Remembering Ivy

Rate this book
After putting her life on hold to care for her dying father, Ivy Nichols feels stuck. Alone and disconnected, she’s struggling to pick up the pieces and move forward.

The mysterious William Cole walks into her life, like a beacon of light in a fog. He’s sensual and captivating—awakening Ivy in ways she’s never experienced before.

But he knows things about her—deeply personal things—that he shouldn’t. His explanation is impossible, but the alternatives are worse. Her friends insist he’s either a con artist, or he’s crazy.

With her heart on the line, Ivy has to decide who—and what—she believes. The rational explanation from her trusted friends? Or the impossible story from the man without a past? The man who swears he will do anything to protect her.

One thing she is sure of—William doesn’t just know facts about her life. He knows her, inside and out. He knows her as intimately as if he’d spent every moment of his life loving her.

And, according to him, he has.

***Remembering Ivy is a stand-alone contemporary romance with a hint of mystery, and ends with a HEA. Contains mature language and content and is intended for mature readers.***

“When I’d forgotten everything else, I remembered her, I remembered Ivy.”

Rembering Ivy is a brand new book by Claire Kingsley. I’ve read several of Claire’s books now but when I read the synopsis of this one, I was completely shocked. I’ve never read anything like this before!

Dr. Ivy Nichols is a literature professor at Woodward College. Ivy loves teaching but after caring for and then losing her father, she has felt like she lost a part of herself. She doesn’t feel connected like she used to. She has her best friend and her best friend’s husband to hang out with but most often prefers to be at home with her white german shepherd, Edgar.

woman and her white german shepherd

Ivy doesn’t date. She thought she had found her forever man once but he didn’t hang around when things got rough when she was caring for her father. A man from the office building of her financial advisor has been making efforts at talking to her but she wasn’t sending out any signals of being interested. But when urged by her friend to get back into the dating pool, she tries. Except she still doesn’t feel anything. Until she laid eyes on someone new. Someone whose eyes held her captive. A man named William Cole.

“He drew me in, as if something in him beckoned to something deep inside me. I’d never experienced this feeling before, and I wasn’t sure what it meant.”

man painting

William doesn’t have a past. He can’t remember anything from beyond about a year ago, except that he heard Ivy’s beautiful voice in his head. He knew he had to find her, and that he needed to protect her. From what, he had no idea, only that his purpose was to be her protector. He knows things about her life, personal things that he could have no way of knowing.

William is completely honest with Ivy about what he feels he has to do. It should have scared Ivy away. You see things like this on the news that never turn out well. But when she looked at William, when he touched her, she felt everything she had been missing. She felt flutters, she felt alive, he felt like home.

“How could he be the source of so much confusion, and yet feel so good?”

“Regardless of everything that had happened, this was where I wanted to be. With William.”

As William and Ivy embark on their journey together, their bond strengthens. Deep down, Ivy does want to know where William came from, to make sure he doesn’t have a wife and children somewhere that he doesn’t remember. But even if they never find out who he is, she knows that her place is meant to be with him.

“He would forever be my protector, and I would forever be his love.”

ivy covered wall

This book! I am getting butterflies just writing this review. William had such absolute faith in what he felt, that his only purpose was Ivy. He didn’t need to know why. All that mattered was Ivy. I had so many quotes highlighted that I am having the hardest time deciding which ones to include in this review. The author kept me invested through every page. Never once did I lose interest. I was trying to put myself in this author’s place writing this book! It must have been so scary, writing something so different from anything she has put out before. Or, maybe like William, she just knew that this was a story that she needed to write. I’m so glad I had the chance to read it. I hope you will too.

“You were always meant to be mine.”

“I was absolutely certain heaven existed. And I’d found it here, with Ivy.”

5 stars!

Absolutely loved this one! I think once a while I just need something sweet and tender and dam romantic that just leaves my heart fluttering. "Remembering Ivy" was that book! The story was refreshing at least for me, at first I thought it was going to be one of those fantastical kinda of books but I was surprised how at the end everything made sense and fell into place.

I loved both Ivy and Will their connection was just so lovely I admit the way they met was unusual especially from Will's part but Ivy was open minded and follow her heart. What I loved most about this book was how Ivy was presented with two different situations one that appeared normal logical but made her feel nothing. The other seemed crazy, unusual even creepy (to other people) but she felt everything and even with doubts she chose to follow her heart. And will, he was just amazing so sweet, sexy and protective of Ivy, and he was always so honest with her. A beautiful story of love, destiny, of two people that find each other in the most unexpected circumstances and realize nothing is impossible when it comes to the power of love.
This was my first book by Claire Kingsley and I'm looking forward to reading of her books.❤️

“ We loved with a love that was more than love."
- Edgar Allan Poe

This book felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the very similar ordinary books I have come across lately.

William and Ivy have an unusual love story and if you need to rationalize everything, maybe this book will not appeal to you that much.

I need rationale in the stories I read, too. I mean I need to see that things make sense one way or another. I need explanations. I don’t like open-ends etc.

However, at the same time, I am also a hopeless romantic, so if you give me a fairy tale nicely wrapped up, I would happily buy it 😊

***********************************************

The story of Ivy and William had a bit of a touch of “unbelievable” in it.

Have you ever felt that you met someone in an unexpected place or time and realized later that this person really needed to come to your life?

Have you ever seen a dream and then experienced it coming true?

Or have you ever felt déjà vu?

Have you ever felt strong dislike for someone you have just met or have you ever had an unknown pull towards someone you know nothing about?

How about your pets? Has your dog ever barked at a stranger that he didn’t like but let another stranger pet him because he felt he was harmless?

Do you believe in heightened senses? Blind faith or instincts that don’t make much sense?

If you believe in this kind of things, then, go for this book; I am sure you will enjoy their story.

The plot:

A beautiful man with dark hair and mesmerizing blue eyes comes into Ivy’s life, saying he was sent to protect her. He doesn’t know by whom, he just knows!

William looks simultaneously innocent and dangerous.

A total enigma!

***********************************************

He has only a memory of about 9 months of his life and he doesn’t remember anything else before that.

He stalks Ivy everywhere and acts like he is her guardian angel.

***********************************************

At first, I questioned Ivy’s sanity when she wasn’t afraid of him. He had a really strange story about how he found her and why he needs to protect her.

Normally, one would question a person’s mental health if he talks like William. Although Ivy didn’t question much, her friends, the police officers and the doctors in the mental hospital all questioned his sanity.

However, Ivy felt safe with him and she had this blind faith in him. That wasn’t a clever thing to do but she felt that way. The fact that he knows a lot of things about Ivy – things no one else knows – made it easy for her to believe his strange story.

Ivy and William are drawn to each other in an unusual way and they easily fall in love with each other. There is a strong bond between them from the very beginning. I even thought they were reincarnated soul mates – they were that instantly drawn to each other!

***********************************************

The mystery of who William is, how he has found Ivy and why he needs to protect her all make this book a real page turner. I had a hard time stopping reading it to do anything else.

All along, I had constantly changing guesses and I feared that it was never going to be explained in a way that would make sense to me but I can say I am %70-80 happy with the end result.

I would have preferred one of my own guesses to come true in the end and then, I would have given it 5 stars (well, sorry, but I can’t help it, mine was really better) but its original ending worked for me, anyways. It left a few questions in my mind, though, as to “How?” – but I am OK with it... kinda :)

As I said, I still believe in 398.2 and I still love them, so sue me 😊

HEY, DON’T MISS!

There is a bonus epilogue you can receive by e-mail if you sign up for the writer’s newsletter! I did, and I liked reading more of Ivy & William.

SAFETY:

- No cheating
- No rape or any other kind of dark elements

“Have you been following me?”
“Yes.”
“Wait, did you just say yes?”
“Yes, I have been following you.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re Ivy.”

***

“Stop defending your stalker. You’re already halfway to Stockholm syndrome.”
“I am not,” I said. “That requires kidnapping or a hostage situation.”

***

James blinked. “I’m sorry. Did you say this is Ivy?”
“Yes,” William said.
“The Ivy?” James asked.
“Of course,” William said.

***

The truth was, I’d allowed myself to overlook the impossibility of his story for one simple reason: I liked him.

From the first time we’d met, I’d been taken with him. Not just the mystery of who he was, although that had been enticing in the beginning.

He drew me in. For the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel alone.

Had I allowed my attraction to him to overshadow my good judgment? Was I willing to ignore the warning signs because I didn’t want to see the truth? I honestly didn’t know.

And the worst part was, I’d fallen for him. This went well beyond attraction, physical or otherwise.

***

“You’re allowing him to believe that you are, in fact, the Ivy of his imagination.”
“I am his Ivy,” I said.

“They think you’re dangerous,” I said.
“I’m only a danger to someone who’s a threat to you,” he said.

A man knows an ally when he sees one, and apparently a dog does, too. A smart dog like Edgar does, anyway.

Very sweet and beautiful love story with a touch of mystery.
A bit creepy at the beginning, but then it made sense.
Some small things felt a bit too odd, but I won't complain.

Overall a touching story with a good message.

What a unique, sweet and touching story. William is absolutely swoon worthy. His love for Ivy is so pure. And Ivy is so sweet and loyal and kind. The extended epilogue was icing on the cake. I think this is my first read by this author but definitely won’t be my last.

If a man tells me that he has been stalking me and knows where I live, I would run for the hills, calling the police at the same time while running out of breath, you see I'm not much of a runner so I'll definitely be out of breath or I would be dying of a heart attack, anyway I found the hero adorable and he plain out told the heroine right away that he was stalking her so he didn't hide anything from her.
This book was sweet and had me entranced, I didn't want to put it down.
I kept wondering how the hero knows so much about the heroine. I had plenty of theories, it was none of them.

Safe.

I have so many mixed feelings after reading this story...
The concept intrigued me and I was more than eager to read it as soon as I found it..
It was a safe sweet romantic read and the theme had an originality.

Ivy was a flat character and slightly uninteresting and I wasn’t convinced of her feelings.
There was a great mystery surrounding William which was never solved - even in the end clarifications were lacking.

There were parts that I liked in this story but also some that were either tiring or confused me and still do...

“When I’d forgotten everything else, I remembered her. I remembered Ivy.”

“Whatever brought us together, it was for a reason. Because I was meant to be yours, and you were meant to be mine. And maybe someday we’ll know more, and maybe we won’t. But that doesn’t really matter. The only thing that matters is that I love you, and I need you in my life.”

- Who is the Hero? William Cole, Age: not sure , Occupation: not sure
~ William has no recollection of anything before his fierce purpose to find and save Ivy. He’s a good guy and not concerned with trying to figure out his past (if he even has one).

- Who is the Heroine? Ivy Nichols, Age: late 20’s, I think, Occupation: literature professor at Woodward College
~ Ivy has a protective dog name Edgar who doesn’t like many people and she often quotes books/authors. A little about Ivy….
”dad had passed away almost a year ago. Although I was coping with the grief of losing him, I was having a hard time restarting my life. When he was first diagnosed, I’d dropped everything to take care of him. Quit my job. Gave up my apartment. Moved home.”

Plot overview:
~ “Have you been following me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re Ivy.”

Once it was established William had been following Ivy, she had some questions.
~ “What kind of man would follow me around, and then introduce himself as if he hadn’t been doing anything strange? And his explanation was that he was looking out for me? Because I was Ivy? What did that mean?

So here is where the reader has to put aside reality because any normal girl would most likely freak out knowing she is being followed. However, Ivy isn't all that concerned.
~ “Once again, I had to acknowledge that everything about this should be alarming—but wasn’t. He’d admitted to following me, and that should have thrown up red flags all over the place. But I wasn’t concerned. I was intrigued. More than intrigued, I was fascinated. Who was this man?

Thankfully William is a good guy because it turns out Ivy might be in danger and he’s the only one who can truly save her.

~ You realize this is all impossible?”
“Why?” he asked.
“Because people aren’t sent to save other people by mysterious unknown forces for reasons they don’t understand,” I said.
“How do you know that?”
“I… well, because I do. Everyone knows that. Some things are real, and some things aren’t. That’s the way the world is.”
“No one understands all the mysteries of the world,” he said.

~ “I didn’t need to know how or why. I was his, and he was mine. He would forever be my protector, and I would forever be his love.”

** The following are my thoughts about this book: **
* * this has a paranormal feel. I liked that because it kept me guessing about William and his purpose.

* * This book had something different and it really separated itself from the ordinary tropes out there.

* * I loved the way the story came together in the end. It wasn’t a scenario I was envisioning, but it was in the realm of possibility.

* * pace was good and I was eagerly flipping pages to get the next clue about who William was.

* * the bad guy was predictable, but that was ok because they weren’t really the focus.

* * I loved both Ivy and William. I was happy that Ivy was the type of character who was open to things that couldn’t necessarily be explained and was supportive and protective of William.

**Overview:**
- Content Warning: nothing major
- Setting: Seattle
- POV: Ivy’s POV. Normally this would bother me, but there was intentional mystery surrounding William, so it made sense that we didn’t get his POV. The epilogue was from William’s POV.
- Tropes: amnesia, the unexplained
- Hero likeable? yes. I loved William. He had a soft heart and an easy going attitude. I added him to my book boyfriend list ❤️
- heroine likeable? Yes. Ivy was the type of heroine I would like to be friends with in real life
- h virgin? No, but Hero possibly was
- First time they kiss: 36%
- First time they sleep together: 49%
- Safe sex? No condoms used
- First time they say I Love You 51%

- Chemistry? Ivy and William had more than just sexual chemistry, they felt deeply connected
- OW/OM drama? a little bit of OM drama
- H/h cheat? No
- Time apart? No
- Did I skip pages? No
- Big secrets? yes. No one knew Williams full story. It was revealed late in the book

Quotes:
“You have a guy stalking you and now you’re having coffee with him and telling your best friend that he’s nice. Did you hit your head over the weekend?”

“Your voice is the music that plays constantly in my mind. Your name is the first thing I think of every morning, and the last thing I think of every night. There isn’t much that I’m sure of in this world, but I’m sure of this. You are why I’m here.”

“It was almost as if William saw something I couldn’t yet see, and he was simply waiting for me to catch up. I wondered what I’d find when I got there.”

“You see me. You see every part of me, right down to the core of who I am.”

I am a big fan of Claire Kingsley so I thought this would be a slam-dunk read for me.
Unfortunately I found myself skimming a lot with this one, mainly due (I think) to the somewhat puzzling story line. It failed to hold my interest. Also an inability to relate well to the main characters further affected my enjoyment of this book. It did have a great ending however.
Just wasn't really my cuppa of tea but do love this author and I remain open to other new books by her.

“I know you,” he said. “My mind is full of you. Not just your name and your voice, but who you are.”

The beginning was strange but despite that, you can't help but love William. So honest, earnest and endearing. He was upfront with her from the start even if things were outside the realm of explainable. He never lied and that made me loved him.

"Everyone who's touched you or held you. Who thought, even for a moment, that they could call you theirs. Because you weren't. You were always meant to be mine."

Ivy is also a very likeable heroine. They are perfect for each other.

A unique take on amnesia themed romance!

I love this. This book is so much more than romance and i swear i got chills while reading. Its also best to go in blind.. so no skipping!

Ivy, a college professor, happens to meet William one day in a coffee shop and is instantly attracted to this mysterious man. William got into a terrible accident sometime ago and experienced memory loss. He couldn't remember anything other than waking up in a park and needing to save a lady named Ivy. The events that follow truly blew my mind and all i can say is that William's love for Ivy is simply magical. He knows things and secrets about Ivy yet hes unable to explain how these visions got in his mind.

"Maybe he hadn’t appeared on this planet out of nowhere, a man with no past, his mind filled with images of a woman named Ivy—the woman he’d been created to protect. He was just a man who’d grown up in Alaska. Who’d followed his instincts and left his hometown."

Ivy and William are soulmates. A truly beautiful and magical love story that got me captivated since the first chapter 😭 5 stars!

One word to describe this book...Breathtaking!

Ivy is a college professor. She is lonely. One day suddenly a beautiful stranger starts stalking her. When she confronts him he says that he has come to protect her. He knows a lot of things about Ivy that no one knows. Who is he? Is he an Angel? Or is he after her recently acquired money (Inheritance)?

From the very first words to the very last, this story has completely consumed and captivated me. When I wasn't reading this because I had some other boring household things to do I was constantly thinking of it. What would happen next?

I fell in love with both Ivy and William.
They were both such amazing characters, so strong, and so devastatingly heartbroken. My heart ached for William❤️.

This is how I picturised William :

I don't remember much about the story, just that there were stalking and memory loss and the MCs were both decent people. I think the book was ok, but I struggled to finish it, and now I'm struggling to remember it ... Sorry Ivy!

This was totally different than anything Claire has written before. I *loved* it!

Who IS William? Trying to figure that out right along with Ivy was thrilling. Something about him was and remains otherworldly and I just lapped up every second.

One thing that stayed consistent to her usual work was the romance. No matter what direction the plot takes in every one of Claire’s books you can count on swooning. This book was no exception.

I LOVED this book! Ivy was a wonderful heroine, but William... Lordy, I LOVED William Cole. He was enigmatic, devoted, protective, childlike in some ways but all man, and really like no other hero I've ever known. I loved his single-minded belief and love for Ivy, and ached when his heart was broken and confidence shaken. The whole story was unusual in the very best way, and I was fascinated to see how it was going to work out. The explanations at the end made perfect sense--as much as they could under the circumstances--and the ending was very satisfying.

Starting with His Heart, Claire Kingsley has transcended her earlier books and gone to an entirely different level. Remembering Ivy is very different from His Heart, and yet they both touch on some very different inexplicable and daring ideas of love. I am absolutely hooked by this new trend of hers.

For your own sake, don't hesitate to read this book! You'll be so glad you did.

I loooved this book to pieces up until the 80% mark.

This is one of these books that you need to go into completely blind.

Remembering Ivy started out perfectly- there’s romance, mystery and 2 very likeable characters.
The reader is left with the question- who is William Cole? How does he know what he knows?
And especially this mystery is what I loved about this story.

Unfortunately the answer to these questions was like a huge cool down after a great build up- so not what I expected and sorry if I say this, but it was somewhat ‚meh‘ and yeah, I didn’t like it.
I also found the end was way too rushed- quite disappointing after how perfect everything felt up until 80%.

3 stars- I would have loved to give 5 if it were for a different turn of the story.

“Have you been following me?” she asks - “Yes I have” he says with a half smile - “why?” she asks – “because you’re Ivy” he answers seriously. These are the few words that set off the little spark that will turn into a fire between Ivy and William. Ivy has been trying to start living again after losing her father from a horrible disease. She is confident that she will find the right guy but she is not quite ready for it to happen. William comes into Ivy’s life unannounced, he just happens to be there every time she ends up in a place, so she is quite perplexed and asks herself if he’s a stalker. But how can a gorgeous and sweet guy be a stalker, she thinks. At the end it will turn out that William will be her forever after and who cares if he hasn’t a past he can’t remember because William is her soul mate and nothing will come between them. I admit, I really had difficulties writing a review. I would have liked to write more and more but I wouldn’t forgive myself if I gave away so many spoiler alerts to the story. I’m convinced that each and every reader must solely appreciate a good book without any influence by the outside world, it should be a moment of reverence towards a story that needs to be treated with utter respect. So Claire has written another story that has left me speechless. How she does it, is a complete mystery to me. What I’m certain about is that every book she writes always contains a topic so dear to us women. All her characters are real and the story flows pleasantly letting the time pass without realizing it. What would I really give to have another William like Ivy has in my life, a man from another time, someone who is always there and who will protect you against the evil. This is by no doubt one of those books that need to be grabbed and read without hesitation. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of the book.

This was a sweet read--a little boring at times--but sweet. It picked up toward the last 75% and I got a lot more interested.

William has amnesia, but he's convinced he was put here to save Ivy's life and fall in love. He paints things from her past which seem to confirm some type of paranormal aspect.... not. We are left to draw our own conclusions until the author nicely wraps everything up and we find a logical explanation for pretty much everything but one. I was fine with it. It made sense and wasn't out of left field.

I thought William's character was written a little to beta for my tastes, but he was very devoted. Ivy was boring... too boring. I didn't connect with her.

Safety: Both experienced. Some reviewers stated he's a virgin, but he isn't. He just can't recall his past. The first time they go without protection. I always think it's stupid and it takes me out of the story for a bit when that happens.

One thing I appreciated from the author. She added an element of realism to the sexy times that is so often overlooked because it might interrupt the post coital bliss. Every time they finish, Ivy gets up and goes to the bathroom. Kuddos to the author for making sure Ivy doesn't get a UTI.

Totally out of normal cookie-cutter romance book, the story of Ivy and William really pulls at your heart and makes you question everything!

The author did a fantastic job of developing these characters and wrapping everything up neatly with a pretty bow.

Such a uniquely written book. I honestly didn't know where is was going from start to finish. I love all of Claire's Books and have been slowly devouring them as I have only found her within the last year or so. I like how differently William was written, you didn't know if you should love him or if his odd behavior should be a red flag. I think that kind of writing is top notch and deserves awards. This book was beautiful inside and out. Ivy was a great female lead, she never wavered in her belief in William, another trait that's hard to find in a lot of books.
