One Springy, Singy Day is a vibrant, joyous story that follows a diverse cast of young children as they play throughout their day. There are ten young kids. They play and make things. They dance and twirl in the sun. Some stretch when waking up, and some grow a few inches. A young picture book filled with bright colors on one Spring afternoon. From rhymes like "glowy" and "blowy," these children are having fun alone or with siblings. They learn their a-b-c's and 1-2-3's along the way. From visiting the library to the local park, they sleep under their covers, gazing at the starry nightlights on the ceiling when going to bed.
Another enjoyable and adorable read from Renee Kurilla, who wrote and designed her other picture book, "The Flower Garden," this one is filled with love and laughter. As someone who wants to write their own picture book, this book helps that dream along the way. Reading it gave a smile to my face and made me feel warm and cozy. This a quick but fantastic read, as always, from Renee Kurilla.

This is a look at many different children and how they spend their day. The rhymes work, but the cadence drops in many places. However, with the bright and colorful illustration and the almost nonsense words, children are sure to love this and ask for it to be read over and over again.

ONE SPRINGY, SINGY DAY is a brightly colored and fun celebration of spring. Told in rhyming text, the book follows several young children as they go about their day, making art, messes, and playing. The book begins with waking up and continues through a busy day until settling down for bed.

What I loved: The illustrations are really what shines in this book, portraying a diverse set of characters with several skin colors and a child in a wheelchair. The bright colors and many details make this a delightful book to look through and will certainly appeal to toddlers and preschoolers. The activities are common ones, with playground play, blowing bubbles, going to the library, dancing, and more that will be highly relatable to little ones.

The text itself has lots of nice rhymes that roll off the tongue, and the amount of text on each page is brief, making the pages turn as quickly as little ones would like. The charming content combined with detailed images make this a delightful read.

What left me wanting more: As small points, some rhymes are a little forced, such as "waking up at dawn-y" where words are made up to rhyme. The rhythm also changes from page-to-page with some sentences and some lists of words without the sentence-like structure. This makes it flow a little rougher in some places where it switches.

Final verdict: Bright, sunny, and joyful, ONE SPRINGY, SINGY DAY is a charming, rhyming picture book that celebrates all the fun of toddlerhood. Recommend for toddlers and preschoolers.

Very cute illustrations that capture all the energy and business of toddlers/preschoolers. Includes diverse children, including a boy who is a wheelchair-user. I'm ok with some of the words being made into adjectives by putting a -y or -ey on the end, but some of them just come too close to other words (e.g. "noodles in your hair-y"; "two or three or four-y"). While these instances probably won't leave a lasting impression on little ones' language development/word recognition, that doesn't mean they were an appropriate choice.

Picture book. A cute book for the youngest of readers, this celebration of toddlerhood would be perfect for a baby or 2s/3s storytime. It is told in rhyme, with made up words allowed "peachy peary noodles in your hair-y". Some pages have an actual sentence while others have a set of rhyming words without punctuation. There are a lot of bright, colorful illustrations that feature multiple skintones and a wheelchair. A cute, happy book.

A celebration of all the things young children can do in the spring weather. It's fun wordplay too, especially the onomatopoeia. Kids will have fun pointing to all the things they like to do. More for one-on-one, so you can appreciate everything happening in each spread/panel.

If you find this book both adorable and exhausting... you're in the zone. That's how life is for caregivers who are charged with raising a toddler.

Basically, this is a happy, snappy hymn to toddlerhood. Complete with obvious rhymes and big illustrations that are ultra-easy for young eyes to decipher.

If cliches don't bother you, what luck! You'll enjoy this book more than I did... By which I mean such sentiments as:

You're a perfect, shiny star.
Make a wish and you'll go far.

RATING THIS BOOK

My policy is to rate books in terms of the intended readership. Here, that group would be toddlers themselves, and the (likely, exhausted to some degree) adults who are the careivers, parents, grandparents, babysitters, etc.

This book gives every one of them a very big uplift. So cheerful and bright and E*N*T*H*U*S*I*A*S*T*I*C!

Of course, this book deserves FIVE STARS.

Besides that, does this book appeal to me personally? Let's put it this way: It takes all kinds of Goodreaders to make a world.

Very cute, follows various diverse children through a daily routine, with simple rhyming text. I was really hoping to use this for a "weather" or "spring" storytime, but I was disappointed that the book has very little to do with spring. Misleading title. But without those expectations in place, still a cute book.
