✨The Chasing of Eleanor Vane✨
Elevator Pitch: 20-year-old Eleanor is running away from her arranged marriage to local ducal heir and wet towel. She meets the current silver-fox duke and falls in love like I fall up the stairs (promptly and without much grace). He saves her from a rain storm and decides the only way to warm her up is *friction.*
This one was fine, although it was the second age-gap one I’d read here and I am just not that into major age-gaps. He kinda pissed me off because he was really going to leave the duchy (and I’m assuming the tenants) to a spoiled sourpuss nephew, as well as saddle poor Eleanor to the jackass. To be fair, he didn’t know for sure that the nephew was as resembling of a donkey as he was, but it was still shitty.
The lead up to them getting together was longer than the time spent with them together. I would have rather had this a full length book. The whole Second Kingdom was interesting but not explored thoroughly to make it nothing more than a tease. Give us orgies or give us death! I did like how he was conscientious of her losing her virginity because he had *experience.*

Elevator Pitch: 18-year-old Violet has always been in love with her father’s 40-year-old duke friend. He initially has qualms but when she sticks her quim in his face, he’s loathe to refuse a nice, hearty meal (naturally, as his old bones are brittle and need the nutrients).
Good lord what does it mean when I didn’t find this book spicy?? It was like…fine but not anywhere near what could have happened?? The age gap was not my thing but I could look past that if I had just liked any of them better or it was hotter.

We love the French culture here. There was simply so much eating. He just wanted to eat all the time. Like the man was starving. Somebody get this man a snack!
I thiiiink this is my second favorite novella in the anthology. I loved the Parisian setting and all the food. ✨Well fed, well fucked, and well traveled.✨ I wish this was separately published as well because I’d love to own a copy. Favorite quotes: “Please don’t die until I come again.” and “If you’re very, very quiet, I imagine I can make you come before dessert arrives.”
The characters were a great blend of hot and bothered. They were super cute together and he was just a big cinnamon roll. He was definitely ready to risk it all. There was also a great sense of humor throughout the whole story. Bonus points for getting me sexually attracted to the name Arlo. Bonus points to Arlo for not needing a prick potion. Bonus points to Marena for choosing cunnilingus over dessert, I’m not sure I’m that strong.

Elevator Pitch: Younger duke has always had the hots (and erections) for his sisters’ older governess. She’s surprised when he comes home after a while and is someone she now wants to have said erections. There’s a meddling dowager duchess and a lot of learning. School is fun!
I would have preferred him to be a whole virgin but he was still inexperienced so it worked. I liked that they both pined for each other for years and that he didn’t just suddenly get attracted to her. It was also so fun that he had taken her dirty book and read the shit out of it (I think this is part of the book, I read this a while ago).
The duchess was better than I’d expected so I was pleasantly surprised. The two MCs were good people and the conflict was resolved without much strife. I really love the novella for low-angst, straight-to-sex, and but-they’re-also-super-lovable-characters vibes.
This one wasn’t very kinky. I really resent that I read hardcore sex scenes for work because now my standards for 🔥🔥🔥 are like really high. Me a year ago reading this would have exploded. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still hot, I just want a little more kink I think. It did have the tried and true school teacher fantasy though. And a lot of desk *work*

Elevator Pitch: (Almost) 30-year-old Ada seeks to be ravished by 40-year-old discrete and dirty duke Jasper. Both are sexy cinnamon rolls and just want to fuck (for the price of one schilling per *icing*) but to also fall in love (obviously they don’t know it yet).
THIS STORY WAS SO CUTE WHAT THE FUCK AND HOT BUT LIKE THE CUUUUUTENESS. This was my favorite story in the anthology and I need to grab my own kindle copy. I found it to be the perfect length, while also just so full of ooey-gooey melty moments between our two love muffins. It was low angst and high heat.
The story is dirty and delicious and I loved the sex. I loved that we were made promises about the bedroom soon comings and those promises most definitely came! Hello monsieur derrière dildo. Most books (if they even reference ass play) don’t actually go there so this was fun and so sexy. These two fit together so well.
It was also hilarious and I grabbed so many quotes to embroider on pillows with sparkly thread. My favorite line was about the man being a talking clock, how modern! My heart was bitch slapped by him wanting to learn how to make a bed. He was also so taken with her spectacles, bought her the cutest gift, and had a very cute relationship with his brother. Seriously everything about Jasper made me want to cancel my plans and risk it all. Ada thought along those same lines because she didn’t even notice the beautiful library she met him in because he himself was a beautiful feat of architecture.

I think I like this one better than Rake I’d Like to F… it just had more five star reads I would definitely reread, as well as a lot lighter in tone (for my favorites at least).

Okay so I only read 3 of the 5 novellas here (though I do plan to go back and catch up) but since the 3 novellas combined add up to a full length book, I'm counting this as read LOL.
The Chasing of Eleanor Vane - Sierra Simone: 3 stars
This one was a bit disappointing, because I adore Sierra Simone's words. The heroine is engaged to the hero's nephew, and yes the duke is QUITE a bit older than her. Unfortunately he spent way too much of the time pining over his dead wife and that would be fine in a full-length book, but it's not what I want to read in a novella.
My Dirty Duke - Joanna Shupe: 4 stars
Another huge (~20 year) age gap! The heroine falls in love with her father's best friend. FORBIDDEN.

If you are looking for a super steamy collection of erotic historical romance novellas, I'm going to highly recommend you check out Duke I'd Like to F... It features 5 fairly substantial (not to mention spicy) stories from different authors, featuring a variety of tropes and a decent amount of diversity to boot! I read these one at a time, in between other things and that was a great way to consume them imo.
From Sierra Simone we get an age-gap romance with a bisexual virgin who has a thing for her uncle-in-law to be. Unsurprisingly (if you've read anything else from this author) we also get references to things on the kinkier side such as a secret society for open sexuality.
Joanna Shupe brings another age-gap romance where a young woman carries a torch for her fathers best friend. A man with quite the reputation.
Eva Leigh's story is an age-gap with an older woman. A secretly bisexual governess is noticing her charges older brother when he returns from university all grown up. And perhaps he has had a long time crush and is in need of further education.
Nicola Davidson wrote what was probably my favorite story in the collection and I will be checking out more of her work. The spinster daughter of a fire and brimstone vicar doesn't want to die a virgin, so she hires the local duke to be her short-term lover. Two older women who are "companions" with a naughty sense of humor help her negotiate the contract. (they were such great characters honestly) This one also includes the use of period appropriate accessories.
Lastly, Adrianna Herrera wrote a great story that easily could have become a full-length novel. The main character is a biracial immigrant who works as an apothecary, thrown together for reasons with a duke who carries progressive ideals on a short trip to Paris.
This is a very solid collection and worth picking up when it comes available if it's your thing! I received an advance copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.

Short stories/novellas rarely have much if any character development, but in this story we learn who the two MCs are; their desires, fears, what motivates the decisions they make. This makes their connection more than just physical and adds depth to the story. They truly are perfect for each other. And oh, the steam, sizzle, passion and wanting.
Doing this made him as wild as it made her—and ah, the knowledge of that. The feeling of it. She wanted more and more and more of it; she wanted to be dragged under and drowned in it. “Please,” she murmured, not entirely sure what she was asking for, but knowing that it was more. “It feels so good. Please, Your Grace.” “Ajax,” he said. When he lifted his head, his pupils were blown laudanum-wide and his mouth was wet with her. “My name is Ajax.”

Short stories/novellas rarely have much if any character development, but in this story we learn who the two MCs are; their desires, fears, what motivates the decisions they make. This makes their connection more than just physical and adds depth to the story. They truly are perfect for each other. And oh, the steam, sizzle, passion and wanting.
Doing this made him as wild as it made her—and ah, the knowledge of that. The feeling of it. She wanted more and more and more of it; she wanted to be dragged under and drowned in it. “Please,” she murmured, not entirely sure what she was asking for, but knowing that it was more. “It feels so good. So much was covered in this anthology from age gap to kink & consent, racism & the slave trade, healing after trauma & women pursuing their own paths to happiness, & much more. Each story was sexy, witty, & refreshingly original.

The only thing that would make this story better, is more of it. I need so much more of Eleanor and Ajax Dartham, Duke of Jarrell. More tailcoats and breeches. More secret Second Kingdoms. More petticoats and silk stockings. I need more parties at Far Hope.

This is an anthology of five shorter historical romance stories that all center around Dukes, hence the title. Like always I’ll give a short review and rating for every story included in this book.

This was good, short and sweet. I liked the writing, I liked the concept and I liked the characters for the most part. The plot was intriguing and I can see myself picking up more books by Sierra Simone in the future.

This was okay, there’s nothing super outstanding about this story, but it wasn’t bad. The characters were good and the story was interesting. I didn’t enjoy reading the smut in this one as much as I thought I would, I don’t even know why, but it didn’t work for me.

I feel like the characters in this story were more likable. We get an age gap in this as well, the titular Duke is much younger than our FMC, he started obsessing over her when he was just 16 and now that he’s inherited his father’s title, much earlier than he had hoped, he sees her back at home every day and makes a deal with her, for her to teach him how to pleasure a woman. Things go from there, but I think it was fun. I liked that in this one it was the other way around and the FMC was the more experienced character.

I liked that we got to see London and Paris in this one. I think I would have enjoyed this story more, if it would have been a full novel.

This historical romance anthology has been on my TBR for a while and I’m so so glad I finally got to it. As the tagline says, this one delivers on Big Duke Energy and each novella was just as delicious as the last. If a little bit taboo and age gap are your jam (like they are for me) then you will love this collection of novellas! Only 1 author (Nicola Davidson) was new-to-me from this collection.
The Chasing of Eleanor Vane (Sierra Simone) - Delicious age gap between a Duke and his future niece-in-law. Eleanor is engaged to the Duke’s ridiculous man-child nephew and decides to run away one night. She gets rescued by the Duke who tells her all about a secret kingdom of lust & passion.
Duke for Hire (Nicola Davidson) - Ada is a vicar’s daughter who is turning 30 & ready to rid herself of her virginity. She goes to a Duke intent to hire him as her pleasure tutor. Ada arrives with a list of activities she wants to do, toys she wants to use, and all her ideas of pleasure she wants to give/receive.
An Education in Pleasure (Eva Leigh) - a newly titled Duke comes home from Oxford and finds himself infatuated with the governess on the property (who teaches his 2 younger sisters). Older woman-younger man age gap with the Duke becoming her pupil to learn all the ways of pleasure.
The Duke Makes Me Feel (Adriana Herrera) - Marena is an herbalist in London when one day Arlo, Duke of Linley, rolls into her shop requesting help tracking down someone. Their journey takes them to France, where Marena starts to see Arlo is unlike the typical men of the aristocracy and business becomes mixed with their pleasure.
My Dirty Duke (Joanna Shupe) - another delicious age gap between Violet who is in love with her father’s friend, Maximilian (Duke of Ravensthorpe). Max is very stand-off-ish to Violet and she is the one who seduces him. Loved both of these characters so much & the fact that Violet was into photography was so fun.

This was an absolutely DELICIOUS collection of HR stories with Dukes you definitely want to.... no wallflowers included!
I loved each author’s take on the premise. We got seriously dirty, kinda sweet and a dash of witty. This one gives you a smorgasbord of dukes & the women they “deflower” in the very best possible way.
Definitely recommend.

These stories are so much fun and each one different in tone. Can't pick a fave but forver love Adriana Herrera and Sierra Simone.

These types of stories aren't really my cup of tea. I knew that going in, but it sounded like a fun read. Mostly, it was not.
The Chasing of Eleanor Vane by Sierra Simone - strange, and a little creepy, with a bit of fantasy tossed in and never developed. 1 star
Duke for Hire by Nicola Davidson - very funny; lots of good sexy times; delightful secondary characters. 3 stars, mostly for the funny parts
An Education in Pleasure by Eva Leigh - good older governess/younger duke hot times. 3 stars
The Duke Makes Me Feel... by Adrianna Herrera - Umm, this duke didn't make me feel much, but this story was beautifully written. A point deducted for referring to the heroine as "Ms." Baine-Torres. 2.5 stars

I was prepared for these stories to be quite unrealistic, and they were. I was not prepared, however, for the ladies, even the young virginal ones, to have words like c*ck, c*nt, and cl*t in their vocabularies. I guess in a novella there's no time for him to teach her the dirty words.
And about that cover . . . . Yes, I am old; I picture Cary Grant as a duke. This cover model would never inspire me to buy this book. The tattoos and piercings have been photoshopped out, but I'm pretty sure that I saw the same guy on a motorcycle-gang romance. (I rarely look at covers, since I read solely on my Kindle, which is good because most covers are awful.)
So, as a Kindle unlimited freebie, I enjoyed this book. It produced the desired effect, and I regretted being alone when I finished it.

This collection is supposed to be historical m/fs but most really didn't feel time appropriate. It took me more than a year to read all the stories and I couldn't finish the last one. I don't remember the ones I read a year ago so I'll just copy my review/updates:
The Chasing of Eleanor Vane: 1* this was insta everything, she sees him and is in love, they have one 10min conversation and he is too. The ending was abrupt and the characters lacked depth to me. There was a lot of info-dumps and too much inner monologues for very little actually happening. This was not my cup of tea.
Duke for Hire: 2* the set up is not original. The language and outlook on life felt very anachronistic to me. It was too insta-lovey. The second star is for the ending that was nice and the LGBTQ+ rep even though the story is M/F
An Education in Pleasure: 2* it was hot and the reversal was good (the woman is the teacher of sex and older while the male is the student). That aspect was very well done but it is supposed to be a historical and to me it failed on that front. It was also way too in your face with the overall messages

I bought this strictly on Joanna’s name, Eva was a close second and neither of them disappointed. They both wrote great stories with characters I loved.

I was really disappointed with this collection (and it included my favorite Gilded Age romance writer Joanna Shupe!) There were 5 (very explicit) stories in this collection and most of them were just sex with no plot or character development. The shining exception to this was the one by Adriana Herrera that had better pacing, characters, and plot than all the others put together. I will definitely look that author up!

I haven't been reading a lot of historical romance for a while and I must admit when I saw Sierra Simone on the list of authors I was drawn in. I'm so glad I did as this line up of authors produced some really great stories which I would have missed out on otherwise.
As the title of the book suggests these stories are hot. As you can imagine the heat is dependant on the author but overall they are quite delicious.
If you are after a historical escape then add this anthology to your reading pile.
