Flora MacGregor has a heart as big as the sky. Her first thought is always of helping or doing for someone else. She is also a thief. She doesn’t want to be a thief; she just doesn’t have any alternative. Family is everything to her and while hers isn’t one of blood, they are still as important to her as if they were blood. She’ll do whatever she has to in order to protect them. With one of her older 'brothers’ in danger and all of them facing eviction, she knows she has to come up with a great deal of money. Boy did she ever luck up – she just made a huge score off the English dandy whose pocket she just picked. At least, she thought she was in luck until the dandy tracked her down and dragged her back to his hotel room to force her to tell him what she’d done with his treasure.

Isaac Nathaniel Hamilton, 7th earl of Dunbridge, has just earned back the fortune his uncle lost at cards. He’s spent years tracking down the man who won the fortune and now he’s in Scotland and has just won it back. He’s so pleased with himself that he’s walking down the street with a wide self-satisfied smile on his face. Even better, the most ravishing woman has just bumped into him and their touch lingered. What a good day! Well – it was a good day until he realized that the box with the deeds and jewels is missing. Why that thieving little minx! He’ll just track her down and make her return it all.

After he finds her and brings her back to his hotel room, he tries to coerce her into showing him where she has hidden his property. She’s not quite as easy to coerce as he would have thought. She’s beautiful and the attraction is strong – but she’s also stubborn and determined not to return his property. She’s convinced he doesn’t need it and she knows she does need it to save her family. As the danger to Flora rears its ugly head, Isaac knows he has to keep her safe – even if it means dragging her out of Aberdeen and off to a house party among members of the ton.

They have a strong attraction that turns into love. She wants to protect him – and he wants to protect her – so maybe they can protect each other. Of course, she also wants to protect her ‘brother’ and that brings danger to all of them.

I enjoyed this story and I’m glad I read it. I do think it is highly improbable though. A thief, raised in the streets of Aberdeen, still manages to be clean, neat, and smell like strawberries. That just doesn’t seem possible. Then, she attends a house party among members of the ton and finds acceptance. Her manners, speech, etc. must have been so far afield that both of them would have been asked to leave. None of that kept me from enjoying the story – it was just incongruous for the time (1811).

I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, To Covet a Highland Criminal, because it features the ‘brother’ who was in need of saving – Bran. I hope you enjoy the read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A fast paced adventure, with a beautiful Scottish thief and the nobleman she steals from... Sound exciting? Absolutely!

Once a thief always a thief? Well only if she has to, and in this case Flora needed funds and fast, to help her family. She saw her mark, a Sassenach, well dressed man and purposefully bumped into him. What she did not expect was being mesmerized when she looked into his eyes! But almost without conscious thought, she stole the box out of his pocket and made off with the goods.

Isaac, Earl of Dunbridge could not believe it when he found his box gone that held his winnings that would restore his family's fortune and name. He realized it had to be the girl who bumped into him!

Let the journey begin as these two come into danger, a villian, secrets and an attraction that will not be denied as they wrestle their way to the end. Loved it!

A Wicked Highland Misfits novel

Book One: To Have a Highland Thief

Having lost her parents at a young age, Flora MacGregor grows up as the substitute mother for a group of notorious criminals. Her Window to love and freedom.

Will she finally feel she is enough ...

Wow, what a fabulous first in a series the author offers us all with this wonderful tale of second love and unconditional love.
Flora survived her deepest wound, being not enough for her parents to keep her. Since she tried to make up by helping others to find their worth. But the scar is still raw, and she believes she can made do with her “siblings” finding their right path, that it will be enough for herself to be content.
But hounded from all sides, everyone wanting a piece of her, she is loosing her battle, shutting out her hopes for a different future.
Isaac did it, finally he was able to reclaim what was lost because of an inconsiderate fool. The avenir of those under his care is within an inch of being secured. Until a thief intervenes and nearly ruins everything.
He has every right to be angry, thus his retaliation, still his gentleness at handling Flora, despite his ire, demonstrates he is a person to be trusted. He could have washed his hands of her, yet he protects her as soon as he learns she is in danger. Of course he has second thoughts, but as time passes and he get to glimpse past her mask, he realizes she is the most self sacrificing being he ever met.

With all the secrets Flora hides, I stayed on edge most of my reading, wondering when the second shoe would drop, as she is like an artichoke, one mystery after another until you find the heart.

Strange how the author pressed her ideas, the hero’s mother is only present through his comments or thoughts, yet she is like a shadow looming close by, a being I disliked more and more throughout the pages.
I would have liked to be a mouse to see her reaction when Isaac would have introduced Flora to her. As she even farer than an universe away from the opposite picture Isaac’s mother has for his future bride.
5 stars

I am now curious about Flora’s “siblings”.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen detailed foreplays and lovemaking scenes.
𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 talk of a past sexual assault

I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

The heroine of this story is Flora MacGregor who is an orphan after losing her parents as a child. So she found a substitute family but she has to steal and be a pick pocket to help provide for the other children in her so called family. Of if she doesn’t do this they would truly be destitute and out on the street. God knows what they might have to do to earn money. As many vipers would love child prostitution and who would even survive in that profession.

The truth is Flora hates stealing from honest people and now she truly has no choice as her step-brother has been taken. As she has to pay off his debt and even the others in her so-called family of thieves cannot help her. As only she can pay off his debt to release him.

Then the most wonderful opportunity appears to herself as she finds the perfect mark. Plus the English sassenach is so taken by Flora’s beauty he does not even realize he was robbed blind. Except the box she took is something Isaac Nathaniel Hamilton, 7th earl of Dunbridge his Uncle gambled always years ago. It is the the papers of his families shipping fortune that had been lost.

So Isaac is a little more than furious and when he goes to report her to the authorities and discovers he is not getting any help on that end. It seemed the beautiful pickpocket had protection everywhere even with the law! So he decided to handle this himself, so he basically abducts her and keeps he locked up in his room. Except as she tried to escape her gown is ripped in revealing places and she even tears her lip. Isaac knows to anyone it will look like he forced himself on her. Yet as time wears on Issac and Flora’s attraction just gets deeper and more confusing.

Although he does fantasize about making her his mistress but he knows his snobbish relatives and noble friends will never accept an unsophisticated highland Lass. Yet he forgets she has his belongings at the most inconvenient times yet the highland Lass even wins over his ver unemotional elder valet. Isaac starts to wonder if she has some kind of magic where other people are concerned. Except one problem is Flora won’t give it back as she only sees Isaac as this wealthy man with plenty of blunt who won’t even miss this wealth. It isn’t until Flora is threatened by a crime box and Isaac offers his protection in exchange for his stolen goods that Isaac starts to understand Flora has a big heart and is trying to protect others from the darkness of living on the street.

Flora too is very attracted to Isaac, even though she knows it’s wrong. As she has too many people that depend on her, to care for them, Except one problem is Flora won’t give Isaac’s box of wealth back! She only sees Isaac as this wealthy man with plenty on blunt who won’t even miss this amount of wealth. It isn’t until Flora is threatened by a crime box and Isaac offers his protection in exchange for his stolen goods that Isaac starts to understand Flora has a big heart and is trying to protect others from the darkness of living on the street.

Will Flora ever give Isaac her heart or like stolen belongings will she just disappear like dust in the wind never to be seen again? Do these star crossed lovers even have a chance at happiness. Read and find out.

Again Lori Ann Bailey pens a new series that readers will be enchanted by. This one is set in the regency period but is just as enjoyable as her medieval Highlander’s. I absolutely loved Flora and Isaac’s story and excited to read more for this captivating author. I have been reading Ms. Bailey’s books since her debut and they never disappoint. I absolutely recommend this book as it is amazing from start to finish plus I read it in one setting. It’s a book I could not put down.

Wow, what an adventure Lori Ann Bailey brings us on! I so enjoyed Flora and Isaac's story, two people who couldn't be more different and yet their attraction to each other cannot be denied. A thief, an earl, stolen goods, secrets, danger, you get all that and more in this story.

Flora meets her match when she steals from Isaac and before she knows it, he's holding her prisoner. She's never liked stealing but will always do what is necessary to help her "family" of rag tag orphans. I loved her character, she's so feisty and yet has a heart of gold. I also loved Isaac's character, so honourable and kind. Little does he know how much his life will change after he meets Flora but first they need to learn to trust each other!

Well written, fast paced action, never a dull moment and characters that you will take to heart. I was given an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

To Have a Highland Thief (Wicked Highland Misfits, #1) by Lori Ann Bailey

This is the first book in this new series, Flora MacGregor was separated from her parents and grows up as a pseudo mother of a gang of lost children "street thieves". Isaac Nathaniel Hamilton, 7th earl of Dunbridge who has spent years trying to regain the fortune lost by his gambling uncle. Just when he gets it back Flora picks his pocket and steals it. This book has so many feelings, family (not only by blood), some evil men, adventure, angst, hard decisions, laughs, tears, steamy stuff and finding out all is not what it seems to get us to a HEA. I am looking forward to the next book in this series TO COVET A HIGHLAND CRIMINAL.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Unpredictable Witty Steamy Romantic Happily Ever After Action-packed Entertaining Tear-jerker Page-turner Wonderful characters Easy-to-read Great world building Scary

The first is a new series & a lovely starter. I loved both Isaac & Flora who wanted to protect each other, the attraction was there from the start & only grew as the unlikely pair fell in love. I also loved their verbal banter A lovely love story which I read in two sittings. I did find it hard to believe that flora would have fit seamlessly into a house party as Isaac had only taught her how to use silverware a few days before but as I was enjoying the book so much I ignored this. There was also the problems of vengeful gang lords & a ship’s captain to be resolved, both of which were well handled
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.

To Have A Highland Thief was a good book. There was a lot that was not really credible. The story was interesting and followed most romantic historical fiction patterns. I wish there had been less sexual description and I do not feel the relationship was really described realistically.

Flora MacGregor and her brothers and sisters were all abandoned or unwanted.  Now they live together and take care of each other.  Sometimes that is very difficult, especially if one of them is in trouble.  Flora will do anything to protect them,  including steal.

Isaac Hamilton, Earl of Dunbridge has at last won back the family fortune lost by his uncle. Unfortunately for him he also runs into a beautiful thief.

Both our protagonists need to save thier families.  Which one will win in the end???

This is a lovely historical romance with fabulous characters and an intriguing story.  Not at all what you expect.

Great fun.

“ To Have A Highland Thief “ is the first book in Lori Ann Bailey’s new Wicked Highland Misfits series. This is a a outstanding story filled with danger, intrigue, romance and love.

Isaac Nathaniel Hamilton, 7th Earl of Dunbridge our hero, and Flora’s story will keep you captivated. Isaac is a devoted family man and wants to see them safe and protected. From the first meeting with the beautiful Flora it was clear Isaac was smitten. Flora is a young woman orphaned, lost by her family, one step from living on the streets who has taken on the responsibility of urchins, (adopted) as her new family. Well she doesn’t like resorting to thievery she feels that she must do what it takes to protect those under her care. The problem is she steals from the wrong man. Isaac is determined to retrieve his stolen property so he tracks her down.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It was wonderful storyline where we see the differences between the haves and have nots. I was drawn to Flora and felt she was desperately trying to protect those under her care to fill the holes left in her heart being orphaned. Flora and Isaac have beautiful chemistry together and Isaac begins to see just what kind of person Flora really is. I wasn’t impressed with her idea that because they were poor and in need they deserved Isaac’s money more than he did. But I realize the pressure so much responsibility would have on a young woman. This was such a delightful, well written tale! I loved the story so much. It was just wonderful to see Flora and Isaac get their HEA!

The writing is full and descriptive leaving your senses enamored with sights, smells and sounds. Her imagery and dialogue was on point and in keeping with the story. The characters are charming and likable. It flows seamlessly from scene to scene and the author is obviously quite talented.

Thank you so much Ms. Bailey for this enchanting love story.

Flora MacGregor loves her family more than anything in the world and would do anything for them – including steal. Flora hates being a thief, but to save her brother she takes to the streets in search of a mark and ends up getting way more than she anticipated! The box she lifted from the handsome man was filled with papers and jewels – enough to save her brother and may even pay her own debt to a crime boss from Edinburgh – but her joy is cut short when the man she pickpocketed finds her, demands the return of his property and takes her captive when she refuses to give it back.

Isaac Hamilton, the Earl of Dunbridge has spent years trying to restore his family fortune after his uncle, the previous earl gambled it all away, and finally, he has done it – he won back the deeds to his ships and his mother’s jewels only to have them stolen on his way back to the inn. Unhappy with the response given by the local constable, Isaac tracks Flora down himself and takes her prisoner when she refuses to return his box. In return, Isaac refuses to let her go and the two of them end up spending a lot of time together. Isaac learns of her “family” lead by William Douglas, the man who found her on the streets as a child and took her in and of her many “brothers and sisters” for who she feels responsible. Isaac promises to help her, but needs her to return his box – Flora wants to believe him, but won’t give up the stolen goods – in her mind, he doesn’t really need the jewels and she isn’t sure she can trust him to save her brother. When a random encounter leads to Flora being invited to the house party Isaac is supposed to attend, things between them take a turn and deeper feelings become evident – but can an earl and thief find a way to be together forever?

I have mixed feelings about this book – the writing is excellent and the story is paced well – but I had a really hard time with Flora, there were just things that didn’t make sense to me and I really disliked her attitude that she needed the things she stole more than Isaac did. I also felt like there were too many characters and sub-plots; it muddied the story and left me with more questions than answers when the story ended – I presume that these questions will be settled in future installments and I need to exercise some patience – but personally, I prefer to have a feeling of closure at the end of a book rather than having to wait for answers in upcoming books. That aside, Isaac is a wonderful hero and the author introduces a lot of interesting secondary characters, the story itself is filled with lies, miscommunications, warm love scenes, villains getting what they deserve, surprises, and of course a HEA. This is the first book in the series and it appears that the future installments will be released in rapid succession, so the wait for answers shouldn’t be a long one.

A whirlwind of turmoil seeds love from where deception & desperation fester!!!
Instant sparks of fascination, captivation and annoyance, fueled from frustrated anger, collide as family responsibilities push Flora and Isaac to desperate measures.
A plot captivating in its heated emotional twists of resilience, resourcefulness and wit as Isaac and Flora attempt to outsmart, resist the allure of intense sexual attraction and the sizzling magnetic draw that keeps pulling them in and ultimately binding them together as fate plays its hand.
This is my first book by Bailey and I must admit to being impressed, emotionally pulled through the ringer, beguilled and ready to get click happy by ordering as many books as I can find by her!
This comes at such a surprise to me because I must admit I wasn't instantly comfortable with the pairs meet. I was struggling with the intense passion/lust fueled atmosphere that radiated from them given their prisoner/captor roles and circumstances. Though, despite this, I kept reading, not just because it was so well written and I loved Bailey's writing style, but, because there was just something about the characters that kept tugging at me and wouldn't leave me alone until I delved deeper. So I was shocked to find just how emotionally invested I would become in their fate. Within a few chapters, I was won over, absorbed and entangled so much I was choked up at the responsibilities and worries they took on for those around them and screaming for them to open up and confide in each other. To the point I had to force myself to read it in installments because I couldn't believe how much Flora's anguish and desperation really cut me deeply making me shed copious tears at her torment, insecurities and feelings of not being good enough despite living so selflessly for others. And for me a mark of a great romance has to be in the bonding you have with the characters and feeling the chemistry that emits between them and this had it in spadefuls.
With the undercurrent of threat, unpredictability of circumstances and the tension between them building from how much they liked each other - while fighting an internal war that was heavily discoloured by misperception, distrust, and a deep yearning to find the other to be good deep down, only forced into a bad situation through a desperation and need to protect loved ones and a willingness to sacrifice all, including themselves, to accomplish it - made this one TRULY ABSORBING READ that I WHOLEHEARTEDLY RECOMMEND!
And with just as much interest and intrigue surrounding an abundance of secondary characters too, I am hoping we get to find the answers to a few deliberate loose threads left untied. Will, Bran, Kate, Isobel, Drostan and even Archie, to name but a few, are just screaming to have their tales told too.

Oh my this is good! Flora meets Isaac when she picks his pocket. He finds her and demands his belongings back. Isaac refuses to let Flora out of his sight until his property is restored, requiring them to both deal intimately with their trust issues. The more time they spend together, the more they fall for each other until a viperous tongued lady tries to force them apart. Meantime, Flora has a crime lord looking for her, and a ship’s captain waiting to punish her brother. The author does a marvelous job with the give and take between these two. Flora’s nurturing is just what Isaac needs to break free from society’s strictures, and his dependability and strength is what Flora needs to feel cherished and worthy. They do make an adorable couple, and lengths they are both willing to go for the ones they love is heartwarming. This is a well written, engaging, story, with wonderful characters, steamy scenes, a few ‘hold your breath’ moments, and several surprises. It is a truly enjoyable read.

This was a great start to a new series. Flora is has taken on the role of mother hen to group of misfits in Scotland. She hates stealing but will do anything to save her "siblings" and turns to pick pocketing in the streets. She meets her match when she ends up taking what turns out to be a jewel filled box from an attractive Englishman, Isaac Hamilton the Earl of Dunbridge. Isaac manages to track her down and demands she return his property and in exchange he will not report her to the authorities. Eventually when a past danger comes back to threaten her, Flora agrees to return the earl's things if he will help her in turn with protection from the crime lord she wronged in the past.

I really enjoyed this one and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series, which I believe features Flora's adopted siblings. Highly recommend checking this one out!

Flora MacGregor isn’t your ordinary thief. This kind-hearted soul has devoted her life —after losing her parents—to helping other children in need who have found themselves out on the cold streets, as she’d experienced. Picking pockets is how she feeds hungry mouths and pays the rent at “Camelot,” where she and the kids reside.

But Flora makes the mistake of picking the wrong pocket, and that man is out to get her and the children if she doesn’t pick another pocket to pay him back. Again, she picks the wrong pocket of Isaac Nathaniel Hamilton, 7th earl of Dunbridge. He’s not about to give up his goods to Flora because what she’s stolen from him, if he does not retrieve the box she’s taken, will leave him and his family destitute.

So the romance and plot begin.

WHAT A WAY TO START A NEW SERIES!! To Have a Highland Thief by Lori Ann Bailey is the first book in the new series Wicked Highland Misfits. I found this book a delight to read and a really good couple to start this series off with a bang. This book is easy to read, has wonderful characters and very original. You get a the real feel of the regency era as well. This story has a thief, picking the wrong person’s pocket, losing everything, paying off debts, treaths, a house party, a nasty debutante, caring for others, hating what they do, protection, being held prisoner, lost family and finding love. I do recommend this book. It was a true joy to read!

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

Great start to a new series.
This is a refreshing take on my fair lady theme and this was such a gem I am so glad I have it. This is one of those books you want to re-read over and over again. Flora is such a wonderful character with a heart of gold true she is a thief but a girl does what she needs to do. Now she is in a bit of trouble but a white knight just may save her. Yes, she took something from him but it was an interesting way to meet Isaac. Isaac is a complete gentleman from start to finish and he had my heart right from the start. I am looking forward to the additional books coming in this series. This well-written story is one I am happy to recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

The story was exciting. It was packed with action and it was easy to keep up with the action.
You can feel the despair in Flora but she is determine to make sure everything works out. Being a thief, she thinks she can accomplish anything she needs to do.
Issac is determined to rebuild his earldom after his uncle almost destroys it. He is enchanted when the little thief takes everything that will give him that chance.
Flora is making him spin in circles trying to get his property back.
You will love this story too.
The characters are well developed and enchanting. I could not put it down. (I didn't want to get up because I read most of the night. It was that good.)

When a female thief steals from an earl and he holds her captive.

I immediately loved Flora and anyone could relate to doing what you have to do to feed others....or perhaps pay debts. But she steals from the wrong person. The box she took and hid away held valuables that could get Isaac his property and home back. And he would do whatever it took to bring this thief around to giving it back. He now could understand why the authorities favored Flora, for his heart was beginning to soften toward her himself.

Good read, I loved the storyline....a female orphaned and caring for an adoptive family even if it meant stealing from the rich's deep pockets.

Flora is tired of being a thief but has no options left as her brother is taken and a debt is held over his head, she has no choice but to continue her life of crime. Flora seizes on a golden opportunity and pickpockets from a wealthy noble named Isaac. Isaac realizing that his valuable item has been stolen by Flora, sets out to teach the thieving vixen a lesson. What he didn't expect was to fall for Flora but sure enough Flora has stolen yet another thing from him, his heart. This was a very engaging story with good characters and I really enjoyed it.

To Have A Highland Thief is book one in Lori Ann Bailey’s new Wicked Highland Misfits series. I loved this romance. The characters are complex and thought-provoking, and Flora and Isaac have lovely chemistry. The story moves at a page-turning pace with surprises along the way. “Her lips landed on his, gentle like the time a butterfly landed on her yellow skirt. She closed her eyes, and the air shifted as the velvet softness of them seeped into her. When she opened them, his blue gaze was riveted on her - confused, then hungry and intense.” I can’t wait to read more.

Flora is a thief. A beautiful thief who doesn’t like stealing, but she will do anything to save her adoptive family of street Urchins. But when she pilfered a box from an English lord, Isaac Nathaniel Hamilton , The 7th Earl of Dunbridge, she got more than she bargained for. Nathaniel needs what’s in the box more than anything to restore his family’s wealth, so when the beautiful thief steals and hides it, a bargain is made for its return. He vows to save them both, and finds love as well. This story is full of adventure and keeps you entertained.

Isaac Nathaniel Hamilton, 7th Earl of Dunbridge, has spent many years in an attempt to regain the family shipping fortune squandered by his gambling uncle. He finally wins the deeds back, just as a captivating Scottish lass bumps into him to take his prize. She won’t to give it back unless he agrees to protect her from a crime lord seeking revenge.

To conceal her at a country estate until the danger has passed, he teaches her to act like a lady. But it doesn’t take long to discover that there is much to admire about the person she already is. Will they learn to trust each other?

I loved this Scottish Highlander romance with great characters, romance and. Her parents lost her in the street when she was young and she and other street children were taken in by a man. She stole to support the group and always thought of others first. One day she robbed a man and he caught her. They started falling for each ither, but there were many com. There were lots of twists and turns, but the ending was great.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Initially, I wanted to rate this 3 stars, but I find Dorstan's reveal at the end and John's end to be well worth an extra star.

This book was well-written and not too bad of a read. Sure, because of it being erotic, their relationship felt more built on sexual attraction than anything else, but I will say that they did have chemistry. What was a shame for me was that at times, I found Flora to be a complete idiot and not the street smart woman the beginning painted her out to be. There was also a lot going on at times.

In any case, it wasn't a bad read.
