Still cute and we get some new characters, but I miss the school setting already, and we spend this whole volume just focused on EX Japan matches. I can't be too mad, it's still good, but I'm missing the tension and excitement of Aya and Mio's secret school battle romance.

Pretty good continuation, I'm still not sure I'm completely sold on the series but it's still been a good read as of now

When it turns out that Mio is in scholastic free fall, it turns to Aya and her other friends to save her from crippling game addiction. The reward for all this is a trip to Ex Japan and the girls are about to learn about true competition, plus the unfair nature of game patches.
Do I have the genre wrong? This is still plenty yuri-bait, but this could just as equally be seen as ‘cute girls do cute things’ without the cute things part, instead being replaced by competitive fighting. Either way it’s a delight.
The first section is your basic ‘gotta pass exams to have fun’ scenario, with the fun in question being a fighting game tournament. Mio is cornered into giving up fighting games to study, but the results of this are pretty funny, as is the back and forth between the girls.
Everything about these goofballs is a good, silly time, especially when their game gets balance changes and the patch notes set Mio and Aya against one another like an old married couple (Aya’s reaction to this is the image of the volume). Again, this story would have no issue being very queer if everybody wasn’t way too attached to their gaming.
We get introduced to some spectacularly ugly male characters and then our foursome is off to Ex Japan, which basically just keeps on with the ridiculousness and intensity that this series thrives on. It’s quite the contrast between all the sneaking around in the dorm to how the girls blend right in with the hardcore crowd at the tournament.
If I had to describe this volume in one word, I suspect it would be ‘rollicking’. From the crowds to the technology, to philosophy lessons from young girls, to the ridiculous Cafe au Lait, there’s always something going on.
There are stunning upsets, in-depth matches for some of our secondary characters, and we’re not even done yet. This is a story about enthusiasts being perhaps a little too passionate about something, but finding their people in the process.
And I love it. Some of it is dumb, some of it is ridiculous, but the core of friendship and camaraderie at the heart of it has helped me love every volume thus far. Yeah, maybe the girls could stand to be a little more differentiated, but even beyond the ‘girl beats girl’ set-up, there’s still so much to enjoy here.
I don’t think this would lure in the new reader, but it’s a great read nonetheless. I think it’s still blending its discussion of fighting game lingo with the particulars of its very involved fake game quite well and giving it all an air of verisimilitude that helps carry the less likely parts of the narrative.

This has now jumped to more of a shounen, but I'm not mad about it. That being said, I preferred the casual playing in secret with a group of friends vs. attending tournaments and conventions but it's still fun.

this manga is lighthearted and adorable, the main four characters are so cute! i wish we got a bit more info about them as the manga goes, but im still really enjoying the series :)
i hope mio, aya, yuu, and tamaki do well in the rest of the tournament!!! (i already bought the fourth volume)

I am usually more into a tournament arc, but I am not feeling the connection I am usually looking for towards the characters. Not quite invested. Enjoyed the school setting more.
