Good Gifts: A Study of James

Rate this book
God gives us many good gifts in this life. But if God is so good, why do terrible things come into our lives? Why is there so much brokenness, so much pain in the world around me? And why on any given day do I feel like I know God is good, but I can't see it very clearly? The book of James teaches us about God's goodness and God's definition of good, so we can begin to see this good more clearly in our lives each day. James also teaches us about a little thing called congruence and living in grace and truth, rather than just knowing about grace and truth. James pushes us out of our comfort zone, while reminding us that in Jesus, God's good gift at the end of the day is always grace.Good Gifts has five days of study in the Word each week. Each day is a 10-15 minute read. There is lots of white space for notes and processing. Gather to study with a group, or enjoy a moment of one-on-one time with God. As with every resource from heidigoehmann.com, you'll get plenty of insight on mental health and genuine relationships, always wrapped in the Hope of Jesus.

I finished this the morning my family and I are about to become official members of our local Lutheran church so good timing! My church was doing a Bible study from this author (another one) so I decided to check this out bc it’s available on KU.

I thought this was so encouraging!! A good reminder of Gods promises and instructions. The instructions part was never shame-y and the author redirected us to Christ often. Overall I would recommend.

Our women's small group enjoyed this study of James. We felt it was a good amount of material each week, not too much or too little. We could manage it well in our busy schedules. It was easy to transition to Zoom-only discussions when Covid19 hit.

You can tell Heidi did a lot of research on James! Her study was well thought out. We also loved how she wove in mental health focused questions. Lastly, we appreciated how she brought up the Gospel in the conversation.

It has been months since we finished the study, but we still recall discussions from it. We highly recommend Heidi's studies for any women's groups!

While I really enjoyed studying the different facets of James, this felt a bit choppy at points, and sometimes I felt like I couldn't follow the bouncing ball. Overall great content.
