A humorous Amish Romance that had me laughing out loud many times as I read the book. I always enjoy any book I read by Jennifer Beckstrand because her books are uplifting and entertaining. I found this story to be original, easy to read, fun and a page turner. This was a different type of Amish story because readers don’t usually find Amish characters getting involved with politics.

Mattie Zook has always been different than the regular Amish ladies. After she sues a disagreeable neighbor her Father sends her to live with her Aunt Esther and Uncle Levi who live in the small town of Byler Colorado. When the Town Council decides to limit the Amish on where they can drive their buggies and where they can’t Mattie rolls up her sleeves and gets involved in trying to overturn the unfair new law. Since the Amish are passive people they do not get involved in politics. Mattie is on her Rumschpringe so she decides to run against Bill Isom in the upcoming election for his seat in the town’s council. Bill is a bully who runs everything in town and Mattie wants only to be a voice for the Amish people. Bill will do whatever he can to tarnish her reputation and make her look bad to the voters.

There’s a lot about running in an election that Mattie doesn’t know about. Cathy Larsen, an Englischer friend of Esther’s steps up to the plate and volunteers to help Mattie with the election. Cathy gets Freeman Sensenig, a very handsome unmarried Amish man, to be Mattie’s Campaign Manager. Freeman is concerned about what Bill plans to do to Mattie to make her look bad. Freeman tries to talk her out of running for Council telling her how foolish it would be. The Amish people are against her running for office and Esther tries to get Mattie to change her mind. Will Mattie stand up to Bill and continue to run in the election for town council or will she listen to her Amish Campaign manager and learn to quilt instead?

I recommend this book to readers of Amish Fiction and to those who enjoy a fun read. This is book 3 of The Amish Quilt Makers series. This book can be read without reading the other 2 books first although Characters are bought over from the other books to this one. This book is scheduled to be released on 10/25/22.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are my own.

This is an Amish Fiction. and this is the third book in the Amish Quiltmaker series. I really love the main character in this book, and I love to have a book that has an Amish character that stands up from themselves. I know that is not the Amish way, but I know chances are there are some that do. I found this story to be so much fun to read, and I really love the mix of characters. I really laugh and smile several times while reading this book. There is a small romance part at the end of this book, but I would not say this is romance. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zebra Books) or author (Jennifer Beckstrand) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unconventional Niece by Jennifer Beckstrand is book three in her Amish Quiltmaker series.

Mattie Zook has never been bound by Amish conventions and now is no different. She’s living with her Aunt Esther Kiem in Byler, Colorado and running for election to the town council. Freeman Sensenig had better get on board or get out of her way.

Freeman Sensenig is a sensible young Amish man, and he can’t believe that Mattie really means to run for election. She’s bound to get her feelings hurt, and he plans to be there to protect her even if she insists she doesn’t need protecting.

Jennifer Beckstrand adds another excellent installment to a great series. She expertly maintains the series continuity. We see the progression of old characters and are introduced to new ones. The characters are all well-conceived, fully-developed, and vibrant. Beckstrand continues to use humor in all the right places and completely engrosses the reader. The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unconventional Niece is a 5 out of 5 star read, and I highly recommend it to all readers of chaste romance, especially Christian romance.

My thanks to Kensington Books, Zebra, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.

Mattie Zook is in her rumschpringe but instead of partying with the Englisch, she is standing up for what she believes is right. When doing so means she sues a neighbor, her father sends her from her Pennsylvania Dutch home to live with her aunt Esther Kiem in Colorado. His plan backfires when Mattie becomes outraged about local discrimination against the Amish and runs for Town Council. Freeman Sensenig doesn’t like Mattie much – he finds her stubborn and opinionated among other things – but somehow he ends up being her campaign manager. As the campaign wears on, to his surprise Freeman finds himself drawn closer to Mattie and wants to protect her at all costs. Mattie also finds herself drawn to Freeman but will getting involved with him ruin her dream of making things better for the Amish?

The Amish Quiltmaker's Unconventional Niece is the delightful, wickedly funny, third book in Jennifer Beckstrand’s Amish Quiltmaker romance series. Just when I think the series can’t get any better or funnier, Beckstrand surprises me – I think this is the best one yet and I loved the first two books in the series! Mattie is a delightful character – headstrong, not a typical Amish character, outspoken, opinionated, brave, willing to fight for wrong even if it alienates her from other Amish, yet not wanting to hurt those closest to her. Freeman is also a good character – also a bit headstrong and opinionated but a hard worker, dedicated and loyal to those he cares about. Together they make a great couple and they had me smiling through much of the book. I also laughed through much of the book – Beckstrand has a wicked sense of humor, especially with Cathy’s character – easily one of my all time favorite characters in any book series! The race for Town Council was nicely done with the perfect ending. Well done by Beckstrand!

The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unconventional Niece is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed the story of Mattie and Freeman. This is not your usual Amish story and it was refreshing. Mattie is sent to Colorado from Pennsylvania because she took it upon herself to sue her father’s neighbor which doesn’t follow the Amish ways. Mattie goes to stay with her Aunt Esther and gets involved in a controversy there in Colorado. It is also a fun and witty romance between Mattie and Freeman. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books/Zebra for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.

Fun book. Mattie Zook is a very unconventional Amish woman. She is headstrong, opinionated, vocal, and always ready to fight for what is right, even when it goes against her Amish upbringing. At home in Lancaster, she went so far as to sue a neighbor for dumping garbage on her family's land. In desperation, Mattie's father sends her to live with her Aunt Esther in Colorado.

But instead of learning her lesson, Mattie finds herself embroiled in another controversy. Furious at a local ordinance discriminating against the Amish community, Mattie decides to take advantage of her rumschpringe to run for town council. This decision does not sit well with her new community, but Mattie is determined.

Local farmer Freeman Sensenig is one of those who disapproves. He and Mattie clashed from the moment they met. Freeman is just as opinionated as Mattie and is vocal in his opposition. But something about her brings out his protective side, and he finds himself secretly serving as her campaign manager.

I enjoyed following the ins and outs of Mattie's campaign. Her opponent is an arrogant man who will do anything to win. Meanwhile, Mattie gets a crash course in politics with the help of a local Englisch woman. I loved seeing Mattie run a focused and clean campaign that appealed to those who were tired of the incumbent's antics. It isn't an easy campaign, as there are obstacles that she must overcome. A bit of trouble causes Mattie to rethink her decision, but in the end, the principal of the race wins out.

I liked the development of the relationship between Mattie and Freeman. They are both stubborn people, and because of that, many of their interactions are contentious. Freeman is vocal in his disapproval of Mattie's plan but also worries about her safety and feelings. Mattie is adamant that her feelings are not so fragile that she can't take whatever her opponent dishes out. It was amusing to see Freeman's confusion over why he is so concerned about Mattie - after all, he doesn't even like her! Meanwhile, Mattie isn't sure why she feels so much more confident when Freeman is nearby - all he wants is for her to withdraw. There comes the point when Freeman realizes his feelings and that he needs to support her to make her happy, while Mattie faces a decision of whether to quit or go on. I liked Freeman's "aha" moment and the sweet scene that resulted from it. The ending was terrific.

I enjoyed the variety of characters. Aunt Esther disapproves of Mattie's plan but can't stop her. However, she can try to distract her and gives it her level best. Fortunately, Mattie sees through the attempt and finds an interesting way around it. Caleb is Esther's seventeen-year-old brother-in-law and the tool she uses for distraction. Caleb is a typically awkward teenager who is no match for Mattie's determination. It isn't long before Mattie has him helping her despite his fear of discovery. Sarah and Sadie are Freeman's eighteen-year-old twin sisters who are firmly on Mattie's side. I loved their enthusiasm and involvement. Cathy is the older Englisch lady who is the moving force behind Mattie's campaign. She was quite an interesting character, as there were times when I wasn't sure what she would say next.

Fun story! Freeman doesn't know what to think of the newcomer Mattie Zook. She is very outspoken, and he is shocked when she decides to run for city council. There is an ordinance in their town that affects every Amish citizen and she is determined to see it overturned. So she decides to run for city council and that stirs up all kinds of trouble. He secretly works with her campaign, since the Amish don't mix in to politics at all. Through all of the struggle, Freeman and Mattie grow closer together in their unique way. A wonderful story that is fun to read!

A delightful read from beginning to end, I loved how Mattie sees a problem and jumps right in to try an solve it, even if her methods are frowned upon. This was an enjoyable book, that brought a smile to my face, and more than few good laughs.

I loved how Mattie found support from the Amish and Englishers alike, even winning Freeman to her side as their differences shrink in light of working together. I liked how she was patient with Caleb, while convincing him to join her campaign.

Lighthearted and engaging, this was a fun read with a unique spin to it. Cathy is such a wonderful supporter, with a passion for the town and plenty of good ideas, with a knack for drawing others in. A fun read, filled with humor, romance, and wonderful characters, you wont want to miss this unconventional adventure!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I love this author's vibrant characters and the unique situations they find themselves in! Mattie can't see injustice and not do something to solve the problem, even if it bucks Amish tradition. Being disliked or rejected because of her actions can be lonely, but she has a small group of friends who support her efforts, including the non-Amish Cathy, an older lady from Esther's quilting group full of plenty of quirks and spice. Freeman is reluctant to help since the Amish leaders are watching him closely, and I loved how he stepped up to help in the background. As always, there is a fun humor woven into the small-town drama, and this book was a pleasure to read. The character growth of both Mattie and Freeman brought depth to the story, and their chemistry grew with a steady burn. Loved their romantic moments!

I enjoyed reading this book very much. Mattie Zook's family has sent her from Pennsylvania to stay with her Aunt Esther in Colorado. Her aunt has one toddler already, and with another baby on the way, she could use the help. However, the main reason her family sent her was to get her out of their Amish community and let the people there cool down. Mattie has a strong instinct for social justice and is also so outspoken that she has disturbed quite a few people there.

Unfortunately for peace in her new community, the local city council decided to ban Amish horse drawn buggies from using most public streets in the community - a law that would require the Amish to travel much longer routes. Mattie's decision to run for city council herself was not popular in her new Amish community.

Meanwhile, her aunt was trying to entertain her by arranging frequent visits from a boy younger than she was (and colorblind) to work together on puzzles. Needless to say, he had a little difficulty with that. Mattie has another interest as well - a handsome local farmer, Freeman Sensenig, who is helping her with her campaign, even though he disapproves.

My thanks to publisher Kensington Books, Zebra and NetGalley for a review copy of this book. It was a fun read, and a pleasure to read and review.

The Amish Quilt Maker’s Unconventional Niece by Jennifer Beckstrand was a very different type of Amish book. Mattie came to live with her aunt and uncle as punishment by her father because she filed a lawsuit concerning a neighbor. Mattie was sent to Colorado from Pennsylvania to live with her aunt and uncle.

Mattie decides to run for city council after an ordinance is passed stating that the Amish buggies cannot travel on the main roads in the small town. This will cause some trips that would only take 10 minutes to now take one hour. Mattie is very upset and decides that she is going to run for the City Council. She has not been baptized so she can do this. Most of the Amish people are not in favor of her trying to win the election, but some are supportive and many of the Englishers are happy to have her. Mattie has a older English woman who is helping her with her campaign. She also enlists several of her Amish friends to help. Freeman along with his twin sisters help Mattie. There is a very nasty man who holds the position now that most people would rather see off of the council. Mattie’s campaign has many ups and downs. There is a love interest, actually two and some of the chapters are very funny.

I highly recommend this book and I’m giving it five stars. I received a copy of the book from NetGalley.. The opinions expressed are my own

Jennifer Beckstrand gets my vote with “The Amish Quiltmaker's Unconventional Niece”! This is the third book in “The Amish Quiltmaker’s” series. It can be a stand alone book, but the first two were so great that you will want to read them all.
Mattie Zoom moves from Pennsylvania to Colorado. Colorado is nothing like Pennsylvania. It’s dry and dusty and has very few people. Things go from bad to worse when thr Town Council passes a law stating that Amish buggies aren’t allowed on main roads. Mattie is the only person who wants to fight against this law and she does it by running for the town council. She makes some new friends and enemies along the way. You have to read this book to see how the story plays out!
I love how the author weaves in all of the characters, new and old. We see a great deal of Esther and Levi from book one. Cathy, a driver for the Amish, is one of my favorite characters. I hope Ms. Beckstrand writes more books in this series! I want to thank the author, Kensington Books and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Mattie Zook files a lawsuit against a neighbor who is dumping trash on her family's farm in Pennsylvania. Her father decides to send her to stay with her Aunt in Colorado because filing a lawsuit is a very un-Amish thing to do. Mattie is soon embroiled in fighting injustice again in Colorado when she decides to run against a hateful town council member who has put an unfair restriction on the local Amish to prevent them from driving their buggies in town. Freeman Sensenig is looking for someone to court and he thinks Mattie is beautiful but also thinks she is snobbish and out of bounds with her actions. He is soon embroiled in her campaign as well (campaign manager), much to the chagrin of his father and the bishop. This is a fun tale with lots of surprising twists and turns.

I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.

In this third book of the Quiltmaker Romance series, we meet Mattie Zook, a very outspoken Amish girl still in her rumschpringe. She believes in standing for what is right and finds out that her actions are not very accepted by the Amish. Rather than being non-confrontive, she chooses to stand up against issues that are aimed at the Amish. Her father actually sent her from their home in Pennsylvania to Colorado to her aunt’s home as a punishment for her action. While in Colorado, she becomes very upset over actions against the Amish there and decided to run for town council against a very combative Englisher. Everyone in town becomes involved in the battle for council seat.

This is an enjoyable read as we see lots of humor and matchmaking taking place. Englisher, Cathy, and Amish young men, Caleb and Freeman make this very interesting reading! I receive a copy of this book from Kensington Books, Zebra and NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

I’ve come to love Jennifer Beckstrand’s books because of the quirky characters. And oh my. Mattie is definitely a quirky, fun character. But we always find these quirky characters have huge hearts and feel deeply.

The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unconventional Niece will keep you laughing as you’re cheering Mattie along. And her suitors. Two of them. Whom will she choose? Read this book to find out. You’ll be glad you did. I mean, where else will you find an Amish maedel running for public office?

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unconventional Niece by Jennifer Beckstrand is book 3 in the Amish Quiltmaker’s Series.
Another wonderful book by Jennifer Beckstrand. It’s never easy to walk against the flow and that, which is expected of you, however if you are true to yourself and follow you own path than it becomes easier with each step because you know God is walking right along side you.
Mattie Zook has always been a little unconventional yet at the same time she wants nothing more than the best for her family, friends and community. Truth be told she see’s it as her true path in life to help those who won’t help themselves, this has caused for more than one heartbreak for those closest to her.
Can Mattie find the balance in her life and still be true to who she is or will she be Destin to be a disappointment.
Freeman Sensenig knows Mattie is very unconventional and yet he is drawn to her, can he or will he be able to follow the path towards his heart or will that path lead him to heartache with those he loves as well as his community.
This book is unlike your typical Amish Romance and at the same time it’s so surprisingly Romantic. It’s unconventional true to the foundation of faith, love and following God true plan for yourself, if you dare to walk alone you will eventually find you were not ever really alone and your path becomes so very clear.
I really liked the book and would suggest you read it as well as the whole series
I thank the publisher Kensington Books,Zebra and Jennifer Beckstrand for the advanced copy of this book. However the opinions are 100% mine. I would highly recommend it.

This a solid example of why I'll always pick up a book by Jennifer Beckstrand. As ever, her stories are full of humor, heart, and memorable characters who would be a hoot to know in real life. Mattie has been sent to Colorado by her stern father as punishment for pursuing a lawsuit with a neighbor, something that is not done among the Amish, and especially not by young women! But Mattie can't help it: when she sees a wrong, she feels moved to make it right. Not long after her arrival, another wrong presents itself, and the best way Mattie can think to fix it is by doing the unthinkable--running for town council herself. This puts lots of new people in her path, including Freeman, a staid young man who thinks Mattie is snobby and foolhardy...but also awfully intriguing.

This was a pleasant read that was just complex enough to be interesting while still staying blissfully low-angst. I like how the Amish way of life, and their values of separateness from the outside world, aren't ignored, even when they complicate things. The characters find a way to do what's right without compromising themselves or their beliefs. I loved all the side characters, from crotchety Cathy to Freeman's young sisters to poor, sweet Caleb. I was disappointed in Mattie's aunt, though. She was unsupportive to the point of being disrespectful and Mattie never got the apology she deserved from her. Still, this was a great deal of fun and I'd heartily recommend it for any fans of Amish romance.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Finding God’s path for you even if it’s unconventional

I loved Freeman and Mattie’s sweet Amish romance. The story is filled with all the emotions, the connections and the love plus, real relatable issues are addressed and resolved. Because of her unconventional choice at home, Mattie has been sent from her community in Leola Pennsylvania to stay with her aunt in the Byler, Colorado Amish community. Freeman is in the community and the son of a potato farmer. Despite the sparks, Freeman and Mattie clash from their first meeting. But when Mattie decides to run for town council to try to overturn an unjust buggy ordinance, Freeman agrees to assist her in secret. Freeman and Mattie are real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really trying to just do their best to follow God’s path and be good members of their community. On the way to their HEA, Freeman and Mattie have to deal with lack of support from some community members and learn to trust their own hearts and beliefs to find their way to a loving, respectful, and faith based relationship. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, strong friendships and family, real life issues, imperfect characters, misunderstandings, laughs, and so much love. Jennifer Beckstrand did a phenomenal job of drawing me into the tale which allowed me to feel a part of the story and the characters’ lives rather than a simple observer. The emotions, issues, and challenges the characters face are universal and could easily be experienced in any segment of society. Expect to feel all the feels when you read this book - joy, sorrow, anxiety, love, and relief. You’ll definitely laugh, cry, gasp, and grit your teeth. I especially loved Mattie’s internal monologue. I willingly reviewed an early copy of this book.

Good synopsis, poorly executed.

I'm sorry but the protagonist was unbearable to me. I swear, she gave me eye twitches every time she got mad at Freeman or anyone out of the blue. I feel like she was very childish in certain parts of the book and generally reckless with her own situation ☠️ The town council situation was so boring for me, I was tempted to jump from one chapter to another on many occasions.

This is a personal opinion but the romantic relationship didn't feel that romantic, Freeman and Mattie would have been better as friends, although they did have a really passionate kiss, huh. There is nothing grumpy x sunshine or one of those tropes, they are just two young people who fall in love due to the circumstances that bring them together.

I never read anything with Amish people so I had trouble understanding certain words, looking up their meanings was frustrating tbh.

The Amish Quiltmaker's Unconventional Niece might interest you if you like fmc heroines, small towns, (conventionally attractive) amish boys. This book may not have been for me but it might work for someone else!

The Amish Quiltmakers Unconventional Niece is a extremely humorous book written by Jennifer Beckstrand in her Amish Quiltmakers series. I absolutely loved this story as well as the characters. With the reappearance of Mattie, Levi, and Cathy from previous books the author has done an excellent job telling her story. I laughed so much throughout this story because of quirky Cathy. A young Amish woman decides to run for town council because of an unfair ordinance banning Amish buggies from using the main roads. The journey of the election takes some unexpected twist. It is doubtful Mattie will continue her quest when attacked and ends up with a broken ankle. This story will definitely keep the readers turning pages to see what happens next. This author is known for her humor within her stories and this one is no exception.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. Congratulations on another wonderful story Jennifer Beckstrand.

This book is fun and different. The story line is a bit "unconventional". It does not follow the path of usual Amish Non-Fiction, this book has our heroine stepping into the Englischer life while in Rumspringa by joining the town political arena. The fun then ensues and shows us to be strong in our convictions and trust in Gott's will. I had the pleasure of reading an early copy of this book with the agreement that I would offer my honest and unbiased review. I so appreciate this privilege. Release Date October 25, 2022.

The story a wholesome Amish romance, but is so much more. It is the story of a strong young Amish woman's struggling with her faith and desire to fulfill anger inner desires while maintaining there faith.

Mattie's desire to run for town council is a challenge she can't resist, but she is doing it for her community to help fight the discrimination of the Amish. Many in the Amish community don't see it this way and are horrified by Mattie's choices.

I found the story enjoyable and was enlightened by the beliefs portrayed by the Amish characters presented in the story.

The characters, plot and individual events were believable.

The Amish Quiltmaker's Unconventional Niece by Jennifer Beckstrand
Book 3 of 3: The Amish Quiltmaker
Quilt making, troublemaking, and matchmaking create a sweetly entertaining mix in this inspirational romance series featuring resourceful Colorado quiltmaker Esther Kiem—from USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Beckstrand, beloved, award-winning inspirational romance author of the Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill, The Honeybee Sisters, and The Petersheim Brothers series. Will appeal to fans of Charlotte Hubbard, Amy Lillard, and Emma Miller.
Mattie Zook always stands up for what’s right—which is why she’s been exiled from her Pennsylvania Dutch home to her Aunt Esther’s farm. Outraged at local discrimination against the Amish, she’s using her rumschpringe to run for town council. Esther can only hope that sensible local farmer Freeman Sensenig will help Mattie—and keep her from going too far. But Mattie is soon finding her new campaign manager all too appealing . . .
Freeman never thought that the standoffish, opinionated Mattie would care so much about others. Even more amazing, their differences are somehow making her campaign successful—and have him hoping for more of a future with her. But unexpected obstacles and a sudden romantic rival will put their growing closeness to the test—and give them only one chance to truly reconcile their hearts . . .
This is Mattie Zook's story.
This is Esther Krem's story.
This is Freeman Sensenig's story.
This is Caleb Sensenig's story.
Mattie Zook was a little ashamed, sort of resentful, and very irritated.
But hopefully, none of these emotions showed on her face as she serenely stared up at the minister, pretending to listen to him and getting madder and madder by the minute.
It was unfortunate that the sermon was on Matthew 5:22—the verse about it being a sin to be angry. By feeling so mad, Mattie was sinning even while she sat right there in church. That probably counted as a double sin.
How could she be anything but angry when her dat had sent her to this dry, barren place in the middle of nowhere—so remote that even the trees looked like they didn’t want to be there? As soon as she’d stepped off the bus in Monte Vista, Colorado, her skin had dried up like an overtoasted piece of overbaked bread, and her lips had cracked in three places, even while plastered with a coat of Vaseline. Her head hadn’t stopped throbbing since yesterday, a condition that Aunt Esther called “altitude sickness.” Who in the world wanted to live in a place where you could get altitude sickness? It sounded like a dread disease with no cure.
Mattie sighed inwardly and tried not to be mad at Aunt Esther.
Aunt Esther stood, shuffled past the women in her row, and led Winnie out behind the barn to the outhouse. Winnie was potty training, and at that age, the bathroom waited for no minister. Most Colorado Amish had indoor bathrooms, thank Derr Herr, but the outhouse was a convenient addition for church services. Gmay was always held at the house of one of the members, and the bathrooms got a lot of use.
Mattie really liked Aunt Esther, even if she was the reason Mattie was no longer in Leola, Pennsylvania, with her friends.
Aunt Esther had moved to Colorado two years ago, adopted Aunt Ivy’s baby, and gotten married. No doubt Dat had sent Mattie to Colorado because he thought Aunt Esther would be a gute influence on Mattie. And because there wasn’t anybody in Colorado for Mattie to sue.
Yet.Aunt Esther was going to have a baby, and though Mattie wasn’t planning to be here long, she hoped she could be some help to her aendi. Aunt Esther made beautiful quilts that sold for hundreds of dollars at a shop in one of the ski towns. Mattie didn’t quilt, but she could do dishes and laundry so that Aunt Esther had more time to quilt. Aunt Esther was sweet and quirky, and Mattie wouldn’t mind getting to know her better. Esther always had a needle or quilting clips attached to her dress and a piece of chalk tucked behind her ear. Ach, vell, a piece of chalk or a straw or something else that might come in handy. This morning, Aunt Esther had a pencil behind her ear. Did she even realize it? Should Mattie tell her?
After the sermon and the hymn and a very long, very dull, and ineloquent prayer, the reverent group of members became a beehive of activity. Two men whisked the bench out from under Mattie almost before she stood up. Men and boys took the benches to the lawn and configured them into tables for the fellowship supper. The women set bowls of church spread and bread on the table, along with big pitchers of ice-cold lemonade.
But Freeman’s twin is a girl, so no one has trouble telling them apart.
Freeman’s apparent annoyance at being interrupted by his sister gave way to a brilliant smile when he looked at Mattie. Okay. Maybe it didn’t matter that he sang too loud. He was wonderful handsome. “You’re Esther’s niece. She said you were coming from Ohio.”
Sarah cuffed him on the shoulder. “Pennsylvania, Freeman. She’s got a Pennsylvania Amish kapp.”
Freeman held up his hands. “Okay. Okay. Pennsylvania. I didn’t notice her kapp.”
Sadie leaned forward and whispered loudly, “He doesn’t notice anything. That’s why I don’t think he can tell us apart.”
Freeman wrapped his arm around Sadie’s shoulders and pulled her close to his side. “Of course I can tell you apart, Sarah. You’re my favorite schwester.” Sadie elbowed her bruder in the ribs. He grunted and grimaced in mock pain. “Ach, that really hurts, Sarah. I’m changing favorite schwesteren.”
I recommend this book.

Another wonderful story by author Jennifer Beckstrand! You will fall in love with Mattie, not your ordinary Amish maidel! Sent to Colorado to help her Aunt Esther prepare for the birth of her second child she finds way more action there than she bargained for..... An Amish woman running for an English position in city Government, oh my! All the while attracting the attention of 2 young Amish suitors. How can this possibly have a happy ending? A delightfully funny story!

This was a great story. It shows what you need to fight for to stand up for something for your rights as a community Is important for all involved to protect the community. The city council was banning horses and nughes on the streets but it was fight for to protect the amish community. Great story of love and inspiration.

What does an elderly woman, an Amish young woman and an Amish young man have in common? You must read this book to find out. Jennifer Beckstrand has a way of writing that is entertaining and enjoyable. You won't want to put this book down. You will laugh at times, at other times you will feel like you want to help Mattie! I highly recommend this book, you will not be disappointed!

The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unconventional Niece by Jennifer Beckstrand is an amusing Amish tale. It is the third book in The Amish Quiltmaker series. It can be read as a standalone if you are new to the series, but you will be missing out on some entertaining stories. Jennifer Beckstrand has an engaging writing style. Her stories are easy to read with humor throughout. I loved Mattie Zook. She is a spunky Amish woman who will fight for what is right. Filing a lawsuit nor running for an office are the Amish way, but Mattie is not going to let that stop her. Freeman Sensenig and his twin sisters (Sarah and Sadie) were fun. I enjoyed the sibling banter (and bickering). There is a great cast with differing personalities. Cathy, an Englischer, who supported Mattie running for office (in her own way) and let us not forget the color-blind Caleb who likes to work on puzzles (he breaks out in a sweat when he lies or does something he feels is wrong). We get to travel to Byler, Colorado which has a small Amish population. I did not blame Mattie for trying to get the new Amish buggy law repealed. If you cannot travel the main streets, it is next to impossible to get anywhere by buggy. There is a touch of romance. I am glad it was not the predominant feature in the book (there was just enough). I had mixed feelings about the ending (I do not want to spoil it for you). I like that the author left us laughing. We do get to catch up with the characters from The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unexpected Baby and The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unruly In-Law. The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unconventional Niece is a fun, unconventional Amish novel. I was sorry when my time in Byler, Colorado came to an end. The Amish Quiltmaker’s Unconventional Niece is a witty tale with an unbalanced buggy law, sassy twin sisters, a plethora of puzzles, unkind election hijinks, beholding a bevy of sunsets, and campaign consequences.

Mattie Zook is a handful. She knows what is right and is loyal to the core. In fact because of her deep seeded need for justice, her father has sent her to Colorado. At first you do not know why but it has her troubled. She misses her home in Pennsylvania. Where the air is not so dry, and she surrounded by what she knows. In Colorado, it is a little different. The Amish community is quite small. Her first meeting with her neighbors turns out to be a war with words. Freeman who is the oldest and is not in any hurry to marry was a little irate by Mattie and her opinions. In fact they both were little put of by each other, until they came together for a great cause. A local council member of their small town had declared that the Amish could not use public roads in town. Mattie and her the help of her aunts English neighbors, decide that she should run for public office. She is not baptized and is not part of the community but she feels the unfairness of the ordinance. However, her own aunt is not sure about Mattie's political endeavors so she has her own way of putting a wretch in the wheel.

Of course there is all kinds of tension and I thought I was reading about our last election and hooligans' that was going on. However in this election, there is humor, romance, and revealing of what really matters in this fun political Amish romance.

A special thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
