Poison

Rate this book
He was the man who destroyed me. The monster who left me in pieces over a decade ago.
I swore I'd never speak to him again, that I'd never set eyes on him again as long as I lived.
But I was wrong.
When life gets too much and you need to escape, the poison that might kill you becomes oh so tempting.

I craved his perverted ways, his smirk, his laughter as he pushed my body way past its limits.
I needed a release from the crazy. Just once.
Just one night. That’s what I told myself.
No strings, no illusions, no promises. Nothing but the lasting thrill of his flesh on mine.
The lasting hit of his poisonous touch.
But when poison runs through your veins, the way he runs through mine, it’s toxic and eats you alive.

This much passion always comes at a price...

Jade has increasingly little to say about herself as time goes on, other than the fact she is an author, but she’s plenty happy with this. Living in imaginary realities and having a legitimate excuse for it is really all she’s ever wanted.
Jade is as dirty as you’d expect from her novels, and talking smut makes her smile.
She lives in the Herefordshire countryside with a couple of hounds and a guy who’s able to cope with her inherent weirdness.
She has a red living room, decorated with far more zebra print than most people could bear, and fights a constant battle with her addiction to Coca-Cola.

BR with Lana. Thanks for getting me through this book. It was one of those where one just needs to rant.

I honestly don’t wanna spend more time than I already did on this book. There are so ways in which this has gone so so wrong.

Everyone is this book was just awful. I’m partial to the lead characters still (not that I like them, but I don’t hate them either), but the rest?! Their friends, their family (hello Lucas’s mother- who was absolutely unnecessary to the story), their wife/boyfriend.. everyone was a caricature. No depth whatsoever, no motivations to speak of, except to mess with the main characters life. Lana pointed out to me that there isn’t one female character painted in a normal/good light.

When I started reading this book, in the first few chapters the writing was quite good, poetic even - in a very existential crisis type of way, which I’m a fan of - but after that it all went downhill.

Throughout the book there was no actual growth for our main characters. Why is that such a problem? Because they badly needed it! They are so so messed up individually and are trying to what? Be good together? Lucas drinks 2/3 bottles of wine a night but it’s never addressed. So what then? Did Anna’s magical love cure him of alcoholism?

Anna is a the lest self sufficiency person I’ve read about in awhile. She whines and whines and then you guessed it.. whines some more about her lack of independence. Apparently everyone in her life tries to control her due to her illness and past tendencies to not make the best decisions. I mean yeah, all the people in her life are major, major assholes but she’s a weak, confused, scared, misguided adult and she makes the worst, nonsensical decisions ever. She’s in her thirties but still has to explain herself to everyone in her life as to why she’s not spending the night home. I wanted to shake her and and tell her to have some gumption.

Anyway, throughout the book we are told over and over and yeah over, that Lucas is the only one to not treat her like a child and lets her make her own decisions. Girl, if you need someone to let you do anything, then I don’t know, but I think you have a problem.

Also, Lucas and his freedom giving ways.. he is reckless if anything tbh. He pushed her to drink when she tells him that she can’t because she cant mix meds and alcohol. His response was along the lines of “I never knew you for someone to follow the rules” and at that point in their relationship he knew nothing about her illness, nothing about triggers or what effect alcohol might have but yeah, al least he’s giving her freedom eh?

Now Lucas, I don’t like him but I like him more than Anna and that says a lot. He’s.. as confused and pathetic as Anna in a way. Also controlled by everyone else in his life but at least from time to time he tells them to fuck off even if he doesn’t do anything to enforce those words.

Now my big, huge, gigantic problem with the guy was that-some spoilers ahead - he messed up years ago and supposedly cheated and got a girl pregnant. At the time him and Anna were like soulmates, deep in love and all that. She came home to find his bags packed and he tells her that he’s in love with someone else, laughs in her face and then leaves her there on the floor .. like she’s nothing (for her own good of course - so she’d hate him, looool, sure buddy great job). Then the other bitch apparently has a miscarriage but guess what? Lucas doesn’t leave her - although he doesn’t even remember sleeping with her (and he loves Anna more than life itself) instead he decides to marry her because “she’s so broken” over the miscarriage that she needs a rock on her finger to feel better.

See?! Makes total sense! NOT!

Lucas and Anna’s relationship was mostly about filthy sex and that’s about it. Emotional depth!? What’s that?

I just can’t explain the clusterfuck this book is. I only touched the surface with the examples I gave. But I’m about done exploring this mess cause it took enough of my time.

This is NOT a “ book about two people who are broken and flawed and find their way back to each other and heal one another in their eventual quest for peace and happiness”. Sounded beautiful huh? That’s what I thought I was getting! But NO. This book was full to the brim with every possible angst inducing device, trope and characters. It was awful.

Story of toxic love that flies high in search of an antidote, perfect state of bliss where you are accepted with all your flaws and loved unconditionally.
"It was poison. But sometimes the antidote comes from the strangest places."
Jade west is one author who is determined to push my boundaries and flip all my triggers switches like circuit breakers. There's NOTHING this lady won't write, so of course, there's EVERYTHING of hers that I shall read.

description

I have a suspicion she uses personal experiences in bdsm lifestyle in her books. She's unapologetic and bold in her endeavors, but her books are not just about mindblowing nasty, filthy sex, they carry bucketful of emotions too.
This is even more truer in This book of hers. Heart twisting emotions are ALL IN CAPS. The acute pain of heartbreak and then debilitating eventual breakup is the basic theme. Angst factor is touching the sky, both Lucas and Anna are aiming for The Impossible
He's wishing for her forgiveness
She's wishing to forget him
Alas! There's not enough pennies in the world to make that happen

description

They're both subjects of ridicule and disgust, called names and stamped by labels. It's like the entire universe is tugging them apart!!
Everything I do is a failure. Judged. Commented on. Scoffed at. It’s like my whole life is under a running commentary.
I fell so hard for this couple, rooting for a moment of peace and few lustful nights for them. Jade has written some truly No Holds Barred scenes, making them an ideal couple, whose bodies heat up and hearts align perfectly.

description

As usual she's isn't shy of experimenting everything in bed, in fact some moments that had me laughing-cringing a bit, but it showcased their co-dependent relationship, their bodies understand each other's language and respond with frenzied lust and hurried passions.
It was an entertaining read but more than that it elicited sympathy for the characters. Pace is fast and steady, jade is back with her indomitable spirit of writing to her own beat and as readers she makes us fall in love in the filthy, slutty way.

All Hail the Queen of filth that has given us a story that would make a harlot blush. Poison was exactly what I hoped it would be and I enjoyed every messy debauched minute of it.

Heart break can seriously fuck you about. But there is something life altering about your first love. It has a habit of lingering in the background even when you've moved on. And most never forget that person, good or bad. But how incredible would it be if you got another chance to get it right?

"He was toxic. Poisonous. The fatality of every scrap of my heart when he’d trashed it all to pieces without even looking back."

Yet even with these shattering memories, he was the first man Anna Blackwell knew that could give her what she needed in that moment, relief. Relief from another failed relationship, relief from her thoughts, relief from the sexual urges consuming her. One relapse to sort her.

Lucas Pierce has many regrets, made plenty of mistakes. But he's not about to miss the opportunity with the one girl that makes him burn and accepts his dirty. Even if she insists it's a one time thing. But if he could get Anna to hear him out, then maybe there could be a place for redemption.

"There was nothing unknown about this hook-up. I knew everything about the woman whose taste was still a pleasure on my tongue.
Every nook, every curve. Every want and fantasy and muffled little squeal. I knew her. All of her. Every fucking thing there was to know.
I was damn fucking well going to exploit it."

Both Anna and Lucas are two peas in a kinky pod. Between them, there is tons of baggage including hurt, remorse and judgement from friends and family. However with 10 years passed, each have grown and evolved as people. Now is the time to recognize what can be beyond the carnal and hardcore sexual encounters. And be sure that second chances do not get spicier then this.

MY REVIEW AND OTHERS: can also be found on my blog:
➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

'POISON:' Is a full length second chance erotica romance novel by Jade West. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

In true Jade West's signature style she brings us the heat with Poison, it is in your face, dirty, sexy, hot. She brings us a love story like no other, it's easy to get into, hard to put down. A rollercoaster of anguish and hurt that crept into my bones, the angst levels skyrocketed.

Many moons ago one drunken mistake created a domino effect on their relationship. Both left floundering in its wake. Anna Blackwell needed picking up from the filth she'd crumbled in and left floundering with a broken heart and Lucas Pierce was tied to a woman he did not love.

Seemingly they had both moved on, Anna had a new man in her life and seemed to be settling down. But no-one could live up to the one that got away.

Boredom and a stagnant relationship had Anna reaching out to her old flame, craving only what he could give her. The dirty, uninhibited sexcapades where they shredded all their inhibitions. Where they could be at their most dirtiest.

He was a monster in the bedroom, a monster of pure perverted brilliance.

His weakness was still dirty knickers, and my weakness was still...him.

What was only mean't to be a weekend of pure body numbing sex turned into so much more.

These two characters went at it 24/7 but in between their f#cking fests you got a true sense of who they were, so much in love, what people saw as a toxic relationship was anything but.

Genre: Erotic Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

For a decade Anna Blackwell had been living only half a life. She had enough of it and decided to make a single most important decision in her life. That decision led to her Lucas Pierce that not only opened up an old wound that never truly healed, but also a possibility of finding what she’s been missing in life.

This story was intense emotionally and sexually. I felt a tremendous amount of anger and pain for both Anna and Lucas for the situations they were thrown into. The storyline was a tad predictable, but I enjoyed it overall.

My hands were up and at him, fingers digging into his back, nails pinning. My knickers were stretched tight to the side, and it was anything but shame that burned inside.

I’ve missed the author’s signature (metaphorically and literally) filthy scenes and I gladly say I’m thoroughly sated. The couple was scorching together and there were even a handful of cringe-worthy scenes that wrapped it all nicely lol!

Fuck what he’d given my body, he’d poisoned my very fucking soul.

Poison is a story of fighting the odds. It would appeal to readers looking for a dirty and emotional second chance romance.

I'm late in reviewing, I made this and forgot about it. Buddy read this Jade Violet, who had so much sentiments and viewpoints on this book and those are relatable.

This is another writing style of second chance romance, which has a rollercoster of betrayal, anguish and forgiveness. Miscommunication and trickery has torn two people away, a shell of a living, indulging only to be agreeble to the circumstance they are forced into. Poison stayed strong to its title. The story was tragic and the characters were messy but this what happens in Poison as repercussions - backlash, until they find the antidote.

Jade West is a very determined author who brings out one basic theme and flourishs it with experiences from lifestyle, in this story's case she rubbed raw two peoples life and brought them back together with ultimate exaggerated style.

Anna Blackwell was breathing but not living. When she decides to reopen her past she was emotionally fuelled by indifference. After getting diagnosed by epilepsy and breaking up with the love of her life Anna was vulnerable, broken and lost. Now engaged her finance, Sebastian was another piece of work who manages to make her imperfect, doubtful and holds the weight of gratitude on her while dictating her life.

It's ten years after Lucas Piece is in no better condition than Anna. Lucas is hotness abandon. His drunked mistake a decade ago left both of them miserable. Lucas was dictated by his crazy involved mother. The women in his life hurts him but the only best part of his life was his daughter whom he loves unconditionally. Maya, his wife, uses their daughter to hold Lucas in her clasp since they separated and lived in different houses but are still married. Maya is the manipulative person who controlled and ruled others lives after destroying them. When Lucas and Anna start seeing each other after a decade she interferes and ruins that too.

Lucas are Anna were made for each other. The scorching emotional feeling to their bedroom fetishes was mindblowing. Lucas was always blamed for breaking Anna's heart and for not doing right with Maya. (pfft) Both their families and friends are my most hated people in this book. They were horrible and controlling and I think because of them Luka and Anna are half into a situation they are in.

This book goes a little beyond limits and expectations. It's second chance romance of two broken people who come back together after an abundance of opinions and repercussions.

Buddy read with Giorgia.

Well, the writing was actually quite good, it pulled me right in and I didn't want to get away from the book... And yet...

The toxicity of side characters was overwhelming. I don't know how anyone would remain sane in such a circle. EVERY SINGLE ONE of their friends and family was a bunch of shallow, egoistic and sadistic individuals.

This story had NOT ONE positive or non-toxic female character. Not one. (Except for maybe heroine's co-workers.)
- Even the way her closest friends changed at the end did not redeem them, the heroine would be much better off without such people in her life.

This book reminded me of those good old internalized misogyny examples, where a female author presented us with women to hate - without any explanation or background. Some of them were horrible humans just because, and others because they were delusional (or maybe mentally unhealthy). Plus they were absolutely one-dimensional with the only objective: to be mean to the main characters.

• • •

We met Anna, our heroine, as a shell of a woman, going through the motions and not actually tasting anything in her life. After kind of waking up one evening and realizing how joyless and empty her life has become, she decided to break out of it and find something worth living for. Couple of months later, the only thing she seemed to miss was a good orgasm. So she reached out to an ex-lover, who broke her 10 years ago.

From there on, the book exploded and became a mess.

Lucas, our hero, a confused and unhappy man, let his unstable and very unloving (to put it mildly) mother completely dictate his life. We learned his side of the story from 10 years ago and the book took even a more drastic dive into madness after that.
Because of their past, this new relationship gave out a very distinct Romeo-and-Juliet-vibe. Sprinkled with hatred and toxicity from side characters, it became a trainwreck of sadness and drama porn.
- I could've lived with all of that, honestly, if only we could've had any character development in it!!

I wanted to see the heroine RISE, become a self-sufficient and an independent thinking woman! Yet all we got was a couple of months of teenage-like rebellion, followed by sliding back into her old sad self - up until something horrible slapped her out of it.

I did not hate the main characters, they were pictured as two lost people who became victims of toxicity and horrors of seemingly normal people around them, so I was glad they found their way to each other. As for their kink... Well damn, let me just tell you, I've never had such an urge to wash my mouth and take a shower as after reading this, lol. Yet I did not really feel the chemistry there.... It was well written, but I still didn't feel it. It's probably just me.

• • •

Right at the beginning, Giorgia mentioned she felt manipulated, reading it, and I guess it's the best way to put it. The drama and horribleness felt indeed quite manipulative, we were made feeling certain things with no explanation, and I felt cheated because of it.

I'm still looking forward to other books by the author, I've got a couple of them on my list, so I'll stay optimistic.

Ten years ago, Anna Blackwell moved on with her life after a devastating break-up with Lucas Pierce. But as Anna presently reflects on what she has, it becomes clear that it is passionless and restrictive. Despite what everyone thinks is best for her, Anna contacts Lucas out of the blue. Caught in a difficult spot himself, Anna’s ping brings past memories to the surface. Throwing caution to the wind, Anna and Lucas reignite their connection.

“Just one splurge. One solitary fuck fest to set my senses free and wild. One tiny scrap of fun to relive me from the years of need and boredom, and hopefully give me a hint of myself again.”

Told in dual POV, the landscape is set with Anna and Lucas living different lives, yet they both have been forced to tamper down their emotions and self-confidence. Anna knows her heart is at risk, but feeling alive again is what she seeks. Sure enough, the spark still exists between Lucas and Anna and he doesn’t treat her like a fragile object.

“I pulled that dirty white lace tight between her lips, and her tongue came out to meet it. I told her to suck on that filthy lace and she sucked on it with the most adorable lust in her eyes. She had me.”

What I always enjoy about a Jade West book is the rawness of her main characters. With Anna and Lucas, they have flaws and fears, but they aren’t afraid to be accountable or to each other. This also carries into how they share their kinky proclivities without any shame. Lucas cares for Anna how she is – the whole package – and I admired that about him. For Anna, she is willing to self-sacrifice for others, and while sometimes it’s to her detriment, it makes her stronger.

Of course, I must mention the level of filthy goodness is at a high on the Jade-o-meter. As such, I’ll always look at lace a bit differently. 😉

Poison is a second-chance erotic romance steeped in emotion. This book would appeal to those looking for kinky times with a substantive plot.

A new Jade West book! Each time this author releases a new story, I'm excited to find out what she has concocted for our enjoyment.

When I think about Poison, the word that pops into my mind is filthy. OMG, was it filthy, and dirty, and so good!

If you are familiar with Mrs Jade's work, you know that she has a way to spicy up her characters' relationship. And boy, did she!

"The guy was a monster in the bedroom, a monster of pure perverted brilliance."

Anna and Lucas broke up ten years ago. The alternated points of views and the past/present chapters built the anticipation and the mystery surrounding their history. I couldn't wait to find out what happened to them.

"The man who’d broken my heart into a thousand pieces and left me clutching at the shards."

The peer pressure, the errors, the miscommunication were very present all along the story, adding to the feeling of being trapped and the weight of expectations.

I felt for the Anna and Lucas. They are torn between was they want, and the toxic relationships they find themselves caught into. Betrayal, forgiveness, sweet moments and gritty scenes made of Poison a very agreeable experience.

If you are in the mood for a good second chance romance, with enthralling characters, that is definitely the read you are looking for.

"It was poison. But sometimes the antidote comes from the strangest places. Maybe, just maybe, I was staring at mine.

...’It was the flash of memory that flared up from the depths of me. The flash of the only time in my life I’d ever felt like that about someone else’s flesh. Someone else’s mouth. Someone else’s hands, and words, and cock. I’d only ever kissed one man like that. I’d only ever wanted one man like that. Needed one man like that. Craved one man like that.’...

Delicious book. This story is so refreshing!!!!!
It’s worth the reading!

Holy shit, there are some hella triggers here, be kind to yourself before reading

Needed some time away from this before writing the review 💛 There will be spoilers, but I feel these are needed for some people. I wish I knew them.

So I started out loving this, I thought I would rate it 4/5 stars easily. Then when the big confrontation/miscommunication was revealed I was expecting the book to be ending soon, because it was pretty dramatic, and felt like it was ending...but no. That was at 48% and the rest just...went bad, real quick.

What I loved- recognizing an abusive relationship. Normalizing online dating (even if it was brief). Speaking truths. Disability representation. The kinky sex.

Now on to everything else: It's a good thing Lucas and Anna had a past relationship, because there was almost no relationship development here besides a sexual one. You had to rely on the author telling us they knew and loved each other from a decade ago.

I understand Anna was in an emotionally and mentally abusive relationship, what I didn't understand was why she couldn't have any kind of conversation with anyone else? She said maybe 2 words to people for half the story. Like...just TALK to your friends, your parents. It doesn't even have to be about Seb (the abuser). I think that's why I hated literally EVERYONE besides Anna and Lucas this whole book. The "friends" would spout off all this shit and Anna and the reader would know it's shit, but she isn't correcting them? The things Vicky and Nicola say sound an awfully lot like things Seb would. Sure sounded like they wanted to control everything about Anna too. Then her parents inviting her ex and pushing him onto her all the time? You don't have to put up with it, girl, even if they're you're parents. Idk, none of this jived for a 34 year old.

Woah for the on page r*pe. Where the fuck did that come from? I was already having trouble finishing it for other reasons that I will get to in a minute. I definitely need to read light-hearted books for a while so I can avoid triggering myself worse than this did. This was almost solely for shock value? Or a plot point? Idk? It wasn't needed at all. But there's always gotta be that confrontation with the ex.🙄 What frustrated me the most after that was the very next day she had sex with Lucas. I can't speak for everyone, but that is so ridiculously unlikely. I feel like that's such a slap in the face, all she needed was her love, Lucas, to "make her forget" and she was good to go, like it didn't even happen. Then the way it was handled was disappointing and hurtful. Like it was absurd even going to the police, because “he-said, she-said”, and Seb ain't gonna be charged (which is actually realistic to real life), but it felt like another brush off to continue on with the story towards a HEA.

Now...I was sick and enraged for most of this book because what clearly happened to Lucas was r*pe. Yes he's a man, yes it happens to men. So why the FUCK did no one see or question that? They just labeled him as a "cunt" for hurting Anna and moved on. He was so black-out drunk he couldn't walk, couldn't speak right, could barely function. Yet when this info came to light, not one person questioned Maya and WHY SHE "SLEPT" WITH HIM WHEN HE WAS LIKE THAT?! Then we find out others saw him like this, and said it wasn't really his fault that night for the things that happened, but for 10 years they kept quiet about it, and didn't see anything wrong with that? The characters were only upset with Maya for lying about the pregnancy test/miscarriage, which is still horrific, but what stopped them from exposing her lies 10 years earlier? Leads me to believe everyone and literally their mom were complete scum in this book. Yo, I'm so upset, I feel hurt on behalf of this fictional man because I just know there are Lucas' out here irl who were in a similar boat.

I'm drained writing this, but felt it was also important to note, it was disgusting reading about a mom (the r*pist) who continually put her child in the middle of all her drama with her kids’ dad all because she was hurt and pissed at him. Or she’d refuse to let her kid see her dad and vice versa. The only likeable female character was the main one, and even then, eh, that's questionable.

This was angst on top of angst on top of angst, but almost all of it was unoriginal and predictable. I saw it coming the moment it was foreshadowed. I can't believe I could feel so strongly in the first half and have my opinion of it turn sharply 180 degrees. I'm disappointed, sad, and kinda don't wanna read anymore from Jade West. Sorry for this jumbled, emotional essay. Had to get it off my chest.

Hey, it’s Anna. Long time no speak. Was just wondering how you’re doing.

This is a second-chance romance by one of my favorite authors, Jade West. It’s probably important that I explain something before I go any further: I am much pickier when it comes to my favorite authors. Bait and One Too Many aren’t just two of my favorite Jade West books, they’re two of my favorite books in this entire genre. In other words, the bar is high. Is that fair? Maybe not, but that’s the way my brain works. Expectations are everything. Still, just keep that in mind, and be aware that comparatively, when it comes to my other ratings, this book is probably closer to five stars.

Flesh never forgets, and ours sure remembered every fucking thing we’d ever done.

The story is told is alternative POV, with a couple chapters from the past but almost all from the present. Anna and Lucas have been apart for ten years. We find out early that this is because of something Lucas did, which left Anna broken. They both moved on but by the time the story begins, they’re both single again. This is when Anna decides to randomly reach out to Lucas one morning. I really enjoyed the simplicity of this; their reunion wasn’t caused by fate, it was because of a text message. How many of us can relate to that?! Anyways, Anna maintains she just wants a one-off hook-up, and believe me, he gives that to her. These two are filthy in the bedroom. Lucas has a very specific fetish and even though I cringed a few times, they were scalding hot together. I could totally see why they were such a good match. It’s not often you find someone that tolerates your weird fetishes, let alone *enjoys* them. But then why did they throw it all away? Well, this was another relatable part of the book that I was grateful for: Lucas made a mistake. It wasn’t as bad of a mistake as Anna was initially led to believe, but still- it was his to own, and he DID own it. For a second I thought the author was going to absolve him completely, and while the door was left open for that to be the case, she left it alone because it really didn’t matter. His actions started the chain of events and he made more mistakes in the aftermath. Thankfully, he never lost sight of that. In the romance genre as a whole, I feel like authors tend to make every love story a fairy tale. And don’t get me wrong, I love those stories sometimes too, especially lately. But the reason I read dark romance is to get something REAL and RAW. This book had that in spades; both MCs paid for Lucas’ mistake and then some. It was hard to hold his actions against him; in my opinion, he was punished beyond what he deserved for the mistakes he made, and his grovel reflected that.

And then I kissed her. I kissed her and she kissed me right back and our doom was fucking sealed.

While I liked them both, Lucas and Anna definitely had their flaws. Anna was just a touch too helpless. Now, this wasn’t all her fault. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say that she was very influenced by somebody else, and not in a positive way. But I wanted her to grow a backbone at times and tell her friends and parents to mind their own fucking business. Okay, they hated Lucas for what went down ten years ago. They’re entitled to that. But it was her life to live, not theirs. As for Lucas, he was great when they were banging, but otherwise he was just kind of a sad sack. Like, take control of your life, bro. At first, I had some trouble respecting him, probably because nobody else did. But over time, he grew stronger, probably because Anna reminded him of the person he used to be. I loved the way he treated Anna in the last quarter of the book. Yes he cared for her, but he gave her agency as well, and she badly needed that. So, all in all, while I didn’t love them at first, both became the best versions of themselves.

It was toxic. Painful. Blunt and savage. It was poison. But sometimes the antidote comes from the strangest places. Maybe, just maybe, I was staring at mine.

So, why not 5 stars?? Well, a few reasons, but they’re all my opinions that may not bother others. First of all, it definitely had way more angst than any other Jade book I’ve read. And that wouldn’t have been a huge deal if she didn’t beat us over the head with it. Like, I got it; Lucas hurt you, Anna. But she really blamed him for everything bad in her life over the last ten years and that wasn’t entirely fair. Maybe, if she fell apart that badly after losing him, she was too dependent on him in the first place. Secondly, the angst included some plot devices that I didn’t love. As mentioned above, things didn’t turn out as predictable as I originally thought, and I was very relieved for that. Finally-and I also mentioned this above- Anna’s family and friends, as well as Lucas’ mother, drove me fucking crazy. These people were just way too invested in someone else’s life. I would have NEVER let them influence me like that, and it made me lose respect for both MCs. Like, you’re grown. Just tell them you love them and respect their opinion but it’s your life, so you’ll decide what is best for you. It really bothered me how it was like “welp, we can’t be together because my friends don’t like you.” THEN GET NEW FRIENDS!!! (Sorry, I was really annoyed by this, which took away my enjoyment of the story. Hence the four stars instead of five.)

”This is going to be a disaster,” she said. “People will never let me do this. Not in a million years.”
“People can fuck right off, I’m done with trying to please them,” I said, and kissed her hard.

So, anyways, this is a very meaningful read. It’s also vintage Jade West filth, which makes the story special; rarely do you have such perverted sexy times wrapped up in a relatable, thoughtful story. So yes, it could’ve easily been five stars, but the angst was a bit too frustrating and predictable. There was also a LOT of it. Maybe I needed to see more of the happy times of Anna and Lucas, either in the past or present. On a similar note, I wanted more from the epilogue. But I guess life isn’t always wrapped up in a bow like that, and I can appreciate that.

I’d always loved every little scrap of her soul with every scrap of mine, I’d just been too much of a prick to ever deserve her.

You can’t ever change the past, no matter how much you want to, so why give it any more of your future than you have to?

‘My heart was a static flatline, even though I told myself it wasn’t. I’d forgotten who I was, fading into myself for so long that I didn’t recognise my own soul anymore.’

Poison by Jade West is now our favourite book by this author. It was absolutely compelling with a great storyline, we just could not put it down. And in true Jade West style, it was oh so filthy. So very filthy we cringed at times, but only in that funny and somewhat OMG way that we love, because whilst it may be a bit eww in parts, it’s also very very hot! We have to say, that when Jade West characters love, they love without abandon and their sex lives literally knows no boundaries or limits, rather they let the moment dictate the filth. When you love, you love absolutely everything about the other person and nothing is seen as taboo! Poison is a highly emotional and raw second chance romance which is fuelled by lies and repercussions. It was messy, it was ugly, it was tragic and it was incredibly intense. Two broken souls and hearts who reconnect with a ping from a text message, opening a can of worms whilst revisiting a ferocious passion and love affair.

‘The thrill of knowing something was coming. Something that set your very soul alight with the need. The want. The craving. The fire and the burn and the crazy pull of flesh on flesh. Oh hell yes, I knew it.’

Anna is living in an emotionless state with her fiancée, Sebastian. Where her life used to be full of colour and passion, it’s now the exact opposite, coupled with a medical diagnosis which restricts her confidence. However, she also holds the weight of a heavy gratitude on her shoulders, which dictates her life. Succumbing to complete controlling manipulation. That is until one evening when she’s reminded of just what passion and need looks like. What feeling wanted truly feels like. Anna makes a life changing decision, damn any consequential regrets. We really loved Anna, she was sweet, sassy, strong yet so vulnerable. Her mates were awful to her but she stood her ground and we’re so happy she did! Her broken heart be damned.

‘The guy was a monster in the bedroom, a monster of pure perverted brilliance. Just a shame he’d been so much of a monster outside of it.’ ‘And there he was. The man who’d broken my heart into a thousand pieces and left me clutching at the shards.’ ‘He was toxic. Poisonous. The fatality of every scrap of my heart when he’d trashed it all to pieces without even looking back. The man who consumed me, promised me the stars, then destroyed me and left me a betrayed mush on the floor, sobbing my guts up and retching myself to sleep at night.’

Lucas Pierce is hot. He’s filth. He’s masterful and he’s such a top bloke! He feels like shit, like his life is not his own. He was and still is in love with a cracking girl who he can’t be with, because of one stupid drunken mistake. The other women in his life are controlling, manipulative and quite frankly complete bitches, we wanted to punch them! Except for his sweet darling daughter, the only good thing in his very messy life. Lucas has a good heart underneath the arrogance and the ‘I hate everything and everyone’ attitude, and we truly felt for him. He blames himself for everything that’s shit in his life and often calls himself out. But, he also loves without abandon and carries that mantra into the bedroom or wherever takes his fancy. Lucas is actually quite magnificent in our eyes and we completely agree with Anna, there really is no man quite like him, for her. Seriously…he really is quite something!

‘Fire. Spark. Passion. Us. I knew I was her poison. I knew I was the toxic need that drove her crazy, just as crazy as my need for her drove me. Only mine had no hate chained along with it.’ ‘I needed her to hate me and carry on living her life, and curse my name whenever she thought of me. I needed her to run away from me and never even try to reach out and ask me why.’

So yeah, we bloody loved this book. The storyline was honest, addictive, heart-breaking and somewhat dark. What we also loved about Poison was that the filthy scenes with their scorching sexual chemistry felt natural in their placement and that the story held its own brilliantly, ensuring a flawless and natural development. The intensity of emotions is superbly written with an emphasis on love, forgiveness and second chances. The pushing of boundaries, eye-opening, the freezer time in abundance! This is erotic romance at its very best from Jade West!

‘He was rough. Fierce. Craving for more of me just as I was craving for him. And he was absolutely fucking incredible.’

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG: ABSTRACT BOOKS

'Poison' is a dirty gritty dark Romance Standalone , by the best selling author Jade West. Told in dual perspectives , this book was one wild ride for me!!

In typical Jade West fashion , this author came swooping in and left me as a mess of want and angst with her amazing writing style. Anna and Lucas's story was raw and painful in all the wonderful ways and had me yearning for more. I didn't want to let go of these characters!!

Anna and Lucas peirce were a force to be reckoned with. Both were explosive! That is until everything went bad. Anna was left nursing a broken heart in their wake and Lucas was stuck with a woman he did not want. Seemingly , both of them had now moved on. But it was only for so long that they could stay away from each other and not crave Thier wild fantasies.

Things were going fine , until Anna's life got uprooted again. In one moment of weakness she found herself near her toxic ex , asking for a night with passion and to forget her shit storm of a life. What she didn't know was that , this time Lucas Peirce was not letting her go.

This book was one of the best books that I have read this year and I would definitely recommend this one to everyone who would love a dark gritty Second chance romance!! This author does not hold back and will have you yearning for so much more even after you turn the last page of her book!!!!

Obviously in the minority, but I had issues with this book. First off, there's definitely someone out there for everyone and Lucas and Anna were definitely perfect for each other with their kink and more power to them
My main issue was that every character in this book EXCEPT Lucas and Anna were complete asshats! Anna's friends were jerks and Lucas's mom was a jerk as well (don't even get me started on Maya) Lucas and Anna annoyed the crap out of me - communication is key, that's all I'm saying . I gave this 2 stars because at least it invoked major feelings in me...just not the ones I was hoping for. This was a very frustrating read for me on many levels.

5 filthy 🌟
There was so much 'filth' in this book, there's no way my review is going to be clean!
What a book! I absolutely loved it 😍

Poison wasn't my first book by Jade West and therefore I knew what I was getting into when I picked it up but my god! Did she deliver!

It was totally smashing!

This is a story of a woman,Anna Blackwell who is very unsatisfied with the state of her life in the present. Diagnosed with Epilepsy, she's treated like a 'China Doll' by everyone around her. (Her words, not mine). She is tired of pretending to be happy with a supposedly perfect fiancè and wishes to feel something real for once in her life.

Impulsively, she texts her ex-boyfriendLucas Pierce to 'see how he's doing' ahem... ahem...

Flashback- He and Anna had a bad breakup and that's putting it mildly. It was quite messy and left her fucked up for a decade and she's still recovering.

Back to the present - They meet up for one night of fun and somehow ended up igniting the past passion only to discover that getting back together isn't that easy.
There's a woman with fucked up brain, her fierce best friend who'd rather have him decapitated, his cunning bitch of a wife and.... a little girl.

Do they make it to the end? Of course they do! But their journey was what stole my heart. I enjoyed it immensely :-D

I am a little torn with this book.
There are parts that I enjoyed and others that I really didn’t enjoy.
I loved Call Me Daddy and I enjoyed Daddy’s Dirty Boss, so I knew going in that Jade West was a dirty girl, lol, much like myself.

And you know me, I love the dirty shit.
Sometimes you just need a book with pure filth in it, right?

But with Poison, I felt that some of the filthy scenes didn’t add anything to the story. In fact, I’d say they took away from the story.
It felt like they were a bit over the top and possibly there just for the shock value maybe.

Now, I’ll admit that part of this could be due to one of my personal phobias.
I have a ‘thing’ about other people’s saliva.
Yes, I’m weird and difficult.
Yes, I’m one of those people that hate hearing people eat or slurp drinks, even as I type this I’m shuddering with the thought.

However, I’m going to contradict my self a little here (told you I was difficult) when you’re lost in the moment and wrapped up in the passion there are things that just don’t matter to you at that point in time...but when you’re just reading about it and not experiencing it...yeah, it makes me feel a little...icky.
Ok, here are the scenes that had me gagging a bit, lol.

He dribbled and drooled and spat all over me. He rubbed his dirty wet spit all over my skin and teased my nipples with the very tip of his tongue when he wasn’t hurting me.

I tasted myself on his tongue, but that wasn’t enough for him. He hooked his fingers in my cheeks and stretched them wide, and I knew what was coming. I was whimpering ready before he even did it. He spat into my mouth, my own pussy juice undeniable, then plunged his fingers in so deep I retched. “Suck,” he said, and I did. I sucked his fingers while he licked my face, and I was already straining up at him, my clit already desperate for more.

SEX SCENES
The scenes got hot and passionate throughout the book and these two characters were explosive together.

I could hear the squelching, and hear his breaths, and once again I knew what was coming. He thrust inside deeper and twisted his hand. “Let’s make these nice and wet,” he barked, and I gasped out a yes, wanting it too. It was his pinkie finger that pushed its way into my ass first. I gripped the bed sheets under me on the in and out, still feeling the tightness of my thong tugged to the side. The second finger was a nice stretch. I clenched and moaned, clit still fluttering, but he didn’t let up, working them back and forth like the same fucking professional he’d always been. “Spread those legs for me,” he said, and I did. I raised them wider and used them to lift my butt from the bed, just like he wanted me to and before he said it. “Good girl,” he grunted, and it made me burn up even brighter. I whimpered at his depth as he pushed those fingers deep, but I could take it. That animal instinct took over and I was moving with him, seeking out more. “I’m going to fuck your dirty ass,” he told me. “If I wasn’t so totally consumed by that sweet little cunt of yours yesterday, I’d have claimed it already.” “Fuck me then,” I replied, but he didn’t. He kept on with those fingers and used his thumb on my clit, even though it was still crying out from earlier. “Slick and swollen, just how I like it,” he told me. I could imagine the puffiness. Imagine the dribble of my pussy as he drove me crazy. “I’m still shaky from coming,” I said, and he laughed. “You’ll be a whole load more shaky when I’m done with you.”

Final Thoughts on POISON by Jade West

Other than the overdone sex scenes, the story wasn’t too bad.
I liked the characters and it got pretty hot and dirty in there but as much as I’ve liked Ms West’s other books, this one just wasn’t as high up there for me.

3 Stars

Memorable moments:

"...sopping knickers..."

"Let’s get on with making the most of this one day fuckathon,” he said, and downed the rest of his wine.

😶

He watches her pee. Which is... hawt.

Lucas also doesn't know the meaning of no. The main character repeatedly tells him to take her home and he just keeps stalling and making it seem like he knows she doesn't want to go. It made me feel icky. This whole book just kind of made me feel gross. He also spams her phone with messages like a fucking stalker. Sometimes... I think in a different POV this might have been a different feeling on my end. But the way that the main character was reacting to his advances pushed me into the this guys a creep and doesn't understand boundaries zone.

Didn't like so many parts of it:
The crazy ex wife using the kid to get her way
The friends...
The MC's being treated like teenagers when they are 35/40
The H being a fucking coward 10years ago...
So much fucking drama....

I was so very excited about this book. It sounded like it would be right up my alley. And it was, mostly.
I always love Jade's heroes. Her men are swoon worthy because she makes them so vivid and human and perfect in their imperfections. Same goes for her heroines!! Poison was not my favorite from Jade mainly because I usually love her heroes and storylines more. Don't get me wrong. This was spicy, emotional and dirty. So dirty. It's our classic Jade West book but this time I wasn't a big fan of the plot and how our heroine handled certain situations. I wanted to see more of Lucas and his daughter and the whole plot twist didn't surprise me. I was expecting a bit more.
I am usually not a big fan of second chance romance but I really loved the first half of the book. Lucas and Anna make one hot pair. I am not usually one to get flustered in books because I have read everything there is to read but this one. Omg. Read it if you dare. Still, I enjoyed this wild ride! I appreciate the author's work as this is one of her more personal novels. If you love Jade and her spice, read this!

Cheating H & doormat h 2nd chance story.
- ppl said it has dirty sex with pee and poop, and he spits in her mouth. 🤮

Past history.
He cheated on the h while she was away for 3 whole weeks.
The ow H cheated with got preg, then had a miscarriage, and he still married her and got her preg again.
He’s now a single father with a daughter.

10 years later the h is the one who reached out to the cheater for a ONS. He never went after her after the cheating.
Awesome romance novel.
🙄

( a reviewer said the H was blind drunk, he couldn’t say no, so he was raped by the ow. 🙄
I fell for a review like this one time, and read a cheating book based on that stupid review, so I caution Safety readers, some ppl just want to find excuses for a cheater.

Oh and that other cheating book I read thinking the H was raped because of the delusional reviewer;
- he went to a party, drank too much. There were hot girls and he was too drunk to say no, so he ended up having sex with the same girl all night. Multiple times.
See, he was totally raped, and it’s the evil ow’s fault for taking advantage of him when he was so drunk. 🙄)

It's been two days and I'm still speechless. I can't find words to describe how much this book hit me in all the right places. Anna has stolen my heart, and Lucas has claimed my body. Wow, these two are everything and more, and I want so much more.

West takes us on a slightly sordid journey with her sensually, naughty, slightly taboo kink and I am so here for it. Poison was certainly a cure for my book funk! If you don't mind a few naughty taboos that would melt your Kindle, then grab this now!

Umm... definitely not what I was expecting. I guess Jade West’s books are either a big hit or a huge miss for me.

This one was definitely a miss.

I did NOT like Lucas after I found out what he fucking did. I was definitely expecting that but I didn’t want to believe it until I read it. I spent half the book wanting to now wtf he did and at 50% boy did I find out. The piece of shit got so drunk while His girlfriend he “loved so much,” Anna, was away at a retreat for 3 weeks... that he ended up sleeping with another girl, Maya, during the first fucking week Anna was gone. Then apparently Maya was pregnant so Lucas decided he had to man up and be with Maya, but really lie to Anna and tell her it’s been going on for months and he didn’t love Anna, he probably never really did. And he loved Maya. He laughed at Anna and left, then she had a fucking seizure. But as he’s retelling this story, he’s telling Anna it was the only way because he knew she’d forgive him and he couldn’t deal with that or some shit. Bull fucking shit excuse. He’s a bastard.

No way in hell should Anna have forgiven him. If they were so in love then he never should’ve put himself in that position in the first place. The book made it a total cop out that Maya lies about being pregnant and Lucas wondered if he even had sex with her because he was so trashed that night that he blacked out. No excuse, none of that is justifiable. Even so, he left Anna in the state she was in because he was selfish. That’s all that it was - him being selfish that he couldn’t handle telling her the truth. And honestly, he could’ve been there for a kid without being with the mother. What kinda dumb shit is that.

I didn’t like any one of these fucking characters. Not Anna, not Lucas, not Sebastian, and not a single one of Anna’s poor excuse for friends.

The underwear shit was gross and definitely not my thing. Licking and sucking pee off of someone’s underwear is pretty fucking dirty, but I also cringed at the whole putting fingers in your mouth after it’s been in someone’s asshole too. Not my thing.

2.5⭐️ because the writing was still okay and I liked both Anna and Lucas’ POVs even if I didn’t like them as people.
I could’ve still enjoyed this book if not for the cheating. I can handle the other stuff, but that’s just a big no no for me. Sorry.
