An Agent for Marianne

Rate this book

A beloved secretary, the Pinkerton detective she’s been secretly in love with; the event that will force them to confront their feelings for each other.

Marianne Chapman has been in love with her broody boss for years. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to return her feelings. Determined to squash her infatuation, she leaves Denver, CO for the Pinkerton home office, convinced time and distance will cure her of her traitorous feelings towards Denver's lead agent.

Archibald Gordon doesn’t know how to deal with the desire he has for his fiery redheaded assistant. He has always treated their relationship strictly professional, regardless of how she consumes his every thought. When Marianne suddenly leaves to help the Female Detective Bureau, Archie has to admit that he can’t survive without her. When Archie’s best friend is kidnapped, he asks her to help him solve the case.

Will Marianne help Archie solve the one case that is too close for comfort? When a disaster threatens, will Archie be able to overcome his reservations and convince Marianne to give them a chance?

Marianne finally gets her agent

Rating: 4.5 stars

My thoughts about this book:

*I enjoyed finding out what happened to Marianne when she left Denver.

*I liked that this story included historical details about Denver's early justice system (not really a system)

*I thought including Chicago history into this story created a great backdrop for this story.

*Marianne and Archie were very interesting characters.

*There was intrigue in this story that gave the plot some twists and turns.

*I've really enjoyed reading the Pinkerton Matchmaker series and will be reading more of them.

Loved this book! The plot, the characters and yes the twists and turns. This Author really knows how to grab your attention and keep it! Marianne and Archie have worked together a long time and she knows just where her heart is... But does he? Will he ever come around to see what is right under his nose? Will Marianne leaving bring him to his senses? Apparently not... at least not right away! What will it take for these two to finally get their lives on the right track? I loved their story and I know you will too.

Really Archie?!!

The man is sooooo infuriating...I could happily shoot him myself! We have been waiting so long for this book....for 48 books....we have been watching them dance around each other, and I was stunned when Archie let Marianne go to Chicago. He can be such a stubborn fool! It's a good thing Marianne is more stubborn and definitely more wily. It was everything we expected and great addition to the series. It was also nice to catch up with previous couples too. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Sweet Historical Romance

Took them long enough!! What a stubborn, stubborn man! Of course he held on to two self made rules, "trust that a woman means what she actually says" and "no workplace romance"! Poor "Irish", I hope he gets his own story soon! I like the case that was solved! Lots of work went into writing that storyline!

finally

I finally got to read about Marianne & how she got Archie to say he loved her! This book had so many twists and turns that it kept me guessing! I love how the Greta Chicago fire was woven into the story, & how both of the main characters learn and grow throughout the story! This is a clean romance.

After reading The Pinkerton Matchmaker, I was most anxious to read if Marianne & Archie got together. So enjoyed this story so very much. It was fun to see how they did finally get together & what happened to make that happen. Ms. Sterling has done a superb job writing this book.

Marianne

Will Marianne finally get her man?? She has loved Archie for years but he has never shown her how he feels for her. Some unexpected conflicts arise that only the Pinkerton’s can handle.

Archie finally made his move! But thank goodness for a strong woman who wouldn't settle for second best and who dared to share her feelings with her agent of choice. And after Marianne put it all out there, did Archie ever lay a whopper of a kiss on Marianne. Why, it even curled my toes!

After working together for eight years and everyone seeing that they are suppose to be together Marianne can’t stand it any more...and left. Will Archie finally see what he has lost and go after her?
Yes finally the story that we’ve all waited for, and it is a great one. This is an amazing series and I can’t wait to read the next ones.

Update: I enjoyed it much more during a second read. I think because I short of knew what to expect.

Finally the story we've all been waiting for since the very beginning!
Right from the initial Pinkerton Matchmaker book, we all knew Marianne and Archie had feelings for each other but could they ever admit them and get together?
So happy to see them get their own story. I was expecting something a bit different - a setting more similar to the rest of the books in the series - but it still worked. I realize that since their story has been woven through all the other books, it needed a different way of telling, in order to draw it all together. I just wasn't thrilled with their continued lack of communicating their feelings and so the story dragged on a bit. It sort of felt like so much set up that the romance and mystery was almost thrown in at the end. To be honest, I think I enjoyed reading about Marianne's twin, Penelope (#38), more..but maybe that's just me...
But definitely worth reading. And so thankful to see Marianne and Archie happy.
A clean, sweet romance. I can't imagine reading any books in this series and not including this one.

(3.5 stars) - Marianne & Archie together at last

I'm relatively new to this series so while there are clearly a lot of characters from previous stories, I didn't know most of them. The story works as a standalone, but I suspect that it would have had more depth if I had been a little deeper into the series.

It's a good story and the relationship development is believable, though the jumps in the timeline and storyline were a bit confusing in the beginning.

The portion where the mystery is solved becomes pure narrative "telling", for some reason, which created emotional distance from the potential excitement and suspense.

It was fun to see Archie finally own up to his feelings for Marianne. I thought we were going to have to wait till the end of the series for it. I'm looking forward to seeing them together in the successive books.

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses

One to relish

Those who have read this series from the beginning have long awaited this story. Each of the preceding books has given readers a glimpse of Marianne and Archie. Their banter and bravado has shown in each story, so naturally their story in totally encompassing of both the Chicago and Denver offices with a dual plotline that will keep readers turning the pages. Their love story spans a number of years and it's been worth the wait.

Marianne's story - finally

I have been excitedly waiting for Marianne and Archie's story, and I wasn't disappointed. You can read this as a stand alone, but it will mean so much more if you have read the other books in the series...because, since the very first book of the Pinkerton Matchmaker Series we've seen Marianne interact with the agents and Archie and watched their characters grow and develop.

Ive been waiting for this book for 13 months and I wasn’t disappointed. Interesting plot involving characters we mostly knew already in unexpected ways. And of course Archie and Marianne at the centre of it. I really enjoyed this book and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy! 💕
