From the best-selling author of You'll Come Back to Yourself, Poems for the Signs is a highly anticipated collection that explores the twelve astrological signs through poetry.
Starting with Aries and ending with Pisces, it's a collection about looking for love, self-reflection, depression, healing ancestral patterns, and finding beauty in being alone. It has themes of astrology, finding yourself, dating, family, grief and loss.
Poems for the Signs asks you to look at all of the parts of yourself and give them a little more love.
Michaela Angemeer (she/they) is a queer Canadian poet who’s passionate about sharing her healing journey and inspiring readers to spend more time with their feelings.
They’ve published four best-selling collections of poetry including When He Leaves You, You’ll Come Back to Yourself, Please Love Me at My Worst and Poems for the Signs.
Michaela’s newest book, There Is Room for All of You Here, is an excavation of the past that leads to a celebration of queer love. It’s about complicated family relationships, reconciling with your insecure attachment style, finding a healthy love, and building something you hope will last.

Poems? Yeah sure Poems about Astrology? Not so much
Yesterday the doorbell rang so I had to pause reading, went to open it, had a quick chat with the postman, fed my cat and then went back to this book, read 5 full pages only to realize that I had no fucking clue what sign we were talking about.
I would say it's 30% about the signs and 70% about the emotional journey of its author.
I am happy for her that she seems to appreciate and loves herself more and all that stuff, I really am, but then maybe write about that and don't bait me into buying something that it's not.
And I am not saying that the 30% that are actually are about the zodiac signs are bad because they're not totally terrible, for example I liked how she introduced every sign by listing things that make her think of each of them.
While some poems did make sense, but most of them did nothing for me. It felt like we were going in circles as she uses the same topics for every single sign.
Love. Relationships. The fear of being alone. And that over and over again.
My favorite was probably the Virgo chapter, where it's suddenly all about being a feminist and having mommy issues, like it's somehow a universal experience for all Virgos to not get along with their mothers.
I just don't understand why the author didn't stick to the classics, like when I think of Virgos I think of honest, straightforward people who use logic over emotions in the right moments. Like my grandma, for example, who is amazing and who by the way doesn't have any mommy issues.
But seriously why are there no poems about the most obvious characteristics of every zodiac sign???
I also love how in the introduction of her book she wrote that she was going to be "brutally honest", which made me so excited since I expected her to write about both the strengths and the weakness of the zodiac signs and maybe roast them a bit. But in the end I guess she chose to write about neither and I am still wondering where the "brutally honest" part was as this book is about as deep and dark as a children's picture book.
I think she roasted Geminis once (ironically not in the Geminis chapter though) but then again calling us "two faced" is far from the best insult I've ever heard about my rising sign.
For the poems, they were pretty standard modern poetry ones. Nothing revolutionary or anything too crazy. Some few were really great, some were terrible, there was one about how "a tree is the best version of me" that was fucking ridiculous but for most of them I just didn't care as they had nothing to do with astrology.
you are not too much. you are brilliant. remarkable. you fill up rooms with love. you are joy. you are sunlight. you put more stars in the sky. your laugh makes the earth a better place. every day the world tells you to hide. but you say no. your soul was put here to take up as much space as possible. and there is room for you to be even more.
Okay, I will admit to cheating on this one a little.
I did read a few of the other signs (mostly releated to the people around me; scorpio, cancer, leo, virgo and libra) but mostly just read then re-read my own sign: taurus sun.
Got to say, just reading the taurus one hit me really hard because yes. I felt it was all true. I have never felt more offended at reading something so true, nor more seen.
But yes, I did not read the whole thing. Thus the slight cheat.
Written very well, the poems represented the hidden part of each sign in a profound way. I recommend it to those who are interested in poems and the zodiac.
it wasn’t very well written nor did it resonate with me. none of the descriptions matched me or any of the signs i know. but that is definitely not the deciding factor in my dislike of this collection.
there’s simply no depth to this work. at one point there’s even a MEME masquerading as a poem “babe are you okay? you haven’t even touched your existential dread” THAT IS A MEME FORMAT!!! NOT A POEM!!!
Interesting to read poems that covered each of the astrological signs. Some of the poems were beautiful and really resonated with me. I always loved the beginning of each chapter with the sign and a poem of items/feels that reminded the poet of the sign.
A quick, random read based off a Goodreads recommendation. The collection was alright. I have read some truly, superbly, stunningly bad collections of "poetry" and this isn't that. But it's not one of the truly, superbly, stunningly GOOD collections of poetry I've read, either.
I enjoyed the astrology themes and that each section of poems dedicated to an astrological sign really seemed to care about more than the surface level assumptions and stereotypes of the signs. To say it was a modern poetic take on the signs feels accurate.
What this lacked was extra punch. The collection needed more teeth.
one day, i promise there will be someone you can let in who will keep you safe once they're inside
have you ever noticed you're incredible? even just for a second or have you always held it in scared of taking your own breath away but there is joy in this kind of love for self not egoistic or narcissistic seeing both sides of the coin and not caring which one it lands on because you like both and you are both you are the beginning the in-between and the ending and the only thing more heartbreaking than no one else acknowledging it is that they taught you to ignore it too
Okay editing to add, it wasn’t terrible. There were a couple of poems in here that I enjoyed and some that my friends resonated with. On the whole, however, most of the pieces in this collection were either terribly generic or extremely specific (and not specific to a sign, you see, but rather one individual person. Maybe the author or friends of the author? It’s not clear). That seems like an odd complaint, but you can give it a read on KU and see what I mean. I just didn’t really get any characteristics of the signs. Not even the stereotypical ones. I guess it just wasn’t what I was expecting!
As a foreword: I don’t believe in astrology and that hasn’t changed through the book. But I decided to not integrate the classification of star signs within the book into the assessment.
So looking at the poems: They were mostly cute, relatable and touching. Especially the ones that described peoples attributes were well-written, and remarkable in their creativity as they held something truly unique. Moreover the author was able to really deliver the emotional aspects of her poems.
Nevertheless, I had a few problems: The topics of the poems kept on changing back and forth, which mostly made no sense and often leaded to a haltingly reading. Furthermore there were a few poems that were similar ((almost repetitive)) to the ones, that can be found in other works of the author.
this was a really great book and I accidentally came upon it. I appreciated the breakdown of each signs and you can actually tell the difference between them I loved that each chapter of the signs included a variation of different poems with different styles it went along really well. you could really see the creativity and work that went into each one
Some of the poems for Leo's (aka my sign) were actually scarily accurate
"hiding from your feelings doesn’t make them go away / it covers them with black mud bubbling up when you least expect it / spilling into everything you hoped would feel good/ until you can’t feel anything at all" This probably resonated with me the most right now and it was kinda scary to see it written down on paper 😵
I really love this collection of poetry. It resonated with me for many reasons and whenever it came to the poems under my sign, I literally got tears. Well done. I highly recommend.
Some poetry is angry and raw and edgy. This is not. Its like a soft fall aesthetic, with some really powerful statements in between. It's soft and warm and lovely. I don't think you need to be a star sign fan to enjoy it.
I am a Libra. This book made me feel so secure wihin myself. At least for me, it made me feel validated to be comfortable in the emotions and feelings I experience, without being judged. This book has helped me understand myself more and look through a lens that I would’ve never peered through if it wasn’t for it. Things that I’ve already known about myself are represented beautifully, and and I know for sure that I’m not the only one feeling a certain way about things that occur in my life or will occur in my life at some point.
“be love. embrace love in all forms. let go of fear of love. realize love is all you need. create a life full of romance. light candles and incense. wear perfume. buy yourself gifts for no reason. be open to receiving. realize that the only person who can stop you from living your dream is you. and you are deserving of a life worth dreaming about.”
“i hold each part of my body send the love to it that i've been withholding too many years of shame without touch wishing my lines and curves would become straighter now i'm just so grateful for this vessel so happy i get to be here”
“all the love poems i wrote were about me all along”
The poems don't rhyme, they don't flow, and they have no rhythm. A few have no consistent theme, and some don't make sense.
This needed way more shaping and editing. The other poetry collection I read from this author was just as bad, and I can see no learning of the art of poetry, no development.
This feels like generic quotes you can find on Instagram, and putting five more minutes into a poem could have easily made them sound better. I tried it myself and came up with rhymes without changing the poem's meaning. They are barely deep and talk about heavy topics people will relate to or at least cause them to feel pity.
Does this even have something to do with star signs? Because the stuff written in the poems is oddly specific and hardly relatable.
Grammar and punctuation are terrible, but those Instagram Poets love to throw weird "aesthetic" formatting at us. The only nice thing were the small drawings, like always.
Cash grab. If something is your passion, put work into it.
Yes, I'm a zodiac girlie. I find astrology very interesting and though I won't judge you based on your zodiac sign, I do ask what you are just out of curiosity.
I'm an Aries, by the way. We're the best. :)
I love poetry and astrology so this was a no-brainer for me. It contains some poems for every sign and each of them have a page with a photo and a poem. It's really neat! Some of the poems resonate so well! Some are just so accurate- but there's always some that aren't. I encourage you to read the author's introduction or note before the poems because she explains her reasonings for what she wrote and how.
The only reason this one wasn't a 5 is because the poems are based on her observations of each sign in the people around her. That's not a gripe or anything, but it can leave the reader feeling somewhat left out if the words don't resonate with them. It's unavoidable because everyone, no matter their sign, is multifaceted and hard to put into a box.
