Happily Ever His

Rate this book

Tess was used to being in the shadows. But when movie star Ryan McDonnell pulls her into the spotlight, her whole world is threatened. Can a relationship that starts as a secret fantasy ever survive in the real world?

My sister Juliet has always gotten everything she wants.  It’s fine though. I never wanted the spotlight. That was my sister’s domain. And now that she’s America’s most popular starlet? She can have it.

But when Gran—the feisty woman who raised us, and who I cannot seem to wean off video games, an afternoon doobie, or her daily Manhattan—has a huge party to celebrate her 90th birthday, Juliet brings the Hollywood madness straight to Maryland.

In the form of my ultimate movie-star crush, Ryan McDonnell. I can barely form a sentence around the guy (at least I don’t still have a poster of him on my wall). And I definitely can’t get over the fact that he’s Juliet’s new boyfriend.

I just need to get through the weekend with them—and with the magazine people who are covering them and the party for a feature. I just need to stay away from Ryan and his warm curious eyes, his perfectly chiseled arms, and the impossibly sexy things that come out of his mouth when we’re alone together.

It’s only one weekend, and I just need to remember that Ryan is an actor. A good one. Because I almost believe him when he tells me we have a chance together.

If you're looking for a snort-laugh-inspiring romcom with lovesick housechickens, video game-playing grannies, and hot swoony heroes, you're in luck! Grab the first book in this duet today! (Both books are full-length standalones with happily ever afters and no cliffhangers!)

I'm USA Today Bestselling author Delancey Stewart. My contemporary romances run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It's a guarantee.

I write from my home in Denver, CO, where I manage a household full of boys and men. Okay, only one man. The hubs. But two boys. I mean, three if you count the hubs. (You see why I do words and not numbers. I was told there'd be no math in this bio. Someone lied.)

I grew up in California and have had more jobs than anyone on earth (personal trainer, pharmaceutical rep, copywriter, tech writer, marketing director, wine seller, elementary school teacher... I'm not kidding. The list. It goes on.) But the one I love the most is writing, in part because I get to meet people who love books and stories as much as I do! I've been in a bit of a reading slump recently. It isn't often when I read the first book of a bona fide series only to have it bite the dust. That's happened to me three times in the past three weeks, and I've gotten a little sad. It's time for something light and fun from probably the only chick lit author I'm willing to read, Delancey Stewart. Fingers crossed.

1.5 stars.

Upon finishing, I can't say I enjoyed the story in this one. Actually, it made me pretty angry. The angst was contrived and annoying. Basically, the h's sister and the H could've called off the deception at any time but of course it dragged on until almost the end. I didn't like the h's sister for being so self absorbed and I didn't like that the h turned into hormonal goo whenever the H was around. The H seemed like a genuinely nice guy, but the fact that he was contractually bound and "honour bound" to play the h's sister's boyfriend? Not so nice.

Safety

I liked the dual povs. And I also liked the scene when the h finally tells her sister how she's felt all these years about their relationship. But that's about it. I'm sad that I didn't really like this one.

Happily Ever His is a unique, funny twist on the “fake relationship” trope, with a love-at-first-sight bonus, in addition to funny pets and grandmas.

Sidenote: If you are a Delancey Stewart fanatic, or are in her Facebook group, you will have a BUNCH of fangirl moments reading this book with all the little Easter eggs she weaves into the story. It’s *amazing*.

Tess Manchester knows who she is. She’s a strong woman, aware that she’s not a movie-star, maybe, but is comfortable in her own skin. It’s refreshing. Ryan McDonnell is at a crossroads, of sorts, and didn’t realize it until he met Tess. He’s a pretty awesome, stand-up guy, as well. Truly, these two were good on their own. The only obstacles they faced were a fake relationship, a country dividing them, and maybe the reality of Hollywood LA versus the reality of Hollywood, Maryland.

Now. Let’s talk regret-waffles, house-chickens and pot-smoking, Manhattan-drinking, World of Warcraft-playing Grandmas. Or let’s not. You should definitely read for the hilarity that ensues.

This book is funny, charming, heart-warming, and just compelling (I couldn’t put it down. I completely ignored all responsibilities to read it in one sitting). I can’t wait to hear Juliet Manchester’s story in Happily Ever Hers.

I love Delancey Stewart’s style of writing. I was lucky enough to be given this book as an ARC.
This book is light hearted, charming, sassy, and such a lovely book to read. I read this in one sitting despite wanting to kick a couple of characters up the backsides, either that or bang their heads together to get them to sort it out.
You’ve got a handsome actor, beautiful actress and the sister that thinks she isn’t good enough, hot burly bodyguards, a house chicken, and a grandma that I defy any one of you, when you get this book and read it, not to fall in love with, if not actually say”I want her”, like I did. Because you will.
This book covers a few different tropes but no matter what trope floats your boat, get this book for a fun loving read that makes the world seem just right and enjoy!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Sometimes this particular fake-relationship storyline can become a hot mess and make me want to stop reading, especially when the falling in love isn’t happening between the fake couple.

BUT Delancey Stewart is a wonderful writer who wrote the story line and characters so amazingly that Happily Ever His was not one of those and I barely put it down once I started reading it.

It has all the goodies I love in the books I read...Light, fun, quirky(house chicken..), sweet with a dash of sexiness, a fun grandma and so much more. I’m excited and can hardly wait to read Juliet’s story.

The first book in Delancey Stewart’s new duo was everything I hoped it would be! I’m a sucker for stories where a famous person finds love with someone unexpected. There’s something about them being seen & loved for their true selves that makes my heart full.

Before you go thinking it’s all mushy gushy, know there’s also a lovesick chicken & a Grandma with a Warcraft addiction wandering these pages too! I love how Delancey balances the romance with the comedy and this novel is no exception.

Tess is the steady granddaughter, caring for her Grandmother and living a predictable life, low excitement and low risk. Most of the time, she’s fine with leaving the excitement to her movie star sister. Until her sister invades Grandma’s birthday with the craziness of Hollywood and Tess’s movie star crush!

Ryan sees his Hollywood star fading and hopes being connected with Hollywood’s favorite starlet will pull him back. Little did he know he started a connection with the wrong sister! Get ready for confusion, paparazzi, and black forest cake in this road to love.

What if you met your celebrity crush but he was dating your sister?

Happily Ever His is the first book in the Movie Stars in Maryland Duet. Movie star Juliet Manchester is going through a rough divorce and to help distract the press she enlists the help of fellow actor Ryan McDonnell to fake a new romance. They are traveling back to Juliet’s hometown in Maryland to celebrate her grandmother’s 90th birthday. Juliet’s younger sister, Tess, has had a long time crush on Ryan. Used to being overshadowed by Juliet, Tess is thrown for a loop when her sister’s boyfriend seems to notice her. No one notices Tess with Juliet in the vicinity.

I really enjoyed this story. Great characters - Chessy the lovesick house chicken, falls for one of Juliet’s bodyguards and Gran, the pot smoking, World of Warcraft obsessed birthday girl, are hilarious. Ryan is down to earth in spite of being famous; Tess is sweet and a bit awkward. The development of the romance between Tess and Ryan is well written. I loved this book and can’t wait to read the second half of this duet- Happily Ever Hers (Juliet’s story) - when it releases in early September.

I loved Ryan and Tess! The storyline behind this book was unique and well-thought-out. I'm not sure I believe too much in love at first sight, although my dad swears he fell for my mom that way ;). But Delancey made it believable in telling this story. I was glad to see all of the lies and secrecy come to the open, earlier rather than later. I would have loved to hear more about Ryan's somewhat hasty decision to essentially leave Hollywood, maybe that he was ready for a career change, not for love alone. But overall I loved this story and I can't wait to hear Juliette's story and what was hinted at in this book! Oh and I freakin loved Gran!! I can't wait to hear more from her!

This book got all my favourite tropes, fake relationship/romcom/movie star. I'm so amused and in awe by this perfect couple. The attraction is scorching hot and almost impossible to deal with. Instant love when you try to act like you are in another relationship isn't the best way to start things off. Especially when the one you are faking with is the sister. Since the guy is a utterly good guy, it's heart wrenching for him to continue to fake it, but what can he do. He has already given his word, and are under contract. And they are constantly watched. The characters are so real to me and some are hilarious, like the WoW-addicted grandmother. The animals are just as uncontrollable as the feelings and you can't seem to stop turning those pages. I even got to cry both sad and happy tears. Who can ask for more? My family was lucky enough to have sent me away on vacation, because nobody was going to come between me and my new book boyfriend. No time for cooking, cleaning or acting like a chauffeur. Dive in and stay in this world. All I can say is, you don't want to miss this.

This was a great read. Ryan's career is going down the drain after landing lad in a few flops. With him needing the money from his career to help support his father, this is a bad time. So when he gets offered a chance to be a fake boyfriend to America's sweetheart in a chance to up his career, he can't say no. Going with Juliet to her grandmother's birthday party and have a few interviews is passer for the course. But love at first sight with the leading lady's sister, it was not part of the plan. Tess has always come second, that's what happens when your gorgeous sister is a movie star. Boys never suck with het long after meeting her sister, or they did just to get closer to Juliet. So when Juliet brings home Tess's long time movie crush, it's hard to believe her sister would do that to her. But after years of dealing with boys wanting her sister instead of her, it's going to be hard for Ryan to break through. Or is it? Voluntary review of an advanced reader's copy via booksprout

I’ve never been much into believing Love at First Sight, but this book just might have changed my mind. I have never read this authors books before but this will not be my last one, an absolute thrill to read.

A truely delightful, mixed up love story that is full of fun and drama and crazy chickens and a quirky gran and also an undeniable chemistry that was evident to all those around them if only she could trust those feelings. Enjoy! I did.

I received this as an arc and I am giving my honest review voluntarily

I loved Happily Ever His! The book is well written with detailed characters. I like how the book alternates between Tess and Ryan's point of view. I love the characters! Tess and Ryan are great and their romance is perfect and sweet. Gran is very interesting and funny. This book has it all, humor, romance, drama, some steamy scenes and great character interactions. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I just finished reading “Happily Ever His” by Delancey Stewart. This book has it all: humor, a love-sick attack chicken, amazing characters, a sweet romance and some drama. The story is original and fun with some quirky and entertaining characters.

Even if you don't usually read books that fall into the Fake Relationship trope you should still check this one out it is worth your time.

Oh my goodness this book was sweet and sexy and full all rolled up into one book I didn't want to end.
Ryan and Tess might be one of my favorite love at first sight books I've read. I wants to be as cool as Gran when I grow up and Chessy is obviously is my spirit animal lol.

I need book 2 right now.

OMG, I loved this book. This is the third book that I have read from Delancey and I am so glad that I found her work. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading it. Tess and Ryan were so made for each other. Tess has had a crush on Ryan forever. She is finally able to see her crush up close and personal and the attraction between them was so hot. This book had everything – laugh out loud moments, drama, great characters and of course some steamy scenes. I can’t wait to read book 2. I need it now.

Superficial image against reality and honesty.
4.5
Very good story in which the manipulation of the image of a Hollywood star comes parasitize the attraction of her sister for her fake boyfriend.
Through this romance, it is a good reflection against the paparrazades, these actions organized between the stars and the journalists to restore their images or to create a false story to forget another one. This is what happens in this story: Ryan partners with Juliet so that she can no longer appear depressed after her divorce because it damages her image as a romantic comedy actress, and Ryan could boost his career with this false bond under contract. This plan is harmed when Ryan meets Tess, Juliet's sister who has a normal life, who takes care of her grandmother and her sports activities she organizes. It is the opposite of Hollywood materialism and its superficiality.
I loved the pretty tender characters, but they're trapped in their own lives, except for the grandmother who at 90 years lives the life she wants: being a teenager geek hanging on her computer to play Warcraft for hours and insulting the game or other players.

This is the first book I have read by Delancey Stewart and I just loved the twist on the storyline. It was more than I expected and pulled at my heartstrings as well as made me laugh out loud.

With a plan to boost his career and, hopefully, land a great movie deal, Ryan agrees to pretend to be in a relationship with a famous actress, Juliette. Ryan is a sweetheart and he has sweet-talked his way into my life! Tess is Juliette’s sister and has had a long time crush on movie star Ryan. Their chemistry is off the charts and things get very complicated.

With a hilarious ninety year old sassy, doesn’t give a damn, Gran and a crazy lovestruck house chicken, this book kept me very entertained. I was pleasantly surprised with the storyline and have had watery eyes a couple of times at the sappy stuff coming out of Ryan’s mouth. Swoon.

This book is well worth a read.

Hollywood stars Juliet and Ryan are pretending to be lovers but when he meets Juliet's sister Tess he is strongly attracted but he has to stick with the plan to try and improve Juliet and his reputation. This is a really cute story with a funny grandmother who is a whiskey drinking and is addicted to video games.

Happily Ever His is a fake romance rom-com. It cleverly highlights everything fake about Hollywood and the illusion of fame. It is a good romance that will touch your heart and there is a HEA. The characters are believable and likeable, in particular I absolutely adore video game addicted Gran who is the star of the book for me... and hilarious. Also, house chickens ... brilliant. I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it to all rom-com fans.

This book took me for an emotional tailspin that had me invested from the very beginning. What an interesting story - Hollywood boy sets up relationship with Hollywood girl, only to fall for Hollywood girl's sister and hometown instead. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this storyline, but it was so good!

There are so many good parts to this book, but I love Gran most of all. I think all readers will fall in love with her, too (maybe more than the main characters, even though they're great as well). Ryan and Tess have a fairytale love, but it's not all cut and dry - which I appreciated. They have to navigate their individual sets of circumstances in order to find happiness, and it was quite the ride to true love.

I was sad to see this story end - especially since I pretty much fell in love with Gran - but I'm very excited to read the next book in this series!

This book has tons of the feels and plenty of parts that had my laughing out loud. I loved how Ryan and Tess were drawn to each other and how we got to see the real Ryan come out in the story. I absolutely adored Gran! She has so much spunk and attitude she almost stole the book! There were plenty of touching moments that made me sigh in happiness and I really just enjoyed diving into the whole story line. With plenty of description, this book made me want to come visit Maryland and find a movie star of my own.

I knew I was going to love this the minute I started reading it! Movie star Juliet needs a fake boyfriend who better to act the part than former co-star Ryan. Juliet is heading home for her Gran's 90th birthday party (Gran is hysterical) and takes Ryan with her. Tess, Juliet's sister is also there, Tess is a huge fan of movie star Ryan. When Ryan and Tess first meet its pretty much love at first sight for both! Can't wait for Juliet's story! I was lucky enough to get my hands on an early copy of this and this is my honest review.

Loved this book! Looking forward to the second installment. Gran is my new favorite person, ever. I hope to be just like her. She is turning 90 but until then she is 59, just like she has been for years! Also, she thinks pigs are the devil but on that she and I will have to disagree.

Also, I kinda want my own house chicken now, especially if it comes with a Jack...

But really, this story is about Ryan and Tess and the unlikely couple that they become despite all kinds of craziness. One of my absolute favorite moments was just a kiss. It was a great kiss. "And when I kissed her in that tent, in front of the crowd, when I revealed the truth that had been in my heart since the day I’d seen Tess Manchester, my world snapped into alignment."

Definitely check this out and get ready for the next one!

This is the first book in the Movie stars in Maryland Series by Delancey Stewart but It can be read Standalone. This is the first book I have read of Delancey Stewart and I am honoured to review this.
This book is about the Movie actor Ryan Mcdonell who is facing a struggle in his career and the only option left for him to get in the contract with the one of the best actress Juliet Manchester. Everything was going great but when he went to Maryland, Juliet's Hometown everything Got changed.
Tess Manchester, a Normal girl, living her best life in Maryland with her Granny but her life takes a sudden turn when her famous Hollywood sister came to Maryland with her Boyfriend and Tess's Longtime crush Ryan, to celebrate the Granny birthday for the weekend.
Well, What will happen when a Hollywood Actor falls in love with a normal girl of Maryland? Obviously, not an easy task when there is her sister's feeling is involved.
I really liked the story especially the concept and the story plot. Quite refreshing for me. The chemistry of the Characters is Great and I love the character of Granny she is just Amazing. And obviously, there will be a lot of Jealousy when there is a case of actors. If you love stories about the actors and looking for a cute love story then this book is perfect for you.

Tess and Ryan have the sorta instalove/insta attraction with complications. This book has the whole movie star/fake relationship/fake relationship's sister. Ryan is a movie star going through a rough patch, he needs to get back in the scene, so they stage a relationship with the popular actress going through some drama to stablize her reputation. And, he goes with her to her hometown, where he meets Tess, the sister of said new fake girlfriend.

I love Tess' strong personality, her love for her grandmother and growing feelings for Ryan. I really enjoyed this story. The chicken with a crush, the video gaming hilarious grandmother, the sweet swoony movie star. Tess has always been overlooked, overshadowed and passed over, but she lives happily doing her thing, fighting her feelings for this famous celebrity who is worming his way into her heart. Second guessing herself about his life and how/why would she belong in his world.....

This story was fun, adorable, sweet, funny, and his declaration of love is totally swoonyyyyy!!! I would recommend it!
