The Body Checker

Rate this book
Jonah:
I’m the NHL’s toughest enforcer, the Body Checker, and I earned that title the hard way. I’m all about the game, a no attachment, no strings kind of guy, so when a puck bunny shows up at my door, shoves a pink bundle into my hands and drives off into the sunset, it turns my world upside down. I’m not cut out to be a family man. I know nothing about babies and I’m the last guy who should be taking care of one. But I do know someone who is equipped for the job—Quinn Reed, my best friend’s kid sister. Problem is, she kind of…hates me.

Quinn:
Jonah Long…a father? Move in and help take care of his daughter? Crazy as that sounds, I agree to the temporary arrangement, for the child’s sake. Problem is, living with the guy I’ve crushed on since forever, is messing with my body as well as my brain. And now, watching him grow as a man, seeing the bond between father and daughter build, I can’t help but want this family for myself. But we’re just playing house, and Jonah isn’t interested in making this ready-made family the real deal…right?

This is my tenth hockey romance but the first one from this author. It is a part of a series, although it reads well as a standalone.
The protagonist Jonah Long is a tough hockey player, his team enforcer (hence the title). When one morning one of his flings turns up on his step and informs him that he is the father of this cute baby girl, he is shocked. After all, what does he know about babies? Jonah quickly realizes he needs help and even finds a suitable person for the job - Quinn Reed, his best friend's sister. Looking after Daisy means Jonah has to grow up and become more responsible and is there anything sexier than a man who can take care of those he loves?
Yes, some parts are a bit unrealistic (a mother who leaves a baby without having checked she is going to be alright in care of a playboy hockey player?) and predictable, but, overall, this is an enjoyable read with good couple chemistry.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Body Checker kind of reminded me of that one show called, Baby Daddy. Mostly because I'm watching that show on Hulu right now. Unfortunately for me, I like the show a lot more than this book.

It was just okay. I wanted to like all of the characters but I just couldn't. They didn't wow me or anything. Jonah was okay, Quinn was eh as well. Nothing was spectacular and I feel like I was missing so many things with this book. Or at least this could've had more potential on delivery.

Again, it could just be me.

Other than all of that, it was enjoyable. Mostly because I finished it and it had hockey players. Oh, and Zander - loved him. I did, however, wish that I liked it a lot more than I originally did but I wouldn't mind re-reading it at a different time in my life (one where I wasn't so busy/swamped with work) to actually enjoy it. I might form a different opinion.

Hmmmm...so much promise, but just ok for me. I would’ve liked more character development...and I don’t know, something seemed off. The heroine (Quinn) didn’t act the way I thought she would. Her brother and the hero (Jonah) were bf professional hockey players (not much actual hockey in the story) so she knew him but they weren’t exactly friends (Although she’d secretly been crushing on him). Jonah was a player not looking for a wife and family. Quinn had abandonment issues and was scared to wish for a family of her own. Yet she jumped into a physical non relationship with the hero right away, taking care of his baby and playing house with him which I thought was kind of out of character. She was helping him with the care of a baby daughter who was dumped on him by a casual gf/one night stand. What I couldn’t understand was why this rich and famous athlete didn’t have a paternity test done immediately? And why didn’t these two talk and express their feelings until it was almost too late?
Not quite enough in this story for me to rate more than 3 so-so stars.

Jonah discovers he’s a daddy when a fling shows up on his doorstep and claims he has a daughter named Daisy. And this all happens before he’s had coffee and with his best friend and a houseful of his teammates behind him! Panicking at the thought of a mini human being he doesn’t know how to care for, his best friend Zander calls his little sister Quinn to help out. Quinn, the one woman who Jonah could picture settling down with...but there’s the little issue of the bro code with Zander and Quinn’s seeming dislike for Jonah. What a guy supposed to do?

What a cute and super hot read! The cutes-Daisy was an adorable girl with typical infant behavior to include sleepless nights, dirty diapers, and projectile vomit (bless you Cathryn for not shirking on the reality of four month olds!) now the hot part-Jonah and Quinn had enough chemistry to start a five alarm fire! A bit of bossy in the bedroom gets Quinn’s girly parts revving and Jonah is just the man to deliver. It doesn’t hurt they both have unrequited feelings for each other that everyone in the world is aware of! Except of course the two people it matters most to. No hockey was actually played, but the spicy bits make up for the oversight :)

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What an emotional book!

Jonah wakes up one morning to a major hangover and finding out he is a dad!! This is a man who didn't have baby's on the brain for years to come. He is a major playboy. Now he needs to step up and be a dad. Luckily for him, his best friends sister is amazing with kids. Jonah has secretly loved Quinn for years but the bro code has prevented anything from coming from that.

I really liked Quinn in this book. She has also loved Jonah since she was a girl but kept it secret. In order to hide her attraction, she is always yelling at him. However when he finds out he is a dad, she steps in to show him the ropes and ensure that Daisy is taken care of properly.

The part I loved about this book was you got to watch a boy become a man and do right by his daughter. Even after everything is straightened out, he is a better man for it.

Body Checker

When what you think you know isn’t true!!!!

Omg this was my first book by Cathryn Fox and I’m absolutely impressed. She will take you on quite the journey in The Body Checker. I will definitely be reading more books by her.

Jonah: I’m the NHL’s toughest enforcer, the Body Checker, and I earned that title the hard way. Quinn:

I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

We have two best friends, Jonah and Zander, they’re hockey players and one young sister, Quinn. The guys have the usual fun, until Jonah is handed a surprise pink bundle from a puck bunny he had fun with just over a year ago, a baby girl, Daisy. He had no clue he was a father and didn’t know what to do so his friend calls his sister Quinn, she works in a day care so knows about babies. Quinn grew up with out her parents, her brother took care of them both from a young age, she knows what it’s like to be with out family so she’ll help out all she can so Jonah’s little girl is cared for properly.
Then her mother comes around wanting the baby back causing trouble, a fake relationship may be the only way to keep her at bay. But who are they trying to fool.
A sweet romance, full of emotion, lots of chemistry and hot sexual tension. It was a heart warming read as Jonah showed a different side to his character with Daisy and his fatherhood. And the stunning twist at the end is sure to bring gasps and smiles from any everyone.

We have a brother's best friend and the little sister. Jonah had know clue that he was a father until a puck bunny hands him his little girl. Not knowing what to do he is freaking out and his best friend calls his little sister Quinn who works at a daycare center. Quinn knows what it is growing up without a parent since her brother took care of them at such a young age so she refuses to let Jonah's little girl suffer. When the mother comes back wanting the baby back, Jonah and Quinn have a fake relationship which in turn turns real..

A cute love/hate relationship between Jonah and Daisy. He is her brothers best friend. She is the the know it all sister of his best friend. When an ex shows up at his home declaring he is a dad, he is left in a bad spot. He never knew she was pregnant, let alone prepared to be a dad. He is a hot NHL star, with a hectic schedule. Daisy volunteers to step in and help until he can find a nanny. What they didn't bargain for was falling in love.

I liked the story (although I read a book with a similar plot recently), I just didn't like the ending with the ex and the whole baby daddy. Left a bad taste for me.

The things that go through Jonah's mind, “hey, you’re here helping me, you can have and use anything you want. I mean anything.” You can even use my body if you’re so inclined." Joanh likes to be inappropriate at times, "I laugh, hard. “You looking for something to blow?” I tease..." I loved this book, I fell in love with Jonah.

Fun & steamy read!

Favourite Quote:
“You’re Zander’s best friend, and like a brother to me.” Okay, not a brother, not even a cousin. More like my brother’s hot best friend who just happens to make my ovaries stand up and do the Macarena.

===================================

When after a night of heavy partying, Jonah gets a screaming pink bundle thrusted into his hands by an ex who claims he’s the father, his best friend’s kid sister Quinn steps into help him. Neither is looking for a commitment, but with a chemistry so hot the air sizzles between them every time they’re in the same room, playing happy family starts to feel a little too real for both of them.

I first read Cathryn Fox’s Dossier-series and I really, really like her brand of fast-paced, sizzling hot romance. This one also didn’t disappoint, especially since I like the best friend’s sister trope. There’s some initial hostility between Quinn and Jonah, but they quickly set it aside to take care of baby Daisy. Jonah doesn’t have any experience with children, so when he finds himself an instant Daddy, he readily accepts Quinn’s help. They get down and dirty pretty fast and very often, but the smexy times do serve the plot and at no point I found myself flicking to the pages to the point where the story picked up again.

One thing that did bother me was how Jonah readily accepted his being a father without even asking for so much of a paternity test. Shari’s a certified puck bunny who’s been around the block a few times, so Jonah’s accepting Shari’s explanation that the condom broke (which he doesn’t remember happening) and that the baby is his, didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. He’s a wealthy guy, so he’s vulnerable in that aspect, but no one—not even Jonah’s own father who’s a lawyer—even suggests to Jonah to at least have it black-on-white that the baby is his. This required quite a suspense of disbelief and it’s the only flaw in an otherwise really great story.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to people who like their romance steamy. Zander, Quinn’s brother, has his own story coming up next. I can’t wait!

Sexual tension overflows as Quinn and Jonah navigate the rapids that seem to represent Jonah’s new reality in this quick moving romance. This is my first read by author Cathryn Fox and she delivers an entertaining ‘surprise baby’ romance involving an NHL hockey player.

Surprise! This story has a more than one big surprise. Surprise #1 was the baby delivered to the hung-over hockey player, “Body Checker” Jonah. The mom a well known ‘puck bunny’ had been with several players on the team. She handed the baby to Jonah and walked away. Jonah barely remembered being with her. He doesn’t know a thing, not a thing, about babies, so he reaches out to his longtime best friend Zander. Zander, in turn, calls his sister Quinn, a daycare provider. Quinn soon comes to the rescue of baby Daisy and clueless dad Jonah.

This story could also be called “in love with my brother’s best friend” because Quinn had a crush on Jonah since childhood. She didn’t see herself as any competition for all the beautiful women surrounding the hockey players. Adding insult to injury, Jonah treats her as one of the guys.

Quinn has her hands full with Jonah. She has a few surprises coming her way as well.

Jonah seems like a good guy, who seems to be ripe to be used. I would call him Mr. Oblivious except he isn’t as blind as he seems. He may be the ‘Body Checker’, an enforcer on the ice but he kind of goes with the flow otherwise. His ‘friends’ seem to take advantage of him in these out-of-control parties. He recognizes that the women are after him for money and fame. Even when faced with what is clearly a significant legal problem, he hesitates much too long before seeking the advice of an attorney.
Low angst and a sensuality rating of 4++ (warning), this is a perfect read for the beach, the recliner by the fireplace or any relaxing location.

Cathryn Fox never ceases to deliver something completely unique, completely addictive and completely mind-blowing. I was utterly mesmerized. The Story. The Heat. The Love. This was absolutely stunning!
Jonah Long “The Body Checker” of the NHL answers the door after a long night of celebrating his massive contract extension, to be presented with a pink bundle of surprise, “Here is your daughter, Daisy”, by a past hook up. Totally not knowing what to do when the mother leaves just as quickly as she came, his best friend Zander calls his little sister Quinn to come over and help.

Quinn Reed is a daycare teacher. She has never liked the way her brother and his best friend lives with puck bunnies in their beds every night. Did they not think that this might happen eventually? But Jonah now needs to clean up his act and be the father that Daisy needs. She will help him, because of the baby, especially after being abandoned by her own mother.

But as these two spend time together taking care of Daisy, Quinn is quite taken and impressed with the way that Jonah is stepping up to take care of his daughter. Bonding over Daisy, both of them start acting on their feeling of attraction and a sizzling chemistry that they have been suppressing for a while.
But what will become of their secret affair when a nanny is hired to replace Quinn? Will it only be amazing sex?

Jonah and Quinn’s Story is full of emotion, conviction, thick sexual tension, off the charts chemistry, and perfect amount of feel good, warm your heart, kind of romance. With a great twist at the end. You do not want to pass this one by. Loved it, so so much!

First off I need to say why has Cathryn Fox not crossed my radar before now because I loved The Body Checker it was everything I love in a sports romance. This book has all the feels you want from a great read, you will smile, you will cry and you will have some laugh out loud moments as the Body Checker learns how this cope with a small baby....
Jonah is living life to the full, he earns a living playing a game he loves and he has women falling at his feet what he didn’t expect is to be handed a baby!! He needs help and that comes from Quinn his best friend and teammates baby sister who happens to be a daycare teacher. Quinn moves in to teach Jonah how to raise a small baby but living under the same roof brings feelings and emotions they have both been trying to hide to the surface...........
This book with make you smile but it will also tug at your heartstrings, it has characters you will love and a twist you never saw coming. I need to read the rest if this series as soon as time permits.

Loved It

This is a sports romance that I couldn’t put down. After a night of hard partying Jonah gets up to answer his door and has a baby thrust at him telling him he’s a daddy and the mother takes off. This hard partying hockey player had no idea what to do with a baby so his best friend Zander calls his sister in to help Jonah out. They have all grown up together and Jonah has always known Quinn as the girl who is off limits since it’s a “bro” code thing.

As they spend time together caring for Daisy there are boundaries that are crossed and neither of them will admit to anything. There is great chemistry between Jonah and Quinn and there are surprises that tug at the heartstrings and have you picking sides. It was quite the page turner for me.

For the most part I enjoyed Body Checker. The story isn't anything new but the author puts a fresh spin on this tale.
I found Jonah to be sweet but a little naive when it comes it women. His world turn upside down in a matter of minutes but he handles this in stride. He shows his true colors and is definitely one of the good guys. He's always had a thing for Quinn, his best friends sister, so when the time comes the pair don't hesitate to take their relationship out of the friend zone.
Its very light on sports so I wouldn't categorize this as a sports romance per se but it was more about the bonding between Daisy and Jonah.
The one downside of the book was the retelling of his sexual prowess. It was a bit overkill.

I received a copy of this book for a honest review.

4+ “Totally adorable” Stars

Holy puck!!! I know whenever I pick up a story by Ms. Fox I’ll get OTT hotness guaranteed. The Body Checker had hotness to spare, but it was also fun, sweet and incredibly cute!

This story checked a lot of my favorite tropes: surprise baby? Check. Single-dad-who-needs-to-be-saved? Check. Off-limits best friend’s little sister? Check and… well multiple checks *wink*wink*

Jonah finds himself suddenly and completely out of his element. When the puck bunny from hell thrusts a tiny baby wearing pink, he has no choice but to take little Daisy. By the mercy of Heaven, his best friend is there to witness the exchange and gets his sister to help him out asap.

Quinn takes care of little kids for a living and dreams of opening her own daycare one day. Once she meets baby Daisy, she agrees to help Jonah out but only temporarily. She may act like she hates his guts, but she’s crushed on the guy forever, and being constantly in the presence of his shirtless-chest-and-abs is not going to be easy.

Once they start to settle into their make-shift temporary family and they spend more time together, Jonah and Quinn’s chemistry becomes unbearable, and soon they are succumbing to it.

Jonah was the cutest H ever. A giant, sexy mountain of muscles, he is completely ill at ease when it comes to the delicate baby he now finds himself having to take care of. I loved how he stepped up to the situation and went all in to become a real father to Daisy. He was absolutely adorkable in his baby handling, and I was melted into a puddle of goo time and again every time he interacted with the baby. He also had some seriously hot moves turning me into puddles of another variety altogether.

I had a blast with Quinn. She kept Jonah on his toes, went head to head with him when necessary and was the sweetest with the baby.

I loved everything about this story. It had lots of heat and sexnanigans, but also sweet moments and family bonding. I especially loved how much baby Daisy was part of the actual story and wasn’t just a baby prop. That said, the whole situation was a bit OTT and the puck bunny from hell was a real piece of sh-work.

Fun, sexy, sweet and adorable, The Body Checker was an amazingly enjoyable read that had me smiling from start to finish.

This book definitely took me by surprise.
Like I thought I knew how this book was going to end but I was completely wrong.
Quinn and Jonah have known each for years since he is her brother's best friend, so when he unexpectedly ends up with a daughter he knew nothing about she steps in to help him, which obviously leads to them having this crazy secret relationship with no strings attached.
I liked how playful and funny they were with each other and how they cared about each other in the past but covering it up with irritation.
I did not see the twist in the end, it honestly took me by surprise and the only think I didn't like was that Jonah and Quinn were like "okay, but back to us..." and I was like ??? If someone did to me what they did to Jonah and Zander (even though it's pretty impossible) I would be super angry. Overall it was good book and I loved how they both treated Daisy.

The Body Checker is heartwarming and sexy! Jonah is such a sweetheart. Seeing his love grow for Daisy just tugs at those heart strings. Quinn is refreshing. She's normal! I love how she is relatable, not over dramatic or unrealistic. It's like they are the perfect couple! Thank you to netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest opinion on this book. A big thank you to NetGalley and Kobo Writing Life for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. I believe that this is the first book in a series. there is a smidge of hockey, but that's not the main focus. I really liked this book. The main characters were interesting and fun. Daisy, a baby gets dropped at Jonah's place! What does he know about babies. Jonah's best friend Zander saves the day by calling his sister, Quinn. Quinn gets things organized. I liked the no nonsense of Quinn, and Jonah's flexibility and acknowledgement that the baby could be his! It's a fun, fast paced ride! Very enjoyable story. I think most romance readers would enjoy. I rate it 4 stars.

This book was all, ohh, then awww, then ooooh, and then it made me cry, first sad, then mad, then happy tears! I mean, surprise daddy, plus best friends little sister, and he's a hockey player? Yeah, that is all good, no bad, and this book certainly lived up to that expectation

Jonah is having the time of his life, living his dream, and then he is handed a baby. He has no idea what to do, but Quinn is a daycare teacher, so she helps out. Once they are living together to care for the little one, is doesn't take anytime for the sexual tension they have to explode. And it does, again, and again, and again, until finally, reality steps in and scares them both

Just a bit of time, until they come back around, and end up together, as they should. Sexy, smart, and tugging at your heart strings, this book had it all!

Jonah Long: Brown Eyed, Brunette

Content Rating: R

Overall Opinion:
NHL’s toughest enforcer, the Body Checker, Jonah earned that title the hard way. Being a no strings kind of guy, he is rendered speechless when puck bunny Shari shows up at his door, with a baby in tow. Luckily, Zander, his best friend calls his baby sister Quinn in for a rescue. Quinn is quickly taken by his daughter Daisy and when they play house, lines crossed and they're wondering if making this ready-made family the real deal.

Overall, in regards to “The Body Check”, have you ever read anything and just didn't know how to take it in? Was it good? Was it bad? Was it it even worth the read? “The Body Checker” falls perfectly into that category. The series wasn't rememberable, the characters were just okay, the content was just whatever and you're left with nothing but a fast paced romance. Not worth the finish and I ended up dropping this series by chapter 10 at 51%.

The Body Checker by Cathryn Fox is an entertaining and lustful romance. This book is first-rate, complete with two made for each other characters, desire, and the adorableness of a four-month-old. The author incorporates two of my favorite romance tropes into this story, secret baby and best friend's sibling.

Quinn Reed loves her job as a daycare provider. So when her brother's best friend is suddenly a father, Quinn comes to his rescue. Quinn has known professional hockey player Jonah Long most of her life, so helping him take care of his infant daughter while he searches for a nanny is a no brainer. Quinn moves into Jonah's home and very quickly falls in love with this brand new family. Jonah opens his manly heart to both his daughter and Quinn, and realizes that living without either of them is an impossibility.

This book is replete with scorching sex on the countertop as well as in the shower. Jonah is an alpha in the bedroom and his commanding ways are very seductive. Quinn and Jonah have an amazing chemistry and Ms. Fox does a wonderful job of evolving their relationship. They share some commonalities that are not immediately evident, which only makes this story even more interesting. The plot twist at the end is quite compelling. Overall, this is an engaging story with characters that are well-developed and likeable. This is the third book from Ms. Fox's Players On Ice series and it can be read as a standalone.

Complimentary copy provided.
