A fun adventure into love and mystery. The conclusion is fast paced and exciting. It takes a while for the story to develop but the wrap-up is worth the effort. Tears are brought out of the reader's eyes as the mystery is resolved. It is also a story about overcoming your past worries, concerns and nightmares. More than just the heroine needs to confront their past issues in order to resolve this case. Every now and then I need a simple fun book to relax and refresh before tackling another serious text. This was just the trick for that.

Spell binding mystery. Great movement and characters. I would have loved more depth into the characters and their relationships, but overall a great read.

WOW, this is a thrilling ride and a page turner! It is one of those action packed novels with a great message that you won't be able to put down. Told from multiple points of view, one feels like they are immersed in a suspenseful mystery that needs to be solved. Ronda does a wonderful job with the main character Stace Cox as she struggles with he demons of her past and letting her guard down. She is learning step by step through the chapters to follow her heart and be persistent in her attempt to save the life of a young missing girl. There is even a tough of romance sprikled in :) This was a phenomenal debut novel and I am so excited her second book, Trapped is coming out this month. 4.5 stars to Missing, I would highly recommend it!

I had the opportunity to review a very intriguing book the other day. Here is what the back cover says:

A BYU-Idaho choir tour in British Columbia turns out to be anything but ordinary when soloist Stacie Cox spots a kidnapped child from Rexburg during a performance. Before Stacie can alert the authorities, the little girl disappears. Stacie vows to find and rescue her, a choice that forces her to deal with her guilt-ridden past and another little girl that haunts her dreams. When the handsome Matt Brennan helps Stacie in her search, she tries to resist the attraction she feels for him. Yet as he gains her friendship and trust, her resolve to never fall in love begins to crumble. And after a series of harrowing events, Stacie must decide if she is willing to sacrifice her life--and a possible future with Matt--to save a stranger.

Wow. I was captivated from the first time I picked up the book to the last page! Ronda knows how to keep her reader's attention. There was romance in the book which always wins my heart over. But that wasn't the main focus of the story. The main character Stacy spots a girl she recognizes at one of her vocal performances. The girl, Becka, was kidnapped. At first, the police do not believe her story. (That's because someone is feeding the police lies....

Who is feeding the police lies?
Does Becka ever get found?
Does Stacey ever open up to Matt?
All these answers and more are found in the book Missing. Buy it. It is a very well-written book. Any female in your life would want this book for the holidays.

Another author that is exceptional at writing a book so gripping that it can't be put down. This story deals with the issue of a college student, Stacie who lost her parents at a young age and has concluded that she will never marry because she doesn't want to leave her child with the hurt and loss of her. It's a lesson is never allowing love in order not to be hurt or hurt others when bad things may happen. Her mother died early of cancer like past relations and although her mother gave her life she left her causing a whole in her heart that is until she feels the love of a mother for her missing child and decides that maybe trying love is worth the risk.
When the BYU-Idaho choir goes on a trip to Canada, Stacie finds in the audience a face that she recognizes, a missing child from back in Idaho. When she goes after the child in the middle of her solo and comes back empty handed she doesn't give up, but uses every spare minute and then some while on tour to find the missing child even when the police and the girls own mother don't believe her. She has help in her trusted friend, Janice and the unexpected support of a fellow choir memeber, Matt, who ends up holding feelings for Stacie that she dismisses at first but then gives into her own in the end after her heroic save of the missing child.
There is thickening of the plot when a tragic event from Stacie's past involving a child's drowning puts doubt into the missing parents minds due to their association with the drowned child's mother and her anger still at stacie.

I loved it! It was such a good book and I was so excited to keep reading it and finished it in a day. It wasn't a difficult read, it was just hard to follow the main plot because she tended to word things...quickly. Once she explained it once in one sentence, she never said it again and continued on with the story. Where I read so fast, I tend to not catch up on those things because I'm absorbing so many things at once. Maybe if I had read it slower, I would have caught all those small things. That's why I like books who actually repeat things a few times just to make sure every reader gets exactly what they're talking about before assuming they know exactly what they're talking about. But I still enjoyed it because the more I read it, I caught on quickly and it had me excited the entire way! It was an LDS mystery book, two of my favorite things, and even had a cute love story attached to it as well. I like having the plot the main focus and the love part coming after, which was the case in this book, but it was just a touch too big in my part. Plus, the span of the book only lasts for a week, so I was really sad that I wasn't able to get to know the characters as well as I wanted to. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved it and will probably reread it (which I NEVER do with books unless they're really good.) sometimes soon.

Missing by Ronda Gibb Hinrichsen

For a first time novel, Ronda did herself proud. I really enjoyed this suspense story, not really knowing until the end, why Beckka was kidnapped from her home in Rexburg, Idaho. Stacie Cox, a young college girl on tour in Vancouver, British Columbia, with her BYU Choir, is singing a solo at Craigdarroch Castle, when she spots Beckka with a strange woman. When they disappear, Stacie gets help from Matt Brennan, a friend she is beginning to have feelings for, but has forbidden to get close to because of tragedy in her past that has come back to haunt her. There are a couple of other friends who also help in the search and the authorities seem to be of no help, as they seem suscpicious of Stacie's meddling.

When Stacie does get more involved, she gets in over her head, as there's more at stake than just a young child's life. When Stacie's life is endangered, there doesn't seem to be any way but to plung forward, even to endangering Beckka as well. She has to pull on her lifeguard skills if she's to save Beckka and everyone else.

I went into this book with high hopes. I'd heard so many great things about it--how gripping, how suspenseful, what a page turner. And I love a good read. But when I closed the book after finishing it, I have to admit I was a little disappointed.

Technically, Missing could have benefited from another round or two of editing. While I realize it's impossible to catch everything, two punctuation mistakes on the first page of chapter one were a little off-putting. I found a place or two where words were missing, making it difficult to decipher the meaning of a given sentence. Anything that disrupts my read like that tends to turn me off.

I like the main character, Stacie. She's engaging and believable to me. Though I felt the antagonist lacked depth and dimension. I found that particularly disturbing since we spent a large chunk of the book in her viewpoint. That said, I also didn't think it was necessary to be in so many characters' heads. The story could have been told better if the point of view had been limited to less than 4 characters.

I liked the storyline. I found it plausible and engaging. And I'd like to see what the author has in store for her next book. Any issues I had with Missing are easily overcome.

I have been on several choir tours, but never like the one Stacie Cox experiences during the BYU-Idaho choir tour in British Columbia. When Stacie stands to sing a solo during a concert at the Craigdarroch Castle, she sees, standing in the back of the room, four-year-old Becka, who months earlier had been kidnapped from Rexburg. Before the song ends, a woman leads the child out of the building.

Though she had never previously met Becka, she had been very involved in the initial search in Rexburg. Now that Stacie knows the girl is in Victoria, she becomes obsessed with rescuing her. She risks her life--for this young stranger.

Stacie must also deal with her guilt-ridden past and memories of another little girl that haunts her dreams.

When the talented and handsome Matt Brennan helps Stacie in the search, she tries to resist the attraction she feels for him, for she has resolved to never fall in love, to never marry. Yet he gains her friendship and trust.

Missing will keep your interest to the last page. It is a story of commitment, courage--and change of heart.

I would actually give it about 3.5 stars. I did enjoy it, but the longer I think about it, the more questions I have. Since it deals with kidnapping of a child, it may not be the ideal book for a parent. Here are some of my questions: *Spoilers* Why did Adrienne kidnap Becka? To become a Riana? But then why did she abandon Becka at the end? Matt seemed to turn in a different person by the end of the book. At the beginning, he seemed quiet, off-ish, slightly disagreeable, silent. By the end, he had become a similar character to Matt in the Undercurrents series, Bruce in the Uncommon Heroes series, and the many other Henderson, Allen, and Abramson male heroes. The more of this christian/lds, romance, mystery, suspense genre I read, the more similar the plot setups and characters seem. I can take a pretty accurate guess at where the ironic or unsuspected climax is: Probably about 30-20 pages from the end of the book. Things are starting to wrap and then the real climax pops out. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this book, and I may be being too critical.

"Missing"’s subtitle, "An LDS Mystery Novel", is slightly inaccurate as "Missing" is actually more of a suspense novel than a mystery. We know almost from the beginning who committed the “crime”, but that in no way detracts from the fast-paced twists and turns that await the reader. The heroine, Stacie, is a warm and sympathetic character, while Adrienne, the villain, is so diametrically the opposite that the reader will find great pleasure in wincing at her awfulness and rooting for her defeat.

"Missing" is strongly tilted towards an LDS readership, although anyone enjoying inspirational fiction will enjoy this, too. Some of the terminology, such as “Primary room”, “Relief Society room”, and “Cultural Hall” are distinctive to the LDS culture. Non-LDS readers can easily avoid confusion by understanding that these are simply names of specific rooms in an LDS meetinghouse.

Even though this is a typical LDS mystery, I was surprised by how much I liked it. I liked how it explained the background of what happened to the main girl so that you understood why she was so driven to find this missing girl she had never met before. I did think she got away with a little too much with her choir director but I did like the little love triangle. My heart went out to the little girl who trusted the wrong person and was treated so poorly. I got caught up in the story and wanted the main character to find the girl. However, I did think some parts were poorly written and some places made small jumps that made me go back and figure out how things connected. The bad men that the kidnapper communicated with were never really explained, nor was the man that she was hired to find.

I thought about being kind and saying "it was ok," but it really wasn't. I didn't like it and wouldn't read it again or recommend it to anyone. When I find myself exclaiming out loud "oh, brother!" over and over again, it is a red flag that the book isn't working for me.

I don't have the book to refer to any longer so can't give examples. I do remember the description of the main character pulling the gingerbread cookies out of the oven took nearly a page when it could have been stated in one sentence--and should have been. Another example is the nasty mother of the drowned child. I thought she was going to play a big part somewhere in the book but no, she was just there, taking up space.

This author could use a good mentor or writing class to help her work out the kinks and then she'd have a much better book.

This is probably the best LDS novel I've read. I actually found myself wishing for more LDS elements because there really weren't any until the last few chapters. Because of that, despite the book cover saying it's an LDS mystery, I think it's a mystery that would be enjoyed by any spiritual-minded person, regardless of religion.

A really great page-turner, Missing had me going right from the beginning. There were plenty of reasons to keep reading, believable and endearing characters and trouble piled on top of trouble for an adrenaline packed roller coaster ride.

This is Ronda Gibb Hinrichsen's debut novel, and I think she hit it out of the park. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced mystery and would appreciate a clean story to boot.

I really liked the story, the concept, the characters, the idea, everything. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I was highly entertained. I read it during a long trip home and it made the trip much more pleasant than it would have been. :)

Really, my only complaint is totally unrelated to the writing -- the cover design. I'm a graphic designer and do judge books by their covers. I'd seen it around a lot, but had never picked it up. If I had not met the author at Costco and heard her description of the story I probably would never have read it, and that would have been sad! I know most of the time the author has no say in the cover design, but I'm just saying. A better design with better typography and use of imagery would make for a stronger and more professional-looking book. :)

This book was exciting and suspenseful. Stacie Cox is on a choir tour with her school in Canada and during one of their concerts, she sees a little girl that has been missing from her town for a couple years. She then spends the rest of the time in Canada trying to find the girl and bring her home. While this is all happening, Stacie is caught in a love triangle but she says that she won't marry anyone because her family has a history of breast cancer in all the woman.

This is a great book on knowing what to do and having faith in what you are doing. This book also helps us to understand and know that we must learn from our past and we can't let it hinder our future. We need to take charge of it and change it into what we want it to be.

This book was good... but not the best. For some reason, several things in it bothered me. I hated how Matt seemed to easily dump his girlfriend that he was going to propose to for a girl that he'd barely spoken to. That normally doesn't bother me, but it did in this book. I DID like how the author explained her background and why she was so obsessed with finding this new girl. I liked the story as a whole since I have had dreams of finding missing children before. Weird, I know. But I'm glad it turned out okay! It was also cool how her lifeguard skills that she feel failed her with the first child, helped her save the second.

I kept turning pages, though it took me a few chapters to be clear on what was going on, who was who, and where everyone was. Once the plot got rolling, I was hooked. The plot turns were well-timed and unpredictable, and I liked the main characters, hated the villains.
I ran into a few clothing descriptions in odd places, some of the dialogue of male characters a little off (not what a guy would say), but I was drawn quickly back into the forward motion of the story, reading non-stop until 2 am.
A great mystery.

One day as I was walking by the book section in my local CostCo I was given a flyer about this book by the author. I went up the aisle a bit, and then turned around and went back and told her I would buy her book. As she was signing my book she told me that this is her first novel.

I think that Hinrichsen did a good job with this book. I found the story line intriguing. It was a fun read.

There were a few problems with editing...hopefully, that will be taken care of if there are later editions published.

2.5 stars. It's really not that bad, it's just not that good either. Better toward the end than the beginning. It shows promise, but lacked depth in the characters and had gaps that I found distracting. It did keep you guessing, not at "whodunit," but at their motives. I did find the parts that had to do with the missing little girl particularly heart-wrenching, and found myself getting emotional as I related these horrific possibilities to my own kids. I will read her next one, just to see.

2.5 is my rating...I thought she had a great story idea but I didn't like that the MAJORITY of the book is dialogue, that you don't get very much depth with the characters until it is vital and that on the cover it says LDS Mystery Novel but RARELY in the book are there any LDS connections besides saying they are in the Relief Society Room, attending BYU-Idaho and then at the very end there are a few prayers....I hope she continues to write and get better, she has a great talent

I Found this to be another read that was really Hard to put down, It was Remenicent of Novels like "Agitha Christy's "And Then There were None", but geared toward the 21st century full of action and suppense that was shown from two different points of view. Which for me only want to dive in deeper.

I also Loved the main Characters drive and determination to not stop searching untill She solved the case.

"A great Sherlock Holmes Style Adventure."

I think this book is very gripping and well written. I like the way the author structured her characters, all with very distinct aspirations and personalities. The protagonist was unique, thrifty and likable, just as the kidnapper was despised. The story line is simple, yet holds some unexpected twists and turns that left me in desperation of what the upcoming chapter would dictate. Definitely worth reading.

Very compelling book! I thought it was quite well done. The heroine was a very strong, determined woman. However, some of her motivations in the side plots didn't ring completely true to me. But as for the main storyline, I thought Hinrichsen did an amazing job keeping the suspense up until the very end.

Great story line that built the plots credibility giving it's twists a more realistic view. I loved going down memory lane to the places I remember in Rexburg...Porter Park, Broulims, and campus. I loved that place and so it was easy for me to picture things too. Even so if I hadn't lived there for some time I still would get the picture. The ending is so intense I didn't want to put it down.

I met Rhonda at a book signing and she was very nice. At the time I had picked up a copy of her book from the library as I wanted to read it before meeting her. I enjoyed this book and the story but I think it didn't flow quite as well as it could have. As this is her first book, however, I think she did a great job and I think its worth the read. Keep it up Rhonda! I'm right on your heels!

I read this book in less than two days. I was tempted to throw it out because of the lame romance side of the story that was poorly developed, but forcibly added since this is an LDS novel. However, I prevailed and was mildly interested in the mystery aspect of it. All in all, I think this book is most appropriate for young teenage LDS.

I literally read this book in one day! I loved it! I loved how I was able to put myself in her situation! It's really a must read! I also loved it because I share some of the same values as Stacie in the book. This book includes mystery, suspense and some romance(: it is really a must read for teens!
