I absolutely love Bones and Cat!! They are one of my all time favorite couples ever. I have reread their books so many times I have lost count. When it comes to this couple and this paranormal world I will never get enough. Reading The Other Half of the Grave was like coming home. I enjoyed every single word of this book. I loved getting to see things from Bones perspective. It made me fall more in love with him and I didn't think that was possible. Seeing Cat through Bones eyes added depth to her and that is saying something since I know I have reread the series at least 7 times. I didn't put this book down and read it straight through now I wish I could have more. As soon as the book ended I thought "I wonder what Bones' perspective is in other books like the Annette- Cat fight, chapter 32(if you know you know!) and the kidnap and torture of Cat from Max, and the whole Gregor thing. I've seen post from Jeaniene Frost saying she will be writing more Vlad books, and I can't wait to read them. Vlad is another one of my all time favorites, but I really REALLY hope Mrs Frost writes more books from Bones pov. I would read anything with Bones and Cat in it. Getting to live in their world again made me so happy. Now that I am finished with this book it has me craving more so I think I will have to reread One Foot in the Grave to pick up were this book leaves off. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves Bones and Cat and all who love Paranormal Romance, and I hope and pray there will be more Bones pov books in the future.

The Other Half of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
Night Huntress 1.1 but written after a dozen of the various series books. The same story as Halfway to the Grave but from Bone’s perspective.
An amateur female vampire Hunter tries to kill Bones and he’s more amused than worried. She’s determined and strong and apparently half vampire. A practically unheard of existence. He becomes enamored and they work together to eliminate his enemies.

I wouldn’t recommend reading this directly after the first book because it’s the same story. It has been updated for current technology but you don’t want to skip parts because you think you know what’s going to happen.
I would recommend reading this for anyone that’s read part of the series.
It’s AWESOME getting Bone’s perspective. We’re feeling his emotions from the depth of his hurt at a casual word from Cat or his pride in her training. The sheer joy he feels when she admits to caring for him and his despair when she can’t say the words.
Being in his head made this world complete and incredibly moving.
LOVED it so much.
I don’t generally reread books because of the number of new books I have yet to read. But I can see rereading, or listening to this on a regular basis. Even though there are tragic and sorrowful events in this first book, the magnitude of his love is so big, it makes it an epic love story. While still killing the bad guy vampires.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I have purchased a copy to keep as well.

Finally, we get Bones' point of view!!

I read this series so many years ago (the first book was 2007!!) and it is still one of my favorite urban fantasy books! Cat and Bones are synonyms of a great team.

Jeaniene Frost has given her readers a great gift. We are able to go back into the Night Huntress world but this time through Bones' eyes.

Bones is a British master vampire who hides some of his powers from Cat. As fans of the series know, when Cat (a half-human/half-vampire) met Bones she despises vampires and her only joy in life is to kill them. Of course, as Bones points out, Cat has only dealt with vampires that are not too strong. He offers to train her in exchange for her joining him in killing the vampires he wants to get rid of. It sounds like a win-win scenario. Yet, so many things happened in this one book including the beginning of their romance.

I absolutely loved it. The audiobook was fantastic. Bones was there with me everywhere I went. Sigh. Cat is one of my favorite heroines of all time. She grows more confident and deadly with each book. She also has a great supportive partner in Bones.

I can only hope we get another Bones book which I would read without hesitation.

So fucking good !!!!! And the cover so gorgeous!!! I love the colors used and the cover model is so sexy hot🔥! Ty! Jeaniene frost for writing a book from bones point of view!!! I wish we could get more romance books from a man's perspective! I get that romances are mostly for women so the female perspective is the one widely used but I personally like a man's take. I'm not the kind of chic who meets a guy and starts thinking right away about marriage or heaven forbid having kids. I just want to be in the moment so this right up my alley. Bones has always been one of my fave vampire book boyfriends of all time and I didn't think I could like him anymore then I already did but I was wrong!!!! He is one of the sexist vamps and Cat is one very lucky woman!!! The things he does with his mouth and hands and other endowments is totally mind blowing!!!! I've been a big fan of the Night Huntress books and the spin offs since my first book by jeaniene! I drove my library crazy for a couple of years getting every book by her through them and the interlibrary loans. I can't say enough about this writer. She is a fabulous storyteller and her characters as unique as they are memorable and I'm so thankful I was able to get a early copy of this through Netgalley and the book publisher. Until next time Luv's💗💋

Book 1, well, half of it, told from Bones' viewpoint.
Insta-love is explained.
I loved it, though from about 50% I started to skip the dialogues, and just focused on Bones' thoughts.

It was very interesting to read Bones' side of the story. I really liked his POV. This was a companion novel to Halfway to the Grave, which was published in 2007. The author updated this book to match current times (adding cell phones and Uber eats) and I'm not sure I'm on board with that, but I do understand why. Either way, it didn't bother me too much. One thing that has bothered me about both books

Overall I enjoyed this one and will probably continue to read about Cat and Bones.

I loved this book! It is no secret that I am a huge fan of the Night Huntress series. I have read all of the books and I have read most of them more than once. I adore this group of characters but as much as I love Cat, my heart belongs to Bones. When I found out that there was a book coming out from Bones’s point of view, I was almost giddy with excitement. I am here to tell you that this book is just as good as I had hoped it would be.

The basic story is one that I was already familiar with. Cat is half-vampire and has made it her mission to kill as many vampires as she can. In her quest to rid the world of vampires, she runs into Bones and realizes that she has met her match. They eventually team up and things only get more exciting from there. In Halfway to the Grave, we see the same basic story from Cat’s point of view but it turns out that Bones has a lot to add.

I absolutely loved seeing things from Bones’s point of view. It is great to see just what he was thinking about during certain pivotal parts of the story. I think that I like Bones even more than I did now that I know exactly when he fell for Cat and how he was looking out for her even when she didn’t realize it. Cat is not a fan of vampires and her hate for all of them is a lot for Bones to overcome but he is up to the job.

I would highly recommend this book to others. This is part of the Night Huntress series and I would recommend reading at least the first book in that series before starting this one so you can experience Cat’s point of view first. I am very hopeful that we will see more books from Bones’s perspective or really any additional books set in this much-loved world.

I received a digital review copy of this book from NYLA via NetGalley.

Initial Thoughts
I loved this! I am a big fan of the Night Huntress series and must admit that Bones is a big reason for that. He has always been a favorite character so when I found out that a book was being released from his point of view, I knew that I needed it in my hands as soon as possible. I love this new look at a much-loved story and I might even love Bones a bit more than I did before reading this book.

Not that I needed any reminding but Bones has definitely cemented himself in my top five all time favorite MMC’s.

It’s been years since I read Halfway to the Grave, I know I’ve read it at least three times. I mean this series is one of my faves so it was nice to get Bone’s side of the story after all these years.

If you’re looking for a brand new tale, you’re barking up the wrong tree. But if you’re looking to experience the first book again from Bone’s POV then this one’s for you.

The reason it’s one of my faves is the effortless banter between Cat and Bones. There’s so much animosity, especially from her end that it’s a pleasure to slowly experience the evolution from pure hatred to head over heels love.

Both characters are sexy af, both badass in their own rights, both forces to be reckoned with. If they didn’t end up loving each other, they’d destroy each other.

You’re introduced to several fascinating characters from Cat’s bigoted mom, Bone’s best mate Spade and his sire, Ian. I especially enjoy the how my perspective as the reader changes my feelings toward Ian throughout the series.

Best of all I love all of Bone’s British colloquialisms, he’s the reason I love when men call women Love and don’t get me started on his saying “Lucifer’s bouncing balls…”

Which brings me to the amazing narrator that I only just discovered and just like Bones has cemented himself in my top five male narrators. Will Watt, you sound like Tim Curry in the best possible way and it’s sexy af!

Cat and Bones are ALWAYS going to be one of my top couples.

It did take me more than a month to finish this book, but that's because I'd only just finished a reread of the whole series, and the first book was still so fresh in my mind that rereading it from a different POV wasn't as appealing as it could have been.

If you already love Bones, this book is just going to make you swoon all over again. It effectively retells book one purely from his perspective, and I loved seeing what he's thinking and feeling through all the major book one milestones - like, their first meeting, first night together, first fight. I am SO glad that Frost uses third person for her male POV. She's one of the ever-shrinking number of romance authors who recognise that in general, female writers just don't capture male POV well at all. It does make the prose a tiny bit stilted in comparison to her normal smoothness, but I think that's a worthy trade-off.

I've knocked one star off because weirdly, Frost has 'modernised' the book. The first one came out in 2006, or thereabouts, so there's a lot of modern technology (e.g. mobile phones) not mentioned. Although this book should also have been set in 2006, seeing as how it's THE SAME BOOK FROM A DIFFERENT POV, she's gone through and added references to modern tech which I just find weird and unnecessary. But anyway, that's a small irk.

I wouldn't want to read the entire series from Bones's POV, but I'm glad we got this much.

5+ stars - Paranormal/Vampire Romance

I only need to say one word for this review: BONES! I love the Night Huntress series, and Bones is one of my all-time favorite romance heroes, ever! I've always wished for his point of view when reading the Night Huntress books. Now, finally, we get Halfway to the Grave from Bones' POV, and it's so bloody good and sexy! I loved it! Big 5 stars!

I really hope Jeaniene Frost has plans to write One Foot in the Grave from Bones' point of view as well. I mean, we really need THAT famous scene from Bones!

February 11th, 2022 - IT. HAS. A. COVER. AND IT'S SO PRETTY!! Not the Bones I pictured but the author said that she was going more for a specific vibe than character accuracy. Personally, I think she accomplished what she set out to do! Still have my fingers crossed that I like the narrator that's chosen to do the audio book ♡

I'm glad that I inadvertently waited so long that he's going to have a full-on book from his perspective! URGH, I'm SO happy! Fingers crossed I like the narrator the publisher and the author pick for the audio book because I refuse to read this book in any other format!

Anyone who gets into this book should know that it’s a repeat of the first book in the Night Huntress series. However, it is told from Bones’ point of view. I adore Bones, so I found it fun to hear his thoughts and the actions we never saw.

I did take off one star and considered two for one reason. In his version of events, his feelings were very much insta-love, which is my second least favorite trope (first is miscommunication). In Cat’s version of events, it’s more of a slow burn. Apparently, he felt it right away. But it kind of took away from the build up, even though I knew what was coming.

If I am totally honest I don’t always love the write the book from the other half of the couple’s perspective, but to get to be in Bones’ head I’d reread this whole series from his side. I thought the author did a good job bringing the story into the technology of today but keeping the integrity of the story. I’ll admit it’s been years since I read the first Night Huntress book so I guess more of the details could have changed than it felt like, but I loved this story. I also really loved getting to see Cat from the outside. These are two of my favorite vampire characters and it was fun getting to watch them from a whole new perspective.

Bones is a vampire assassin who hunts other vampires. While on the hunt he sees a beautiful red head but he doesn’t have time to play so he sends her away and she leaves the bar with his target. Imagine his surprise when instead of watching them shag Cat steaks the guy and buries him. Bones goes back and tires to find who she is working for but Cat seems to be truly focused on killing him and all vampires because she is half vampire herself, an almost impossibility. I give this one 4.5 stars rounded up since there are no half stars

The Night Huntress series has been one of my favorite PNR's of all time. I can't believe it's been over 10 years since I first fell in love with Cat and Bones. Over the years it has been my highest reread series ever. There is something so special about this couple that grabbed a hold of me, and I never tired of them. So, when Jeaniene Frost mentioned on FB that she was telling the first book from Bones' POV I was thrilled. Now going in obviously my expectations were through the roof and honestly Ms. Frost exceeded them. I loved this book so much and Cat and Bones made me feel like meeting with old friends again. I also wondered how she would end the story and that Epilogue was perfect. Overall, The Other Half of the Grave was fantastic, and I already started rereading One Foot in the Grave.

I absolutely loved being back with Cat and Bones and getting his POV from book 1 in the Night Huntress Series. Cat and Bones are still one of my favorite couples.

The audiobook was narrated by a new to me narrator, Will M. Watt and he did a fantastic job with all the different accents. A few times when times when he did Cat’s voice, it was a little wonky, but all in all I really enjoyed his sexy voice.

Of course this is NOT a standalone and you must read the Night Huntress series, at least book 1. Fingers crossed Ms. Frost continues with the series in Bones POV.

Bones would have pitied the lad, if she didn’t hold the same power over him. One day, she’d realize that, too, and God help him then.
This is the third book I've read that retold a story from the male love interests perspective. The others were Grey and Midnight Sun. What interests me about these retellings isn't the characters—Christian Grey, Edward Cullen, and now, Bones—don't have rich inner lives worth exploring in a full-length novel; in fact, they often overstay their welcome quite a bit in their original books without wresting control of the narration.

No, I'm interested in the authors. Each of the original books was their first published novel, and its interesting to watch them revisit them years down the line. Grey had a more professional sheen than its fan-ficcy predecessor, and Midnight Sun showcases a far more confident authorial hand than Twilight. Both of those books kept the original text intact; this one plays more fast and loose.

The Other Half of the Grave starts with a somewhat ominous note from the author: to make it more palatable to younger readers, the technology that identified it as a product of the early 2,000's has been updated. That's fine. It's a pity it doesn't stop there. The very elements that dated Halfway to the Grave are more robust here, because Frost not only adds technological updates, but pop-culture references too: iZombie, Ted Lasso, and Tony Stark are a few examples. Three properties that will age like milk in the proceeding fifteen years just as beepers have now.
Bones intended to kill something tonight, too: more of her ignorance about vampires. Let her see them drinking, dancing, and enjoying themselves the same way humans did. Would do more to counter her mother’s bigoted teachings than a thousand of his lectures could.
Lecture is the operative word. Where Cat's perspective allowed for the story's themes to more naturally germinate, Bones perspective lands every "humans can be just as cruel as vampires" message with a bulldozer. It's preachy in a way the previous one wasn't, and not just about that. Bones has several PSA's about some of his actions that act as awkward disclaimers the author probably was asked about in the last decade:
What the hell was wrong with him, using a rape taunt against a woman born of rape? It didn’t matter that Bones would never do such a thing, or that Cat had been dead wrong about her part in their argument. He could’ve used any number of other ways to point out her bigoted hypocrisy. His taunt might have seemed like a ridiculously far-fetched example to him, but for far too many women, it was a brutal reality.
While this is obviously true, it doesn't read like an actual thought this Bones would have. He's supposed to be a two-centuries old bounty hunter with a devil-may-care attitude experiencing love for the first time — that's why his interactions with Cat were the draw, even if they could be predictable. It's overly didactic for its own good.

I did appreciate this one line:
Francesca’s face flashed in his mind. She’d hardly been perfect, but she was brave, strong, determined, and she’d deserved far better than this.
I wholeheartedly agree. It didn't change the awful treatment of Francesca at all, but I'll take what I can get.

How wonderful it is to be back in the world of Cat & Bones again!
Although I have already read this story (Halfway To The Grave) years ago, I was super excited to read it from Bones point of view.
The "Night Huntress" series is one of my favourites and I hope author Jeaniene Frost chooses to continue the series through the eyes of Bones.

Thank you to NetGalley and NYLA for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

CAT & BONES 4EVA ♥

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Other Half of the Grave tells the story of how Cat and Bones met through Bones's POV. This is a story we are already familiar with, but because it's now being told through Bones's POV, we get to follow Bones and find out what he was up to when he wasn't with Cat. We also get brand new Cat & Bones scenes and conversations that Cat never narrated to us in Halfway to the Grave 😍

We all know that Cat is a comedic queen. I love being inside her head. But lemme tell ya, Bones is pretty funny himself 🤣 I really enjoyed being inside his head. The man falls HARD for Cat and he's an A+ piner 😩 It takes time for Cat to trust Bones, let alone fall in love with him. But Bones was pining for her the entire time 😩 It's unreal how these two gave me the feels and butterflies all over again 😩

One of my favourite new scenes to read was Bones's interaction with Emily. It honestly brought me to tears 🥺 I loved seeing a soft, but fierce Bones who reassured Emily while also promising revenge.

It's so interesting how Bones views Cat here vs. How Cat views herself in Halfway to the Grave. Bones sees ALL of Cat: her strength, her vulnerability, her fears. He sees why she's the way that she is and he hates everyone who's been abusive to her and who's made her hate her vampire side. Of course, we already knew all of this from Halfway to the Grave, but reading it from Bones's POV really amplifies his feelings.

It was such a pleasure being inside Bones's head as he described events that we only ever saw through Cat's eyes. I always knew Cat's POV was limited, but this book made me realize it even more. Seeing everything through Bones's eyes made me realize that Cat doesn't see herself the way Bones sees her. She thinks she's invincible. She thinks she's good at hiding her fears. But Bones sees through it all and it makes him love her even more 🥺

I honestly forgot how much the ending hurt me 🥲 Bones's reaction when he finds out what Cat did 🥲 Bro, I couldn't handle it 🥲 The pain 🥲 I actually reread a bit of One Foot in the Grave to reassure myself LOL 😂

The references to technology in Halfway to the Grave are obviously dated, so the author modernizes the technology in The Other Half of the Grave. If you're new to the Night Huntress series, I recommend starting with Halfway to the Grave because the entire series is told through Cat's POV.

P.S. The epilogue!! I'm so glad she added that pivotal scene from Bones's POV 🥺

Jeaniene Frost returns to the Night Huntress world with another book. But this time, we get a glimpse into Bones’s mind. For a lot of fans, this is something that we’ve been asking for for a long time. However, I never thought that she would actually do it.

Now that years have passed since the last books, I feel like it was a nice refresher to return to this world. We get to see new details of familiar scenes and characters as well as delve deeper into the mind of Bones. I don’t know if Frost has plans to write more books like this, but I do feel like it was comfortable to read. I wouldn’t mind it if she started writing a new series which Bones as the main narrator. It’s not often we get to see a male as the lead for an entire series.

I just finished the completed book. I absolutely loved this story from Bones's perspective. I absolutely love Bones. The story was fresh and new. Especially since it's been so long since I read the original book. Now I want to reread the whole series!

I do recommend this not be your first experience with Cat and Bones as Cat's pov is missing and it shows in some places. Happy reading!

This first finished date is just the serial chapters JF poster in her news letters. I'm looking forward to the full book.

Wow...I started this series back in 2011 and enjoyed every book that I read. However, my favorite will always be Cat and Bones. It was a no brainer that I would be gobbling up Bone's POV.

And I don't know if it was the time lapse or just not remembering but this was sooo good. I LOVED how much Bones LOVED Cat...almost from the beginning. And it was great seeing how he set things up.

The one thing I didn't like was the epilogue....ugh!! I needed that to continue - IT WAS THE BEST PART!!

I absolutely loved the Night Huntress series about Cat and Bones so finally getting his point of view was a must read for me. I can honestly say I'm not disappointed and its just as detailed and passionate as I'd hoped. It's an intense story with fabulous world building because obviously Vampires do have a hierarchy that this book starts to give clues about. Expect action and plenty of it, twists, loads of heat and best of all Bones feeling and being the most patient, loving Vampire that any reader could wish for. It's intense at times, funny too but these Vampires don't mess around and I'm already very eager to go back and re-read the whole series again !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

This book is essentially the same base story as the first book in this series, and while the novel is presented in 3rd person, the story is from Bones's POV (whereas the first book and the rest of the books in the series are from Cat's POV).

I won't rehash the plot since it follows the same lines, but I will say that I enjoyed getting Bones's perspective. It was interesting to know that for him, it was a love at first sight/"mine" reaction. A good read that flowed quickly and had some steamy good stuff on the side ;)

Please note that I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

"Anyone who’s been in a relationship knows that couples can have two versions of the same incident, and both will swear that their version is correct. Such is the case with how Bones remembers things versus how Cat did. Hey, I’m not going to tell Bones that he’s wrong. This is his story, and he’s sticking to it. —Jeaniene Frost"

The Other Half of the Grave Book Review
The Other Half of The Grave: A Night Huntress Novel by Jeaniene Frost
A Retelling of Halfway to the Grave in the male POV. I *think* you can read this first, but you will want to continue the series, as this does not stand alone. Paranormal Romance.

Back in 2008/2009, I was reading all the paranormal romance I could get my hands on, but The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost stood out as my favorite, and it is the only paranormal series that I have continued since then. Though I’ve kept up with Cat and Bones through their friends' stories, it had been a long while since I re-read the first book in the series, Halfway to the Grave .

I had intended to do a re-read before The Other Half of the Grave released, but I decided to enjoy it like a new story instead of picking it apart with comparisons. I am SO GLAD I did it that way. There was a lot I didn’t remember, and since it’s the same story from Bones’s POV there were plenty of scenes that were the same events, but we get to hear them from Bones’s mind.

Quote from The Other Half of the grave

There were also plenty of scenes that were completely new, and it was cool getting to see what Bones was up to when he was away from Cat. Since we can’t see how much Cat actually likes Bones in this, her stubbornness and vampire hatred sometimes got a little frustrating to read about, I just wanted to shake her, because I knew how amazing Bones is now.
“Yes, she was fantasizing about ripping both of her weapons through his heart while he was feeling things he’d only heard of before, but who said romance was perfect?”

I can’t tell you how much fun I had coming back to this world. As soon as I finished I wanted to jump right to One Foot In The Grave (Night Huntress Book 2) to find out what happens, but I also now wanted to listen to the original from the OG POV, Cat’s. So in the end, I bought Halfway to the Grave on audio then jumped right into One Foot In The Grave.

Now I am re-listening to the whole series, and let me tell you, its spot at the top of my favorites list is well-deserved. If I was reading it for the first time today the series would still jump right to the top of my favorites list with everything I love: Action/adventure, romance, characters I want to be friends with, amazing banter, funny moments, and hot sex.
“I love you, Bones.” Light exploded through him. He’d never known joy could detonate like a bomb, but it did, and it filled his whole soul.”

I usually do Likes and Dislikes here, but I literally loved every word. I admit it, I am completely biased because I will take any scraps of Bones and Cat that I can get, and I’m thrilled to say that they did not disappoint. I am so happy to start the series again and be back in the Night Huntress world, that I may just have to get the whole series and all its spinoffs on audio and re-listen to it all. The *only* thing I would have liked more is if it was first-person in Bones's head.

One note: Jeaniene Frost updated some elements of the story. Beepers were replaced by cell phones and some more current references were added (like comparing Rodney to Ted Lasso).

The Down & Dirty:
The Other Half of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost was everything I could have dreamed of. I was nervous, because I've read a few other books that totally changed my opinion of the hero after reading their pov (and not in a good way). I was glad I went into this without a recent re-read of Halfway to the Grave (until after) because I wasn't comparing the two, and The Other Half of the Grave felt fresh and new. I loved reading this almost as much as I loved reading the first book so many years ago, and that's saying a lot, because I have read thousands of books since, and it still remains a favorite. If you are a fan of Cat and Bones, or you just want to start a new series, I 100% recommend The Other Half of the Grave.
Rating: 5 Stars, 4.5 heat

Purchase The Other Half of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Audible is a $3.49 Upgrade

There are spin-off series about other characters that intersect with the main series. Personally, I would recommend reading the first two in the original Night Huntress Series before reading The Other Half of the Grave because there is a book 2 spoiler at the end.

The Base Night Huntress Series is listed here. But the entire Night Huntress World reading order is HERE.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
