I'm haunted.

Not by ghosts, but by a face I can't quite remember. Eyes that shine so brightly each time I see them, are now nothing more than a hazy memory.

I'm consumed.

The thoughts that whisper so quietly inside my mind when I'm sure I have this evil inside of me under control are becoming more persistent.

I'm lost.

I know where I need to be, but not quite sure if I'll get there. Will she ever show her face to me or will I always only see a blank slate of nothing?

There are only a few simple things I know to be true:

I'm not a messy man.
I'm not a serial killer.
I can stop anytime I want to.
I am NOT crazy.

Story 5/5
Narration 5/5

The killer, Guy, should take an appointment with a therapist.
He has a lot of issues!!! 🤯
This story was brutal, vile and immoral .
I enjoyed every seconds!
The narrator voice is WOW! His voice is perfect!
I have a thing with voices. 😁
Yolanda Olson’s stories are always so depraved, I love to read them. I don’t know why I wait so long to read this one. Maybe I was waiting for the audiobook.
I highly recommend it!!
It’s not for everyone.

HOLY....WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST READ?!
I just finished editing this ... truly disturbing, psychologically fucked up, realistic horror story. Those words do not do this story justice when it comes to how twisted it really is. And that fucking ending ... I can predict shit pretty easy, but Yola totally got me with this one. I did not see it coming even as I flipped to the final page. It literally felt like I was trapped in the mind of a fucking psychopath, and those are my faves reads. The ones that make me question my sanity. Be prepared. That warning label, "There really aren't enough warnings for this one. Read at your own risk," isn't lying. It takes a lot to make me put down a book, and I almost put this one down. Almost. It is one of the darkest books I've read, and it fucked with my mind. This book will stick with me forever. Buy this sneaky, dirty fucker, and test your boundaries.

I was scared of reading this book after reading the spoilers

This is one of the first books I saw on Tick Tok where someone was talking about how gruesome it was, and it got me curious. I didn't understand extreme horror. I only know about the movies, and normally, in movies, they only kill adults.

Anyway, the mmc is delusional. Keep telling me one thing, but do it anyway. The way he talks in the beginning feels like he is going through a midlife crisis. Like he needs a psychiatrist.

He was kind of boring even when he killed. It's like he's excited, not excited. MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!!

After reading, no one rides for free and broken dolls. It desensitives me to certain types of violence.

So yeah, he wasn't scary. But the ending was cute.

"My smile makes people trust me.
It's tragic sometimes."

This book had my mind so, so twisted! It's the hardest i've read.
Thoughts from it and of it came on my mind every other day since i read this one.
I could have choosen to no write a review, but i can't. Because i can't hold my thoughts.
It was awful to read it. The images are stuck in my head. And God, as a mom, i can't and won't understand why someone would even think of the things written in Bones.

My disappoinment comes from the fact that the blurb doesn't describe the book. It has nothing to do with it.
It sounds amazing. I thought i was going to read something good (or something bad!!) - anything but what i actually found.

I love horror books. I love horror movies!!-They are my favourites!
But this one? This is not horror. This is a terrific thing to read. So short and so well written that it will stay with you a long time after finishing it.
That's the thing. The book is too well written - if that even exists. Because while reading all those things - you start to see them so vividly - it's kind of amazing if you think about it.

The main character - the man who considers himself NOT a killer - it's a disease. He is insane. He should be locked up somewhere and no one should mention him ever again. He should simply disappear.
After i got to the end i realized that for him i have nothing. No pity. No mercy. No hate. Nada.
Get out of my head, Guy.

OMG!!! This book is AMAZING!!! I am a huge fan of Yolanda Olson's leading men and Guy Burress is right up there with the rest of them!!! If you are a fan of blood, gore, and sick leading men...this book is definitely for you!!

This book is dark, twisted, crazy, and left me with more questions then I had when I first started reading...and that is a good thing ;-) Yolanda has a way of sucking her readers into her stories and not letting them go - even after the story ends.

There are a few scenes in this book that left me with my mouth open and in pure awe of Yolanda's dark mind. I have never found myself rooting for the crazy...but I did with this book!!

Guy Burress is a sick man with a fascination for skulls. He has a small collection and is biding his time until he can complete his collection with the object of his desire. We get to follow along with Guy as he waits to get his most prized desire. Guy is a leading man that you will not forget!!

The ending to this book is absolutely PERFECT!!! I was left with so many questions and need to know WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!

I HIGHLY recommend this book to loves are dark horror stories. You will not be disappointed with Yolanda Olson's latest masterpiece!! Very WELL DONE!!!

When the character is introduced as
I'm not a messy man.
I'm not a serial killer.
I can stop anytime I want to.
I am NOT crazy.

You know the book is going where not many people to dare go.
But yolanda' brain doesn't follow the prescribed norms. Never has !
It's a dare kind of disturbing story, few VERY cringe worthy moments. Read at your own discretion !

Trigger warning; this book has some pretty dark content. The worst of which involves and infant.

Overall the book had some good bones, but it felt unfulfilling. The ending especially felt rushed, incomplete and confusing.

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up for that ending! I didn’t see it coming and it’s perfect.

I would consider this story more splatterpunk, as it’s messy messy. High gore factor, do not go in blind!!!

This probably wasn't the best book to start my horror journey on, ngl. I have seen it floating around on mutual's shelves, as well as on social media, and, since I've been wanting to delve into horror for a while now, I took it as a sign to read this since it seemed to be everywhere.

(No major spoilers, but, if babies/kids being harmed/killed are a trigger for you, I will include a spoiler at the very end that tells you what to expect and you can choose to look at it if you want. There are no trigger warnings in the book, which is the reason I'm including a slight description for anyone that wants to know what happens but doesn't want to read it or maybe just wants to see how bad it is before reading it.)

All in all, to me, this book felt like it was random scenes shoved together and written purely for shock value rather than to tell an actual horror story. In my mind, there's horror, and then there's whatever this was. The scene with the 14-year-old girl? That. . .the detail that went into that scene turned my stomach. It was one thing to read about someone being killed--considering it was to be expected since the mc is a serial killer--and unexpected things aren't bad since it's always nice to be surprised and to be kept on your toes when reading, but this went way beyond that for me. And I managed to find a rare trigger. I'm usually one to skip the warnings at the beginning of books because of the fact I don't have many triggers at all, so I can't say I would've heeded one had there even been one included in this book, but I definitely would have stopped once I got to that part, since I realized what was possibly about to happen, and went to check the trigger warning in this case so I knew to skip over it. I think this just wasn't the right "horror" book for me, as I went into it expecting, I don't know, more of a leaves-you-thinking-and-maybe-partially-disturbed sort of disturbed, and not I-wanna-rinse-my-brain-with-bleach disturbed kind of psychological-horror, maybe? That doesn't exactly sound right to me either, but, all I know is this didn't feel like horror and, instead, just felt like it was a book with horrific things in it. . .pretty much the only way I know how to explain my thinking process.

And, honestly, with the kid/baby situation aside, the rest of the book was kinda boring to me. It seemed interesting at first--being inside the mind of a delusional killer convinced he can stop whenever he wants but obviously can't--but it failed to hold my interest for a majority of the read. Also, the ending was kinda whack, imo. At least, that's just my take as an unseasoned horror reader, so take all that as you will with that fact in mind lol.

Spoilers for baby/kid triggers:

I'm including pages and percentages of when these things happened(on kindle), but it could be slightly off for you given the different word fonts and sizes on the app effecting that so be mindful of that if you truly want to skip over it all. You might want to skip a couple pages ahead or after what I mentioned just to be safe. If you want to be even more careful, just skip Chapter 6-11 and pick up at 12, which is where the scenes with the baby/kid end. Chapter 4 and 5 have them in it as well, but it's basically just introducing them as well as explaining a little about where the mc does his killing. No harm is done to them during those two chapters.

In the spoiler scenes, to give a little insight, the mc has a pregnant woman and her 14-year-old daughter trapped in a room where he plans to kill them.

Spoiler for what happens to the baby:

Spoilers for what happens to the 14-year-old girl:

Ho Ho.. what a read. Yolanda, ya did it again.

Let's get introduced to our main man: Guy

You read the blurb. He's got something inside. But he aint crazy. Nah. Crazy just means you can't control it. Just a bit OCD, is all.
___________
A good man would care, but I’m not a good man.
___________

As with most of Yolanda Olson's characters.. you know these men are a bit .. special. Guy is no different. The more you read, the more you're curious.
___________
There has to be something I can do to prove to her that I’m not an ordinary man and that she would enjoy more than the small conversations we have when we see each other.
___________

I love it. Who is this elusive girl?

Guy. So calm. So controlled. Oh, readers you'll get your fill on the misdeeds of our dear Guy when his demons come out to play. But yet he remains so .. calm.. it almost calms the reader as well.

But dear readers, you knew what you were getting into when you picked up this book. Come on.. let's not skirt around the truth. If this isn't your first book by Yolanda Olson ... we're practically family now. We can be honest.
___________
Vanilla people are very quick to judge what they don’t understand.
___________

There are acts in this book that really aren't for the faint of heart. But Guy .. dear Guy. I do enjoy your so called mundane existence. It's actually exciting to witness all the lulls before the storm, so to speak.

Readers.. this will be a book you'll remember.

That ending. THAT ENDING. couldn't help but close the book and just laugh to the heavens.
___________
Things aren’t always what they seem, are they? I try not to judge things by how they appear on the outside.

Such an Intellectual

First, if you can, read this w the audio Bc it heightens the experience. The Narrator doesn’t just read to you. He becomes Guy and just makes it that much better.

Second, please oh please read responsibly. That means read the warning. This is not for the faint at heart.

Ahhhh Guy. This dude is so smart and self aware. He’s not crazy. He’s not a killer. And he’s not a smoker. He has complete control over everything and can stop anything at anytime. Everything he does is by choice. So stop thinking otherwise.

So was Guy talking about me at the end? Do I need to be careful of who knocks on my door next?

"I was always fascinated by skulls. The way they look when he skin and muscle are peeled away; the solid, smooth feel of them when they're cleaned properly makes my body ache. I wouldn't say that I'm sexually aroused by the actual skulls, its more the detachment from the human body, the taking off the multitude of layers that makes my cock hard. I don't have many yet, but I'm getting there."-Bones Prologue

AND that's how it begins. In my entire existence I have never once heard human skulls described in such a way and damned if I didn't like it. I liked the shear insanity of it all. This guy... who's name is fucking Guy by the way (not making this up), he's completely mad. Fucken crazy. Bat shit ass insane. Worst of all, I loved it. Loved his bullshit. All the ups and downs of Guy's crazy world. Hate myself for liking him at all. He's horrible and in the real world, I'd want to murder him. Hell, he's given me some great ideas as to how to go about murdering him. This Guy's conflicted psycho OCD filled emotional all over the place bullshit has got me pinned between feeling pity or rage. Part of me wants to know what his mother did to him as a child and the other part wants to be the one to throw him into his own cage and watch him squirm. Maybe both. At the same time.

I wont go into the specifics of the book, but be warned as there is murder, non-con, rape, mutilation, more murder, stalking, self harm, more murder, and a fucking wall of skulls. Not for the feint of heart. Guy isn't playing games, he will kill you. He will do so utterly brutally. I mean really fucking violently and he will save some of you for later. Maybe you might make the shelf. Maybe you wont.

A twisted tale

I've read a lot of fucked up things but this definitely wins the "Most Fucked Up Thing I've Ever Read" award. Guy takes you along on a journey of madness, his madness though remember he's not crazy (or so he says) the descriptions of his delusions and his justification for everything is masterfully done.

Title: Bones
Author: Yolanda Olson
Genre: Horror
Type: Book 1 of La Douleur Folle
POV: First Person - Male
Rating:

Guy Burress had a plan – to find the centerpiece of his beloved collection. But he might need some distraction while searching for what he wanted.

First, let me say oww… lol! This book is gory, and it’s been a while since I had a physical reaction while reading. I wished there was more background on Guy. But I liked being in his head with his denial and contradictions.

Bones is a story of ultimate desire. It would appeal to readers who enjoy a short, graphic horror read.

A Blushing Book Review
Bones Yolanda Olson
I can’t decide if I loved or hated this book! This book will have you dancing with the devil!
A dark psychologically horror story with no trace of romance to be seen. This is not for the soft of heart it has major disturbing scenes within that will leave you stunned, revolted and sick to your stomach.
Reading this story has you venturing into the mind of a psychopath and quite frankly it is not easy to read, in fact I had a hard time digesting some of it. The problem is that the story is so well written it has you testing your own sanity by not wanting to put the book down and continue reading.
The story is intense, graphic and twisted. The darkness of it will continue to haunt you well after you have finished reading.
Guy (the main character) is a very sick and twisted individual who is a serial killer in denial and a surprise ending that will leave you chilled to your bones.
This book requires big girl panties so consider yourself warned!
Blush Rating: 0
Romance Rating:0
Dark Rating: 5+++++
Overall Book rating: 3 ½ stars maybe? I don’t know could be 4? Like I said before I don’t know if I loved it or hated it but in saying that it is very well written.

Audio Review:
Narrated by: Guy Burress
Length: 2 hrs and 44 mins
Language: English
Guy Burress’s deep baritone voice is the perfect match for Yolanda’s main character Guy. He created spine tingly goose bumps in the intense graphic scenes throughout the novel and intensified the pure evilness of the character through his flawless tone and depth.
This is a short audiobook compared to most being just under three hours but be grateful because you will not be able to concentrate on anything else while listening to this dark & twisted story.
Narrator review: 5/5
Matched to Character: 5/5

I beta read a copy of this so I won't give anything away. For those of you who like dark, you're going to love it. For everyone else like me who can't watch horror movies, read fast and hide under the blankets. It was intense, I read faster at times because I needed to know what happened next right NOW. My heart raced, I was grossed out at times wondering how on Earth the author thinks of this stuff.
Yolanda always leaves me thinking what the!!! at the end. This time it was totally different, I'll admit I didn't even 'get it' until some time later and laughed my head off when I did....then checked under my bed.

Don’t know what I expected but DAMN!! This book was insane. Had to take a few days to process what I read in this one. I was left mouth agape and at a loss for words.

Guy Burress is a stalker wrapped up in a serial killer. I also found him to be quite hilarious. I seriously got a kick out of his personal denial of factual events as a means to contradict his actions.

I’m not a smoker…
I’m not lost…
I’m not messy…
I’m not a serial killer…

Guy’s partial face blindness has led him to chase the unobtainable. The one woman who’s escaped his full consciousness. The one woman who can calm his inner turmoil and sate his beast. She’ll become his final masterpiece and is pivotal in helping him complete his own wonder of the world.

To pass time while he stalks his perfect woman, we enter the doors of La Douleur Folle and it is nothing I expected. I though it’d be a kink club where blood play was acceptable…yeah that was sooooo not the case. That place almost reminded me of “Head in the Clouds” from Altered Carbon. Basically the most deviant things you can desire will be fulfilled there for the pleasure of both sides - the giver and the receiver.

You know it’s always the charismatic one that get you in the end. They suck you in with those good looks and people skills and pounce in a way you least expect. This also reminds me that the psychology of people is a fascinating study and a rather malleable thing too. For with the right pushes most tend to ignore their inner alarm bells and follow behind bad guys. The fear of rejection and disrespect driving forces alongside FOMO…were so simple sometimes it’s depressing.

Yet what left me flabbergasted was the last few pages of this book!! Talk about a mindfuck of epic proportions. I won’t give it away but I know you’ll be left wonder WTF right alongside me.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I started with trepidation; I love dark but I also know this author writes black dark, borderline horror. So I put on my big girl panties and dived in.
For the most part I loved it, it was sick and twisted and one of those "I can't believe she went there" book. Whilst it had me gasping and occasionally retching I couldn't put it down.

Told from a male POV the book was too fast paced; I think it needed slowing down a little. More plot and character development and the reasons why he did what he did. More backstory. It was a good story just crammed into a novella sized book. The ending was just there! Bam! And I was kind of left feeling like there should've been more.

It was a good quick read and I will definitely read more by this author.

This is one horror, mind bending read from Yolanda, it's not one for the faint hearted, and not your typical HEA. So be warned.

Guy is a man that is in total control of his life, but doesn't lead the normal life like others. You could class him as a deviant, a serial killer, but he knows that he can stop at anytime. It's a compulsion not like others, that he feels he needs to do the things he does.

He has a beast within him, that needs to be fed from time to time, a part of him that requires trophies to be kept.

This is a read for all dark read lovers, it's not for the faint hearted. Yolanda has a way of writing that would push anyone's boundaries.

I was one of the lucky ones to Beta read this book and I have to warn you it is not for the faint hearted so head all of the warnings but in saying that, if you are a fan of Yolanda's books then you are in for a real treat.
I' m not going to give anything away but if you like to read pitch black stories then Bones has it.
I was so engrossed with the story and everything the Guy does and thinks that it was doing my head in (pun intended). At times I was questioning the sanity of Yolanda and also myself. The ending is spectacular so take a chance and take a walk to the dark side.

My first thoughts after reading this story is, if Yolanda ever flips her lid, someone is going to be in a world of hurt AND its times like this that I am happy I dont live close to her. Like most of her books, (yes she does actually have ones that dont involve mutilation and death) THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. Again, she takes us down a long dark road into the mind of a crazed psycho. Drawn to one, but has a few distractions to take care of first. Pleasure and pain sometimes go hand in hand, and for Guy, your pain is his pleasure!!

First off, to say that this book is disturbing is somewhat of an understatement. "It's a good thing that I'm not a smoker", if I were, I would have become a damn chain smoker!! One scene in particular was especially difficult to read, deeply disturbing and pure evil. There were many other times in this story that I questioned myself and wondered wtf am I reading. That being said, do I recommend this book, yes!! Especially if you like dark reads that leave you wondering what the hell did I just read?!

Guy. I don’t think I have the right words for Guy. I mean, how do you explain having such an unhealthy interest in following a serial killer’s story after merely the first chapter? Yet, that’s exactly what happens. Guy allows the readers into the depths of his dark, cold mind, and allows them to see him so close, experience every emotion, understand every reason of his twisted, yet sounding so normal, mind, that it becomes impossible not to get inexplicably infatuated with his enigmatic persona. He’s brutally honest, he’s dangerous and pragmatic, he’s in control and he’s on the verge of insanity… He’s your perfect unreliable protagonist who you will never forget. A true must read for all fans of dark fiction.
