The Rising Stars saga marches on in this stellar paperback! See Special Matthew Bright and his career as a super-powered cop and "ghost detective" Lionel Zerb confront the Well of Souls!
Well... it wasn't bad, and it definitely had some interesting ideas floating around, but in the bigger picture it didn't exactly all make that much sense. The first thing that bothered me didn't let go until the end. Even though Poet had a very, very minor part right at the beginning he was just too much out of character in one single thing he said/wrote, that the whole book after that felt off. Explaining the feeling I had while reading this right now, does make it sound ridiculous, but that's the way it is. Maybe skip the foreword by Poet in Bright's story and enjoy the book for what it is. After all, if you - just as me - have read all the other Rising Stars books before, it's still enjoyable enough to not be a waste of time. After all, the story is interesting.
I have read the single issues which were part of the Top Cow 30th Anniversary Humble Bundle.
Very original story: a man can see and talk to the ghosts of the dead that linger on earth. While most people who employ him to get rid of whatever haunts their house think of him as a ghostbuster, he is actually a ghost-whisperer That is how the series starts. The first four issues are really good, the fifth is ok, but I still don't get the sixth issue. It's like there is a gap between the fifth and sixth issue, almost like they are part of 2 different series.
Voices of the dead was really interesting and well written but I think it failed to take into account the end of the main story arc - the 24 hour after the last event with the specials. I think that moment would have affected things more than was let on in the story. Overall this one was better than Bright.
Bright fleshes out the Mathew Bright story, which is fine. He's maybe just too much of a goody two shoes for me. Maybe I am just not that enamored of cops. Who knows. Mostly OK story but the resolution of the bomber was disappointing.
A very interesting view of what the world would do to and how it would view superhumans born suddenly into the population. A scary view of human prejudices and the cause and effect of these prejudices. Fantastic art and one of the best comic storylines I have ever read. High recommended
Another unnecessary prequel series released to continue tto milk the golden cow (like Before Watchmen, but even more superfluous). Adds nothing of particular interest to the series.
