“One of America’s top writers of modern sea adventures.” Clive Cussler,  New York Times  Bestselling Author

Gabe Jones is not like most underwater criminal investigators―he talks to the dead and the dead talk back.  In this crime-thrilling suspense novel, Gabe dives into a watery world of crime and corruption as a paranormal experience helps him uncover the grisly truth of his partner’s death. After losing his trooper partner Charlie in a recovery dive, Gabe Jones is not prepared for what he discovers when he attempts to investigate the scene of Charlie’s death. In the mirky waters of the Florida panhandle, Gabe questions his partner’s departed spirit and uncovers an underwater graveyard, along with a dire warning that more deaths are coming if he doesn’t stop the killer. In a race against time, the underwater spirits lead him to the incriminating evidence he needs to expose the killer. But when his investigation is discovered, he puts Charlie’s family at risk. Will he have what it takes to outwit his adversaries, save Charlie’s daughter, and expose the killer, all while navigating the tumultuous waves of relationships he finds himself in above water?

Welcome, thanks for dropping into my author page.

Here's a short biography: Now retired, I was an oil field diver, trained in traditional MK-5 Navy dive gear. I specialized in explosives work, mostly with shaped charges, for ten years doing salvage of oil platforms, bridges and ships. I also served as a dive safety officer for NASA, and on academic, archaeological and scientific projects internationally. I completed my dive career as a PADI Course Director and Regional Manager.

I've written three novels, two of which were published in the nineties and are still available. With time to begin writing again, Ghost River, a story about a police diver who uses information he gets from interviewing ghosts to solve crimes, is nearly ready for publication. As we get closer I'll post updates on publication on this site. For those of you who enjoyed the Doc Holiday stories, you're in for a fun ride with Gabriel Jones and his mis-adventures in Ghost River.

Clearly I am missing something here as other people obviously really enjoyed this book. I think the issue for me was that I never really bought into the whole ghost aspect..it seemed thrown in at the beginning without sufficient explanation or justification. It wasnt a problem with the supernatural..john Connolly's books are absolutely excellent in this regard, it just didn't seem to work here. I also found the main characters hard to like and the plot was utterly preposterous. Sorry, not for me.

Jon Coon's experience as a dive safety instructor for NASA as well as a former oil field commercial diver specialized in explosives enables him to spin a tale of intrigue as his main character, Trooper Gabe Jones, explores the secrets of both the river and the dead.
Gabe Jones is a man of integrity and conviction who, as an underwater criminal investigator, is faced with the death of a best friend and partner. The story reveals a list of characters from a grieving widow with children, to a politically powerful and corrupt family, along with a voodoo matriarch--all woven into an intriguing underwater adventure of science, family and faith.
Although Jones’s past and his adversaries are as dark as the river, the story sheds light on love, loyalty and friendship, leading to a satisfying tale of justice and triumph.

Carried this book with me on all travels - read it slowly (for me)
I really liked it - it involves a field I admire, characters I can identify with, acknowledgment of spiritual issues and a bit of supernatural (I sure wish real life had this - well, maybe it does).

I look forward to a sequel and hopefully a series!

My family and I were in a Dive/Scuba shop in West Palm Beach, FL when my son asked me if I saw the books for sale and I hadn’t. I went to the table and saw this book’s cover and got halfway through reading the synopsis and decided I needed to read it. I know very little about diving and underwater crime scene investigation but this book was a great find and read. I would highly recommend Ghost River to anyone that likes thrillers with a paranormal touch.
