Embracing Change

Rate this book
What would you do in your life if you knew you could not fail? What’s stopping you from having a go? Change is an incredibly exciting dynamic – it provides fresh inspiration, enlivens our senses, alters the way we see the world and can deliver outcomes so positive we can’t believe it took us so long to make the leap in the first place. But it’s the act of making the leap that keeps so many of us stuck.

Therapist Jana Firestone breaks down the factors that often make us so reluctant to pursue new goals – from core beliefs and anxiety to ego and the imposter syndrome – and offers concrete strategies to help us adapt and thrive. With a blend of professional advice, personal experience and real-life stories, Embracing Change is a key to unlocking your potential.

I signed up to Goodreads especially so I could review this book. Unfortunately the grinch in the other review has left a bad taste in my mouth as her review couldn’t be more wrong! Is Goodreads a troll environment? Sheesh!

I read this book in two days. I have read many, many, many self-help, personal development and psychology books and this one is the most refreshing, genuine, well-written I have read in years. The concepts are nuanced, personal, derived from real life experiences of the author, her clients and her podcast guests (which was very engaging in itself) and this writer clearly knows her stuff. This is taking the concepts and experiences we all have in our lives and making them relatable, and as she says, is bite sized and jargon free. It was a fabulous read and I’m not even in a place where I feel particularly anxious or stressed right now, but I do feel reassured, understood and better for having read this. This is a new look at the big things in life and I found myself turning the pages eagerly. How any reviewer could not see the expertise and skill it takes to write about these huge concepts in a relatable way clear needs THEIR head read!

I am looking forward to more work from this author. Honestly, anyone who knows anything about loss, anxiety, distress and has sought to look deeper to understand how and why and what, will absolutely love this book. And off to listen to the podcast I go!

This was a wonderful read. Heartfelt, thoughtful and filled with helpful ideas and expertise from a very experienced professional. Not your usual fare from psychology books with longwinded, dry explanations. This one is lighter on the head, easy to absorb and warm. I will be recommending this to many friends and their young people, as I think this book will be incredibly helpful. As the cover quote reads - it's a soothing therapy session in book form. But it's so much more than that. I picked it up because of the beautiful cover but I read it cover to cover. I think it's important work, important ideas all very well written and a practical guide to the major life experiences we all have. Excellent reading.

In all honesty this book really isn't worth a read. The title is essentially used to just cover a range of issues encountered in life but with not enough about each to actually be helpful. The summary sections don't really make a hell of a lot of sense. The author also makes references, for example to rage against the machine, but clearly doesn't actually know what the reference is. I nearly managed to make it through the whole book but stopped about 40 pages short because it was so pointless.

Yes, I thought this was really terrific. It hit home for me on many levels, which I won’t go into here. I will be recommending this to my friends and family. An excellent first book from a solid new writer. I would have liked a therapist like her in my day. The book was designed beautifully too.

I really enjoyed it and found it more helpful in other areas than I thought . I generally struggle with anxiety but found the other chapters more captivating and definitely food for thought. Well written and easy and enjoyable to read. Highly recommend reading if your feeling stuck 👌

I'd recommend this as a starting point for learning about yourself and human psychology. While the topic is heavy, it has been written in a simplified easy to understand way.
