No one is who they seemed. My friend is dead. Klive King is a hitman! A supposed leader of Nightshade who might have killed her! Rather than being a simple lifeguard and bar-singer, Jase is doing favors for a top-secret agency. Now, he and Rustin want me to pull Klive closer, and make him sloppy so he can arrest him. There’s one I’m number one on Klive’s hitlist and my friend may have died in my place. How could Klive do this to her? To me? How could he lie so bad? How to move beyond the betrayal, fear, anger?! The yearning for who I believed he was … my heart misses a lie.
*** Someone killed Sara Scott. Were they aiming for Kinsley? She certainly thinks so - ME! I think I’ll make her believe I’m gunning for her, and I’ll use Henley to fan the flames of her fear. This affair was going to end someday. If only I could stay away … but love is a killer and I’ve fallen hard for a woman who is now my mortal enemy.
Couldn't wait for this installment! I had no doubt it would be as much as an edgy, sexy page-turner as the first 3! Enjoyed the close-knit friend and family elements that carried on in book 4- it builds a whole world. Loved the plot twisting and turning and the steamy scenes between King and Kinsley. I realized what took you several months maybe longer to create, took me a few days to enjoy (Stealing moments where ever I could, reading late into the night) Ahh that is the pleasure of a good book. The time thing feels disproportionate though. I feel guilty to be asking about book 5 already. But alas these books bring out my inner twenty-something self;), glad I found them, it is great fun to indulge in Jase, Kinsley and Clive's world.
Love the added music in the book (esp. playlist in the first books) some tracks I've never heard and really enjoyed reading and listening to them created that 4D experience. Well done.
Kinsley Fallon Hayes is a unique woman in her mid-twenties. She is a highly successful college track star known as Micro Machine, an academically and socially accomplished ‘All American Girl’ to the casual observer, a bartender, and an immature, dependent young woman who still lives with her parents and has very low self-esteem around men. Yet, she exhibits fire, spunk and fierce determination when physically challenged or when defending her friends. She has the odd habit of calling even young men her own age, “sir,” even in dating relationships, and appears to like walking the ‘edge,’ although she tells herself she doesn’t enjoy doing so. In the fourth novel of the ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ series, (‘Don’t Close Your Eyes,’ ‘Complicated Moonlight,’ ‘Mad Love,’ ‘Dangerous Games’) she continues to be sexually and emotionally attracted to two men; Jase, who is the brother of her best friend, and Klive who is the known kingpin of the crime organization, Nightshade. To make things more complicated, Jase is trying to infiltrate Klive’s organization for important reasons of his own. In ‘Dangerous Games,’ author Lynessa Layne continues to aim for the young adult audience, and also for other readers who still enjoy reading chapters devoted to roller skating, co-ed football games, partying, sexual tension and plot twists and turns. In this book, the author has also added hints of SM between Kinsley and Klive, which Kinsley seems to somewhat enjoy, as well as the unfortunate notion that young women can change 'bad boys' simply through loving relationships. Once again set on the beach, in bars, at parties, and generally, with friends, lots of alcohol, youthful hormones and insecurities, the book teases the reader with dangers facing Kinsley and the true motives of Jase and Klive. The dangers are real as Kinsley finds herself caught between Klive’s Nightshade and the rogue gang, Inferno. Reality in these novels is slippery and the author does an excellent job of popping new twists into the story line to keep the reader guessing. Written half from Kinsley’s point of view, and half from Klive’s, the reader is still left with less than a full picture of how this story line will eventually unfold as the series continues. The next in the series will be ‘Hostile Takeover.’
I won "Dangerous Games (DCYE, #4) in a goodreads Giveaway. I confess I entered the contest with the intention of giving it to a young friend if I won. When I told her about it, she was thrilled that she would be receiving it because she has read two of the first three volumes. As soon as she tells me her star rating, I'll post again!
I love this author’s style. Her books have everything romance, suspense, thrills, and steam. I love Kingsley by herself. She is a bad ass with the perfect amount of emotion in her as well. I love Jace and Klive but Klive is definitely winning now. I can’t wait to see what transpires next.
