Captive of My Desires

Rate this book
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of “first-rate romance” (Daily News, New York) returns with this dazzling Malory novel following a pirate’s daughter as she plots vengeance on the aristocratic rogue who embroiled her in a scandal. When Gabrielle Brooks sets sail from England to the Caribbean in search of her estranged father, she has no idea that she’s in for the shock of her life—her father is a pirate. After three thrilling years hunting treasure with him, she’s devastated when he insists she leave the swashbuckling life behind and find a proper husband in London. He arranges for his old friend James Malory and his wife, Georgina, to sponsor her in polite society. Gabrielle isn’t impressed with the extravagant balls and parties…until she meets Georgina’s brother Drew Anderson, a dashing American sea captain. But when Drew destroys Gabrielle’s reputation the night before he’s to set sail, the pirate’s daughter vows revenge by commandeering Drew’s ship and taking him prisoner. Too bad she didn’t anticipate passion growing on the high sea, or the line between captor and captive blurring.

***4,5 "The Andersons are back!!!" stars***

I honestly don't know how the Andersons manage to do that to me...

Even though that i adore the Mallorys, the Andersons's stories are making me so excited...
This was the second book in the series (No, the third!!!) that was for an Anderson and for once again, i lived with him a wonderful adventure... full of pirates and treasure hunting and some balls back in England...

It was an interesting mix and i enjoyed it very much!!!

After the loss of her mother, Gabrielle Brooks are sailing to Caribbean to find her sailor father, but there she is discovering that her father is not who he told he is...

But Gabrielle doesn't have a problem with that and she is starting to live with him....
But after three years of freedom, her father persuade her to return back to England to find a husband... And for that reason, he will sent her to James Mallory to help her with that goal...
So, Gabrielle is sailing back to London for something that she is not even sure that she wants...

Drew Anderson is on London because he wanted to spend some time with his sister Georgina and her family, even though that he and her husband James Mallory don't have the best relationship...

Drew adores sea and he likes to spent his free time with beautiful women... but with no strings attached!!! He is a captain and in every port he has a different woman to wait for him...
But something is changing when in her sister's house is arriving Gabrielle...

Gabrielle and Drew, from the first moment they are meeting, are having a big attraction, but they both fight it because they want different things for their lives...

Gabrielle is searching for a husband and Drew is not the right material for that goal, even though that Gabrielle would prefer him to become her husband...
Drew from the other hand, can't let himself loose near to Gabrielle because she is not the right kind of woman for her, because of her father's status and the opinion that he has of her and because he can't never give her what she really wants...

But all those reasons don't make them stay away from each other for long...

Drew is about to leave from London, but before he goes, a wrong choice and a mean comment is rising a scandal about Gabrielle....

At the same time, some bad news are forcing Gabrielle to return to Caribbean, but for that cause, she is deciding to do something extreme...
She is going to hijack Drew's ship in order to save her father and to take revenge for the scandal that he caused...

So, a strange adventure is starting...

What will happen in this journey???
Will Drew and Gabrielle leave their differences aside and cooperate???
Or the things will become even worse than before???

Will they stay away from each other???
Will Gabrielle take her revenge or Drew will gain the upper hand for once again???
Is there a chance for those two???

As i told you before, i enjoyed and this book in the series very much!!!
Drew and Gabrielle were delightful from the first moment until the last...

They were fitting very well together and they both went to extreme depths to have the upper hand... and i loved it!!!

Ugh. Looks like I dipped in the Malory well one too many times. After reading The Magic of You and Say You Love Me, and enjoying both immensely, I was looking forward to more of the same with Captive of My Desires. What a let-down. Not only were the hero and heroine totally mismatched, but I couldn't suspend disbelief enough to accept that any man would want this b*ch for a wife, much less one of Georgina's brothers.

First of all, where did the cheeky, fun-loving Drew Anderson from prior Malory novels go? This "new" Drew was sulky and morose...having nothing to contribute to a conversation until he was fortified with "liquid courage". Then all he did was mock and discredit Gabriella repeatedly, scandalizing her to a point where she was no longer suitable marriage material. Was he remorseful in the least? Nah...blame it on love. Or in this case, don't blame it on anything...Drew never had to explain himself. If that wasn't bad enough, Drew ends up taking Gabriella's virginity with one mighty thrust. Oops...thought you were a real female pirate (= slutty?). I'll make it up to you next time. Yeah, whatever dickhead...you can't break it twice.

A well-written sex scene might have been able to incorporate the act of manly stupidity but I've come to realize JL doesn't do description where sex is concerned (at least not in the Malory Family). The first time is usually a paragraph or so and then it's just "doing the deed" every time thereafter. Major turnoff for me. It wasn't so noticeable in prior Malory books because the stories were strong enough on their own; this story, however, begged for the sexual assist and got nothing but a big OUCH!

Sad to say, but I could just about forgive Drew all of his notable shortcomings simply because the woman he has been teamed up with has to be the Worst. Heroine. Ever. I sensed disaster with Drew & Gabriella's first encounter...she was in the process of being knocked to the ground by an errant cart and he grabbed her arm to keep her from tumbling. Her first response? "Let me go. You are bruising my arm." LOL She only got worse.

As a favor to her father, Jack & Georgina sponsor Gabriella for a London season; however, one fateful night Drew drunkenly announces she is a pirate AND she gets word her father is in danger. So to show Jack & George how much she appreciates all the time and money they spent on her, she scribbles a quick "thanks but I'm outta here" note and disappears into the night. To show Drew how pleased she was with his escort, she (and her cohorts) comandeer Drew's ship and crew - shackling the men to the floor - and set sail for St. Kitts Obviously, Drew isn't the happiest of campers and gives Gabriella the serious "evil eye". Thwack! She smashes his head with a pistol, knocks him unconscious, then hopes she didn't kill him. But that's what he deserves for how dare he call her a pirate! Adding insult to injury, she strips naked and climbs into his bed...hoping that he will long for something he can't have.

TIME OUT: I must renege here on any unfavorable comments I made about Drew in regards to the "mighty thrust". This is that rare incident where the heroine truly deserved what she got.

Sometime during this pleasant cruise, Drew & Gabriella fall madly in love (yes, with each other) and cannot wait a moment longer to be married. Yawn! Who cares? Long before reaching this point, I had turned the sound down and was reading a much better book - "2000+ Essential Italian Verbs" (LMAO for those that understand my strangeness)

1.5 stars for good narration

I read Captive of My Desires during a reading slump, and it did not make the situation better. This book was just blah. Starting with Until Forever, Johanna Lindsey's writing took a downturn for me. There was major magic missing from her books published in the new millennium, which disappointed me so much, as she was one of my favorite authors in my youth.

Or maybe I'm not as patient a reader as I used to be. This was tedious. The 8th book in the Malory series (although technically this should be #2 in the Anderson family saga, as no Malories feature here as protagonists), Captive of My Desires is a romance between Georgina Anderson's brother Drew and Miss Gabrielle Brooks.

Drew isn't at all like his brother Warren. Maybe Drew was kind of cute as a supporting character, but as a hero, he's dull, dull, dull!

On paper this book should be rollicking fun: a pirate's daughter enters London society to find a suitable husband but has feelings for a rakish American ship captain. He ruins her chances for love by airing her dirty secret in public. As revenge, she later seizes his ship, chains him up, and takes the ship to rescue her father from other pirates. There's even a parrot who talks dirty and lots of James Malory!

Alas, not even James Malory could save this one...

Drew was such a bore. I liked Gabby, she was feisty in a good kick-ass kind of way. The poor girl deserved a better hero and a better book.

By 3/4 of the way through this turkey, I was skimming to the end. Oh Johanna, Johanna. I used to love her books so much! What the heck happened?

1 1/2 stars (the extra half star for Gabby & nostalgia)

Not fully done yet, but I'm completely irritated. It's obvious that Lindsey is no longer writing these books; the prose and voice are very different from her earlier novels. But whatever, authors get old and feeble and can't type as well so they have to hire a ghostwriter. Fine. Just disable that damned shift+1 key, will ya? Exclamation marks should be used sparingly and only in dialogue. In prose, it just makes you sound like an excitable teenager on deviantArt or fanfiction.net. Or maybe that's where Lindsey found her ghostwriter. That explains a lot actually.

UPDATE: Horrible book. I won't go into details so as not to spoil things for unsuspecting readers.

The earlier paragraph has already pointed out the weaknesses in the writing, but that is not the least of the book's many problems. One is the overlong and tedious rundown or reminiscing -- done by previous characters Georgina and James -- of what the Mallorys have done so far. First thought: in what universe is that conversation ever considered a) normal and b) realistic? It's the equivalent of sitting in the living room with your spouse one evening and instead of just telling him of the latest development, you tell him every event that has led to this. I don't know how you think relationships work, Ms. Ghostwriter, but happily-married couples don't need to give cliff notes each time they talk to other. Unless your idea of happy is someone who does not talk to their spouse and completely unaware of everything that transpires. Or perhaps James has Alzheimer's and does not remember anything?

While it's supposed to inform the readers of everything that's happened and, I suppose, give some of us an update on characters we supposedly loved before, what happens instead is a boring and needless treatise that will alienate readers. It definitely alienated me. It is unrealistic and unnecessary. I don't care about other characters even if their last name is Mallory. If they are not in or matter to the story, I don't need to know what has happened to them since the last book.

As annoying as the expositionary dialogue issue, it is nothing compared to the one that killed the book: the hero. You can skip horrible prose, dialogue, chapters. You can't skip a horrible character when it is his story you're reading. I like Gabrielle, the heroine: she's spunky, nice and sweet without being overbearing or Mary Sue-ish. But I can't say the same for Drew, the "hero." He's an asshole and a jerk with no good reason for being an alpha-hole. I know this is a romance and apparently, you HAVE to have the I'm-cynical-because-whatever hero and the push-pull thing between the characters before they can get their HEA, but his problems are first world problems. It doesn't give him depth; it just makes him a pussy and a great big asshole. It's not cute, it's not endearing, and to have Gabrielle mooning over him just makes her look shallow and totally lacking in self-respect for her to keep being bowled over by a pretty face. Halfway through, I thought Drew was starting to redeem himself somewhat when Gabrielle manages to turn the tables on him and messes with his head -- perfect payback for Drew's complete jackassery. But no ... don't empower the heroine or make the hero fucking earn the right to love and be loved by her. No, that wouldn't do for this romance (or a lot of romances, sadly). The dipshit has to triumph and just to make sure we see his triumph, he has to fully literally screw the heroine over. Because ... only virgins get raped, right? Non-virgins don't. He thought she wasn't a virgin so it was perfectly fine for him to have sex with her while she's asleep. Talk about 19th Century version of roofie. And of course, we're supposed to sigh and swoon that she fucks him anyway and allow a complete shithead got his way, that it's just so romantic, even though he's treated the heroine horribly.

Sorry, not this reader. By the time all is resolved and everyone is happy and in love, I am left unconvinced that Drew deserves her. It would be nice to root for a couple's HEA, but I find myself staring at the couple in horror instead.

VERDICT: Turn off your brain and any feminist instincts you have before reading this. Best read if you have absolutely nothing else to read, such as the dictionary or your parents' dusty copies of Encyclopedia Britannica. I give this book an F.

So simple...

Ok so I've decreased my stars to 4-4.5 here. This was still a really good read in the Mallory/Anderson saga, however Gabi isn't one of my more favorite heroines of Johanna's. Honestly she has everything there for a complete bad A FMC but she just falls short because she is constantly feeling some type of way about Drew. She is either completely overwhelmed by her desire of him or also angry enough to kill him. Its incredibly frustrating for both her and the reader really when it feels like these emotions are constantly on repeat. I almost just wish she was a little more... Piratey? lol. I feel like if her personality was more assertive and dominant as well as more clever that she would have easily squeezed her way in my top favs but instead she is just so naive as well as always in a tizzy over every thing Drew does.

Their story on the other hand is great. Gabi journeys to London from her home in the Caribbean to have a come out season after having spent several years with her pirate father after her mother's death. She arrives to set out to find a husband quickly and go back to her beloved islands only to encounter Drew Anderson in all his pirate hating glory. This of course starts a hate to love relationship which ends up with Gabi commandeering his ship to rescue her father after Drew in a jealous, drunken fit ruins her chances at a good marriage.

Its a great story line for sure I love me some pirates and treasure. Like I said, Gabi isn't my favorite but the story is steal super entertaining. Continuing to love this series!

Sorry to say it was a yawner. Don't get me wrong, I finished it. I just didn't feel the love- and, unfortunately, it's been like that for quite some time with her latest releases. I used to eat up all her novels like a fat kid eating cake. Not anymore.

The only thing I really liked about this foray into the Mallory saga was the fact that it brought to mind Pirates of the Caribbean Two. Other than that ... the heroine's backstory is rushed (it would have been a ton more interesting if Lindsey had started off with, and gave more detail into, Gabby's adventures with her father on the pirate ship), Drew, the hero? Flat and we get no feel for him what's so ever, PLUS their passion for each other is relatively non-existant.

Oh we get to see James and George from Gentle Rogue, and quite frankly, they STILL have more personality than Drew and Gabby- even though the book was written years ago. Most of the other Mallory's make an appearance too- which just made me long for the old days even more.

The worst part is that it didn't really stink. It just sort of sat there, tepid and blah. I think I almost wish it sucked the big one, because than I would feel something- ANYTHING but nothing!. Which is what I was left with after closing the book.

So there you have it. Another blah, same old, same old for the bookshelves.

If someone else has read this, and likes it, please let me know. I wanted so bad to like it, maybe you can talk me into it!

This was so disappointing. Praises to the higher powers that I didn't buy this in hardcover.

I think most people who read this book had read previous Malory novels so bought this hoping for a sweeping romance, a la Gentle Rogue. This is not that book.

Drew Anderson is a jerk. I can't stand the man who looks down on anyone due to their circumstances and Drew does that from the moment he meets Gabrielle. He hears the word "pirate" and "Gabrielle" in one sentence and condemns her as one of their barbarous, whoring breed and doesn't hide his contempt either. Nor does he feel the need to mince words when in the company of other people, because, well, who cares right? She's a promiscuous pirate who doesn't have feelings. Nevermind the moment he sees her, he decides he must have her. Nevermind the fact that she tells him no, she's looking for a husband and if that's not what he's okay with, then leave her alone. Nope, our hero (and I use that term loosely and with disgust) desires her fiercely and won't take no for an answer and in a moment of drunkenness spills her secrets at a ton party. When Gabrielle confronts Drew about this, he is far from repentant. (This is where Johanna Lindsey lost me. If she had made him contrite, even just a little, I might have forgiven her and Drew) Oh, no, this is where our caustic hero tells his heroine that her husband searching was "too far above her station" and her mother's honor and reputation was not of his concern since her association with her pirate husband should have been avoided at all costs and well, what can you expect when you marry a pirate? I guess he forgot that his beloved sister Georgie married an ex pirate, and he would probably kill anyone who said the same thing to her.

Gabrielle and Drew have no chemistry together and their 'romance' comes across as forced and unbelievable. I enjoyed reading more about Drew's righthand man and a few assorted background characters then the man himself. One of the funniest parts of the book doesn't even involve Drew, but James and Gabrielle and Richard, the man who is trying to trespass with James' wife, George. LOL. Run Richard, Run!

Up until the moment Gabrielle returned to England, I was really enjoying the book. Her character's introduction in the Caribbean was interesting and her reunion with her father was funny. I shamelessly love these 'captive at sea' type books and for a moment I thought I had found another Johanna Lindsey gem, but she quickly proved me wrong.

This book was disappointing to read and I somewhat blame myself. I snatched up this book solely on the fact she smacked 'A Malory Novel' on the cover and all I could think of was, "OOooo, a Malory novel. Drool". I guess I hate acknowledging that I'm a mindless sheep sometimes. LOL

Hopefully next time she will realize that while I love the Malorys and love revisiting them from time to time, this shouldn't be about them. This is the Anderson family and she is missing an opportunity to create a whole new quirky bunch of people with a distinctly American flair to it. Oh well, Johanna, a swing and a miss.

wow it was soo good! i think that maybe it was the best book in whole series! even better then James's book! (cant believe that im saying this :D)

it was adventurous, romantic, sweet, cute, funny... all the things that i adore in a romance book :D i loved the fact that in this book we could see english ballrooms, ton, fancy life... and then sea, pirates, storms and captures!
the contrast was absolutely fascinating :D and the fact that two of my most fav characters had a big part to play in this book was a positive thing as well :D James and George had a great roll and i love them! but Drew and Gabby are simply great...

i adored Drew... im not kidding i truly adored him :D he was everything i love in a man :D and he and Gabby were such a great pair... some moments were absolutely hilarious, some were so sweet that i felt like crying just for the sweetness of the moment... some were so cute...

this was a hot, romantic read, but with just the right touches of adventures!

i recommend it to everyone who loves "Gentle Rogue" by Johanna Lindsey!

5 biiiiig stars :D it was absolutely fabulous :D i know that i already said it but i really loved it :D

This is a great pirate story. Captain Hawke comes out of retirement for this one. This is the love story of Drew Anderson (James's brother in law and Georgette's brother) Gabriella daughter of Nathan a (pirate really a treasure hunter on St. Kitts, Caribbean) a young debutante looking for a husband. She and Drew are attracted to one another but he is a confirmed bachelor. He thinks because she is a pirate's daughter she is not a virgin and will be easy to seduce. He doesn't want anyone else to have her either and tells one of her suitors that she is a pirate creating a scandal that ruins her. Meanwhile she just received word her father is captured by Pierre LaCross a french pirate and being held for his maps and wants Gabriella to hand deliver them. She needs speed to get across the atlantic and to the west indies, so she decides to take Drew's boat tying up all the hands and replacing with her own with the help of her father's crew Ohr, Richard ( her bestfriend) and Bixley who told them about Nathan. She decides to make Drew fall in love ( lust) with her and them reject him. Her crew tied him and his first mate up with a chain on their ankle and kept them locked in cabins. Unfortunately they escaped twice, the second time successfully. Drew seduced Gabby in her sleep and took her virginity. Afterwards he did feel bad about it and after a week offered her marriage. She accepted but then rejected it thinking her didn't really mean it. He said they were engaged. Captain Hawke shoes up and takes over their rescue operation.

Review I Liked: Excitement and passion are the heartbeat of this story, and the close bonds of family are the soul of it—just as with all the Malory Novels. A lady pirate (of sorts) and a gentleman rogue create all kinds of scandals and steamy situations as they learn to work together to save their crews and themselves from a dangerous pirate and a seduction that might just burn them both.

Book Summary: Gabrielle flees home after her mother died to search for her father. When she finds him, she discovers he's a pirate and she shares many happy years on board his ship, until he decides it is time to return her to England to find a husband. Drew, a notorious rogue, is drawn to Gabrielle but he believes she is a pirate, not a lady, and creates a scandal when she doesn't readily agree to become his mistress. Forced to flee after learning about her fathers abduction, Gabrielle and her crew of pirates retaliates by commandeering Drew's ship and taking him prisoner.

Gabrielle Brooks didn't know until 3 years earlier that her father is a Carribbean pirate/fortune hunter. She and her mother, a member of the ton, thought he was a merchant. It wasn't until mom died and she went looking for dad that the truth came out. Now 3 years later she's back in London to find a husband at her father's request. He's called in a favor from his old pirate buddy, James Malory, to sponsor her. Gabrielle doesn't find many suitors to please her - the best being James' brother-in-law, American Drew Anderson. When word reaches her that her father's been imprisoned by another pirate, at the same time Drew let it slip at a party her father was a pirate, she decides his ship will work for the return voyage. She steals his ship and his crew, but partway through the voyage he turns the tables and takes her virginity - something he didn't expect a "pirate" to have. They also fall in love along the way, so after the rescue of dad, they marry and find his long lost treasure hunt. Relatively clean - a couple of semi-brief lovemaking scenes.

OHHH just wonderful! I will admit that I didnt like how it began... It was dragging on in the beginning itself and I was questioning myself If I should continue and the other fact was that the male lead made a serious late entry into the story... Even then I was like K Drew is too sassy... Do i want to read a historical romance novel where the male lead is not a mysterious and dark one... Readers I was sooooo wrong! Drew not only swept Gabby off her feet but also me too hahahaha... After that it was just hook line and sinker

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. I loved the idea of the story; I just don't think it was executed that well. First of all, the MCs are just so bland. I really didn't have strong feelings for either one of them. They just didn't seem to have personalities. And honestly, there wasn't any chemistry. When they professed their love at the end, I was like "Really? When did that happen?"

My other issue is that all of the "drama" seemed ridiculous and unbelievable. I mean honestly, who would think Gabby was really an actual pirate? How would that even have been a thing people would have talked about? It was just too silly. Drew thinks he's allowed to treat her like shit because she's a pirate? She gets ruined in society because he calls her a pirate in public, and people believe it? It was just too silly for me.

There was also an issue of things being rehashed over and over, and for some reason not being resolved the first time they're discussed. For example, the first time Gabby tells Drew he ruined her chances of finding a husband with his pirate comment, he laughs and tells her she should have been honest with her suitors and not tried to trick them into marrying a pirate. Then, when the topic comes up again, Drew is completely shocked that what he said had such an effect, and he apologizes and said he never intended to do that. Like what? Nothing changed about the situation, but the same conversation had different outcomes at different times in the story. It honestly felt sometimes like two people wrote this story, and then they were merged without a lot of editing.

My final problem with the book is the semi-non-consensual physical relationship they have. The first time they have sex, Gabby thinks she's dreaming until the pain of losing her virginity wakes her. She wakes fully and gets mad at him for ruining her a second way, and he has no remorse. I don't recall him ever apologizing, even when she brings it up later. Her later internal dialog says she wanted it to happen, but it still seemed questionable to me. The other encounters all seem to be more for Drew than Gabby, too. Like she never wants it, but is like "eh, whatever". I don't know. I think it could have been better done.

Anyway, this book was just OK for me. I'm usually a fan of Johanna Lindsey, but this wasn't as good as some of her others in my opinion.

Damn it Johanna Lindsey I just can’t quit you. I would have really enjoyed this book if the hero wasn’t total trash. He’s incredibly disrespectful, ruins the heroine both literally and figuratively (both are “jokes”) and then when he decides he wants to get married after a lifetime of saying he won’t, he won’t take no for an answer. Fuck this guy.

This series degraded so quickly. I loved the first books and then was horribly disappointed in A Loving Scoundrel. Then there was THIS. I have never been so upset over a book before. Never! The way Drew treated Gabrielle was unspeakable. Preconceived ideas do not excuse rape. And it was rape. I'm shaking just thinking about the horrible turn the book took. Why is it that it's suddenly okay that the man takes the woman, a virgin, without her permission because after the fact she enjoys it? That's what happened in the last book and that's what happened in this one and I'm disgusted with this author. Nothing anyone says will sway me otherwise! Yes, she teased him out of anger with how he'd treated her but does that really excuse him for taking her in her SLEEP? In the last book, Jeremy got Danny drunk.

Captive of My Desires was a fairly good book but definitely not as good as some of the previous books in the series. After Gabrielle Brook’s mom passed away she searches for her father and finds out he is a pirate. For 3 years she lives at sea with her father while searching for treasure and making up for their lost time together. Then the day comes where her father decides she must go back to England and find a man to marry. She doesn’t want to give up her life at sea but she does so in order to make her father happy; after all a season in London is what her mother always wanted for her.

James and Georgina Malory sponsor her for the season since James owed Gabrielle’s father a favor for saving his life many years ago. When Gabrielle meets Georgina’s brother, Drew Anderson, she can’t keep her eyes off of him. Whenever she’s near him her heart starts to pound dramatically. The fact that he owns his own ship and loves living at sea is a big plus for him. Gabrielle adds him on the top of her husband list but Drew is determined to only get her in his bed, no marriage involved! He never plans to marry but instead enjoys having his women at every port. One night Drew is drunk and while at a ball he yells that Gabrielle is a Pirate. He does this out of jealousy (of course) since Gabrielle is spending so much time with another suitor. The outburst practically ruins her reputation, she’s so angry and no longer wants him as her husband instead she is determined to get revenge.

When Gabrielle finds out her father is being held captive she has the perfect plan to get even with Drew. She captures his ship, holds Drew as captive and sets sail to save her father. She makes Drew believe that she actually is a pirate (when really she's not) and captaining his ship. She’s also determined to make him crave for her and want her so bad that it hurts! Her plan was working quite well until suddenly the tables are turned and Drew is the one holding Gabrielle captive when he regains control over his ship.

This book was driving me crazy. The games that Drew and Gabrielle played dragged on quite a bit. They were constantly trying to drive each other mad until one of them gave in. Eventually Drew realized he can’t be without Gabrielle and proposed to her in an odd way. In turn, Gabrielle accepted but also in an odd way. I still thought it was a good book! Drew is quite a character!

Not one of my favorite Malory books. While I did actually enjoy most of the book and my biggest complaint isn't that large of a part it did make me take off a star. I was hooked at the beginning of this book and wondered who the woman to catch Drew would be. I was happy when Gabby came into the picture. I liked her character and knew it would be a good fit for the man with a sweetheart in every port. I was hooked into their romance all the way until the capturing of Drew's ship. Then we went through a stage of them saying and doing such horrible things to each other. And of course some how not being able to resist each other regardless of their bad behavior. Lindsey actually made Drew look very bad from my opinion. I just couldn't see the draw the more he did. Then of course everything magically came together and it didn't matter what horrible things had happened they were together and it was a HEA. While once things had gotten past the treating each other very badly the story was back on track for me I still couldn't get past the bad and didn't feel in my personal opinion it was resolved enough for them to move on. It's a small thing and the majority of the book was great and it was even entertaining for those bad moments just not leading to a HEA without some real working through their issues for my taste.

Book 8: Captive of My Desires
Payback can be quite passionate!
Gabrielle Brooks was raised by her English socialite mother. When her mother passed on she went looking for her father, and found out her father is a pirate. Well these days he is more of a treasure hunter. After three wonderful years on his Island he decides she needs a season in London and she is sent to the home of James & Georgina Malory. Georgina's brother Drew is quite handsome but says he's a confirmed bachelor. When Drew says the wrong thing at the wrong time, Gabrielle loses all chance of finding a husband. She also receives a message that her father has been kidnapped and she is the ransom. So what can she do but take over Drew's ship and keep him locked in chains, in his own cabin, only she takes over the bed!
When Drew escapes he turns the tables on her, but continues on to help her find her father. Will this confirmed bachelor have a change of heart for the pirate lady?
