Texting With the Enemy

Rate this book
She’s texting him her heart. But she’s got the wrong number…

When Isabel “El” Watson applied for a sales job with her company, she had no idea a jelly donut would explode on her blouse, or that her grumpy boss would practically laugh her out of the interview. Accountants could be salespeople, she was sure of it, even if that jerkface didn’t think so.

So when a lady at the local wine festival offers her a sales job on the spot at a new boutique winery, El jumps at the chance. She also jumps at the chance to text with the guy who danced with her at the festival. Life was finally looking up.

Boston’s friend, Chad, never should have given Boston’s number to the girl at the wine festival as a joke, but the damage was done. When El sends Boston a text later that night, believing he is Chad, he’s too nice to hurt her feelings by telling her the truth. But there are a few other truths Boston might have thought about:
Truth #1: He’s her boss
Truth #2: She just accepted a job at his mother’s new winery
Truth #3: He’s always had a crush on her

Even though Boston is no longer El’s grumpy boss, they still work together at his mom’s winery. And while sparks are flying as they get to know each other for real, El’s kind of sweet on the guy who always seems to know just what to say via text too.

Obviously, things will come to a head.

Will Boston come clean about the flirty texts being from him? Or will El figure out on her own that she’s been Texting With the Enemy?

I'm USA Today Bestselling author Delancey Stewart. My contemporary romances run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It's a guarantee.

I write from my home in Denver, CO, where I manage a household full of boys and men. Okay, only one man. The hubs. But two boys. I mean, three if you count the hubs. (You see why I do words and not numbers. I was told there'd be no math in this bio. Someone lied.)

I grew up in California and have had more jobs than anyone on earth (personal trainer, pharmaceutical rep, copywriter, tech writer, marketing director, wine seller, elementary school teacher...

i'm a sucker for cute covers (especially with my favorite colors), and texting romance, so I had to read this one.
El thinks she's texting this guy named Chad, but actually, she's texting Boston aka her soon-to-be ex-boss.
If you're looking for a short and sweet rom-com, this is the book for you.

Loved this adorably charming and FUN read! I laughed so many times while reading this.

This well-written RomCom is the first book written by two authors whose books I highly enjoy. It was everything I knew it would be and it was exactly what I needed. It made me giggle and smile and left me feeling so very happy at the end.

When Chad the Neck Licker gives Boston’s number to Isabel instead of his own, things get a bit tricky. Because Boston decides to pretend to be Chad while texting back and forth with El. What could possibly go wrong?

I absolutely adored watching El & Boston’s relationship go from him being her boss, to being her trainer for her new job, to friends, to them wanting so much more. I loved their chemistry, I swear I could feel the sparks. They were getting hotter with each turn of the page. They were so dang cute together!

Then the truth comes out, feelings get hurt, grudges are held, regrets are strong, and lots of groveling happens.

Frank and his girls were quite the unique side characters. I actually looked forward to what Frank would say and do next. They definitely kept it interesting. So many other supporting characters were awesome as well...the moms, Boston’s brothers, El’s best friend Ashley. And let’s not forget Pauline! My goodness that woman was hilarious.

If you’re looking for a sweet & fun, clean romance that will entertain and make you smile pretty much the whole way through, you’ll definitely want to read this one.

Loved the sneak peek into the next book. Looking forward to another Cunningham brother’s story!

Finally!! I got out of my two-weeks-reading slump thanks to this one hilarious book!

I did not just spend the entire Saturday in bed getting hooked by Boston and El's love story until my hands were trembling so hard because of holding my phone for six hours straight. They still are though. But i got my misery's worth.

If you are in search for a light, fast-paced, entertaining, PG-13 aka no smut romance story then you should give this book a go. I, myself, was not expecting this one would turn out to be so good. I just saw the title with the word "enemy" so I literally dropped everything because...you know, WHO doesn't like enemies to lovers trope?!
Count me out, B. I'm a total sucker for it. :P

I knew before I started reading that this book would be perfect and a must read for me. Before long I was giggling and laughing so hard that I was glad I didn’t drink or have to pee beforehand...or while reading. This rom-com is a page turner with characters you immediately connect with doing interesting things. I adored this crew and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. The series is going to be amazing. This should be on your must read list if it isn’t already.

Marika and Delancey have create a great romantic comedy that will keep you laughing. A feel good book is exactly what I needed during these unsettling times. El and Boston are great characters and their bank an forth banter was hilarious. Their chemistry is off the charts and they compliment each other. She's causes him to relax a little and he gives her the support she needs. The circumstances that led to their texting were unusual and it's comical that she thinks she is actually texting someone else. This is a clean romance with lots of romance. A fun book that I know you will enjoy. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

This collaboration produced a rom com that is sweet and very funny. It is written in first person from a dual POV.
El is a clumsy, funny, heroine who is all sunshine. I love her giving heart and her perseverance. Boston is weighed down by responsibility, is a little on the grumpy side, and is not the always the most tactful person. I adored that he is working so hard for his family. I love the circumstances which lead them to form a text friendship, though El does not realize it is Boston she is texting. I love the setting in wine country. The moms are very funny. There are a lot of witty name conventions, which I adored.
My favorite thing was reading as Boston fell head over heels for the girl and was willing to do anything to win her. Kissing and hugging are it as far as heat goes. This romance is on the clean and sweet side of things, but what it lacks in steam is made up for with romance. I loved this couple and their HEA. I look forward to reading more in this series.

How can you not love a book by either one of these authors? Them together is a real treat!

Isabelle (El) is a smart, driven, clutzy gal. She can work numbers and sales, but stumbles and knocks stuff over like a pro. She is tired of her boobs getting all the attention, she wants a man to want her for just being herself.

Boston is a very driven, serious fella. He not only runs his now deceased fathers business, but is helping his mom get her new winery going.

In a series of hilarious events, these two learn to tolerate, date, and forgive. There are some parts, especially nearing the end that had me rolling. Honestly, every character in this book were strong. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them.

I received an advanced copy of this book, and am leaving an honest review.

Did I just 5 star this book? Before even getting my hands on it? You bet! Two of the sweetest authors I know of wrote this together. I'm already swooning just thinking about it.

I’m so entertained and the swooning part was fairly accurate though I thought the cunning ham was a little too cunning at the beginning. I love the dual point of view, the way the hero is willing to be ridiculous to get his girl and the pig costume is over the top funny. The clumsy girl is very familiar. I had a few outbursts of laughter so loud I was happy to be alone and I have no doubt this series will be my new favorite.

I feel bad rating this book so low because of all of the other high reviews but I just need to rant about this book. I'll preface this by saying I love romances like this where there's some sort of element like texting or emailing. Especially if it's a wrong number situation so I thought I would love this book and I really did want to love. I strongly disliked this book. One of the first problems I had was with El's constant boob-related wardrobe malfunctions like girl get a good bra or some clothes that fit you, you're 28. Also, everyone was constantly bringing up her huge breasts which felt so unrealistic and weird plus she didn't mention having back problems related to them so they really couldn't have been that big. Now onto the catfishing element, I was wary going into this because I thought Boston would drag it out and it would turn into something manipulative or toxic but confessed to El on their first date after they'd only texted for like 2 weeks. Then he apologizes whilst showing his vulnerability and she basically says she'll never forgive him but he keeps trying. His whole story before that point was him helping El become a salesperson, helping her mom, and spending all of his free time helping his mom. Meanwhile he is a CEO who has all these problems at work. Like really El? He hasn't showed you he's a good man all this time. I was just so frustrated with El especially because she kept saying how much she missed him and was falling for him but still kept him in limbo. The majority of the book just felt wasted on this conflict. It didn't even feel like the texting part was that fleshed out. Again, I wanted to love this book but the conflict just yanked the rest of it down for me.

I adored this book. I thought it was cute, funny and quite sweet. This sunshine/grump story hits you in the feels while also making sure you do plenty of chuckling. I loved El's spunky enthusiasm and could relate to her klutziness. Boston may have been a grump but I loved him too. Sure, their were a few times when I found myself quite annoyed with him but in the end you gotta give it to the guy for being willing to go all in to win the woman he loves. Overall, I just really thought that this was a fun read. The balance of humor, drama, emotion, romance and zaniness was spot on. A perfect book to relax, enjoy and bring some brightness to your day with. I'm very excited to read more of this series. This is my volitional, forthright review.

I flew through this, reading it in one go, as I couldn't put it down! It's funny, so much so, I pretty much gave away the fact I was sneaky reading at work by laughing out loud several times! Oh my, without giving anything away...I nearly cry laughed towards the end (and am now considering buying a pig costume for fun!).
Boston definitely needed Isabelle to loosen him up, and she needed him to support her and together they balance each other out. It was sweet to read and the dusting of humour over the top just sealed it as a great book. The other characters are so full of personality and I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens to everyone.

I liked this book! Grumpy hero’s are my favorite and Boston fits the bill. El was easy to like and root for! Their chemistry was fantastic. The cast of side characters was amazing! Frank and his “girls” had me rolling! If you are looking for a light, often funny read, this is it!

Muy lindo.

Una lectura muy fácil, corta, entretenida, que cumple como lectura de fin de semana. Me gustaron los personajes y obviamente seguiré la serie con gusto.

Just the first paragraph...nope

Really? The mom is “nearing 60” and portrayed like this? Do these authors know what that age actually looks like?

Texting with the Enemy is the first book in a new collaboration rom-com series by Delancey Stewart and Marika Ray. The book is written in dual POV and is a stand alone complete with a HEA. I'm familiar with Marika's work and know that she can bring the humor, while Delancey is new to me, I was very excited to read this book.

Isabelle Watson- or El as she likes to be called- is a little bit of a hot mess. She's a bit clumsy and always seems to have the best luck at embarrassing herself. But she is also sweet and kind hearted even if she is also stubborn and can hold a grudge. Boston Cunningham is a bit of a workaholic who can come across as gruff and grumpy. He carries the weight of his family's businesses on his shoulders since he feels like he has to be responsible for everyone. Boston has always harbored a little crush on El, despite the fact that he is her boss- so when his friend Chad gives El Boston's number instead of his own, Boston finally gets the chance to get to know her and let her get to know him even if it's under false pretenses.

I'm a little conflicted with this book- I love the banter and there are some seriously LOL worthy scenes but I felt like something was missing. Boston and El had great chemistry together and we got a little into their backgrounds which helped explain some of their personality quirks. I loved how Boston would really open up and show El how sweet and caring he could be, helping her realize that maybe she made some wrong judgements about him. I just can't help but feeling like this book could have been so much more. There were of course the cute scenes of them working together and the little bit of texting that they did but I was left feeling a little like the build up of their relationship was kind of glossed over. There was enough there for them to definitely like each other and reconcile when everything came apart but not quite enough for the grand declaration of love to really make sense, to me a least- though that entire apology/declaration gesture was hilarious. I still enjoyed Boston and El's story and how the series continues as Marika and Delancey get into the groove of writing together. Looking forward to Lincoln's book next!

"Let me spend my whole life next to you while you go out and realize your dreams"....SWOON!!!!!

The plot to this story was so absolutely adorable and I couldn't get enough of it. Girl gets given wrong phone # from a guy and it turns out that phone # belongs to her boss and she is not even close to being his #1 fan.

When El is given Chad's phone # she assumes it is him she is texting with but it turns out that the real phone # belongs to her boss, Boston....Chad's best friend. She goes on about how she doesn't like her boss at first but after they are forced to spend some time together she learns that he isn't quite as bad as she thought he was.

Boston has admired the beauty that is El from a distance for some time, she is an accountant at his family's business. When he doesn't hire her for a sales position she coincidentally meets his mother and is offered a sales position at her up and coming winery. Boston gets the shock of his life when he sees his mother has hired El and it is his job to train her and educate her on wine and the sale of it.

They grow closer every minute they spend together and fall for each other. Boston knows he should tell her the truth about him being the one she is texting with and not Chad but he just cannot bring himself to do so until he is forced to have to do it and things end exactly how he predicted they would.

This story is filled with wonderful side characters whose stories I hope we get. This is a cleaner romance but that was part of the magnificent appeal to me...a switch up from my normal for sure. Sometimes a good old fashioned "clean" feel good story is just what the soul needs. I am no stranger to Marika Ray's works but this was my first Delancey Stewart book and I am now wanting to read some of her other stuff. These two ladies did a fantastic job with this and I am really looking forward to the rest of the series.

I just loved this sweet romance by two of my favorite authors! Seeing Delancey & Marika team up, I had a feeling it would be a home run. And it was! Texting with a stranger tropes are fairly new and this one had a twist - the stranger she was texting wasn't who she thought he was. He'd given her the number of someone she already knew...and strongly disliked.

I found I really related to Boston's character. We're responsible to a fault and often our spoken words don't actually convey what we're trying to say. I understood his frustration with himself when it came to interacting with El. I admit, I was rooting for him from the very beginning, despite the mistakes he made. I totally get how communicating in text and under anonymity would give one the freedom to be more themselves.

This book has quirky side characters (I'm looking at you, Frank) and a love triangle that isn't quite as pointed as El thinks all in the backdrop of wine country. Definitely looking forward to book two by this dynamic duo of authors!

This is the first book in the Digital Dating series. In my opinion, for an enemies to lovers trope to work well, the author has to find a balance between animosity between the main characters without tipping into meanness or abuse. Stewart and Ray find the perfect sweet spot in this book. Boston Cunningham has always felt responsible and serious but after the unexpected death of his father, he feels even more uber-responsible for his family’s company and for his mother’s fledgling winery. Isabel/El is an accountant at Boston’s family company, a wine distributor, but she dreams of being a sales person. Despite his attraction and respect for El from afar, Boston, unfortunately, says all the wrong things to El when she interviews for a sales position at the company and he turns her down. At a wine festival El unknowingly meets Boston’s mother and gets a job as a sales person with her winery. At the same festival she dances with Chad, a friend of Boston’s, who gives El Boston’s number instead of his own. Thus begins the dual love story of El and “Chad” (really Boston) who have a text relationship and El and Boston who begin to have a relationship IRL while he is training her at the new winery. This book has a little bit of everything on the journey to Boston and El’s HEA - sweet moments, heart squeezing encounters, family support, painful pasts, and laugh out loud scenes. I love when real life issues - like family difficulties, deaths, financial problems, and difficult childhoods - are included in romances, it makes for more three dimensional characters and more well rounded and relatable storylines. I will definitely keep reading more of this great series.

Quick and light but ultimately forgettable. Isabel & Boston were nice enough but they were written like teenagers. There is nothing more annoying than seeing two grown adults behaving like children. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. They could have been fleshed out a bit more.

There were a lot of gimmicks and random scenes thrown in which didn’t add anything to the plot or help with the character’s development (more like fillers). El texting “Chad” was kinda cringey. I mean, he was actually Boston but El didn’t know that. She just came across as too eager and desperate when texting “Chad”, the guy who literally licked her neck the first time they met so it was weird.

When Boston comes clean Isabel is so immature that I wanted to smack her. Yes, she had a right to be upset and embarrassed but, come on, she totally overreacted and gave Boston a hard time even after he proved that he was a nice guy. The ending/grand gesture was too much. I couldn’t take anyone seriously.

Loved this one and again when the supporting characters can make the book better and not be in the background as much and are front and center with the main one, priceless. This was no different for a Marika Ray book. I have not read Delancey Stewart before but if this is any indication I will need to resolve that real quick.

This was a nice quick read for me and I love when I can almost finish a book within a day. Sometimes you just need a little pick me up and It was a Sunday night when I started this and if I didn't have work the next day, it would have been read a lot quicker. El and Boston had the unusual Meet Cute but it all ended as it should for these two and I can't wait for Lincoln's story next.

The perfect case of don't judge a book by it's cover! Boston's sole focus is his job and family, so when El comes in to apply for another position, he takes out his frustration on her, knowing that he can't lose her in the job title she already has. When El gets a better offer, from his mother of all people, she jumps at the chance.

Through a joke played by a friend, El winds up with texting with someone she thinks is cute, but is pleasantly surprised by the depth of the text conversations. Little does she know who's actually on the other end of the line. I love relationships that are based on actually getting to know one another, and this one's even more hilarious, since she ends up venting about the very person she's asking advice from. This story was the perfect mix of romance and comedy, creating a great start to a new series.

Kind of from the very beginning, you know what the bomb was that would blow this pair apart. But Boston and El are so sweet, and they are just so endearing as a couple, I couldn’t help but keep reading to find out how it would happen and what it would take to stick all the pieces back together. Boston stole my heart with his insecurities and vulnerabilities. His constant foot-in-mouth issues with El were utterly charming. El’s terminal klutziness is where I fell in love with her. It was so easy to see myself in that trait of hers that I connected with her almost instantly. I adored the ending and I can’t wait to read more about the Cunning Ham Winery.

When two of my favourite rom-com authors combine you know it's going to amazing and it really was!

Full of fun, laughter, fantastic characters that you instantly warm to! I couldn't put it down.

Boston, is trying to combine running is late fathers wine company with helping his mum set up her own business. He has a lot on his mind and can sometimes be a bit too serious. El (Isabella) works for Boston as an account but really her heart is in sales! So when she gets the dream job she isn't about to turn it down and even better she can get away from growly boss Boston, El does not like Boston! After El starts to talking to Boston's friend Chad at a party, Boston gets a tad jealous when he sees Chad give El his number but all is not as it appears!

I loved El and Boston, there chemistry was so good!

Can't wait for the next book in the series!

I was honoured to get an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Isabel Watson dances and chats to a guy named Chad, when asked for his phone number Chad ends up giving her Boston's number. Chad admits this to Boston. Boston is El's boss who is her worst enemy.

El is offered a new job at a winery but she doesn't realise it is owned by Boston's mother. El & Boston are constantly texting each other but El thinks she is sharing her life with Chad.

Now add a pig mascot, a crazy next door neighbour who has some seriously crazy friends to the mix and you will end up with a hilarious story.

Really Loved This Book

Really, really enjoy both of these authors and am super happy with collaboration of these two on this book. Super cute and excited about this whole new series. Loved both of the two main protagonists and all the side characters. El and Boston are super fun together and I would highly recommend this book to anyone that loves fun romance. Absolutely cannot wait for the next book and I am excited about everything that was hinted at in the next book at the end of this one.

Absolutely loved this book! El meets a man and gets his number - though it’s not for the person she thought. Boston was her boss and didn’t think she had what it took to be a sales person. When he is now in charge of training her at his mother’s new winery, they start to see each other in a whole new light.

The team of Marika and Delancey put their magic together to give us this adorable story with heart! The characters are very well written and easy to fall in love with and root for their happily ever after! I hope there is more to come from these authors!!
