that every time the question "Could this be the end of Captain Raptor?" is asked, my three year old sweetly responds "No". She is of course right, Captain Raptor is a crafty space dinosaur.
Dinosaurs in space with volcanoes lend this ludicrously high appeal and the hyper-real serious illustrations lend a nice balance to the ridiculous plot. Recommended for kids ages 5-8.
A space army of dinosaurs must undertake a mission to rescue some scientists from a dangerous planet int his grpahic novel picture book hybrid. Elementary and up
