Blood Coven Vampire #3

Girls That Growl

Rate this book
Rayne McDonald thought getting into the Blood Coven was the hard part. But now there's a new breed of trouble in town...and the former slayer and her vampire boyfriend may be the only ones who can stop it.

Now that she's an official vampire and full-fledged member of The Blood Coven, Rayne assumes her vampire slaying days are over. Sure, she doesn't have any vampire powers, thanks to a mutated blood virus, but she and Jareth can go out in the sun, which is a pretty good trade-off.

But just when Rayne's starting to enjoy her afterlife, she's contacted by Slayer Inc once again. It seems that a member of her high school's football team has disappeared—and the powers-that-be think the cheerleaders had something to do with it. Now Rayne has to infiltrate the squad before the cheerleaders have a chance to sink their teeth into someone else...

Me encantó.

Girls that Growl by Mari Mancusi is a great addition to the Blood Coven Vampires series.

This book continues this series in an excellent manner all the while expanding the universe even farther. Our lead, Rayne, grows as a character which is a nice change compared to many YA novels where our leads stay the same throughout the entire series.

Mari explores lycan within this book alongside Rayne's character development. While this isn't my favourite book out of the entire series (this is actually my least favourite, when I look back at all the books - including the new one), I feel like this book does it's job - it moves the story forward so we can get to the next novels. Don't be turned away by this book - yes, it's not as great as the last two books but the following books get much, much better than this one. There always seems to be one book in a series that isn't as great as the rest (there has to be, not all books can be perfect) and this book is it in this series. The previous and following books are definitely worth reading this book so you can get to all the adventure and romance we love.

There is more Sunny in this book, but the main focus is Rayne. It's nice to see both girls have a bigger presence in this book!! There is also a bit more exploration of Jareth, for those who love him...

Overall, I enjoyed this book. Re-reading it was an excellent choice for me and I definitely suggest picking this book up!!

Five out of five stars.

This is the third book in this series, and although I don't think that it was as good as the first two, it was still pretty good. I like that these series always ends off on a point that leaves you hanging and wanting to read the next book. They give away a little to make you interested, but they don't tell you everything right away. Another thing that I really like about this book is that there is always something that the main character has to fix, or something she has learned about themselves. I know that this series switches between two twin characters, Sunny and Rayne, and I'm looking forward to reading more about Sunny, since only the first book has been about her. I like that the books are written in a funny way, so it's easier to relate to and enjoy while reading. I would recommend these books to people who like reading young adult books, especially if they like reading fantasy. However, I think that while this book has a fantastical element, they are also related to real life in the way the main characters are brought up and they way they act and feel.

“Obviously it takes eight brains to come to one decision in this crowd. Good thing they have one another.”

Wow this book was so much better than the first two. And I definitely feel like I'm an outsider on this series but it's okay I'm going to state my opinion and deal with it. I don't really know how else to explain without spoiling this book/series but I feel like the characters were like 50% better in this book than they were in the first two. It honestly could be because I've read so many fantasy books this week and/or month and that's why I'm so unbelievably picky but who knows. Even though I'm not 100% in love with every character and story line I'm definitely going to stick with this series because I would hate to have my first ever "did not finish" book. So I will definitely make myself suffer through books I don't like and give an honest review then drop them like a hit potato.

I already knew that the cheerleaders infected with werewolf's virus; I was just surprised that it's still about Rayne. I thought it would be alternating between the two of them. I missed Sunny because now that I know Rayne's character (she's a bitch), I'm not a big fan of her anymore. I'm so ready with other new characters' POV or go back to reading Sunny's story!

Rayne McDonald has a complicated life, not that she didn't ask for it. She went through the a complicated process of applying to become a vampire by taking classes, keeping a Blog of her process, and getting her blood tested in order to match her with her blood mate. It wasn't her fault that her dreams of becoming a vampire were destroyed when her assigned blood mate accidentally bit her identical twin sister instead of her. It takes a while, but everything gets back to normal until she finds out she has been destined to be a vampire slayer. Completely opposite from what she wants to be. Rayne is left close to death after her battle with the vampire she was sent to kill and had to be turned into a vampire herself in order to be saved. Her blood mate, Jareth, turned her even though now they are both "handicapped" vampires; the deadly disease that Rayne had caused both her and Jareth to be weakened. They are both vampires, but they don't have the super strength and powers commonly associated with the undead. Also, they can both go out in the sun without bursting into flames which is a good thing since Rayne still lives at home and needs to remain a high school student.

GIRLS THAT GROWL is the third book in the BOYS THAT BITE series. It picks up where the second book, STAKE THAT! leaves off. Jareth has become a beach bum since he hasn't seen the sun in centuries and now can enjoy it without perishing in a ball of flames. Rayne is feeling a little distance between them since he isn't dark and brooding anymore. She also gets her new assignment from Slayers, Inc which is to infiltrate the cheerleading squad since there have been suspicious disappearances from the varsity football team and growling has been heard coming from the girls' locker room after cheerleading practice.

Rayne is what you could call a Goth Girl. Dark, brooding, tattooed, and pierced. Goths are considered the lowest rung on the social ladder of high school cliques. Cheerleaders are her enemy and getting on the squad isn't going to be easy. In fact, she has to rely on blackmail to get herself on the squad.

After seeing proof of the werewolf problem with her own eyes, Rayne and Jareth decide to track down the problem from where it originated. The cheerleaders went to a cheer competition in England and when they came back from the trip the strange occurrences and disappearances began. So, Jareth and Rayne make the trek to England to find the local Lycan pack to get to the bottom of everything. What they find is a rogue wolf that wants to start his own pack and is resorting to desperate measures to do so. Rayne and Jareth face many challenges and dangers on this trip that test their feelings for one another.

Read GIRLS THAT GROWL in order to find out if Rayne can save the day once again and whether or not she has what it takes to be a cheerleader and learn to live with a blood mate that would rather surf the waves than dance all night at raves.

Review:

I can't say it enough.. I love this series! Another great addition to the series, Girls that Growl is funny, action packed, and of course a whole lot fun with some pretty hot vamps and some kick butt heroines. I just can't get enough.

Long Story Short:

Rayne is now a vampire slaying no powers vamp and she is given a mission, she must become a cheerleader. haha... now that is funny. Something strange is going on with the cheerleaders and boys are disappearing. Rayne is given the task to join the cheerleaders and find out exactly what that is. The mission leads Rayne and Jareth head off to England where they meet with another coven and a wolf pack.

My Thoughts:

Another awesome read. The books just keep getting better. Not only are their vamps and vamp slayers, now we have werewolves. Sounds good to me. The book was written in the same comedic style as the first two and I just think that Mari Mancusi is brilliant. I love the ironies in the story, the funny one -liners, and all the sarcastic characters. These book make me laugh out loud throughout the entire book.

Of course the same awesome characters appear. This book is told from Rayne's point of view and we get into her head a bit more with all her insecurities and fears. She started to have some relationship issues and he also starts to enjoy being a cheerleader and makes a friend. She is a very strange one indeed.

We get to know Jareth a bit better in this book and he is a bit different too. Being about to go out in the sun after some time being a vamp has gone to his head and he is now more of a surfer dude than a brooding vamp. Quite funny actually. Either way he is hot.

There was a serious issue addressed in this book, cutting. I really appreciate the way the author added this in and did it in such a caring way. Sometimes these issues bring the book down and sometimes they add to the story. This time it added and it didn't take over. It was something spoken of and dealt with in a loving manner between friends and it brought out some really good things in Rayne.

The book is a very fast read, exciting, and just way to funny.

In the End:

I think everyone should read this series and have fun with them. They are so spectacular.

wow. i loved this book. teenage angst. it takes you back to high school and all the crap you had to put up with. i love the character of rayne she is awesome. she is vampire, plus vampire-slayer. wow. that is something. this book has everything. vampires, lycans, cheerleaders. when she cried i cried. she has anger issues, but she has alot to deal with as well. there's mystery scary moments and romance. but it all comes out good in the end. wonderful book. i kinda of read in backwards order, this is the third one. but i am gonna read the other two back to back. and jan she comes out with the fourth one. and will be sure to pick it up.i dont know how you can read these books and not think about buffy. which is still my fav series and always will be.

(Im a spoiler(and 'spoiler' is just an understatement)!!..Beware)

Girls That Growl is the third book in Mari Mancusi’s entertaining teen vampire series. The story is narrated in first person by Rayne, whose character was also the heroine of the second novel in this series, Stake That!Rayne is back in all her ripped t-shirt and fishnetted Goth glory only this time she is even more snarky and snarly than ever before. As a “gimped” vampire, she has few vampire powers to speak of (in fact all she’s got vampire skill wise is immortality and the ability to send telepathic messages to other vamps.) She is having a hard time adjusting to being a vampire and she still can’t (or won’t) drink real blood. This could be why she spends most of the story in such a nasty bad mood, but her character’s constant ill temper and rash actions soon becomes more grating than entertaining.Girls That Growl is a mixture of teen chick-lit and supernatural fantasy. While it has some parallels with Buffy the Vampire Slayer – namely that Rayne has been chosen from birth to be a vampire slayer and she is forced to work for Slayers Inc. investigating supernatural mysteries – Rayne’s character lacks some of the humour and warmth of Buffy’s. Buffy was more of a team player and didn’t pull the somewhat irritating “I am the slayer, I’m going to do it” routine when people tried to help her out with her problems. While Girls That Growl is a fast paced and entertaining read, the background setting to the fantasy plot is a little weak in places. There is a “full-moon simulator shack”. How does that work exactly? How do you simulate the gravitational forces that the moon exerts upon the earth at full moon, in a shack? A vampire can transform from bat to human form and carry a gun at the same time. “How he transported that gun while in bat form, I’ll never know” thinks Rayne. We, the readers, will never know either - because these things are just dropped into the plot and skimmed over as quickly as possible with no explanations.

THIS WEEK MY TOTAL WAS 3HRS 10/10/11
10/18/11-10/22/11 Total for this week is 2hrs and 30 mins.
Rayne gets really sick because she had gotten infected with the disease that the evil vampire was trying to spread and kill all of the vampires in charge so that he could be the leader of all of them. Magnus almost got infected because the guy had gotten Magnus's blood donors infected. If Magnus were to drink the blood then he would of gotten really sick lost all of his powers and die. And dead Magnus= Unhappy/angry sunny which would be bad. I turns out that sunny and rayne's mom is not dating a vampire.
10/24/11-10/27/11 The total for this week is 3 hrs and 15 mins.
Rayne tells jareth that shes sick. he leaves for like 3 days. Rayne now hates Jareth it went from a total love to she love hates him. He came back with raynes dad who i might out said that he would go to sunny and raynes birthday with a cake and he didnt show he didnt even tell them he wasnt going to come. She had waited until 1 in the morning for him not to show. But her dad showed and she talked to him a little mad but happy to see him after like 4 years of her life with out him. then Jareth asked rayne if she wanted to get turned into a vampire and be his forever. she said yes, but because she has the disease they lost some vampire powers but they can go into the light now. Rayne now can finish high school with out problems.
10/31/11-11/4/11 MY TOTAL FOR THIS WEEK IS 3hrs and 30 MINS
Rayne had gotten told that she had to join the cheerleading squad. Yay. So Rayne asked Sunny for a total prep make over. Well she thought that she was joking but, sadly no. She goes to tryouts and meets this girl named Cait. She is sorta like Rayne in a way. They are both doing something that they would rather not do. Like Cait's mom was the captain of the cheerleading squad and she now wants Cait to follow in her footsteps. But Cait is really good though but she didnt make the squad last year because the other cheerleaders didnt like how she looked and she didnt have the same mean bone in her body like the rest of the cheerleaders did. But after tryouts ( by the way Rayne did completely terrible ) Rayne had black mailed Mandy so she let her and Cait on the squad.
MY TOTAL FOR THIS WEEK IS 2HRS 11/7/11-11/10/11
Rayne and Jareth found out why the cheerleaders are growling. There are growling because in england so they think they had met some really cute guys. ( they were there for there cheerleading compotition and these guys were showing them around england. They took the girls into the woods for like a bonfire get to know you thing. But the weird part is that the girls on the cheerleading squad dont remember that night at all. A couple nights ago after raynes first game for cheerleading they are changing in the locker room. Rayne just changes and gets out of the locker room. She felt a little sad because she is a cheerleader but she didnt get invited to the party. As shes walking out to go home she disides that going to the party could be the perfect time to go scope out and try to find out why the cheerleaders are growling. As she walking to the locker room door she could hear this weird noise. The locker room door wont open. Now she can hear the cheerleaders growling. At this point Rayne is pounding on the door yelling at them to open the door. She yells for help and jareth runs to get to rayne as fast as he can. He pulls open the door. The cheerleaders are gone but the locker room is completely trashed. Everything is broken and or damaged. Rayne and Jareth hear a small wimper for help. Cait was in the bathroom stall while they were trashing the locker room. Shes cut on her arm and wont let Jareth and rayne see it. Rayne thinks that she is infected. Rayne and jareth have to go to england to try to find a cure or else the slayer inc. is going to kill well put to sleep the cheerleading squad. YIKES!
11/28/11-12/1/11 MY TOTAL FOR THIS WEEK IS 1HR AND 30 MINS
Mandy came into the locker room and basically said that if rayne hadnt gotten cait on the squad they would be having this problem. just so cait heard mandy. She was trying to make cait feel bad. when cait heard that she ran out crying. when rayne found her she basically told ran to screw herself and to leave her alone. ouch. david raynes mom's boyfriend is getting pretty mean and annoying. He brings up a lot of touchy subjects all the time and it just makes rayne want to go cry. She absolutely postivively hates david. Im not so sure that i would like him myself.
12/4/11-12/8/11 MY TOTAL FOR THIS WEEK IS 2HRS
Rayne was really upset because david was trying to play "daddy" with rayne, and rayne's mom took davids side. Rayne left in her and sunnys car. rayne called jareth her blood mate. He kept telling rayne to pull over because she was starting to scare jareth. Rayne refuzed to pull over and she hung up on him. Rayne into the guardrail. She was out cold.
12/12/11-12/15/11 MY TOTAL FOR THIS WEEK IS 1HR AND 45 MINS
rayne and jareth went to england to find a cure for the cheerleaders;. The vampires in the english coven are snobish and mean. Rayne hates them. They are beyond rude. They are making fun of her clothes. Where jareth and rayne are from the vampires wear all black they are extreme goths. But in england they wear designer clothes. What? Rayne felt so embarressed. Jareth didnt even defened her. He just expected her to take it. They even made it seem like having rayne as a blood mate must be afful. What jerks. Well anyways when they finally got invited in the snobish vampires gave rayne and jareth the tour. The coven was beautiful absolutely gorgeous. After the tour the all decided to go to the library for some drinks. The special wasvery exspensive bottled blood. Yummy. There was just one problem. Rayne is still on synthetics. Synthetics is fake blood made in a lab for the newbie vampires who arent ready to start drinking real blood yet. But it still gives you all the nutrience that you need, or that you would get from real blood. Rayne asked if they had any synthetics but no they didnt all they had was more rude comments. Rayne had gotten to the point where she had, had enough she couldnt take it any more. Rayne whipped out her carved stake from the summer and last year when she was officailly a vampire slayer. She was like who am I? Who am I? Im am rayne the vampire the vampire slayer baby. Jareth and rayne ended up leaving imedetly. Yikes. Tomorrow jareth and rayne are going to find some answers and hopefully a cure. Because if they dont find a cure then they have to put down all of the cheerleaders. At this point rayne was missing the cheerleaders. How sad. But i think that rayne is actully starting to like being a cheerleader. I think that when the assignment is over rayne is going to stay a cheerleader. Rayne seems to be enjoying it.
1/3/12-1/5/12 MY TOTAL FOR THIS WEEK IS 2 HOURS
I finished the book. Rayned and jareth are so happy to be back together. Sunny was planning to have sex with magnus when she found out that he was getting a new blood mate. Plus she gorgeous. Sunnys pissed. Well thats all That I was able to get because i finished the book yay!

Girls That Growl is such a great title for this book. I couldn't put it down, it's so good as is the previous two books.

Rayne is the main character in this book too. I really like both twins, Rayne and Sunny. They may be identical but they have such different personalities. Most people see Rayne as the goth girl who no one really likes to be around. I find her a bit complicated but also funny. Rayne thought she was done as the vampire slayer but then she finds out that Slayer Inc. has another assignment for her. She must become a cheerleader and find out what is going on with the cheerleaders and where two of the missing football players are and what has happened to them. Rayne is definitely not the cheerleading type at all. So she must somehow convince her former best friend and cheerleader Mandy to let her on the squad.

The cheerleaders are not Rayne's only problem to deal with either. Her vampire boyfriend is becoming more of a surfer dude than the broody, goth blood mate that she fell in love with. Then there is her guardian and her mother's boyfriend David. Rayne has a lot to deal with and she is still figuring out how to be a vampire.

I am really enjoying this series and am excited to start the next book. If you enjoy reading urban fantasy and vampires you should start this series if you haven't already. This book has vampires, a slayer, shapeshifters, romance, lots of twists and turns and so much more!

Girls that Growl by Mari Mancusi is my favorite book so far in this series. The book's focus is on Rayne McDonald. This one focuses on her adjusting on being a newbie vampire and don't forget she is still the current Vampire Slayer. Her task on hand this time is to locate missing football players. Dark Goth Rayne must go undercover as a cheerleader to try to understand what is going on in the athletic department of high school. All while dealing with the vampire life, working on her love relationship with Jareth her soulmate vampire, she is about to meet a new supernatural being. Will she lose all that she has come to love in her life because of her quick temper and refusal to listen to common sense? Warning this book is going to leave you hanging and ready for book 4! thankfully Book 4 is out and ready for you to carry on to the next problem to face the twins.

Trattora, the young daughter of a Chieftain from Cwelt, along with her friends Velkan, Ayma and Phin are imprisoned and sentenced to death or long, hard labor. They have been accused of murder. They don’t have much time before they will be executed.

Now we find out why they are such formidable young warriors. Resourceful, creative and fearless. The team uses their strengths and abilities to accomplish amazing feats and win the day. Despite the odds being against them, they keep driving toward their goals.

This final tale of The Expulsion Project pulls everything together. It is exciting, edge of the seat action. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look for more of Norma Hinken’s writings.

~*Plot Summary/Review*~ This is the 3rd book of the Blood Coven series, and really, in my humble opinion, not as good as the first two. This book, again, is told in the POV of Rayne McDonald, a newbie vampire who is infected with the vampire virus and thus has no vamp powers. She still works, reluctantly, for Slayer, Inc. until Mr. Teifert can find a replacement.

Jareth, her blood mate, is enjoying life and also spending lots of time in the sun. Afterall, he's spent nearly 1,000 years as a vampire and away from the sun. Rayne is awful to him, and feels that he is spending too much time doing stupid things. She badgers him about his clothes, including his Batman T-Shirt. In case you missed my sarcastic tone; let me assure you, Rayne is a total idiot and tool for most of this book. It's not until the end that she realizes what a beetch she's been to Jareth and realizes that she was the one who broke off her friendship with Mandy, her ex BFF.

Sunshine aka Sunny, her sister, and boyfriend Magnus, the vampire master of the coven, are doing what Rayne calls her interspecies dating thing, and worrying about giving up her virginity to him. Sunny plays a very, very, minor role in this story.

Meanwhile, Teifert tells Rayne that she needs to infiltrate the cheerleading squad, since there have been reports of howling in the girls locker room. Rayne hates the cheerleaders, especially her former friend and current nemesis Mandy Masterson. Rayne refuses and Teifert reminds her of the nanobots in her body that can be triggered at any time he thinks she's not cooperating.

Rayne is still not drinking human blood, something Jareth tells her she needs to do otherwise she will waste away to nothing. Rayne can't bring herself to do it, so, she settles for synthetic blood instead. For someone who waited their entire life for a chance to become a vampire, and she became one knowing that she would have to drink blood, this makes absolutely no sense.

Rayne tries out for the cheerleading squad, and then blackmails Mandy into allowing her, and a new girl named Cait to join the squad. Rayne soon finds out that the entire squad, except for Cait and her, have been infected with lycanthrope, and each and everyone of the girls terrorizes the town. Teifert tells Rayne that he will have to kill them all if a cure is not found soon. Rayne finds out that the squad went to England on a summer trip, and that, in all likelyhood, is where they were also infected.

David and Sunny/Raynes mother are dating, and he moves in the house with them under the guise that his condo is undergoing repairs/remodeling. Rayne is summarily thrown out of her room by her mother, and forced into Sunny's.

Rayne gets approval to travel to England to find the cure for lycanthrope, after which she gets into a huge fight with her mother and David a guardian from Slayers Inc. Rayne storms out of the house and totals her VW Bug while angry and talking on the cell phone. Jareth believes she needs anger management counseling since she's still a newbie vampire and tosses her into a cell. She escapes by using Sunny as a Parent Trap like switch.

Shortly after arrival in England, Rayne and Jareth meet up with the Blood Coven of Northern England, where Jareth is happily met by several older female vampires who wrap themselves around him. They tell Rayne that Da Vinci, Michelango, Dante, and others are vampires living among them. Rayne embarrases herself, Jareth, and her own coven by pulling out her stake and saying she's a vampire slayer.

Rayne finds the Order of the Grey Wolf and tells them what has happened with the cheerleaders. Lupine agrees to provide a cure and tells her of the Lone Wolf who was kicked out of the Order for challenging him.

Jareth tells Rayne he's done with her hissy fits and moods and vows to break the blood mate bound with her. Rayne, devastated by Jareth's leaving her, ends up meeting the Lone Wolf/Rogue named Orpheus who tells her that she's to be his alpha female of his new pack. She finds Mike and Trevor, the missing football players in the same cave she's been tied up at.

Orpheus starts to attack and bite Rayne, Jareth arrives in bat form, and kills Orpheus with a silver bullet. He tells Rayne that he's had his powers back for some time now, but didn't want to tell her since she's been a real tool towards him. Seriously, that was my thoughts anyway.

David later reveals that there is a threat against her family. It seems her mother is hiding something from her daughters. "There's more to your mother than you realize Rayne." David has become the whole families guardian, or so he says. Rayne reluctantly agrees that David and her mom are good together.

Cait and Rayne make up. Cait joins Sunny and Rayne in saving the cheerleaders along with the very sexy vampire singer named Race Jameson. Cait finds help for her cutting, and Rayne stays on the cheerleading squad.

Mr. Teifert tells Rayne that she's no longer the main Slayer and that Bertha is back to work after being forced into losing weight and training. Rayne refuses to go silently into that good night, and gets Mr T to allow her to become a tertiary member knowing that her family has become a target from something wicked this way comes.

In the end, just as Sunny and Magnus are leaving to enjoy their romantic IE sexual adventures, Jane Johnson arrives from England. Magnus, the assmunch, tells Sunny that she's supposed to be his Blood Mate by order of the vampire council. DOH! ::eyeroll::

Girls that Growl: (A Blood Coven Vampire Novel Book 3)

Girls that Growl: (A Blood Coven Vampire Novel Book 3) OMG I can't stop laughing 🤭🥲🥹😊☺️... I cannot believe that Rayne has to try and become a cheerleader... I almost got into an accident while listening and my husband couldn't stop laughing especially for Ms. Goth herself...I was so absorbed in this series from page 1 of the first book . Between the audible book and book I can't get enough Definitely recommend this book / series - I can't wait to see what other trouble the girls get into the next book...

1.5⭐😔

As the blood coven series continues...
Does Rayne adjust to being a Vampire Slayer?
Will She help the cheerleaders and or will she
even be able to become one to see what's going
on with them?
Does Rayne begin to grow and learn who she is
and that she really hasn't been a very nice person
after all?
Does her and Jareth make it?
Will Jareth save her or leave her to die?
All these answers and more and then of course
time for book 4 in the blood coven series.

Third book of the Blood Coven Vampires series. After Rayne finds out about her destiny as the next vampire slayer and falls in love with emotionally scarred Jareth; She is sent on a mission to find out hat is causing her school's cheerleading squad is um growling. In order to do that she has tp gain some trust, which is not easy because Rayne is the resident goth in school and is the nemesis of cheer captain Mandy.

Content Warning: bully, self-harm
I loved the opening also known as the recap being presented as a letter to Joss Wedon about a tv show idea. Truly that made me laugh. The idea behind this one is pretty great ; werewolf cheerleaders being saved by a vampire slayer who's also a vampire is very interesting. I wasn't expecting the self-harm storyline but it was handled pretty well thankfully.
