“Master Sskeer, we must never demonize our enemies, no matter what atrocities they have committed in the past. They are still living beings.”

This is a nice change from the pace of the first issue. While the first one didn't have any issues this one definitely felt less generic and like filling and it starts to develop a more distinctive and darker style as well as flesh out the plot and it all seems like it's gonna be one heck of a ride.

Trennis is a character I'm liking more and more every time I read about her and see her in action.

It is still very early in the story and we lack the look of a greater picture but the theory juices are flowing and I can't wait to see what it will turn out to be and what shape it will take.

Okay, yeah, mmm, this series seems like it's gonna very juicy and deep. I'm all here for it.

I truly enjoyed this.

Ooooh, just the cover of this issue is making me really excited!

I don't think I can have enough of this new Star Wars era and stories and I'm definitely just enjoying diving into it as much as I have had the opportunity to do. Even more exciting, this issue should start giving us some new content instead of just a little bit more of the same that Light of the Jedi the same way the last issue did.

All that being said, I just want to enjoy some more prime Star Wars content.

Issue #2 of The High Republic once again neatly ties into the events we've gotten to know in Light of the Jedi while also managing to expand the story! Within only 20 pages, we get presented with a LOT of plot, interesting character dynamics and an exciting cliffhanger.
Seeing some familiar faces we know from other stories was a nice surprise and the new characters Ceret and Teret, while not neccessarily being someone I could grow attached to, offer a lot of potential.
The character work in this issue was great - some sequences had me in dismay - and the art was absolutely outstanding, underlining the descent of a certain character perfectly! I also loved the flashback to Sskeer's injury.
I still can't really place what certain characters' roles in the story are going to be but the plot seems to be picking up a lot of pace and it's going into an interesting direction. I for one can't wait for issue #3!

The newly titled Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis, Sskeer, and Kotabi bond-twins Crete and Terec come across a damaged ship in the Kazlin System that came under attack by the Nihil. Keeve, and the other Jedi, sense survivors among the wreckage and board the ship to rescue them. Sskeer seems deeply troubled by the bloody scene they discover and, as Crete explains, appears to be experiencing extreme trauma. Something that was alluded to at the close of the previous issue. (READ MORE: https://yourmoneygeek.com/review-star...)

As the Jedi examine the corpse of a Hutt, a remaining member of the Nihil attacks them and Sskeer slices them in half with his lightsaber in a shockingly violent event. Keeve seems rather unnerved with her Master’s swift kill, which makes me like her more than I already did. What’s been so fascinating with The High Republic is the way that each of the Jedi has their own unique personality, fighting style, and personal code. This is such a deviation from the Jedi that we are familiar with later in the timeline, who seem to operate more uniformly under the Jedi codes.

Throughout the first two issues of The High Republic comic, Keeve seems to be at odds with herself as she tries to find her place among the Jedi Order and as a person. This makes for well-rounded and nuanced characters who are able to change and evolve as we follow their journeys. Keeve’s concern for her Master leads her to call upon Avar Kriss to join them aboard the wreckage.

After Avar arrives, she sends Sskeer and Crete to Sedri Minor, while she and the others recover the Hutt space ship and investigate what occurred there. There is some interesting conversation between Avar Kriss and Master Maru about Sedri Minor, particularly where she notes that the planet is “long overdue for a visit” seeing as there has been little contact with the planet.

When Sskeer and the others land on Sedri Minor, they are met by Sulamn Kalo who states, in no uncertain terms, that the Jedi and the Republic are not welcome in their independent colony. This is a line of discussion that I will pick up on in my review for the third issue of The High Republic comics. “Tomb in Space” closes on a cliffhanger with Crete vanishing into the fauna around their ship.

Overall, the first two issues of Star Wars: The High Republic have been setting up a fascinating story that leaves you ready for the next issues as soon as you finish the first. Cavan Scott weaves a nerve-wracking story that is perfect for fans of more horror-style comic books.

In issue #2 of The High Republic: newly-knighted Jedi Keeve Trennis, along with her master Jedi Skeer and Jedi twins Ceret and Terec, are on a mission to respond to a distress call in the Kazlin system; every inhabitant of the derelict ship has been murdered, but one lone Nihil warrior is left; Skeer kills the Nihil but it triggers a post-traumatic stress flashback; they discover the ship was transporting a special type of grain used in the manufacture of bacta, found on the planet Sedri Minor; Jedis Skeer and Ceret arrive on the planet, but within minutes of arrival, Ceret disappears…

I’m enjoying this series by writer Cavan Scott with artwork by Ario Anindito. It’s fast-paced and fun.

Well, this is good!

And, well, I'm not sure that I have a lot to say about it other that that. I'm not only still getting to know these characters but still getting to know the setting.

I initially though that Terec and Ceret might be annoying, but their unique bond was actually handled very well and I'm curious to...hopefully...see more of them.

It's clear at this point that Skeer is very badly damaged and that things are going to go very badly for him, and his newly knighted apprentice Keeve Trennis is going to get caught up in the fallout of that.

But, beyond that, I'm simply enjoying exploring a new part o the Star Wars universe!

Wow. This issue was a lot better than the last one, which felt more like a generic Saturday morning cartoon. This issue actually gets to the plot and the tone shifts dramatically from a lighthearted typical Disney stuff to some full-blown violence and mental trauma that I didn't expect going in.

In a way, the tonal shift feels kind of inconsistent and I hate the fact that the plot actually begins in this issue and not in the first one. The first issue is just a prologue (which honestly, even if you skip it you won't miss a beat). I do appreciate that this comic has a direction. My biggest fear was that this was going to end up as a typical Jedi adventure-of-the-week kind of thing we've seen a thousand times already.

I'm glad to say that isn't the case, which is why I'm always willing to give first issues a lot of leeway for this very reason. I always reread them after I get a sense of where things are heading and how everything lines up in the storyline.

No spoilers on where the story is heading, but I like the direction and the possibilities are out there. Despite being confused about a lot of what was happening. I read this thing in one sitting, absorbing all I can from the art, the story, the events and it all felt like a dream I had and woke up and could just barely remember what it all was.

If you haven't read Light of the Jedi or A Test of Courage get ready to be lost as hell. I'd say read at least one of those novels before getting into this graphic novel series. The payoff will be worth it.

Having read Light of the Jedi and now the first two comics in this series I am fascinated with this new era of the Jedi they are setting up. I am loving the characters and the storyline with the Nihil so much. I can’t wait to see where they take this!

I really liked that that they got Master Sskeer suffering from PTSD after the events of Light of the Jedi and I really loved the illustrations, Even though It was 22 pages I really really enjoyed reading it and seeing my favourite character! I'm very excited to read the next issue!

So boring and not one of these characters is compelling in any way. If given the choice between watching only the Jar Jar Binks scenes from The Phantom Menace 100 times in a row or reading this book one more time, Mee sa think it’s Binks all day everyday! If you liked it, that’s cool and I’m not going to tell you what to like. I too really wanted to like this series, but sadly I just don’t.

I know that the High Republic was going to be going into unexplored reaches of the Star Wars universe, that readers would discover new worlds and darkness that we've not encountered before; but after the brightness of the first issue, the amount of grandeur and hope there seemed to be around the opening of the Starlight Beacon I wasn't expecting the very next issue to become a horror story.

Following the knighting of Keeve Trennis in the last issue, and the official 'ribbon cutting' of Starlight Beacon we're settling into the daily routine of the Jedi stationed in this remote part of the galaxy, and seeing some of the issues that they'll be dealing with following the Great Disaster.

The issue opens with Trennis, her former master, Sskeer, and the Kotabi bond-twins Ceret and Terec being sent to investigate a distress call, finding a huge debris field in deep space. Finding part of the ruined ship still has an atmosphere the four Jedi board, finding the interior filled with gas and bodies everywhere. It becomes clear to them that this was the result of the Nihil, a group of brutal marauders responsible for the Great Disaster, and the loss of Sskeer's arm.

I knew it wouldn't take long for the Nihil to make an appearance in Star Wars: The High Republic, particularly after the amount of damage they cause in Star Wars: Light of the Jedi and the comic really builds up their their eventual reveal in this issue, using the carnage they'd left behind to build tension and set a very dark tone. It also becomes clear that Sskeer is still suffering from the wounds that he received at the hands of the Nihil, mentally if not physically. I like that we're seeing some fall out from Sskeer's last encounter with the Nihil being explored here. His physiology means that his arm will regrown, but it was still an incredibly traumatic experience, and I could be wrong, but it might have even been made worse for him due to being a Trandoshan.

Every other Trandoshan I've seen in Star Wars are written as aggressive, as hunters who live for the kill, and show little sympathy for anyone who crosses their path; something that is opposite to every Jedi teaching. It could be that Cavan Scott is going to use his trauma as a gateway to explore the dichotomy of his Trandoshan heritage and the Jedi way. It seems to be a possible scenario, as later in the issue he comes across a Nihil left behind on the ship and seems to lose control. His eyes seem to lose their pupils, and Sskeer enters a rage, cutting his foe down without mercy. It's a shocking moment, and one that's incredibly effective.

Another shocking moment comes shortly before this, when Keeve and Ceret discover that the ship was a Hutt transport, finding a Hutt dead. It's a stunning splash page that sells the brutality and horror of the Nihil, with the room filled with gas and fire, the Hutt's guards dead around it, some hanging from the ceiling, whilst the Hutt is filled with blaster holes and deep gashes. We know that despite looking like giant slugs the Hutts are formidable opponents not to be taken lightly, especially when surrounded by their guard. This image makes it incredibly clear that the Nihil are going to be a serious threat, one that will take more than Force powers and light sabres to tackle.

Even when leaving the dark confines of the Hutt's ship and moving the action to the bright farm world of Sedri Minor the book manages to keep the chills coming, with something strange and terrifying living in the large corn-like stalks. Something that is able to spirit Ceret away without Sskeer realising. It's one thing to make a dark spaceship full of dead bodies frightening, but a sunny farm? That's impressive.

And that's probably the word I'd most use to describe this issue. Impressive. It took the bright and shiny promise of the first issue, of this new setting and flipped things completely, showing a much darker side to this setting and putting our heroes immediately on the back foot. It managed to not just set up a new mystery for the Jedi to investigate, but established the brutality of the Nihil, and gave several characters moments of development. Even characters new to the comic like Ceret and Terec were given enough of the spotlight that by the time it was done I had a good sense of who they were, how their bond works, and why I should care about them.

It's not just down to the writing though, though the writing is brilliant, but the fantastic work of the art team. Artist Ario Anindito, inker Mark Morales, and colourist Annalisa Leoni come together to breath so much life into the book. This issue we get to see the inside of the team's transport, the Starlight Beacon, the Hutt ship, and Sedri Minor, and they all have their own look and feel. They're distinct locations, sometimes with hugely contrasting looks, and some of the work elevates the story to new heights. The previously mentioned page where you see the dead Hutt is such a triumph of this team coming together that it's an image that's going to stick with me long after I've read more issues.

If Star Wars: The High Republic manages to maintain this level of quality, this is going to be one of the best parts of the Star Wars universe.

Ookay...

All right, so the previous issue introduced a good character in an interesting way. Despite Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm Story Group's agenda-driven style, story was placed ahead of "wokeness" and we got a good issue. Now we have the follow up and let's see if the trend has continued...

Hmmm...

So, the good news is that story still comes ahead of agenda. Now Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis is still herself; mannerisms and endearing characteristics are intact. She is on her first mission as a Knight with her mentor Sskeer and a duo of Jedi Knights that are members of an intriguing species wherein they share more than DNA, they also share a mind. Picture one person stretched across two people who are understandably alike but also slightly different.

Their mission pits them against the Nihil but not 100% directly, opening up a mystery involving the Nihil's target, its origin, and even a little bit of political intrigue with the indigenous people's reception of the Jedi and the Republic on the frontier. Good stuff.

Alas, it is not without problems and it raises some concerns. In the issue a character deals with past trauma, is exposed to negative feelings and is unhinged as a result. The trauma and even an explanation of this person's actions are fleshed out in one of the novels. The author and illustrator attempt to ease the transition with a few panels of art and some inner monologue, but it still feels sudden since none of the trauma and its impact has been referenced in this comic series before. That's the problem, here is the concern...

I've read the other available material from The High Republic and I've noticed a trend where males have issues dealing with aggression. In works from four different authors, somewhere in the story, a male Jedi gets aggro and suffers as a result. I can sense the Story Group and Darth Kennedy behind it as none of the females seem to have this problem. I hope this goes away.

Otherwise, the issue is a good follow up and I can't wait to see what happens next...

”I’ve been on missions before. Dozens of misssions. There was only one difference back then. I was a padawan. Now I’m a Jedi Knight, and everyone will be watching. My old master will be watching. They’ll be expecting great things. But that’s fine. The Force is with me. I am one with the Force. Blah blah blah.”

Keeve Trennis is on her first mission as a Jedi Knight. She is joined by her former master Sskeer and a very unique twin duo, Ceret and Terec, who pretty much share one brain together. They are answering a distress call, hoping to help but when they arrive on the scene, all they find is destruction and death that might just have something to do with the Nihil.

This issue was strong, just like the first one. I am very intrigued by this series, its characters and I can't wait to see where the story will go. Keeve is a very cool character - funny and capable as well as bothered by self-doubt and awkwardness - as is Sskeer, who is definitely battling some inner demons. Terec and Ceret were strange, but I am intrigued by them and their unique bond. I also just love getting more content with Avar Kriss, cause she is one of my favorite High Republic characters. And one thing that I have to say made me way happier than I thought it would was seeing Vernestra Rwoh from A Test of Courage - I liked her while reading the book but I don't think I'd realised how much I liked her til she appeared in this comic and I was literally grinning with happiness to see her again, even though she was there but a very short time.

So, yeah, I'm really enjoying this series so far, can't wait to continue! And also, the art is fabulous!

This is getting really good.

Excelent second issue, i liked the first one but this one was way better. The plot keeps getting interestig and it's very nice to see characters from other stories. It seems they are gonna connect everything in this era (books and comics) and i can't wait to see how they manage.

There're a couple of new characters introduced (Twins), i iked them. I wouldn't say "their thing" is original but i think they have potential. Sskeer is rapidly becaoming my favourite character of this High Republic era, i don't know if what's happening to him is gonna be super important for the plot or is just gonna be a thing that happened and that's all, but i'm liking him a lot.

Overall, better than issue #1. The story is good and i'm already a fan of this series.

The internal monologuing is still obnoxious (during the first half, in particular), but there's much less of it in this installment than it was in the opening issue.

In addition, the plot has thickened and I am much more excited for issue #3 than I was for this one at the end of Issue #1. The mystery behind Sskeer's unraveling is getting more intriguing and a pair of fun new characters were introduced. Avar Kriss was more interesting here as well.

Overall, a big improvement over issue #1 and even though I have yet to love this comic, I like it more than I did at first.

This issue was better than the last one. At least there was a creepy tentacle in a corn field. I think the problem is that Disney doesn’t get the religion & myth that fueled Star Wars. So far this is just stuff that happens to characters I want to care about but don’t.

Actually, I just realized that this series feels more like Deep Space Nine than Star Wars. Big round space station, mostly all new characters with one or two oldie, but goodies (ok, just Yoda) showing up, not much happens. Remember how long it took for DS9 to get ahold of you? Took me a while.

This did a good job at washing the bad taste of "Test of Courage" out of my mouth, nicely back on the path of the lightside of the High Republic. I can't tell you how overjoyed I am that they've got a good artist, Ario Anindito, on this book. A flagship title like this shouldn't be dragged down with mediocre art, like the main Star Wars Marvel title has on and off, and this doesn't disappoint with its vivid and dynamic art.

A Light of the Jedi elolvasása után sokkal inkább érdekes már a High Republic környezete és a két új szereplő megjelenése is sokat dob az egészen. Először azt hittem ők lesznek az aktuális "droidok", de szerencsére nem ez történt. Várom a folytatást.

I was sooooooo bored in issue 1, but like most things in life, I'm glad I tried issue 2 Anyone that lives by the "first impressions are important" philosophy , these are the worst people (I'm looking at you mom, jk, youre the best)

Anyways this is a fast read with good intrigue, and Scott is doing a good job of introducing foreign characters in an established universe. Hoping this series doesn't lose momentum and that my love of this issue isn't just a result of post May the 4th hangover

It had me on the edge of my seat

As always beautiful illustrations, this issue's storyline complemented were we left off in the previous issue. The storyline was interesting, we met new characters and saw some familiar face. Also finally we some characters in illustration form. The great thing about comics you get to see this era coming to life.

This issue was so good. I’m really impressed with all the High Republic material so far. I love seeing the characters pop up across the material, it’s great. The art in this issue was really good. The story, wasn’t too bad either. The mystery surrounding one of the main characters has me curious about what he’s up to. I was a little confused one two of the characters were referred to as we and they... but it’s revealed that they are twins that shared one mind, it’s a little odd, but works. The book ends with a solid tease that has me wanting book 3.

A lot of interesting things occur in this issue. The Jedi get a closer look at the Nihils individual raids and learn they attack anyone not just republic targets. On top of that the seeds of darkness seem to be planted in one our main characters and I've already begun to wonder how it may play out for this character.

Great comic book, great Star Wars story

Love the characters and even though I was a bit dubious about going so far back to the high republic, I’m loving the story. As a long time (saw Star Wars a new hope in the theatre) Star Wars fan who also loves the new trilogy & other shows like clone wars & rebels I’m pleasantly surprised and absolutely hooked.

A vast improvement from issue one. Compelling story. Interesting characters and decent artwork. I'm finding The Trandoshan Jedi Sskeer to be the most interesting character in this comic book series so far more than Keeve Trennis who is the main character of this comic book series. I can't wait for issue three.
