Rogue Dragons #5

Tasting the Forbidden

Rate this book
Her mom always told her that dragon shifters would burn her to death for her magic, and now the local dragon-clan leader is hunting her down.

Nellie loves her small town, but ever since a rag-tag bunch of dragon shifters moved in and snapped up her friends as mates, she’s considered leaving. Even being in the presence of a dragon shifter can send her into a panic attack. That’s a problem since her best friend and coworker, Evangeline, has changed into one. To make matters worse, Evangeline is pushing Nellie to let her guard down around the hot but scary clan leader, Gavin. Never. Going. To. Happen.

The trouble is, Gavin won’t stop looking for her, and Nellie has used up nearly all her magic trying to avoid him.

Gavin Masters knows he’s a monster, but that doesn’t stop him wishing Nellie would keep even one of the gifts he’s sent her. He can’t stop thinking about her sassy wit, her soft curves, and her silky hair. His obsession with her has almost completely driven out the wild pain he felt when the woman he thought was his mate left him, claiming to be afraid of him. Unfortunately, Nellie is afraid of him, too—with good reason, he learns. Many of her ancestors have been burned to death by dragons. Gavin would never let anyone do that to Nellie, but he understands why she could never trust him.

Too bad he can’t convince his beast—or his heart—that pursuing her is a lost cause.

The last book in the Rogue Dragons series, Tasting the Forbidden is a steamy romance with great action and a satisfying happily-ever-after that makes it a great read either on its own or with the other books in the series. This latest from Emilia Hartley, is best for adult readers.

As their Clan leader, Gavin is still questioning his fitness to be the leader. He still views himself as a monster, like his father. His dragon has been looking for Nellie, a witch, since he first saw her when she helped them chase his father’s dragons off.

Nellie is a witch that hates dragons because she thought one had killed her mother when she was a teenager. She is so afraid, she has been using all her magic on an invisibility spell so Gavin can’t see her. She is even afraid of her best friend Evangeline because she was turned into a dragon. Eventually, her magic gives out right in front of Gavin. He catches her and takes her to the clan cabin to recover. When she wakes up and he hasn’t eaten her or demanded she serve the clan, she begins to question her beliefs. They are just starting to get to know each other when Gavin’s former fiancé Tiffany shows up trying to get back together with him. He is very confused and figures she is his only chance for a mate because he is such a monster. With Nellie’s help, he realizes he doesn’t love Tiffany and she doesn’t love him. He figures his father sent her to cause trouble making it easier to launch a sneak attack. Nellie shows him that what they had wasn’t love, just him settling. Gavin’s dragon is totally set on Nellie as their mate! As they get to know each other, he realizes he isn’t the monster he has always been told he was. Once they commit to each other, Nellie’s magic returns even stronger than before. It’s a good thing because Zander picks that time to launch his attack, bringing an army with him. Unfortunately for Zander, half of his clan want to get rid of him because he is so cruel. So with their help and Nellie’s magic, Zander is defeated. The new clan leader pledges his friendship to Gavin’s clan moving forward.

I am sure this will eventually come out as a boxed set and when it does grab it!

Holy crap this was incredible! This whole series was totally amazeballs. I mean from book one it was a "no sleep page turner." Everytime Emilia Hartley wrote another installment, I knew I wasn't going to bed until the last page was read. Now let me give you a little run down, cause I don't do spoilers. So, Gavin has wanted Nellie for a while now. But, he doesn't really think he deserves her. See, Gavin has some low self esteem due to things in his past. Nellie fears Gavin, because... she is a witch and witches and dragons have not a good history, more like a violent history. So basically she thinks his Dragon is a monster and he scares the hell right out of her. Now her friends Evangeline and Isabella are all for it. See, they both mated with dragons. But Nellie listened to her mom and her mom told her, "it's a no go on the drago." Now there still a war coming and they must be ready for it. And.....(I'm going to tell you a big secret.) There is something that happens probably a little past two thirds of the book that reall blows Nellie's cookies ( which is okay because she's really more into donuts. So, i can't give anymore the story of way because then it would not be as enjoyable for you. What I can tell you is that you need to start at the very first book of the series. It makes it so much more entertaining, when you know what's going on and you're not guessing. So it really is important to start with the first book and trust me you'll love it as much as this one because all of them are phenomenal. I know a lot of people will think they should just read whatever book to see if they're going to like it but my theory on that is, why get a taste of your favorite dessert when you can have a full serving. Remember, if you want to read a book you can't put down, then you have to pick it up first.

❤️❤️ONE SKYROCKETING TREAT❤️❤️
Enthralling! Emilia brought out the big guns with this tough as nails 100% on point realism delivering up some harsh facts, dastardly deeds and ruthless decisions, keeping you riveted on a razors edge and frozen to your seat, launching this jewel to staggering heights. Add the deadly drama, perilous intrigue, unfolding revelations, underlying currents, escalating danger, spiraling suspense and intense situations ensue, fusing this gem together seamlessly. Dissolved limitations and crushed restrictions are amplified and expanded, drawing deep for every ounce of strength in a fierce surge of preservation and determination, propelling forward with such intensity and vigor, blasting this bad boy to life brilliantly. The attraction and chemistry collides with such ardor, unveiling explosive emotions and undeniable affection, drawing our characters closer, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits add depth and diversity, transforming them into lovable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and vivid descriptions creating an elaborate backdrop that makes the storyline explode. Fantastic job Emilia, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Tasting The Forbidden, Rogue Dragons, book 5, by Emilia Hartley

Fantastic end to a brilliant series! I've really enjoyed this the latest series from Emilia Hartley.
Gavin is his father, Zander's biggest disappointment! But he doesn't care. He left his clan in heartbreak hoping his Dragon would burrow and enter his dead sleep. Instead he went to a small mountain town and brooded. His father sent three clan mates to return him home but , they stayed and joined him in his fight against his overbearing father. As his new clan strengthened as the friends found their mates Gavin's Dragon begins to enjoy his "new" family, but he can't stop himself from craving the little Witch friend of two of the clan' s mates.
Nellie is a Witch, for her whole she has been warned way from Dragons. Dragons burn witches including at least one of her family, but whilst the clan has been in her small town she's tried to "cloak" herself to avoid the clan leader, Gavin. He's showered her with expensive gifts, that's she's immediately returned to him. Then one day her magic fails and she literally falls at Gavin's feet. He picks her up and takes her home. How will she react once she regains consciousness!?
This all goes on with the impending war between Gavin's clan and his Father's clan. This is a gripping end to the series that I couldn't put down!
A great series from an excellent author I thoroughly recommend this and her other series's

This is the final book of this series and is very well done. Gavin Masters never wanted to be clan leader, but he sort of got chosen for it anyway! And in return, those who chose to follow him became his family.

The part that would make life much better was to have his mate accept him. Nellie was a witch, always told by her mother to be afraid of dragons and what they would do to her magic. So she hid her magic, depleted it, and avoided being near Gavin whenever possible. Nellie’s two best friends are mated to dragons in the clan which causes her to struggle even more with how she feels. When she is force to be around him more, she begins to realize that he was not what she thought and she had been wrong to judge him the way she had. He has also felt the change and the two of them begin a real connection. But war is coming as Gavin’s father is ready to indiscriminately kill whomever he must. Yet Gavin won’t be alone as allies even he didn’t expect come to assist.

Grab your copy and find out how this all works out for Gavin, Nellie and the clan. Will Gavin and Nellie finally accept each other as mates? Will Nellie at last find happiness?

We finally get Nellie and Gavin's story and it was worth the wait!. Nellie has been using her magic to hide from Gavin, but that comes to naught when her magic is finally used up and she appears right in front of him - and passes out. Gavin can't believe his eyes when Nellie literally appears right in front of him and then almost hits the pavement. He takes her home with him and puts her in his own bed, hoping she will recover. When she finally comes around it is only to discover that she has no magic, or at least she has none at the current time. It might come back or it might not. She figures her usefulness to Gavin is now non-existent since he surely only wanted her for what her magic could do for him when his father comes to exterminate the pack. Boy, is she ever wrong. He claims he was never after her for that reason, he wants her for, well, her. Find out how that works out and what happens when the big, bad, dragon comes calling!

I hadn't read any of the previous books in this series. Although the story could be considered stand alone, I just don't roll that way so I had to read the first four books in the series first, and I'm so glad I did. Each book built on the one before and concluded in this final story that wrapped the whole series up nicely. Nellie was a witch who had be raised to fear dragons, yet her friends each had mated with dragons and in one case had become a shapeshifter herself. Gavin was a presumed heir that deserted his dragon clan, and yet somehow gathered a group of dragons, humans, and even a witch to start his own clan. The only part of this story I wasn't thrilled with was the reappearance of Gavin ex. There was never really a good explanation as to why she showed back up and he wasn't really good at telling her to hit the road until Nellie was there supporting him. Nevertheless I liked the book, the entire series and recommend them all.

Final book in the series and I absolutely loved it! This one focuses on Gavin and Nellie and the long awaited war with Gavin's father finally arrives. There is violence and bloodshed from the battle, some shocking and unexpected twists, amazing friends who are really family, genuine, healing love, and a very satisfying HEA.
Gavin just wanted to be left alone but has become the unwilling leader of a clan of misfit/outcast dragons and their newfound mates, and while standoffish, reluctant and grumbly at the start, he has come to care for each and every one of them.
As a witch Nellie has been taught all her life to fear dragons but now her two best friends are mated to dragons and she is struggling with what to do. She has also been using up all her magic to hide herself from Gavin who has become obsessed with her. When circumstances force them to be in close proximity, truly unexpected feelings surface that has them both questioning their past beliefs and finding a genuine connection that leads to something powerful.

With every series, there is one character who's story you're dying to be told. This was it for me. I knew things for Gavin and Nellie would not go smoothly. But I was unprepared for the amount of surprises, betrayals and heartbreak. Nellie is a witch and well aware of what kind of danger comes with dragons. She will do whatever it takes to keep Gavin from getting his hands on her. Even if the cost is her magic. Gavin knows he is a monster. He also knows it's what keeps Nellie away. However, his father is bringing a war to them. He will do whatever it takes to keep his clan safe. Including Nellie. But first, they will need to come to some type of understanding. This is what will change the future for both of them. It will take everything they have to win this battle and find peace. A fast paced read full of exciting twists and turns. I hate to see this series end. It has brought hours of great enjoyment. An epic finish.

Gavin is the reluctant leader of a band of misfit dragons but he has learned more about himself in helping them find their balance along with their mates. Now it is time to end the war his father his waging and the fear that the little witch, Nellie, has used to keep him at arm's length. Nellie has used all her strength in hiding from Gavin because of the fear her mother had instilled in her. She is at her most vulnerable and is expecting the worst when Gavin takes her home. But there she is cared for, brought into the family she had known and a new family still forming. When Gavin's ex returns Nellie must decide what is important. The war comes to a head, the family/clan becomes stronger together and a happy ending is in sight if they can prevail. Real personalities are built for this fictional group that draws the reader into their world. Forces from both outside and within themselves battle for their attention and energy. This series was a nice visit to a brave new world.

I voluntarily read an arc of this book for an honest review. What an amazing finale! I have been so looking forward to this book. Gavin, our beautiful, giant alpha and Nellie the kick butt witch who’s saved everyone’s bacon more than once. I was not disappointed, their story was epic as it should be. Gavin chased Nellie until finally she fell into his arms...literally lol. Zander is back as are some other characters we didn’t want to see again. I love how this author doesn’t do what I expect her to do. The emotions from her characters are not the usual but so much better! I have really wondered how this small clan would defeat Zander and his large clan. You’ve got to read this book! I called it the finale but that’s just my impression. Hopefully there’s more but even if it’s another series, I can’t wait to read it.

Family is more than blood ties!

During this fifth book, Gavin and Nellie faced their baseless fears. They should use other resources to tackle their challenging responsibilities, but they realized they had more associates and advantages than they thought. Just check this plot to know how they fulfill their purposes together.

Emilia Hartley concludes this series with our final couple, two unbelievable stronger, and well-structured characters, painfully hurt by family but willing to overcome their struggles. They built trust each other and support lovingly together, to claim ties stronger than blood around them, within a breathtaking scheme full of sweetness, unpredictable twists and turns, passion, and ardently romance. ¡Just the right conclusion of this wonderful series, that engages you until the end!

The final book in this wonderful series is about Nellie Hayes, tattoo artist/witch, and Gavin, leader of the Rouge clan. Nellie is best friends with Evangeline and Isabella but when Evangeline and Daphne come come into her tattoo shop she's nervous because she was raised to fear dragons. The girls come in to plea that she give Gavin a chance. Gavin can't stop thinking about Nellie and his dragon is angry that she disappears when he's near. Gavin also has another worry of a war with his father's clan. When Nellie decides to give Gavin his chance and things are going good between them his old flame Tiffany returns. Then the war begins... What happens in this story is a fabulous finale to a wonderful series I thoroughly enjoyed reading and I volunteer to read and review this ARC via Booksprout and the author.

This is the last book in the Rogue Dragons series, and we get all about Gavin, the unintentional clan leader. Shen he started out, he just wanted to be alone, having been run through it between his father & his thought to be mate. But then he got inundated by shifters (originally there to take him back) & their mates, who decided they were a clan and he was their leader. And even though he fought this at first, gradually he started accepting it, and seeing them as his family. The only missing piece was his witch. Nellie is friends with the girls, but always had a fear of dragons. When she has no choice but to be around Gavin after weeks of hiding, she starts to realize she was wrong this whole time. As they grow closer, they all become more unified for the war that Gavins father is bringing. I loved Gavins book! I’ve always had a soft spot for the grumbly leader. And I loved this whole series!! Definitely needs to be read by all!!

Nellie was taught to fear dragons and being chased by one and surrounded by others had her scared, bewildered, and almost out of control. Left broken after being rejected, it had only brought Gavin doubt and suffering. The mysterious witch had him struggling with his emotions and feelings. Had he been wrong before and now had he found his mate? Nellie found herself opening her eyes and her heart to new hope, but would she have the strength to fight for what her heart wanted? Nellie struggled a lot with her situation but in the end, she gained confidence and the prize. I liked her character and how little by little she was strengthened being herself. Good support and camaraderie from the supporting characters. Action, suspense, deception, bullies, bickering, magic, violence, romance and passion. Voluntarily reviewed this interesting and entertaining book that I received free from Booksprout and I liked.

This is the last in the series and is about Gavin, the Dragon leader, and Nellie, the Dragon hating witch.
Nellie only hates dragons because her mother told her horrible stories about them, before vanishing, and leaving Nellie alone.
Nellie has been using magic to hide from Gavin, but it's wearing her down. Then her magic goes. Gavin knows that his dragon thinks Nellie is his mate, but he's treading carefully to not push her away, he hasn't got over thinking that Tiffany was his mate, and the way she treated him, then she turns up again, trying to fetch him back.
Zander is still around, incapable of leaving Gavin to do his own thing, wanting a fight to the end.
Do Nellie and Gavin overcome their differences? Can Gavin's clan beat Zander?

TASTING THE FORBIDDEN (Rogue Dragons Book 5), by Emilia Hartley is the ending (I think) of a great series about misfit dragons trying to change their lives for the better.  As they start their new lives, hanging over their new life is the threat of their former King threatening to destroy their new clan.

Gavin has been trying to find an elusive witch in town. He just can't seem to find her. When he finally finds her, his world gets turned upside down.

The characters are easy to get to know and so enchanting you will fall in love with all of them. The story is filled  with the usual bad guys, good guys, and damsels to save and to save you.

I was turning pages as fast as I could until suddenly there were no more pages to turn.

4 1/2 Stars.... This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Tasting the Forbidden by Emilia Hartley is the fifth book in her Rogue Dragons series. One by one I have fallen in love with these characters and this series. I have laughed, cried, raged and found myself wanting to bite my nails through these reads. We finally get Gavin and Nellie's story and it is amazingly sweet, heart rending, sexy (Mature Readers Only) and uplifting! Their romance takes so many twists and turns, it almost seems the odds are stacked against them. Like the previous books, the characters are well developed and the writing immersive and addictive. I felt like I was visiting, not reading. Here is a series that has earned a spot on my Keeper Shelf. I definitely want more!

Patience and persistence is the key.

Nellie is so afraid of dragons she has panic attacks just thinking about them. Now one of her best friends is a dragon and the other is mated and pregnant by another. Gavin has been trying to woo her for awhile but she's having none of it. After he rescues her from herself, she starts to see beyond her fear of the dragon to the man who wants her. Zander is still a threat and he's still playing dirty. They have one more battle before it ends one way ot the other. I love the happiness and easy going relationship they all have together. I do wish I knew what Isabella and Dillon's baby was and how how tightly that little one has those big bad dragons wrapped around his/her little fingers. Tasting the Forbidden by Emilia Hartley is the last of the Rogue Dragon series…and it’s a beautiful ending to the series!!! It’s the story of Gavin and Nellie. He’s the leader a group of dragons…and he is hopelessly drawn to Nellie. She is a witch and terrified of dragons. So, the is constantly working at avoiding him. There’s lots of extraneous events occurring in this story…a culmination of situations that have been building throughout the series. FABULOUS STORY!!!!!!! Can’t miss this satisfying end to this wonderful series!!!!

A quick, fun read that doesn't disappoint with the final ending of the series. Nellie is a witch and while growing up her mother always told her that witches and dragons don't mix. When Gavin moves to the small town and Gavin is there to show her that dragons and witches can be mates. He's there to protect her even when his ex shows up in town. Nellie helps him by pretending that they are together. Gavin knows that war is coming and his father will do anything to his son to get him out of the way. Nellie will not tolerate that and watch her mate die. Her magic comes back but stronger and different that what she had before. This is a steamy romance with lots of action and a fantastic HEA. Who is Nellie Hayes, what does she do for a living, and why is she freaked out? What is she? Who are Evangeline and Daphne? How does she know them? What do we learn about Gavin, Casey, Dillon, and Erik? I do not much care for Tiffany. I think I like Tyler. It seems that most of the folks around Gavin didn't much like Tiffany either! Why? Who is Zander and what happens with regards to him in this story? What do we learn about Nellie's family? Boy, do things really come to a head in several ways in this story! Do not miss reading it. I could not put it down.

Nellie has been trying to avoid Gavin since the day they met. She is a witch and has been brought up to think that dragon shifters kill all witches. It is hard to avoid him as all her friends are falling in love with his dragon shifter friends, so she has a permanent cloaking spell that hides her from him but ends up draining all her magic.
This is when Gavin finally finds her and shows her that he is not what she had always believed. He is drawn to her, and she to him although she is fighting it.
The chemistry is there and he slowly cracks her defences and she she sees him for what he is .... the love of her life. It’s not that straightforward though - they have ex girlfriends and estranged father to battle with first which only makes their bond stronger.

The final book in a great series. Gavin has always been told he is a monster and not in control of his dragon and will create fear n everyone. His first love left him as she was frightened of what he could become. Nellie is a witch and grew up with tales of how dragons treated her ancestors and that they would burn her just for being a witch. After laying eyes on Nellie when she helps her friend Evangeline, who has joined the clan, Gavin's dragon is fixated on Nellie. Nellie uses her magic to hide from Gavin and returns all his gifts. But she uses up all her magic and is forced to spend time with Gavin. But is what they have both been told by their parents true or is the real monster elsewhere. Lots of action, battles, humour, friendship loyalty and love.

I absolutely love this series and plan on reading them all again. She was raised as a witch believing things that are not as they really are. So she runs scared when he keeps looking for her. I don't want to spoil that part so read the book. And he believes one thing from a bad relationship he had in the past. On top of that his father has been trying to cause trouble and get him back with his pack the who series. Well that comes to a head in this one. You have so much in this one. Excitement, emotions, surprises and so much more. A pack of misfits who have come together to form their own clan and a big happy family in so many ways. Very well written and recommended. Gavin is the runaway dragon we met in book one. The alpha. Nellie is a witch that is scared of dragons due to her mothers stories. She uses her magic to hide from Gavin even though he sends her all kinds of gifts she still does not trust him. Gavin is serious attracted to her and his dragon has bonded to her. Just when things look to be going their way his old flame steps into the picture and says she wants to try again and tries to guilt Gavin but with Nellies help she does not succeed. Then the war comes to the front door of Gavins clan. We have drama, suspense, Love the characters. Another great read by this author.

Nellie is a witch and works at a tattoo shop as their piercer. Gavin is a dragon shifter who left his father's clan after his mate left him,  only to have several other shifters show up where he is staying. They are trying to convince him to come back. But none of them realize his father is out to kill them all. Nellie and Gavin crosspaths when her best friend gets with his best friend. But being a witch Nellie keeps herself hidden because she was taught dragons kill witches. Gavin is determined to find her but not to kill her he feels a certain draw to her. What will happen when Nellie quits hiding from Gavin? What will happen when his ex shows up? Will his father succeed in taking Gavin and his new clan out? Will Nellie and Gavin have a HEA?

Wonderful conclusion to the story! I was wondering what would happen to Gavin and the witch. Now I know why she was so scared of dragons and why Gavin was pursuing her. Things also came to a satisfactory conclusion with Gavin’s father who was a real butt head. He got what he deserved and lost all his power at the hands of a witch. I love the family and clan that Gavin put together of others who had their own issues but found love that helped them deal with their individual issues. I recommend this series to everyone 18 and older.
