The King's Ranger #3

Remove the Shroud

Rate this book
A ranger’s duty. The rotten heart of a king. Rebellion spilled from the blood of family.

Having fled Spinesend following a calamitous encounter atop one of the city’s towers, Rew and his companions face a long journey across a dangerous land to the city of Carff, the seat of Prince Valchon. The treacherous spellcaster Alsayer fled there, along with Kallie Fedgley, but finding them without attracting the murderous gaze of the prince might be impossible.

During the journey, Rew and the others uncover sadistic plots by the princes against each other, and they garner the attention of the king himself. The younglings must sharpen their skills for what is to come, and Rew must command the courage to finally face his past.

In the third book of the King’s Ranger series, the shroud of secrecy around the king, his sons, and the terrible necromancy that has kept the family in power is yanked away. The Investiture is just the beginning of a terrible truth that endangers all who know it. The stakes are revealed, and failure means an eternity of damnation.

Wahrheit is a classic epic fantasy adventure. It is packed full of political intrigue, epic battles, spies & assassins, ancient magic, a little humor, a young man and woman against impossible odds, and dragons. If you liked AC Cobble's other books, you will love this series.

The King's Ranger is a clean, action-packed adventure. Rew, the titular ranger, wants only to manage the wilderness he is responsible for, but the arrival of three youths in his jail cell force him to embark on an epic journey. To protect the youths, he's forced to confront a darkness in his past and join a swirling conflict that will envelope the entire kingdom.

Benjamin Ashwood is AC's take on the classic farm boy with a sword fantasy story. It starts much like they all do, but in Ben's world like the real world, heroes are made not born, and the good guys don't always win. Try it today and find out why this series has sold hundreds of thousands of copies!

The Cartographer is a little sexier and a little darker, but has the same sense of fun and adventure as Benjamin Ashwood. Think world spanning travel and exploration, occult rituals, dark seductresses, bodies dropping like flies, and bar fights. Fans of Rhys will love Oliver and Sam. Join the adventure today!

Omg omg omg!!! The ending of this book made me scream out loud. The reveal of the secret (well part of it at least) was done so well. Not thrown in the reader's faces but revealed in such a subtle manner that once I realized what had happened I was in shock.

Throughout the past three books, we see a lot of hints regarding what this secret is, and I had started to have some sort of idea what the secret was but never to the extent it actually was.

I honestly am so mad at myself for not waiting for the series to be finished before picking it up. I really enjoyed this book and I am very eagerly waiting for the fourth book in this series to come out.

Alright, It's getting ridiculous. In times of great crisis, in times of great need, and in times of great danger to oneself, there are virtually no homosexuals. Homosexuals generally come from the most prosperous societies, and the whole "the lesbian turns down the alpha male in favor of wanting to.... do something with a woman" is ridiculous. It doesn't exist even now and this narrative in modern story telling either shows an agenda or ignorance.

This author chooses the first chapter of the third book to push this nonsense. No, homosexuality is not this prevalent, and, yes, in history when times are perilous people tend to think in terms of procreation. If you want to be gay, be gay, but the fact that these totally nonsensical societal paradigms are constantly pushed is ridiculous, and shows that they need to be lobbied for to continue.

Please focus on writing a good story. If you want to talk about someone being gay or incredibly adventurous in their sex life in the height of ancient Rome by the highest of society, that makes perfect sense. Why can't you come to terms with it? It most likely would never have occurred to the people in this society to even think about homosexuality.

Why does everything have to include this? Is it because you can't write a coherent story and will get some woke points by saying that a character randomly wants women in a tale about dangerous times.

These authors are just woke fools spinning the same stories with woke sprinkles. Michael Manning, gone, and now AC Cobble. Who will be next?

What a cliffhanger!

Another excellent read from AC Cobble. The 3rd book, and continuation of Rew’s story, was riveting from the beginning. Anyone that has been following this storyline, knows we are quite in the middle, and in suspense of what comes next. I am one of the fortunate few that gets to read the books before they are released to the public. And then I always buy the audiobook to listen to as soon as it is released. If you have not caught up on the story I strongly suggest you do so. It is an enjoyable and action packed read. I’ve said it before, but I will say again that I enjoy this particular storyline because it focuses on the lives of more mature characters. The interactions between all the characters relatable. Aside from the fact that very few of us actually wield magic....Nor are we a part of a murderous, traitorous, and backstabbing family. Well maybe that part is more relatable than others. Anyways, ignore my rambling. Just read the books. They are great.

Damn it. It finished too soon.

There's never a dull book from AC Cobble. I mean up until the last page I was reading-fast, not to get to the end, mind you, but to find out what would happen next. It was the same with Ben Ashwood series.

And then while I am reading and reaching for the next part (I hadn't realized I was nearing the book's end) there it was - thank you for reading.

Gaaaaawd! Awesome read and I can't wait to read the next book. I have gone through this writer's books faster than he could write them. In the last 2 years I have read all his books and can't wait for more of them.

Amazing world building, mentor swordsmen and women, young people guided by logical thinking men and women, the despicably frightening creatures, magic and mystery, political machinations and intrigue, a bit of romance - his books have it all.

Tiresome

Battles, betrayals, fighting and more insinuations. Finally, the secret is revealed (and I had guessed correctly) but this book didn’t have it’s own plot arc and the character growth felt forced. You know no story is minus one star from me. The cliffhanger at the end subtracts the other star.
Will I read on? I haven’t decided. Maybe I’ll skip to book six.
If you’re interested in what happens, skip to the last chapter. I tells you almost everything you need to know.

Wow, what a read! This genre is not my usual but I have to say I didn't want the story to end. But no worries as Rew, ranger from the Eastern Kingdoms has many more battles to fight as he travels with his ragged entourage to fight the evil king and princes! And finally we find out what Rews connection is to this family and why he's been hiding away.

Great book!

AC Cobble’s development of both the characters and the world they live in is stellar. While most fantasy books all have recurring themes, this series has interesting and diverse characters, and the story has twists and turns that keep you riveted. Can’t wait for book 4!

This is book 3 of 6 in the series ... so, of course, it has an incomplete ending. I am not a big fan of political intrigue, and this book was chock-full of all kinds of politics and back-stabbing. I will be reading the next book in the series to find out what happens next ... and I am also invested in the characters in the story so I want to know what eventually happens to all of them.

Totally satisfying

Been reading this series where each new book leaves you on tenterhooks and the ending leaves you gasping. This does not disappoint. The final reveal just confirms what I guessed and I can't wait for the next book. Darn good read.

Great ‘Chapter’

Always a pleasure to get back into one of Mr Cobbles tales. I waited until all (I hope) of the Kings Ranger ‘chapters’ have been cooked.

Great tale, well told and I’m really enjoying it.

Rew has bowed to the inevitable and is now going to do his part in the Investiture. The group is heading towards one of the 3 princes and Rew plans on ending him.
The alleged "big reveal" is something I was already sure of before the end of the first book.

Good Story

First book was clearly 5 stars. Story is now moving slowly. Not sure I will read further. This seems like a 10 book series.

Saw it coming

But the action has been enjoyable. Looking forward to learning why Rew eschews the Empath’s help. Shame or something else?

Gripping at the end

Rew is like Jack Reacher in a fantasy world. He tried to do the right thing while batteling evil in many forms. The character development is well done

A good read.

Not sure about loyalties of some characters. Unsure about abilities of some people. Suspicious of bronze enchanted armour. Compelling action.
