Dark Supernaturals #1

Wraith Captive

Rate this book
No one believes I was at the wrong place at the wrong time...

Grant it, I kind of get it. I have been found around an abnormally large amount of dead people lately. The thing is, I'm not the dangerous murderer they think I am. If I could tell the truth about my not-so-human father, they'd understand.

But I can't.

Because his kind shouldn't be able to breed with humans, and because, well, it'd be an instant death sentence if they found out. So while the prison leaders know I'm not entirely human, they haven't figured what I am... yet.

Now, I just need to clear my name before someone discovers my secret. If only the four sexy inmates who've taken an interest in me understood that I'm not "playing hard to get."

I'm trying to save my life.

WRAITH CAPTIVE is a prison paranormal reverse harem romance. It's steamy, humorous, and with just the right amount of an edge. So come join an amazing group of authors in Nightmare Penitentiary, a place you'll never want to escape from.

Quick and entertaining but left me confused and the cliffhanger was frustrating.
No romance, in fact, it was the opposite of romance. They were all like, "suck my dick or those demons are gonna gangbang you," or, "tell us what we want to know, or we'll leave without you," type of stuff... It had a ton of sex scenes. But those scenes made me feel kinda bad for the FMC's ass. Even though she seemed to be enjoying it, there were so many "going in dry" anal moments that instead of feeling the sexy times, my butthole clenched up so hard I might never poop again.
I might read the next one... its on my list, but I don't see myself excitedly waiting for the release date and maybe reading it when I have nothing else going on.
Beautiful book cover though.

I'm randomly just picking books from this series. This one was pretty okay i just hated that we left on a cliffhanger... booo

Elizabeth is at the wrong place wrong time, she was discovered around a pile of dead bodies she keeps saying shes human, but she knows shes something else but its safer to keep up with that lie. Now shes being sent to Paranormal prison a woman in a prison full of supernatural things. She already getting in trouble her first day and is saved by a fimillar face. An ex fling she had a great summer with until he disappeared now she knows somewhat where he went. Along with him are his two friends Ax and Blade who are grumpy and fun ro be around. But her being their complicates things for them and their explain plan. Beside that feelings are being tossed around some sexy times with these men. And lot of death and secerts are finally shared between the 4.

Now the question is where the heck are they after their escape plan failed? Also i really want ppls to kill that warden and doctor who sexually assaults them. They need to die

Low angst, No ow/om drama, No cheating, Drama, sexy times, no virgins

Recommend- yeah

I've already discovered that it's quite hard to go wrong with Lacey Carter Andersen. (She has now written a slow burn too and I'm quite excited to get to that one! I normally am not a huge fan of fast burns, but she writes them amazingly well, so I love to see what she does with books that normally are much more up my alley!) But with every book I read by her she once more proves how great she is as an author.

This book is very clearly a fast burn. We don't really get to know the guys that well before they have sex with our heroine, however I always find Andersen's explanations for it very plausible and realistic. I think that's one of the main reasons it doesn't bother me so much. There is a reason for the sexual attraction and the more emotional and personal issues are not forgotten along the way. They just come after, but they do come eventually, always.

The plot of this book doesn't seem too big, however, it's interesting enough to have me wondering what's going on and what will happen in the next book. I kinda think that we've only seen the very beginning of everything and that there's a lot more to come. I have all my fingers crossed that in the next book we'll get some answers already! On top of that, I did enjoy getting to know the world, the species, the key players in this story and what kind of game is being played.

And I also really enjoyed the characters in this story! Elizabeth is a truly awesome heroine. She has sass, maybe a little too much, but it turns out she also has the power to back it up, so why not. She is brave and she's curious. She also has three amazing guys falling in love with her. They all have their own history and stories to tell and I love how they are so different, and not only species wise. I'm really excited to get to know all of them better in the next book!

Cliffhanger

This is the first book of this series that ended in a cliffhanger and I’m not all that impressed. The plot is ok a bit plodding for me, but that’s because the book is a lead in. I was interested in the harem, though the introduction of the guys sucks. It’s too wham bam for each guy; it’s basically insta love with a slap o sex. I was frustrated with the female, her insistence that she as human in the face of literally everything gets old faster than the authors resolve the point. It’s not a story that make much of an impact, though the idea of the characters had some promise. I’m not sure I’ll bother with the follow up because it’s scheduled for a September release. I probably won’t remember this book long enough to remember to read that one.

This was more steamy, than romantic.
The writing was quick, compelling and direct.
Sometimes things were a little “easy” but overall rather cool.
Loved the halfbreed twist. Such cool “mixes”.
Miss a little more world building, but I love how sassy Elisabeth is.
I enjoyed it. 😎

Standalone does not mean "here's a cliffhanger, wait three months for more" to me. So that was annoying.
It wasn't bad, I might recommend it to people who don't mind cliffhangers, but if I read the next book it'll be by accident not design. I don't like that kind of false advertising when I'm looking for standalones to lower my stress level with. Makes me distrust the author.

Rating: 3.75 ⭐️
Spice: 3.5-4/5 spice 🌶, many MF scenes, and one RH scene
Tropes: RH, mates
Genre: paranormal romance

Honestly not bad. I chose a random paranormal RH and was pleasantly surprised. There’s a lot of spice. I’ve been DNF-ing books left and right but this held my interest. Good premise and plot. I liked the FMC but wish I knew more about her. Our FMC is in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up thrown into a supernatural prison.

Cons: there are a lot of plot holes in this and not a lot of world building. I wanted to know more about the FMC and the book could have been longer. Ends on a huge cliffhanger. I also hate that Gabriel is really reluctant about the RH. Pushing possessive men into a poly situation is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Not the best RH I’ve ever read, but not the worst.

Really enjoyed this book set in the Nightmare Penitentiary setting. Liked getting to know Elizabeth and her guys and their budding relationship. All in all good start to the series.

What is going on in that prison??

If you’ve followed Nightmare Penitentiary so far, then you are well acquainted with the warden, along with the nuances of this sprawling place. Into that saga comes a new set of characters, each a supernatural of dubious design. It showcases the prison a bit more, the lax, though brutal, guards, and the seemingly ambiguous undercurrent that flows through the entire inner connected universe. It’s strange. This book, unlike a couple of the others, is not stand alone (which is odd, since the subtitle says STANDALONE), as these characters will go on to finish their story (or so it appears? It ends on a cliffhanger), which is great - because things are far from settled, or even really started, for this quartet.

First person, PNR, Fast burn RH, MMMF, multiple POV
Rating = mature
Character age range = 20’s

Pros:
- I like her spirit.
- The warden shows up again.
- I like the characters individually, not sure about together though.

Cons:
- Emotional build is blah
- Takes place over maybe 2 days?
- Brina..... I’ve off these books needs to off her. Seriously.

Another wicked book by Lacey. In this book we meet Elizabeth who is grading papers. When things start to go crazy, the lights start flashing and eventually she is pulled to several dead bodies and then in turn is sent to paranormal prison.
When she arrives she finds out she is the only woman, when she is rescued by her ex Gabriel and she meets Ax and Blade. From here we see things go crazy with the books many twists and turns. Plus we also get to read the story from the guys pov also which is really good to see how they all feel towards Elizabeth.
With so much more I can say but that will give to much away, the last thing I will say is that it ends on a crazy cliffhanger ending leaving you not knowing what's next. Loved it

Compelling & unique

This was such a good read... though I anticipated this to be a standalone. It’s not. Forewarning: it’s NOT A STANDALONE. Any less awesome? No! Shove me off a cliff and make me go NOOOO!!! WTF?! at the end? ABSOLUTELY. I NEED book two. I need to know EVERYTHING!!

Lubeless

The plot here is tissue paper-thin. If one were to edit out the frequent graphic sex with multiple partners (the fmc, Elizabeth, has more traffic moving through her various “holes” -yes, that is the word the author uses- than the Holland and Lincoln tunnels combined), or the action sequences that are strangely reminiscent of The Rock’s reality competition show “The Titan Games”, not much happens. Because the author takes great pains to have all of the characters be paranormal hybrids, one would think that might have some kind of relevance to the story. It doesn’t. In fact, the author never quite gets around to discussing Elizabeth’s skills/abilities as a half-wraith.

Elizabeth is thrown into prison for a crime that she obviously didn’t commit and within a single day is having contortionist sex with 3 different guys, within a week she has fallen in love with 4 men, by day 8 is pregnant with twins by them, and by day 10 is saving the world as a tie-in to another series by the same author. If the instalove isn’t a dealbreaker, there is also a significant continuity and logistical problem with the plot. Why there would be a death competition to see which team of paras survived to go to the next death competition? Or how the first set of deaths and the kidnapping that Elizabeth was accused of perpetrating was the motivation for the multiple death competitions in order to mount a rescue? If the Oracle was kidnapped and the Enforcers killed in the first chapter of book 1, how was it that the warden had been orchestrating the attacks on the prisoners and escape attempt long before Elizabeth was sent to prison? Not to mention that Storm had been in the death competition for several weeks, if not months, possibly years before the rescue mission - and had repeated visions of Elizabeth and her guys all dying before the mission to save the world.

LCA has been a powerhouse lately and has really been cranking out books left and right. I'm not complaining because I really enjoy what she writes. They are usually unique and steamy and well keep me coming back for more. My case in point in fact is reading her 3 latest prison books back-to-back (glutton for a good book).
Okay so, while this book starts off good and I really enjoy that it ties into some of the rest of the NP series (that I really enjoy from various other authors). I love the author brings in aspects that you read in the other NP books, like the CorpseSnare. All that being said, I was about to b!tch slap Elizabeth if didn't quit saying "I'm human." Enough Ho ain't nobody believe you. You are in a supernatural prison, surrounded by paranormal who say they can sense and/or smell your power - stop saying your human. It was getting old 20 pages ago. I almost wanted her to get eaten (I'm sorry LCA. I love you, but some one knock the girl up side the head, please 🙏🙏🙏 ). I liked the mystery behind the guys, not knowing who or what they were out what they were capable of. It gave for some added drama. So I'm give it a 3 stars because it's me not the book. Elizabeth is just not a character I could connect with except a hand upside the head to tell her to get it together. . . But once again that on me and not the book. It's a solid plot and the writing was what you expect with LCA - drama, steamy fun, intrigue, WHAT?!?, Cliffie😁

Wraith Captive is the first book in Lacey Carter Andersen’s new Dark Supernaturals series. This book is a paranormal prison book and it is full of drama, suspense, steamy and some seriously dangerous situations for the characters. Get ready to meet Elizabeth, a character who walks around telling herself that she’s human, but the truth is…she’s a half-breed pretending to be human, but she’s about to find herself thrown in prison for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. But things are only going to get worse from there, but there will be a bright side to it…a reunion is in store.
Wraith Captive is an engaging paranormal prison novel. Elizabeth intrigues me from the beginning especially when lights flicker around her and then go out. She’s rarely unnerved at first, but when the pull seizes her I know that something bad is about to happen. I love her relationship with her mother, but I also wonder what secrets her mother is keeping from her. The story is well-paced and engaging throughout. I’m fascinated by Elizabeth and her hidden powers, but I’m also intrigued by the men that she meets. The warden I find rather curious, and I have to admit that I’m eager to learn more about him as well, and the “good” doctor.
While there are moments of where I don’t mind Elizabeth’s attitude and snark there are moments of where I think she needs to learn when to hold her tongue and have more sense. Her mouth and stubbornness get her into trouble that could be avoided if she used her sense instead of just running her mouth or thinking that prison is really the place to try and be modest. Also, the “I’m human” lie…gets old…fast. She’s obviously NOT fully human, and the people who threw her into prison would hardly make THAT big of a mistake. Besides, if she REALLY wanted to pass off that lie of “I’m human” wouldn’t it make more sense for her to…NOT run her mouth and accept the help from the guys willingly to stay safe from the prison full of men who would love to have a turn with her?
I enjoy the book though and I’m looking forward to book two in this series. There are some nice steamy moments in this book and one where it’s a group “activity.” I couldn’t get enough of it. I am choosing to rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off a star because of Elizabeth having what I classify as “dumb” moments. She needed/needs a reality check that in prison…modesty is a luxury and the guys getting away with protecting her all the time…it’s a bit overdone and takes away from the prison element since I felt that they should be punished in some form for constantly getting in the way of the guards. Plus, the lie she constantly spouts off…too much. It’s obviously a lie and obvious no one is buying it whatsoever. If you enjoy books by this author and like a good reverse harem then I think that you will enjoy reading this book.

ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING!!!
Fantastic! Lacy totally rocked this beautifully composed storyline and spinning plot with on point realism, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Pulling those churning emotions running rampant and intensifies them through you, front and center, with what feels like gale force winds steadily battering against our heart and soul. Pushing through trials and tribulations keeping pace with a slew of stunning twists and sharp turns blaze this bad boy to life with staggering results. This little jewel is as riveting as it is captivating. The drama, intrigue, danger and spiraling suspense grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. Satisfaction is an understatement, this baby comes packing a punch, testing our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. Yeah! It doesn't get any better than this. The characters chemistry sizzles from the pages and suck you in so deeply until you feel the heat and electricity thrumming through your veins. The characters are authentic, genuine and realistic with such depth and individuality it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. Their on point personalities blend and flow fluidly. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive it's like being transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Lacy, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Elizabeth tries to live as a normal human, but her true heritage is a curse. As a daughter of a wraith, she is naturally drawn to death, having premonitions when it's going to happen and having no control over her body when death occurs. Hence her stellar track record of appearing at the scenes with dead bodies. Now, again at a wrong place in a wrong time, she is taken and put into supernatural prison as the only woman among men, and her future is not exactly bright. Moreover, she meets her kind of ex Gabriel and his friends at the prison, too - which could either be her salvation, or damnation.
Fast-paced paranormal story with lots of dark and violent scenes, many contrasting emotions, and drama following every step of Elizabeth's life. I found the story captivating and very well written even despite the darkness, balanced by the romance and passion that intertwined with the story and clashed with the action in a very alluring way. Interesting and complex characters reveal the various layers of their personalities gradually, keeping the tension high (which was high anyway due to how the story progressed). I loved the coming together of the main characters, and am hooked by the last scene to read on the series.

Mysterious, steamy, magical. Elizabeth is part human and part wraith, and whenever she is near death something forces her to the body of the deceased. She hates it. And then one night she is forced to the scene of six dead vampires and she is blamed for their death and sent to a supernatural prison, as the only female there. But a lover from her past, Gabriel, is there along with his friends Ax and Blade. The three of them have been planning on breaking out and now she will go with them. But something has been coming in the night and killing prisoners. No one sees it but every night it takes prisoners from on cell. And the night it comes for Elizabeth and Blade she is able to kill it. But how? The warden wants to know what she is and will torture her and do experiments on her so the four have to leave that night. But what if the beast comes back before they can escape? Oh my goodness, this book was amazing. I loved how fast I got sucked into this book. There is so much that goes on but at the same time so much mystery. We do get some answers to some questions but there is still a lot left unanswered. So we know that Elizabeth keeps a tight lid on her supernatural side. Why? Per her research they will kill her. So does someone know who she is? Then you have Gabriel, Ax and Blade who are just as intriguing. So we all know they all have a dark side and are attracted to her. She is to them as well. Nightmare Penitentiary is no place to be and it sounds as horrendous as its name. It seems have nightmares that are told to your children to keep them in line however it is being used for something. But what? What of the corpsesnare and why did it not attack her? Ugh I need answers and hopefully I will not have to wait to long. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Our heroine is sent to the supernatural penitentiary on flimsy grounds and that just serves to make her a bit angry. Enter three men willing to help her out.

This is a paranormal romance with a reverse harem theme. Like all the previous books by this author which I have read, the story is well written and easy to read. The story takes place in a shared world setting which is richly developed and has lots of intriguing aspects to explore. The characters are also well developed, all with distinct personalities which blend together in interesting ways. This is almost an insta-love story, so if you prefer the slow burn variety, this is not it. The plot is also well done and moves along at a good pace, which made this a fun and easy read. On a last note, the story does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so keep that in mind. Overall, a highly enjoyable story.

Highly recommended.

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to finish this one because I just couldn't get in to the first half of the story. I pushed on because I'd promised an ARC, and I found that I did end up enjoying the story. You have to feel for the FMC going to prison for being in the wrong place at the wrong time because you have an innate pull to death. What makes the prison so bad is 1. Being the only female in the entire prison. 2. There's something supernatural killing the inmates. & the worst one of all 3. Your ex is a prisoner there & the entire prison is afraid of him. What's a girl to do when he takes her under his protection along with the only other 2 half-breeds in the prison & having to come to accept her other side is the only thing between her & escaping.

The characters are interesting once you get about halfway thru the story. There are some steamy scenes & lots of action.

Fantastic!!

I am in love with this prison series!! This one is by the wonderful Lacey Carter Anderson who is always good for a steamy read. This one is no exception as we meet our FMC who is a half breed wraith. She is drawn to death which is how she gets arrested since she is drawn to the scene of a really big group of dead bodies. Thrown into the prison as the only female makes things a little rough at least until she runs into an old flame they are all terrified of. Between him and his two friends she is kept safe as the danger increases for them all. Makes it necessary for all their secrets to come out while leading to one doozy of a cliff hanger ending. I cannot wait for the next book. A must read for fans of paranormal prison RH. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

Elizabeth is keeping a secret that noone can know. She is drawn to death. She is campus when she gets the pull of death. She finds bodies of dead people, one man speaks to her. She is surrounded and tries to explain she didn't do it. They don't believe her and throw her in prison.
Elizabeth doesn't know how she will survive this prison. She is saved by her ex-boyfriend that just disappeared. He is with 2 others guys. Elizabeth is attracted to all of them. She will keep her battle of wills with all of them. While they all try to survive being in the prison. Things will escalate when the head of prison has Elizabeth on his radar.

This was a great first book in series. I really enjoyed reading it. Elizabeth can be a little annoying at times. The twist and turns of each character with the back drop of what is happening at the prison is really good.

I love this shared world and especially this storey line as i think i am in love with the idea that misfits stick together and protect their own.
There are some strong personalities in this group and a further possible partner in Storm whom i would love to learn more about his back storey which i am sure will be released in book 2.
This starts off based in the main prison but switched later to almost a Hunger Games/Maze runner theme but done in teams to survive however other than fighting to remain alive we don’t know what any end game is which makes for a lot of intrigue
Plenty of heat and early on multiple partner sex scenes which i am hoping don’t become too repetitive by book 2 as there is only so much you can do when you there early in a book.
Really enjoyable and definitely not slow burn!

I might have given this another 🌟 if this wasn't advertised as a standalone but then finished on a cliffhanger. I detest cliffhangers with a passion thus avoid them like the plague so don't like being conned into reading one.
As for the book itself the plot didn't have much depth and never really moved forward probably because it isn't a standalone but I didn't know that until the end. I did like the premise, it was quite unique just want enough of it. Loved the FMC though and (sometimes) I rather liked the guys but all the other characters were a little cardboard cutout-ish especially the doctor and the warden as we never got to meet them properly. Sadly I won't be carrying on with this one.

This book was sooooo good I was reading in anxious anticipation the entire time. Elizabeth and her men are everything. I experienced so many emotions while reading that I can’t determine how I feel at this point. I’m disappointed that it’s over, happy I read it, and anxious to read part two. Goodness this part of the series definitely left an everlasting impression. It also leaves me with high expectations for the author and the next installment. There can be no slacking I need the same nail biting, sitting at the edge of my seat experience. All I’m saying is this book is a banger and the author must release another follow up banger.

Death seems to follow Elizabeth (FMC) and when six men die the finger points at her. Regardless of her innocence shes sentenced and sent to Nightmare Penitentiary. A prison full of hardened Supernatural criminals.Which makes Elizabeth out of her depth as well as being a woman. That in itself is unusual and dangerous for her. Except when she gets there she becomes the focus of Gabriel (someone she already knows) and his friends Ax & Blade. Steamy scenarios with all guys follow throughout this book as they help her survive prison life. I loved the dynamic with them all and the part where she feeds Blake is so flaming hot!! Omg!! Loving this 1st book in this series so much. Its a bloody brilliant read

I found it hard to get into at first, with the bits of information that seemed random at the time. But things slowly started coming together and I got more and more drawn into the story. Then it was over. I got so drawn in, that I had finished the book without even realizing it, and was left needing more. It’s slow to start(not for lack of intense moments, but for the small snippets of information you get about the character/s. once you get in, however, it’s like jumping off into the deep end. The MFC is sassy, and headstrong, but also timid and hesitant to trust her gut about some things. This book is full of intense moments, steamy scenes, and one hell of a cliffhanger that leaves you feeling incomplete. I loved it.

Who doesn't love a steamy paranormal prison romance?

I really loved this book. Elizabeth is an amazing combination of sassy strong and hopelessly naive.

This book is fast-paced action-packed (in both the steamy and literal sense).

I love the diversity of all the guys' powers and of course Elizabeth's mysterious heritage, which we don't find out until near the end.

The guys also have pretty diverse personalities which also makes for an interesting read, as their friendship dynamic is really cool and quite interesting.

This was a brilliant prison romance with awesome heroes and a boss heroine who knows what she wants.

The cliff this one left me on was immense and I really would like the next one right now (pretty please?)

Quick Release...

Many authors have succumbed to the draw of quick releases, and with quick release books, there is often a drop in quality for creativity, character development, and plot (speaking a plot holes, errors, etc). This isn't a horrible quick release, as the plot is decent, though it's compounded into something different than what is was meant to be. The plot has changed trajectory, though whether it's for the better has yet to be determined.

There is a lot of action. I don't care for the forced sexual activities. She's never raped, nor does she come close to being a victim of it. She does end up with an unwanted audience a couple of times, I don't like how everyone other than them are cruel.
