Werepredators are bad, but ancient gods and monsters are much, much worse.
Things have been going downhill since Piper discovered who she really was and whom she descended from. Now her best friend has paid the price. An ancient goddess has forced Bran into an artifact changing her, and to make it worse, she won't leave Bran alone.
You can only run, hide, and muddle through so long before the final chess moves are complete. Weasel is coming for Bran. An unknown monster is stalking Piper, and war between the ancient gods, the shadow winged, and the weres is lurking on the horizon. If Piper's side wins, humanity will continue on, ignorant but safe. If they lose, it is the end of everything.
Jilleen Dolbeare is the author of the Shadow Winged Chronicles, an urban fantasy series about a shape-shifting bush pilot in Alaska.
She loves riding horses, warm ocean beaches, and long walks in the mountains, none of which she can do in the Arctic, so she writes.
Her activities are riding her four-wheeler on cold ocean beaches (often frozen or covered with ice), and long walks to and from work when it’s 40 below—in the dark. She does keep her stakes sharp for those vamps that show up during the 67 days of night.
Jilleen lives with her husband and two hungry cats in Barrow, Alaska where she also discovered her love and admiration of the Inupiaq people and their folklore.
This book brought everything together, a whole lot of tension finally dissipated and I could breathe a sigh of relief. From the start, where we first met Piper and Bran, they way they connect, they way they have each other's back is a testament to their friendship, the ultimate friendship. I kept having the song "Time after Time" swirling around in my head, as the apt lyrics go "If you're lost you can look and you will find me, time after time" Neither of these awesome ladies EVER gives up on the other.
Bran, oh my word, Bran, is at the centre of it all! There is something so special about Bran and it's not just me who thinks that! Weasel has a fixation with her. Oh and Bran finally called herself a witch, which needless to say, brought a huge grin to my face. But my goodness was I astonished at her magical prowess, her growth throughout is a wonder to follow, and I do mean that literally!
Just as I got to think, ok, maybe Eagle isn't such a baddie, he goes and pulls the rug under my feet, geez, what a sleaze ball! And then THAT sentiment gets turned on it's head! I honestly couldn't anticpate what his deal actually was, I couldn't anticipate where the author was going, she kept throwing spikes in the wheel, jolting me with a huge "huh!"
This was a completely new magical world for me, one so steeped in myth and lore, with creatures and shifters aplenty, of a kind I rarely found, superly written and executed well. The impending War of supernaturals was fierce, furious and action packed, AND not between those I thought, loved the outcome, another huge surprise! I fell under the characters spell, every one of them, Fletcher and Fred, Piper and Bran, Raven and Eagle and even felt a twinge of sympathy for Weasel, not for long though! Weasel's experiments had me horrified, to stoop to such evil.... and for what??? A misplaced sense of vengeance is what!
The visuals painted by the author were so magnificent, the horrifying truly was horrifying, the tenderness truly tender and the relationships felt like my own. There are 3 books and 3 novellas in this series and I strongly recommend you read them all!
An exciting book. The end of a fantastic series. A small plane pilot who can shift into other animals similar to those in Inupiat folklore. A war among supernatural beings, some of whom are so ancient, they've been forgotten among the myths and folklore. The psychological game playing and the kidnapping of magical creatures and witches to make Dr Frankenstein type monsters to defeat the enemy. Eg Piper and her friends. Then all humans from the land. The ancient arguments from the mythical sky gods of millennium ago that have re emerged from Alaskan Native folklaw to play among the current people of the land. This is the nightmare that Piper and her friends must defeat.

Never mess with Piper and those she cares about! Its WAR! Do you ever wonder if different kinds of shapeshifters can get along? Who can you truly trust in a fight to save one of your own? This book is your answer! You got shapeshifters, family strengths, little humor, anger moments..must read!
A bit of a different premise but a well written and entertaining story nonetheless. The book got my attention at the start and maintained that level of interest throughout. I like books like this - although it is the third in a series it does very well on its' own merits - no real need to have read the preceding books in order to enjoy this one.
I received a free ARC copy of this book and am under no obligation to review it.
I have read all of this series. I found these books well written and full of interesting characters. I can recommend these books without reservation. I may not be the most critical of readers because I find that I can enjoy most books I read. If the books are not worth reading I have been know to stop reading a pick up something fresh and more worth while. If I find myself enjoying the read then I find it difficult to be critical of the books in retrospect. The fact that I read all three of the books in this series speaks volumes about my pleasure in the stories. Like all good books I found myself regretting the loss of characters I really appreciated. One of the points of highest praise for Jilleen’s writing is that very few, if any parts of the story line were left unaddressed. Some authors will mention facts or events which the don’t seem to go anywhere in the book as a whole. I never felt that Jilleen’s books leave me wanting for closure. That is a real skill for a writer to master.
This book really packs a punch, and while it can be read as a stand-alone, it does pull together the various story lines from the earlier books. The nefarious plot behind the kidnapping of the local witches is finally revealed. Piper and her friends need to gather as many clans as possible to become allies in their attempt to defeat the ancient Sky Person who is plotting to destroy humanity. There is progress made on interpersonal fronts, as Piper and her father become more honest with each other, Bran and Fred admit their love for each other, Bran finally faces all her special powers, and there are amazing and heart-warming scenes of shapeshifting under the full moon. But the heart of the book is the fast-paced, intense, adrenaline rush of trying to attack Weasel’s base of power, free the victims, and declare war on the bad guys. The descriptions are vibrant and realistic, the writing is tight, and this is an absolute thrill of a book.
I guess it's my fault for not checking if there were any books before this one, but I got it as an ARC so I had a limited time for reading. Anyway, I am so glad I read it despite my lack of knowledge about the events in the first two books. There were bits and pieces I felt like I was missing, but as the story progressed, I slowly started figuring out the things I didn't know. From my standpoint, you can read it without reading the first two books, but I warn you, by the end, you will wish you had read them all because that happened to me. Action-packed with great characters and a magnificent plot with a bit of insight into Inupiaq culture. I would recommend this book to all you urban fantasy lovers or maybe just fantasy lovers. I enjoyed it and completely lost myself in it so much that at some point, I reached to turn the page only to remember I was reading on a device.

I loved this series and wish there had been more, .
Outstanding fantasy saga. This is the third book in a series of three. This can be read alone, since it wasn't impossible to catch up, but would be better read as a series. This was an all action novel with shifters, weres, witches, vampires and gods. The four key characters, Piper, Fletcher, Bran and Fred were all genuine, likeable individuals with their own strengths and weeknesses. The baddies were thoroughly horrible and there were sufficient twists and turns to the story to keep you guessing. I would absolutely recommend this book and will definitely be reading more from this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Addicting Supernatural Spy & War awaits. I haven't read any of the series before now. I found it easy to pick up on and quite addictive, wanting to know more of Inupiaq. Piper, Bran, Fletcher & Fred of course and Raven continue to deal with the fallout from the previous books. The characters are all intriguing and I love the different dynamics of the relationships. Full of action, mystery, and intrigue. A new mysterious shadow begins causing trouble, can they figure out what it is and how to stop it before it's too late? What will happen to everyone? I highly recommend this series and starting with the 1st in the series as you won't want to miss anything!
What a great end to the Shadow Winged Chronicles! So many twists and turns and evil plans that are truly chilling. It was such a thrill! So many different new enemies, and Dolbeare has such a great way of sucking you into the action.
I also loved how the characters didn't just move on, as they often do in other books, but were genuinely shaken by the traumatic things they'd experienced. It made me feel more sympathetic, and made it feel more realistic in a way.
I can't wait to see what other stories Dolbeare has up her sleeve!
The Shadow Winged Chronicles final chapter is a roller coaster ride in the best ways possible. Ms. Dolbeare’s world is so different than others and both the supernatural element and the human elements are written with care. Weasel’s and Eagles plan for subjugating witches and were’s is moving at a breakneck speed and threatening everyone Piper cares about. Who can she relay on and who can she trust? These are the questions she and you keep asking as the plot unfolds. This is a series to read and savor.
I absolutely loved this series and I’m sure there is plenty more adventure in this world to be written, hint hint. I thought that Piper was a very human hero and made mistakes like everyone else, her temper got her in plenty of bother too, but she owned it and admitted her faults. Fletcher was a great fiancée and supported her throughout, Bran and Fred however needed all the help they could get. All of the characters were very well written and need more exposure.
Ok so this is the first book in this series that I have read yes it can be read as a stand alone story and it is one hell of a read but I think it would be better if I had read the previous books as well. Well written, action packed this is an incredible fantasy that once started I just couldn’t and didn’t want to put it down. The characters are fantastic, relatable and intriguing and the storyline is exciting and mysterious and pulls you in and is a great read.
Shadow War (Shadow Winged #3) by Jilleen Dolbeare was a well written conclusion to the series and I highly recommend. After she was rescued by Piper and others Weasel keeps trying to recapture Bran, an unknown monster is stalking Piper and war is on the horizon and you can only run or hide so long. If Piper's side win humanity will continue on, ignorant but safe. If they lose, it is the end of everything. This series is available on Amazon
I liked these books. The premise was intriguing and unusual... using Alaskan folklore. I loved the characters. However, there was a big problem with continuity. Plus the movement between books was jarring. Despite the need for better editing, this series is worth the read.
Though it had a good ending, I was sort of disappointed with how it did end. There was so much left unanswered for Piper and the reader. This was an interesting read, though and with the Alasken Foklore mix in, it made things unique.
I read book one in 4 days, book two in 2 days, this one in one!! Great writing, awesome characters, and kept me on the edge of my seat!!! Only issue I have is no more books…..
The Weasel is running rampant again, and they are her most desired, to torture and to kill. Can two werewolves, a were witch, a shifter, and a god (or two?) take down the Weasel for good?
Perfect ending but hopefully we will see everyone again. The growth and strength each one of our heroes shows is amazing. Love that it’s set in Alaska. Read this series.
The whole series is a wonderful dive into Alaskan folklore, country and an abundance of creatures. The evils were scary and good guys flawed. A great adventure
Truthfully In had no idea of all the myths and stories of the indigenous people. What a ride in this series, A good story, lots of information and now a bucket list item to go see Alaska for myself!
was as good as rhe other two. There were a few things I wasn’t happy about but what hasn’t got that stuff in it that is what keeps you reading them if they didn’t would read at all. I hope there are more in the series!
This goes very dark. Kidnapping, torture, violent experiments, betrayals and lots of death. Not sure the characters who get their HEA made it worth it.
A fine wrap-up of this Alaska based urban fantasy romp. Not too much romance, more new creatures, the big bad making her move and native legends and history comes to life
