Reindeer Games Definition: activities to exclude outsiders

Industrial-art student Leif Caldwell and his best friend win tickets to the hottest party in town, the annual masquerade Christmas gala at the upmarket nightclub, Evoque. Not a gig they could ever afford to attend or buy costumes for, so Leif makes their masks. Given the holiday theme and the play on words, he makes a set of striking reindeer antlers and intends to have the night of his life.

Vintage Ridge's resident millionaire and owner of Evoque, Russ Quarrington, hates the holiday season because it reminds him of everything he's lost. All the money and success in the world can't fill the void in his heart, and this year he's particularly bereft. With the gala looming, his personal assistant insists Russ attends and that he wear a mask that offers anonymity, and hopefully find some festive cheer. Bored with the guys in town and tired of men only wanting him for his money, he reluctantly agrees.

But when Russ sees a mysterious man with a magnificent reindeer antlers and mask, he's instantly intrigued. Even when their masks are removed, Leif has no idea who Russ really is, and what Russ discovers is a man who understands him. And for the first time ever, a man who doesn't want what Russ has. This time, it's Russ who wants what Leif has, what money can't buy.

Russ and Leif are about to learn that sometimes Reindeer Games are the only games worth playing.

Reindeer Games is a 42,000 word novella.

N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn't have it any other way.

She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who she gives them life with words.

She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things...but likes it even more when they fall in love. She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

She’s been writing ever since...

Who knew Rudolph could be such a sexy reindeer? When played by Leif he certainly is. Leif puts a whole new spin on antlers when he sculpts his own mask and headpiece for a fancy masquerade ball for charity to which his best friend wins tickets.

Leif is a industrial sculpture artist and a student. He lives with his foster mom, and her garage is his studio. Leif doesn't belong at a charity event for the wealthy, but he strolls in like he owns the place.

Russ, for once unrecognizable in a mask and leather, is drawn to Leif immediately. Russ is very wealthy and successful but lonely.

One night turns into something more. Maybe for once Russ won't have to spend Christmas alone.

I adored this story from beginning to end. It's insanely SEXY but meaningful too. Russ and Leif's best friends, Hot Kitty and Slutty Elf, were hilarious. Perhaps the men jumped into a relationship too quickly, but this is a holiday story; it's meant to taste like spun sugar. Delicious!

This is an N.R. Walker read so you can expect a consistent high quality in the writing and a higher level of complexity and development in the characters and their relationships, all of which is why she’s considered one of the absolute best authors in the genre.

That being said, this slightly kinky Christmas story didn’t grab me the way I was hoping it would.

Yes, the characters were well-formed and their relationship progressed organically, with enough sex and kink present to keep it interesting and enough emotional weight to make it all real and relatable. But... but, the general tone of the story and the themes within left me a little disconnected and, I daresay, even a bit bored at times. This is on me 100% because I simply wasn’t interested in the topics these characters talked about during the majority of their time together — namely topics relating to art and design.

Points though for the excellent chemistry and the natural progression of the relationship, as I completely believed that these two guys, who came from opposite ends of the socio-economic spectrum, would connect so quickly and fall in love so smoothly, despite their surface level differences. And that’s why this was worth a read and why I ultimately rated up!

This was a sweet, easy, feel good holiday read. There's no angst, just two people hooking up turning into something more. Russ is the grouchy billionaire who needs someone to show him he's worth more than his money and Leif is just what he needs. Something about this reminded me of the Thomas Elkin series. I think it had to do with how they talked about art and how the buildings were described with lines and purpose. I liked it. I want more though, to see them in the future. It's a HFN. Their relationship is really just beginning.

LOVED this one! Not sure if I just happened to be in the right mood or what.

Great start to the holiday reads though.

Even wish this one would have been more of a full story vs a novella. Still, it felt "complete" to me.

Low angst, nice steam.

I have zero complaints with this one!

Über X-mas fluff!!

This felt like an MF romance with two male characters. The dialogue was all very touchy feely—written by women for women. Nothing wrong with that but it was too insta and feely for me. Zero angst, some good heat, and sexy antlers. Don’t let the sexy cover fool you into thinking there were any relationship problems at all here (if you can call three days a relationship).

Don’t expect much and you’ll be entertained!

My rec: Sure, why not, ‘tis the season! 💕💕

I liked this story and the MC’s. It was very sweet. But I think it was a bit too short to really develop the characters. Also it took me several days to read because I didn’t feel compelled to keep going back to it so I’m giving it 3 stars.

I absolutely adored this short tale of two men finding love this holiday season.

Russ is rich but lonely, and he's really feeling it this holiday season as he remembers the family that disowned him when he came out to them as gay.

Lief is at the tail end of college for art, and he loves to make things out of scrap metal and the like and if very talented.

Every year Russ throws a masquerade at a local gay club - only it's very exclusive, so Lief and his best friend were lucky to win the tickets through something online.

When Russ' assistant practically drags him to the masquerade with a whole outfit and mask, Russ isn't very hopeful he'll find someone he really connects with. But then he sees Lief and everything changes.

Things happened quickly with these two, but it was very believable, they had such great chemistry and the romance between them was wonderful. I felt the connection from the first page, and this was such a sweet, classic N.R. Walker book - with some nice sexy times thrown in ;)

Overall a very good holiday book, with two great MC's who lit up the pages with their chemistry and romance. I definitely recommend this! :D

This was a lovely holiday story, I really enjoyed it.

I loved Leif and Russ as main characters and I loved Jamie and Caleb, too. I wouldn't mind reading about them some more.

Fantastic ! This fabulous tale was so much more than I imagined it would be ! What a pleasant surprise !
This is a run off from the awesome Ace's Wild series. The struggling artist and the wealthy man find each other at a masked ball, a fund raiser for the LGBT+ community, sponsored by wealthy man, Russ.
Leif is in college and sculpting art is his passion. He creates his reindeer mask for the event, where he meets an Assasin's Creed costumed man, Russ. Each man is drawn in, and highly interested. They have a very sexy marathon of hotness that night and through the next day.

Our men are perfect for one another, not just in bed. Feelings get deeper quickly, and they understand each other's inner selves. We get their back drops and we like these guys.
I love N.R. Walker's writing. This story is fresh, fun, has cute banter, all while it is hot and heavy, too. We get intense passions and deep thoughts.
Marvelous characters, a smooth story, and a fantastic conclusion that will give you a happy "sigh."

ENJOY ! Merry Christmas !

Cute, sweet, and romantic holiday romance. There's a dual POV, some on page sexy times, no angst, and a heart meltingly lovely happy ending. *sighs*

Her books are special.
I loved this charming, sweet book. Both heroes were lovable and perfect for each other. Secondary characters were so good and complimented the book very well. This was a low angst story but it was funny, emotional and Christmas themed.
Recommended.

I feel like the holidays blew by this year. Too soon, too fast, too much. Too tired to read. I'm trying to change that. Reindeer Games was an excellent start. A lovely romance. An unlikely pairing. It was a perfect lesson. Anything is possible. Make it work. Make it happen.

Yeah, I may just do that. 🦋

This was a fast, cute read. I did enjoy it but I didn’t love it. There was something missing that would have bumped it to love it level. Maybe the connection? 🤔 Not sure. Still worth reading for a nice holiday story with very light kink.

I generally like this author, but I found this one really lackluster. The smut and sexual dynamics didn't work for me at all, and I thought the whole thing felt forced and moved too quickly. This author is also a little overly obsessed with uber-rich MCs, and I find that so boring and uninspired.

I also (and this is for the overall series) don't really like Ace and Wilder and wish their presence was much lower in all of the books--again, it feels forced and a little hokey, and they don't feel like real people.

Reindeer Games is a sweet, fluffy and slightly kinky Christmas romance. It had great characters with great chemistry, and (as per usual) amazing writing and a cute concept (the reindeer thing was refreshing and funny).

I liked it, but I just couldn't love it. And that's a me thing. I knew going in that I'm not the biggest fan of novellas, because they often feel too rushed, too shallow. I tried to get over it, and tried to love it for what it was, but I couldn't.

Granted, this story didn't feel shallow (which is unsurprising considering that N.R. Walker wrote it)...... but it definitely felt rushed. Although their relationship progression seemed natural, organic even, it was too fast for my liking (I mean, they had like 3 dates before they professed their undying love.. just saying xD).

Nevertheless, highly recommended !

This story was just so sweet and heartfelt. Leif and Russ were a perfect pairing- Leif was exactly who Russ needed in his life. Surprisingly it was Russ, the successful millionaire who really tugged at my heartstrings- I would have thought it would have been Leif, the one wose life started out rough. Appearances can be deceiving, though, and they sure were in this case.
I would have loved a full length novel of these two, just because I really liked them so much! But Ms. Walker did a terrific job of giving us a fully fleshed out story in a limited number of words. She never fails to create characters who are so easy to fall in love with.
