The team that asked, “What if only Black people had superpowers?” is back with the sequel to the critically acclaimed series, BLACK.
It’s been three years since the world learned only Black people have superhuman abilities, and the United States has responded by electing Theodore Mann to the presidency. The only people standing in the way of his policies to control empowered Blacks are Kareem Jenkins and his allies.
I loved this! It was better than the first series and has me very excited for what's next.
I'm very sensitive about stories that are too heavy-handed or on-the-nose. This was a potent political commentary with over references to contemporary figures, but always did it in a tasteful, subversive, and even playful way. I really enjoy it and I hope it keeps going!
A bunch of white people being the absolute worst can be painful to read. If you are interested in a world where only Black people have superpowers, definitely start with the first volume, Black. I enjoyed the dynamics of the team and the ways they played out differently than more familiar superhero tales in Marvel & DC. I wish there was actually a lot more of this.
