Duty comes before love . . . or does it?

Bryn has been thrust into the center of attention—and danger—as the heir to the Mir throne. She struggles with placing duty above love, as the entire Baer kingdom must reckon with Rangar’s wrath at her decision.

But winter brings a shocking tragedy that forces Bryn and Rangar apart. As he denies vicious accusations, Bryn must disguise herself as a commoner and flee the Baersladen, posing as newlyweds with Valenden for protection.

Bryn and Rangar’s paths return them separately to Castle Mir: one as a prisoner, one as a queen, on a collision course to overthrow the usurper Captain Carr and win back her kingdom.

It's possible I was born in the wrong time. I've always been drawn to the past, the future, other worlds—basically anywhere but the here and now. I write fantasy to satisfy my nagging curiosity that there is more out there, just beyond the veil.

Until I find a portal through a magical armoire, I'll continue writing romantic fantasies with a touch of darkness and hint of magic.

I'm the author of fantasy romance sagas include The Godkissed Bride series and The Castles of the Eyrie series.

✨️Political Intrigue
✨️Rearranged Marriages
✨️Bonded Mate
✨️Duty over Love
✨️Plot Twists
✨️3rd POV
✨️To be continued cliffhanger

Not as good as the first book, but a solid 2nd book. There were a few moments where it dragged, and a few characters I would have loved to be developed more.

I still look forward to reading the next book in the series to see if the main characters finally get married!

I read the first book/story through Kindle Vella and loved it. So, I was excited for the continuation and Scarbound does not disappoint. It has action, adventure, intrigue, and love. I thought it was a bonus that the love wasn't just about the hero and heroine. There are many players on the map, and it's a tale about family too.

There is another book and I'm looking forward to it. Oh, and another bonus is the great world building.

Could not put this book down! Great second installment to this series 👏. Ranger is morally grey to the "T"!

Enjoyable, it reminded me of something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. But brutish princes and I’m in.

I did not enjoy this book as much as the first. It felt a bit underdeveloped and typos were very apparent. It dragged in places as well. Especially the forest/bandit plot. Many scenes could have been shortened or removed to make way for more world-building and relationship development.

Speaking of Captain Carr, he was a flat villain. I didn't see any layers to his personality. We at least got to learn about Mars's personality as a brother and a monarch. Every move and decision Carr made was bad just because he's the villain character. There was no middle ground or gray area between good and bad. Nothing made us question his motives or inner thoughts. I believe his character could have benefited from learning more about his role in Bryn's childhood and interactions with her parents.

Bryn and Rangar's intensity broke down for me. Their chemistry in the first book was magnetic; however, their connection fizzled out in this book. There was too much time spent apart and when they did finally reconnect, it was underwhelming and sort of gross. Rangar had been imprisoned without bathing for weeks and almost died on the gallows. He could barely speak yet they were immediately having sex in a dank, dark secret passage. That's not attractive nor is it realistic in a physical sense.

There were a lot of smaller, loose threads left hanging. While these weren't game changers for the overall plot, connecting those small strings would have made the book feel more real, more alive, and the world more substantial. For example, Bryn snuck out to the herb garden after telling the guards she was picking lavender for a bath. This was an important aspect of the scene that allowed Bryn to meet with another character in secret. Yet, she never once went to the lavender or brought any back with her. It was just stated that she "made her way back to her room." That was it. No journey back for us. Not even a mention of purposefully carrying lavender past the guards.

All in all, this book has a good story and plot, but the execution could have improved some. The world-building and putting more thought into details would have helped enrich the story rather than just mentioning places, names, and brief actions.

I enjoyed the first book but struggled to stay interested throughout the second book. I was happy about most of how book 2 ended but don't foresee myself reading book 3. There are a lot of things that are repeated throughout the book. I honestly feel like book 2 would have been way shorter if certain character backgrounds were not repeated 2-3+ times. Unfortunately it just got repetitive for me.

Better than the first!

I really enjoyed the first story and was excited to read this one. There were lots of twists that I didn’t see coming and ended up reading it in two days!

This book was everything I was hoping for after finishing the first book in the series. The book was well written, and I only noticed a few typos, though none of those were jarring enough to take me out of the narrative. The story flowed well, and the characters were likable.

It was interesting to see how the main character, Bryn, evolved throughout the story. I had to keep reminding myself that she was only 16. She was smart, kind-hearted, and had a strong sense of duty and love for her kingdom, despite the horrors that had been perpetrated against her. It was nice to see her finally come into her own as a young woman with a sense of strength of mind after suffering so badly from her naivete in the first book. I've grown to love Bryn as a character, and never found myself cringing at her decisions or questioning her intelligence as often happens in Young Adult books.

There was a lot of tragedy in this book - betrayals, lies, deaths, battle, and loss, and it was sometimes hard to read. I do want to warn future readers that there are moments of sexual violence in this story, and while not graphic, it may be triggering to some readers. Don't let it scare you off. It's a very small part of the book.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the final book in the series.

Somehow everything and nothing was happening at the same time. I liked how the first book ended -it added a great twist to the story but that twist was untwisted very sloppily; almost to get it out of the way or to further the new plot which is why I didn't feel like finishing or continuing after THE Tragedy hit the castle. I understand that it had a function for the story but I believe that it could've been solved differently and effectively better.

Ragnar *sigh* was so difficult to like in these 100 pages and I did not feel like reading his appeal and defences. Don't even get me started about him liking Bryn as a soft being, while she liked being challenged and grew as a young woman, very much adored her. In a perfect world, they would understand that they do not belong together. Ragnar fell in love with an idealised idea about Bryn and Bryn I don't know if she was and still is in a vulnerable situation I don't think she is that much in love with him.

also

Valenden and Trei are my sweethearts. Honestly, I might come back to finish this series just for

It is a very interesting story and like I said I will come back to it but for now, I need a break.
It's a DNF for now.

>Book Review – Scarbound

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Castles of the Eyrie series and ends in a cliffhanger. This book will tear at your heartstrings. I don’t want to ruin anything, so I will be vague. Bryn is forced to do something that will hurt Rangar. Once the news gets out that Bryn lives, assassins still upset over her royal family, target Bryn.

>The three brothers play such a large part in this book. Their surname is like Bear, so the 3 brothers feel like the 3 bears! The second brother, Val, takes Bryn to hide. They have a far-fetched plan to return to her home country and try to retake it.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. This book has a ton of shocks, surprises and true love. Magic really takes center stage.

This book wasn't as enjoyable as the first one for me. I found myself skimming quite a bit. The beginning broke my heart!, but I did enjoy the ending. This was a good second installment to the series, and I will continue with it.

Marceau has a beautiful way of writing character driven stories, and she did not disappoint here. Rangar and Bryn 💓

It's another easy to follow, light read, with swoon worthy love interests. I hope to see more of Rangar and Bryn actually together in the next book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ - well written, with nice pacing. As with the first, it's a low commitment, easy read.
🌶.5- It's giving black peppercorns
Infinite 🔥 - not just for the MCs but *surprise* characters, too! 🥰 EM knows what she is doing when it comes to writing swoon worthy all-your-fav-trope moments

Rangar. Bryn. Forbidden.

The second book was amazing. I’m used to reading some smutty smut books but this book brought me back to the angst, the waiting, the slow but torturous forbidden kisses and touches. There was a lot of character development in the book and Bryn is finally becoming more confident in who she is but settles at the end…….
I’m Hoping three end ups being her taking control. Besides the point.
Just read the book.
Battles. Love. Lust. It’s all the way around a good
Book series and I’m excited for book three!

The first half of this one was pretty good. I was excited to see how they would handle the cliffhanger from the first book. I also really enjoy the trio of brothers and their dynamics. Honestly though, Trei is probably my favorite, then Val is a riot, and Rangar is last on the list. He was kind of underwhelming in this one. The second half seemed to slow down a bit. I would say I liked the first one more.

Crazy ass turns and I loved it! 🌪️ Were they all actually believable? Not really but I jumped on to the train of following along and had a lot of fun. 👽 I lived for Bryns character development and definitely needed some holy water after those smut scenes 😂 It is a quick and slightly dark read. That one wacko did have his ending coming though and he deserved it.👀

How do you even write a review without spoilers for this one. I can’t believe all the events that happen to Bryn in this one. You also get to see another side of Val in this book rather than just a drunk flirt.

whirlwind

What a whirlwind story! The story picks up where the first book stops. There heartache, danger, excitement and magic thrown in. Once you start hold onto your book until the end it is a wonderful story.

just as exciting as the first!

We are thrust into a world of magic and yet we follow the life of a young woman who is is flawed and lovable. In all of the ways that count and the story holds you like a lover till the very end. I can’t wait to see what the next book holds.

WAAAAYYYY better than the first book. You can tell that the author is really improving in her writing and it shows. This was a far easier read and it actually kept my attention for the most part. I'm curious to see what the final book entails!

The fight for the crown continues

Bryn continues to fight and scheme for Mir, to make it right for her people. The angst and suspense is low in this book, making it a perfect little romance.

Keeps Getting Better

The plot in this series is most intriguing. There is loads of action and it all fits seamlessly. I never felt anything was rushed or a scene was placed for mere substance.

This is just as good as book 1. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I absolutely love how the author puts little snippets at the beginning of each chapter to give a taste of what awaits. There are a few on-page spicy scenes, but they are not descriptive. On to book 3!
