Rush

Rate this book
Rush Osman probably watches himself in the mirror while he screws and kisses his biceps good morning. An arrogant, domineering, over-dressed rock star. The sort of man I’ve had my fill of for a hundred lifetimes.

And yet.

Rush has an energy about him that pulls me in. Captivating energy. Dark, magnetic energy. Big Daddy energy.

I feel it crackling between us every time I’m close to him. Now, my only choice is to get far, far away from him, or be pulled into a world that I swore I’d never set foot in again. A world that thrashed me, body and soul.

A world that Rush promises to protect me from, if only I surrender myself to him.

I’ve only ever trusted myself, but Rush is battering against my defenses. He pushes me to the brink and then holds me there until I shatter. His punishment is a rush. Falling for him is a rush. Loving him is a rush.

But being destroyed by him is the biggest rush of all.

4 Perfect Surrender Stars ⭐

Dree North's career as a choreographer and dancer had just hit it's peak when it imploded sensationally overnight. Now hidden away from the limelight to tend to her wounds, the last thing she wants is another celebrity seeking out her services.

Rush Osman is British Rock Royalty. As lead singer of Saint Cyprian, he is unused to being denied what he wants. And what he wants is Dree choreographing his upcoming single. Since he himself will be dancing in it, only the best will suffice, and she's it.

Dree has her reasons for being skittish and insecure about working with Rush. Except the more they interact, the harder it is to say no. Because everything he's offering, is all she's yearned for. Especially on a personal level.

“I heard you ask for someone to hurt you, so how about you tell me how you want it? Then after, you let me kiss it better and hold you so tight until whatever it is that makes you think you’re pathetic and worthless shuts the hell up and you can just be.”

What are the chances that the kind of relationship and kink Rush has been desiring is with a pint size woman who won't say yes? But no is only ever the first answer because he is prepared to earn Dree. Now that's she agreed to work with him, his biggest challenge will be winning her love.

“Did you miss me, Daddy?”

“So goddamn much. You beg me to smack the living daylights out of you and then freak out because I show you some affection. What the fuck is wrong with you, woman?”

There is no denying that Rush Osman was perfection. Honestly a successful musician with integrity and compassion, you couldn't possibly dream of better daddy material! I gotta say that even though I loved the story, I wasn't totally enamoured with Dree. This story was exciting, seriously kinky and just a pleasure to read. 💚

2 Almost Dnf Stars

Not really vibing with this author's writing. Second book by her and I still can't connect to the story, and almost DNF both times. This one I think I liked even less than the other one. No chemistry, very cheesy and unrealistic. I can blame it on it being a rockstar romance, which those I'm not really fond of, but this book didn't even have all the ow drama and man-ho-ness I hate, and I still didn't like it.

There was also too much sex for me. When I read romance, I need a healthy dose of actual romance, with the sex as the cherry on top. Not just sex with some romance sprinkled on it. All the heroine kept thinking about was sex and it was actually pretty unprofessional and straight up cringe for me to read about, and SO forced. It just made her more immature imo. The hero on the other hand, wasn't too bad, but nothing really special that stood out. Other than all that, I wasn't really a fan of the drama, and the whole label dropping thing was super unrealistic if he is such a popular "rockstar". That brings me to, me having a hard time imagining him as a rockstar with the whole music video image. Maybe if he was indie rock or more of a pop singer it would make more sense, but not a "rockstar", so I had the hardest time taking any of it seriously.

Overall, not a fan.

"I want to pull her so far inside myself that she'll live there forever."

Ok, I've had my eye on this author for a while. She seems to crank out some hot and sexy books with lots of steam and kink. So when I saw Rush, I was immediately intrigued. I was a bit iffy when I saw that this was a Daddy kink book because, truth be told, I have only seen this kink well executed one other time and that was in Act Your Age which was phenomenal.

But I do find kinks super interesting, and all the complexities behind them. And they're, well let's be honest...HOT!! And after a whole buncha serious and tear jerking reads lately, this girl was just interested in some old fashioned smut!

10755642_zpsfg7hra8f

Dree is a dancer and choreographer who's just getting over (barely) a very public and humiliating spectacle when she meets Rush, lead singer of the band Saint Cyprian. When Rush sees a music video from another band with some choreography that catches his eye, he's determined to find out who the choreographer was and work with her.

Dree just wants privacy at the time and initially refuses to work with Rush. But from the get go, their attraction and draw towards one another is undeniable.

This book totally had a Jodi Ellen Malpas meets Tina Reber's Love Unscripted vibe to it for me. I loved that it involved dancing and all the sexual tension that it created for this couple. Rush is instantly guarded and possessive over Bree, and Bree, try as she might, can't fight the connection she feels to Rush.

Ok, so that's all well and good... but when these two actually get together? HOT AF! I went from casually reading this book to dialed the hell in!

786429_zpsyvrif5of

"Sometimes...sometimes when my thoughts get really dark, I imagine someone hitting me."

Neither one of them have ever actually verbalized the kinks and fantasies they are interested in, being too embarrassed to do so. But they decide to confess them to each other, and I loved that about this story.

“I’ve got a feeling you’re going to wake up after a long sleep and pretend you never said that to me. Do me a favor, would you?”

My heart is suddenly pounding so hard it feels like it’s going to break through my ribs. “What?”

His lips brush over mine. “Don’t.”--"

I will just say that this woman writes some EXTREMELY hot and edgy sex scenes and I am here for it!

khloe-kardashian-im-ready_zpsadxo4o9k

Rush was a delicious dirty talker, fierce and totally alpha possessive over Dree in a very good way.

If this is what the rest of this author's backlist looks like, then I have some serious catching up to do.

There were a few moments when Dree was a little too wishy washy for me that bothered me, but otherwise, this was a great read. Very sexy with a solid storyline. I cannot wait to read MUCH more from this author soon!!

“I heard you ask for someone to hurt you, so how about you tell me how you want it? Then after, you let me kiss it better and hold you so tight until whatever it is that makes you think you’re pathetic and worthless shuts the hell up and you can just be.”

A Rockstar daddy and boy I fell in love with Rush..and I think you shall to.

Dree has had a rough year thanks to a old boss who ruined her reputation and also thanks to his fans and the internet. Dree is closed off and not taking any clients as a Choreographer since the drama but she did one with a new group and didn't know that would attract rock god Rush Osman and he won't take no for a answer he keeps temping and trying to get Dree to work with him and the band. Few tries and his charm works and lorddddd the sexual tension between the two..

What I love about this book both are newbies to daddy kink and boy Rush was a soft daddy with a hint of growly that man was so jealous and possessive I melted in my own... well ya know ;) he has become a fave for me the way he talked the way he made sure his girl was safe and sound.. ugh love it.. I love this man.. he can be my daddy any day. And our girl Dree she took some time for me to warm up to become she was very hesitant due to her past but I understood why and glad she did take her time.. she was a good character I wanted to protect her to.. she's to good for the world.
Can I tell you one more time.. Rush is my fave daddy... when you read this you'll understand why.

Low angst, No ow drama tiny om drama (you'll know whp), no cheating, drama, sexy times, no virgins

No rating because I only got a few chapters in....

My goodreads friends must think I'm some online troll that only writes negative reviews, but im really just a poor girl in the biggest book slump of the decade.

So why did I give up only a few chapters in? Everything just felt so ****manufactured****. Like the setting, the characters, the chemistry all felt over produced and cookie cutter at the same time. OF COURSE the heroine is a famous dancer but somehow still needs to work as a waitress. OF COURSE shes down on her luck at only 21 freaking years old. OF COURSE she has to take the bus instead of owning her own car. I mean... would it kill you to write a heroine with some fucking agency?!!?! God forbid a leading female character have her life together. Anyway..

I felt like the entire 'situationship' was kinda lazy, and the setting didnt make sense. I gotta believe these people are professionals and the mental hoops I had to jump through were too much for me to go along with it, let alone enjoy it.

Am i taking smut way too seriously?! 1000% yes, I gotta chill the fuck out. But i am so desperate for a good book i could cry.... And honey... this. was. not. it.

I read this as an ARC. Rockstar daddy romance with humiliation kink, as well as slapping, spanking, and some (mild) little play. I actually really liked their dynamic. The plot had a lot of drama but the couple themselves were pretty solid. He’s confident. She’s insecure.

Rock star Rush meets dancer Dree when he hires her to choreograph his latest music video. The rest of the book details their growing erotic (mainly "Daddy" kink) and romantic relationship, complicated by Dree's past traumatic experience at the hands of Rush' biggest musical rival.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it highly with a couple of caveats that may be triggers for some. The kinks these two share include humiliation and face-slapping. Since these are "hard limits" for me, I skimmed a lot of their erotic scenes; others, however, may find them appealing. Note: I'd have found this more palatable if Rush had evinced the slightest concern that he might blacken her eye or break her nose. Slapping someone is dangerous unless done properly in this context.

That said, there's a lot to like about this book. I'll mention three. First, Dree and Rush are enormously likable. Although Dree is younger and much more vulnerable than Rush, she isn't in his shadow; rather, she's a fully-fledged character in her own right with goals and aspirations who stands up for herself and sets limits when necessary. He, in turn, may have the charm and arrogance of a highly-successful performing artist, but he's a decent person who always treats Dree with respect, earns her trust by taking wonderful care of her, and never takes advantage of her. The second is that I'm a sucker for H's who are laser-focused on and possessive of their h's; given the enormous sacrifices he makes for her, Rush takes that particular prize thus far this year. Finally, as usual Ms. Hale creates a richly detailed artistic environment (here, rock music) that feels realistic. Note: She provides a playlist for the book; I'm either too old or not cool enough, but the only artist I've heard of is David Bowie! I'm motivated, though, to listen to the others.

I have some quibbles. The prose needed one more proofing (including misspelling Billie Eilish's name twice), and Dree and Rush engaged in some unnecessary back-and-forth. But my biggest concern was the book's depiction of the relationship between BDSM and trauma. This is an age-old debate: "Are you using BDSM to process your past trauma and does it matter if the acts prove to be successful coping mechanisms?" Certainly, BDSM is a powerful tool to address emotional pain and the fact that Dree -- the traumatized person -- is in control of how much pain Rush delivers allows her to process past hurts. But, this attitude gets lost after awhile and is never fully addressed and/or resolved.

4 stars. You spend the entire book hoping that Rush and Dree would get their HEA, and there's no higher praise for a book in this genre than that.

When I’m stumped on what to read next, I’ll dig through my folder labeled “KU” which is full of screenshots from TikTok of book recs. I wasn’t able to put my finger on exactly what I wanted, but I was feeling a contemporary without too much drama.

My screenshot of Rush was from JULY 2021. Lordy I need to have a better system for categorizing my TBR.

Anyway, I want to line up the content warnings up front, because they’re lengthy: past workplace abuse and harassment; online bullying; drugging (no assault) and hospitalization; daddy kink and light DDLG (no diapers, thank goodness), BDSM, requests to be degraded during sex, to be hit and choked; panic attack; physical violence.

I’m always on board for a daddy kink so while I didn’t really get the requests for violence and degradation, I shrugged it off. All violence/degradation was super super consensual.

Okay on to the actual story. The heroine, Dree, is a ballet dancer and choreographer who previously had a bad experience with a band that abused her in the workplace. Months have passed and she takes a small job for a friend’s music video but Rush, the lead singer of a massive rock band, is obsessed with the video and tracks her down, wanting to collab.

Dree learning to regain confidence in herself and her work was lovely, as was her professional relationship with Rush and his team - a stark contrast to past experiences.

Rush was dreamy. Super alpha, tough, protective, a little jealous. I liked that there was no usual “rockstar drama” from other women, groupies, jealousy, etc.

Even the third act conflict (which came a bit early) was great, because it was so internal to their relationship and Rush was like, “you’re not fucking giving up on this.”

I saw someone else’s review call this a palate cleanser which I would say is pretty accurate. While I liked the type of character Rush was as a hero/ alpha/ daddy, I didn’t really connect with either of them or their relationship - which was largely just based on sex > emotions. So it was fine, but I didn’t feel some type of way about them as a couple.

4.25 stars | brianna, you are EVERYTHING!! i was so excited for this release and it didn‘t disappoint in the slightest. while it‘s super sexy and kinky, it‘s also such a beautiful, raw and sweet love story.

rush was SO HOT and a savage king. he knows what he wants and isn‘t afraid to do anything and everything to get it, including dree. he was so loving and sweet but also very firm and rough and AH i love him. dree isn‘t one of my new favourite heroines but i did like her a lot and her chemistry with rush was great! her backstory added a really interesting layer to the story which i enjoyed a lot.

overall, this was such a fun, sexy ride and i LIVED for it <3 if you‘re into daddy kinks then this is the book for you!!

Phenomenal.
I'm sure I say this about every book this author releases, but this is my new favorite of her books. It's just a delightful read. It's atmospheric, authoritative (I can only imagine the research the author did), utterly engaging, and moving. I felt so deeply with and for these characters. I was absolutely sure an event the book led up to was not going to happen - there would be *some* last minute reprieve - but no, it happened and I felt so proud of the author for making the brave choice to have her characters face real-world consequences for their behavior. I love romance that feels real and this book certainly does.
For readers who are not quite sure about daddykink, this is daddykink light. There are no diapers or medical examinations and very little age-play. Quite a safe introduction to daddykink if readers are looking to dip a toe.
This is a complete story with no cliff-hanger. I can't see a "continuation" of this story, but I hope the author returns to rockstar romance at some point because she writes it so very well.
Highly recommended.

I don’t like rockstar romances, but Brianna Hale changed my mind.

Rush is such a soft, sweet caring daddy who isn’t afraid to do exactly what his girl asks of him. Without question. He might just be my new favorite daddy. He isn’t afraid to go after what he wants and never let it go once he has it. I adore him.

Dree is so head strong. She tries to act tough, but deep down she is such a sweet bean. I adore her endlessly.

Together they make one of the most intense dom/sub dynamics I’ve ever read about. They are real and raw and downright beautiful. Humiliation is not a kink I read often because it can sometimes be too much for me as a reader, but this one did it perfectly.

If you are a music lover at all or are missing the atmosphere of a live event, read this book. Hale nails the atmosphere of a venue filled to the brim with passionate fans seeing their favorite artist live.

TW: drugging someone’s drink, mentions of assault where clothes were taken away, mentions of verbal abuse, consensual degradation, consensual rough spanking (hands and belt)

I didn't expect to fall so hard and fast for Rush and Dree's Rockstar romance! This story is equally swoonworthy and kinky hot. The emotions pulled me in instantly. The dirty, filthy and ubder sexy moments made me melt. An absolutely breathtaking adrenaline "RUSH".

Dree has been disgraced and humiliated in social media by a rockstar. She was innocent but it was her words against a star. She has restricted herself into a prison of her own making. Till Rush Jones, the lead singer and guitarist of Saint Cyprine hunts her down and convinces her to choreograph their next music video. Now they have something magnetic between them besides the art and music. Can Dree fulfil her darkest fantasies without involving her heart? Will Rush make her whole or break her again?

I have read many forbidden romance like stepfather-stepdaughter or father's best friend but this story isn't forbidden in that sense. And that's what I loved most. They have their own kink inside bedroom. But outside that, they are partners and equals. I cannot tell you how amazing this combo is. I wasn't sure whether the daddy kink part would make me cringe but WOW IT WAS SO WELL WRITTEN..and it was hot hot hot! Like they are this dirty talking and erotic couple in private..and imagine all kinds of power plays bordering dominance submission. Dree needed that to feel whole and to take control of her messy life and Rush gave her that. Dree was the one calling the shot actually. She felt complete and Rush was content with giving her what she desired. Now this dynamics also spread outside bedroom but in a completely swoonworthy way. That made me go "awwww that's so sweet and beautiful". Because sweet and cute Dree needed a protector like Rush. The possessive, bossy, arrogant, uber protective rockstar who made her feel safe and valued and cherished. THIS MAN IS EVERYTHING! He made all her dreams come true and she made him fall in love. The emotions were mindblowing. My heart is so full and I am happy to the extremes. The plot was smart and fast paced and I was all in.

Rush by Brianna Hale was an impossibly addictive combination of extremes of steam and swoon. I cannot tell you how much this story owns me!

I wasn't sure I was going to like Rush as much as I did, I wasn't exactly in the mood for a rockstar. But OMG Rush 😍😍😍I really enjoyed this story. I was surprised by the kink Rush and Dree were into but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will say I thought when Rush came to Dree's apartment was the hottest scene, and that was pretty early on, I had hopes of more scorching scenes later in the book and while there were other hot scenes I don't think anything beat that apartment scene imo. I also appreciated the direct drama with the other band (not just the Dree stuff), I thought it was well done and provided a bit of extra dimension to the book. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good rockstar Daddy to spend some time with 🥰

Rush was my first time reading something from Brianna Hale and I was not dissappointed. She has a way with words that makes it all flow lyrically.

I loved Rush, he was everything like literally. Dree's development at the end was just beautiful, and I loved their relationship dynamic!! I would definitely recommend this book if you like age-gaps with a humiliation kink (there's also slapping and spanking involved)

I have a soft spot for UK settings and Ms Brianna Hale knows art, music, ballet, dance. Her storylines are mostly original, honest and always full of emotions and kink. I liked the character of Rush Osman, he was perfection but alas did not fit to the daddy dom. I know the writing style of Ms Hale. Yet, I believe that this story would have been much much better without it.

description

Brianna Hale's RUSH transported me in a world of creative energy. The author explored the music business, its hard work, tensions, rivalties but also the depths of friendship, the thrill of a new release and shows.
"She’s obsessed with feeling secure. It’s exciting for her to dance with her own destruction."

Dree is a dancer, choreographer who tries to undergo her last professional experience that left her emotionally scarred. Rush is the singer of Saint Cyprien rock band. Self-assured, and the incarnation of everything you could imagine about a famous singer, he is also 11 years older than the little dancer.

"Adorable. Vulnerable. Cute as fuck. She’s stubborn, but I sense it’s only because she’s been hurt. With the right man, she’d melt like butter."

I absolutely loved the positive vibe of this story. The main characters deeply touched me, I couldn't get enough of their strength, their focus. The anticipation gripped me, the sensuality and chemistry they share, through the dancing, but not only, felt incredible.
"No running away from now on, babygirl. Only running to me."

They support, and feed, each other's art, all the while trying to figure out what that spark between them mean. Rush's patience melted my heart. I absolutely loved that he could read and guide her, help her grow and heal her wounds. A perfect Daddy for her.

I loved this book so much. This is my first rock star romance, and I'm glad I started with this one.

Rush is a caring protective Daddy, and I love him for it. He's the kind of person that always has his love's best interest at heart.

Dree is a damaged, but strong heroine. She's a bit of a brat (in scene) and I love her for that, too. I love how this book tackles heavy topics, especially surrounding date rape. It's important and needed, and really drove the plot forward to hit it's message home. I would recommend this if you're comfortable with the content and kinks involved. It's a wonderful book.

The setup and couple weren’t bad. I actually really liked Rush, loved the plot of the video etc. However the Daddy Dom just didn’t come off quite right, The degradation kink was a nail in the coffin that make the intimate scenes cringe worthy. This felt like two adults playing the BDSM game badly instead of a BDSM relationship. Didn’t work for me.
