If you believe in sex..er..love at first sight, then this book is for you.

Actually, if you believe in sex within 5 minutes of first sight and 5 rounds of hot, sweaty sex on second sight and not doing it on a bed until third sight at which time they realize they fell in love at first sight, then this book is for you. ;)

"If you are a lover of cowboys, this should be a series for you. This is the first in a trilogy of Chance brothers and the ranch they run. Nick is the ranch's vet. But the day Dominique meets him, he's digging postholes, so she thinks he's a ranch hand, as oppose to the ranch owner. Lets say, it leads to a very interesting, and hot, encounter." Wanted! was an enjoyable read - well written with loveable characters.

It's a case on instant attraction. Bare moments after Dominique and Nick meet, she is happily riding his baloney pony. They have no past, are complete strangers, then all of a sudden BAM she jumps on for a ride...and remarkably it isn't sleazy at all. Well I didn't find it that way, but I am far from prudish.

So after the bump and grind they find out Dominique is actually staying at Nicks ranch, giving them the inevitable time to get to know one another. And it's nice to see them going back to step 1 of the "I like you, lets date" game.

This story wasn't overly erotic even though she stumbles and falls on his c*ck in the first five minutes. The sex scenes are more sensual than hard core descriptive, which set a more romantic mood. Both Dominique and Nick were enjoyable to read about. They are typical everyday people, nothing flashy or unbelievable...it was just a smooth, well written and easy read.

If you are looking for something that you aren't going to need to concentrate a huge deal on, to sink into warm characters and enjoy a smooth ride - this book could definitely be the one for you.

I enjoyed this and want to continue the series! It didn't hurt that it was narrated by Savannah Richards (Therese Plummer) either. I liked the characters and the story. It was on the simple side, but sometimes that works even better.

Setting: Last Chance Ranch, Spirits and Spurs (bar), White Feather Gallery - Jackson Hole, Wyoming;

Theme: love and overcoming the obstacles;

Characters:
Nick Chance: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine; middle son; 1/4th owner of the paint horse ranch; father died last year, all still mourning; not heavy into the physical labor of a ranch – though jumps in as needed;

Dominique Jeffries: photographer; up until engagement a bit flaky and artistic – taking low paying jobs to support herself when she was creative… engaged to a practical man who guided her into traditional photography, portraits, graduations, weddings; she is doing well…. But after a 2 year engagement, he fiancé broke things off in favor of his boss’s daughter’s proposal… she takes herself off to the wild west for a week of forgetfulness, to rediscover her more spontaneous self… perhaps a sexual adventure;

Jack Chance: oldest brother; Ladies’ man; give responsibility to run the ranch; the day his father died, they were to go together to pick up a mare… but it rained, he bowed out to spend an afternoon in his girlfriend’s bed… dad went anyway, and died when truck rolled; Jack feeling very guilty, and has become workaholic, and pushing all on ranch to the same; different mother, and never called stepmom Mom, though not for lack of love on either’s part – he just always felt a bit outside the rest of them;

Gabe Chance: cutting-horse competitor; youngest brother;

Sarah Chance: loved her husband deeply; accepted the infant he unknowingly fathered before they had been courting as her own, and kept the secret as her husband wanted; loves all 3 of the boys deeply;

Mary Lou Simms: best cook in Wyoming; cook on the ranch;

Emmet Sterling: forman for 30+ years; won’t hook up with Pam, though attracted, because her bank balance bigger than his; money not that important to him… and he’s given big hunks in support of his daughter and her dreams;

Pam Mulholland: Bunk and Grub B & B; moved to Jackson 6 years earlier and opened B&B; like family to the Last Chance gang, and sends some of her overload to the ranch – perhaps with an eye on matchmaking; attracted to Emmet, not sure how to overcome his ego; is Nick’s aunt, though keeping the secret; very relieved and happy when Nick found out truth – happy to share her memories of her sister with him, and to be blood relative…

Roni: adopted sister, stock car mechanic – away during this story, I’m sure she’ll be in future stories – maybe Jack’s love? hmmm

Summary:
Dominique wanders around ranch with her camera – captures Nick digging fence posts… assumes he is a ranch hand… flirts… and he takes her to his teenage makeout spot and makes sweet love to her… she thinks a one time deal… he making plans for more (they are staying in the same wing of the house)…

She tries to keep distant – but she sits outside the office door late at night, when he is inside going through his father’s box – and hears a gasp… she goes in, and he is shell shocked – just reading that his mother isn’t his mother – and she offers compassion, and he loses himself in her and sex… and over the next few days, they talk, they make love (camping out at the Indian sacred space), they deliver a foal… she takes pictures… she tries to impose the voice of reason – both about the probable not so bad motives of those who kept the secret, to about her need to support herself, and to be independent – and it influences him.

When both admit to deeper feelings… and her unwillingness to impulsively give up her life, she leaves… but with Pam’s influence, goes to the local art gallery, shows Pam’s friend the director her pictures… and he requests she do a showing of her photographs – he’d arrange it all… and he makes peace with his brother, his mother, his aunt… and he misses Dominique – and she returns to the gallery opening of her photos – kept it a secret from him, wanting to see if it might work out, afraid it would bomb… but calls him to invite him … and he’s angry about the secret… but he can’t stay away… it appears to be a success… and he walks in… and whisks her to a storage room… and they confess their undying love… he insists no more secrets… and that she marry him whether photos sell or not… and she says yes… ahhh

This book was given to me last year by a friend and I just got around to reading it. It is the first book that I have read by Vicki Lewis Thompson, but found it to be throughly enjoyable. I've been all over Wyoming and the Grand Tetons so if you know the area it was nice to read about it and have memories of this area in my mind as I read. Hot Cowboys and hot sexing also make this a book a page turner.

The characters were believable and the plot was interesting. I could identify with Dominique in more ways than one. She is a professional Photographer who just got out of a bad relationship with her anal boyfriend who helped her to succeed in her business, but leave something to be desired in the emotional realm and in the bedroom. She opts to take a vacation out to Wyoming to get away from Indiana and her ex-boyfriend and all the hassels of her daily grind. While wondering through a meadow she happens upon Nick Chance. Nick is digging post holes to put up fencing there. She aims her camera and her sites on Nick...then one thing leads to another. Next thing you know she and Nick are having sex out on canvas in a remote area. The sex is so explosive that they are drawn to each other like Bees to honey. They both keep telling each other this is only sex...albeit the best they both have had, and they try to keep it about only sex until Nick discovers some disturbing news about his father and an affair he had with a woman named Nicole, of which he is the product of that affair.

Nick and Dominique really bond over Nick's bad news about his father and who his real mom is. They go out dancing and meet up with his mom who raised him and Dominique is supportive, and then brings up the emotional Elephant in the room. They are falling hard for each other, and yet she doesn't know how she can make it as a photographer in his town, or even in Jackson Hole.

Pam who owns the B&B where Dominique is supposed to be staying and was Nicole's sister (Nick's aunt), suggest taking some of her pictures she has captured on her visit to a friend of hers in Jackson Hole. He loves the pictures and offers to help her sell her works there upon getting a release for the pictures, which are of Nick and things around his Ranch.

Nick soon finds out that Pam is his aunt, and about Dominique's showing in Jackson Hole which opens up a world of possibilities to him and her. Nick wants her in his life and this will go a long way in getting her to move to the area.

I liked the HEA, and I can't wait to read more on the Chance brothers!

ok after finally getting around to reading this book, I realized one thing.... I believe I've already read it. Now I am just not sure if I have read the others, but I know I haven't read the entire series. DUH! how sad is that, to re-read a book I didn't know I had already read. Whatever did we do before goodreads? Geesh!!!

The book, its a fast, fun read, that pretty much takes you from point A to point B in no time. It's fluff almost at its best. They sleep with each other right at the start, which actually gives them a leg up in the relationship, it helps bypass the awkward dating moments. Then it becomes love really fast, not love at first sight, but close enough. There is some drama, but its cleared up pretty fast, again because its a fast read it has to clear up some drama at a fast pace. It doesn't clear up everything, but that's because its Nick's book. The other stuff going on in the book is related to the story as a whole but isn't directly about Nick. So it will get closed up but probably not until it hits that person's book.

I can't believe I read this book, and if I had seen the cover of it first I'm sure I wouldn't have. Being coverless is both the beauty and the bane of audiobooks.
Wanted! is perfectly adequate for a romance novel, but it's pretty bad by any other standard. I'm not giving it a rating since this book is clearly making no attempt to hide what it is (see the glistening, bare cowboy chest above...and is that a phallic cattle prod he's holding??? wtf?), and it seems kind of unfair to bring down its average simply because I'm not a fan of the genre.

Wanted! is the first book of Vicki Lewis Thompson’s Sons of Chance series of novels. It tells the story of Nick Chance, a vet who also part-owns the ranch he works for and on. Officially speaking, his brother is in charge, but Nick is the one who makes sure their precious horses are healthy and cared for. He loves his work, but he’ll also muck in and help around the ranch when necessary.

He’s doing one such non-veterinary task when he catches sight of a woman who’s pointing a camera at him. She’s gorgeous, and as the ranch isn’t exactly on the tourist trail, he assumes she’s there for a reason. Striking a couple of poses, Nick then gets talking to the photographer. There’s an attraction between the two of them, and before long, against both their better judgements, they act on that attraction.

Things quickly grow complicated when Nick learns that the photographer, a woman he now knows to be called Dominique Jeffries, is staying at the ranch as there’s no more room in the local guest house. So they’re going to be seeing a great deal more of each other over the coming days. The two of them, realising their predicament, decide that what happened should be a one-off, and they’ll never speak of it again.
However, the spark between them won’t be so easily ignored. When circumstances throw them together again, can they resist?

I haven’t read too many cowboy novels, but Wanted! has definitely made me want to read more, especially in this series. Thompson writes great characters, especially the sexy men, and builds up tension brilliantly. I very much enjoyed this book – the plot, the writing style, the characters and the hot sex scenes. I’d recommend this novel to fans of contemporary romance with lots of heat, especially if they like themselves a cowboy.

This book starts off seriously hot and never lets up. The heat steams up the pages becuase the chemistry between Nick and Dominique rocks. These characters are perfectly matched both in attitude and sexually.

Vicki Lewis Thompson is one of my all-time favorite writers and although this is much different from her Nerd or Hex series, her voice still shines through. It's a wonderfully crafted story full of great characters and you will smile as you read it.

One theme that Vicki seems to use in some of her books is that it's the heroine who doesn't want to commit. These heroines know what they want and at first it doesn't include a relationship. I love that! It's a nice change from books where the heroine is pinning for the hero who doesn't want more than a roll in the hay until the end of the book.

This book was so good I read it straight through - love how I can do that with a good Harlequin. I loved all the characters, it was very steamy, and had a great ending. And lets not forget about that cover - I think Vicki scored one of the best covers I've seen in a long time! It surely inspires you as you read the book to imagine the photos that Dominique takes of Nick.

If you've ever wondered if a Harlequin can be hot enough for you, check this book out!

When I first started this book I had some doubts as to whether I'd finish it. Not a lot of plot or character development for the first half of the book. Add in lots of casual sex between two characters I'd not yet engaged with and I was reading the book mostly because I like this author. During the last half of the book however, the story improved and I began to enjoy it. Things wrapped up a bit too quickly, but Harlequin books often do.

I'll read another one or two books in this series because I generally enjoy Thompson's writing. However, my commitment to this series isn't guaranteed based on my initial reaction to this book. Overall just an ok read.

Loved this! Nick and Dominique were great together. This is one of those sweet stories where you can feel the instant they fall in love. It has some family drama mixed in too. Oh and there is plenty of hot sex too!! Can't wait to start book 2!

First in the Sons of Chance western romance series and revolving around the Chance family and their ranch outside Jackson Hole, Wyoming, although the nearest town is Shoshone. It's June 2010 and hot enough. The couple focus is on Dominique Jeffries and Nick Chance.

My Take
The start makes no sense. His friend has a ranch, but Archibald can only get it when his friend loses it in a card game? Why didn't they simply go in together on it in the first place?

Thompson uses third person dual protagonist point-of-view from Nick's and Dominique's perspectives, so we learn their thoughts, feelings, and the actions they witness.

It's cute what Thompson does with Dominique's personality and character arc. Seems Dominique had been a wild child tamed by her ex-boyfriend. She does see the good bits Herman helped her with. Always nice to balance the bad with the good. Now she's attempting to find a balance between the two while noting the differences between that sexy cowboy and the stingy Herman.

More cute is the NOT-info dumping as we learn some of the boys' past, ahem, activities. I liked hearing how the original house evolved. We also find out how Pam could afford to buy the Bunk and Grub and fix it up. And why she wanted it.

That initial meeting between Dominique and Nick is, mmm, hot and shows off Nick's sense of humor, lol.

The ranch sounds like a great place to work. And never deny the power of the ladies to get things done, lol.

There's a lot that's character-driven with some of the action caused by Jack's obsession with keeping the ranch going.

Some of the conflict involves Jack's obsession along with Dominique's refusal to enjoy more than one bout of lovemaking with Nick. I gotta say it doesn't ring true for me. In fact it was annoying, which contributes to my thinking the pace was slow.

A couple of tenets from this story is to never decide no for someone else and be honest with your significant other.

The Story
It's only getting worse with Jack so serious since their father's death. He's working everyone to death. Then a wounded bird lands at the ranch, appealing to Nick's desire to help.

A help she'll return when Nick is tasked with sorting through their father's old trunk and discovers a hideous truth.

The Characters
Dominique Jeffries is a professional photographer with a successful studio, Jeffries Studio, from Indianapolis, coming off a break-up from Herman. Her mother is obsessed with the bottom line.

Today's Last Chance Ranch
Nick Chance is the middle half-brother and a veterinarian. Jonathan "Jack" Chance Jr is the oldest brother, riddled with guilt over their father's death. Bandit is a black-and-white paint, a top-earning stud, Jack rides. Gabe is the youngest, another half-brother, and participates in rodeos to show off their cutting-horses, including Top Drawer and Finicky. Jonathan Chance Sr had been their father until a few months ago. Sarah Chance is Jack's stepmother and Nick and Gabe's mother. But she's a mother to them all. Archie had been their grandpa. Grandma Judy, Sarah's mom, is recovering from a hip replacement. Grandpa Bill had died. Roni, a NASCAR mechanic now, had been a fourteen-year-old on the run from her abusive father; now she's their foster daughter who is on tour with NASCAR right now. Diana had been Jack's mom who ran off when he was born.

Mary Lou Simms is the cook who's been there for a long time. Mary Lou will surprise you! Emmett Sterling is the ranch foreman who loves Pam but can't be with her. Emmett has an expensive daughter. Nicole Elizabeth O'Leary is a nasty surprise for Nick. Ranchhands include Jeb and Watkins.

Butch and Sundance are a pair of dogs Nick rescued. Calamity Jane, Gabe's favorite horse, is pregnant. Coffee, a.k.a. CWC, had been the colt Jonathan Sr had gone out to pick up. Doozie is the foundered mare Gabe brought home.

In Shoshone . . .
Pam Mulholland runs the Bunk and Grub, a B&B in town. Josie runs Spirits and Spurs, a bar with live music and dancing. It used to be the Rusty Spur. Carolyn is one of the servers. Elmer owns a gas station and tries to slow everyone down. Lucy Bledsoe owns Lickity Split, the ice cream parlor, and is a great friend of Sarah's. Lucy fell in love with Tom at a wedding for one of Lucy's cousins.

Stuart, a friend of Pam's, runs the White Feather Gallery in Jackson Hole.

The Last Chance Ranch was born 1 May 1937 in a card game
Archibald Chance took a chance. Seth, Archibald's buddy, had a deed to a worthless ranch, the Double Zero. Eleanor, Seth's sister, is a seamstress. And Archibald loves her.

The Cover and Title
The cover is a range of yellows and greens with a sunset over a silvery body of water and a faint horizon of mountains. It's Nick Chance facing us from the waist up, tilting his brown cowboy hat at us with a smile on his face. I'm'a smilin' too at that bare chest framed by his green and black plaid shirt!. The title is white and a blend of script and sans-serif across Nick's upper chest. The series info is centered below it in white. The author's name is in yellow across his abdomen with an info blurb beneath that.

The title is broad-based and all about the three brothers and What a Cowboy Wants.

Hot! Funny and moving, thoughtful and deep too.

I enjoyed the cut and thrust between Dominique and Nick very much. HOT! The incidentals of their meeting and consequent relationship and the added ball curves of secrets becoming knowledge kept me glued to the story. I love all the family and friends that inhabit this world. I cannot wait to read follow up stories on them too. I was so glad this was not one of those horrible stories where you had to read another book to find the fruition. My only complaint is that the end although fitting was so abrupt for me. Did not detract from story though. 😍

Nick Chance is ready for action when photographer Dominique Jeffries mistakes him for a cowhand on the Last Chance Ranch. He’ll be anything the lady wants for a chance with the stunning young woman. Dominique had a bad breakup and just wants some fun with the shirtless cowhand she runs across and takes some great pictures of. As they both fight their attraction, they realize that even though they’re beginning to be interested in more than a quick fling, their circumstances make it seem hopeless. Good thing matchmaker Pam gets involved to help these two figure things out. I loved the family at the Last Chance Ranch, and look forward to reading more stories in this setting.

This isn’t my 1st book read from Vicki Lewis Thompson, but it’s my 1st of her western Sons of Chance series. I adored her characters and their back stories. I see a lot of Dominique in my self and found her totally relatable. Nick is sexy and has a heart of gold.

The only reason I am rating this book 4 stars is because I wished that it was a bit longer and that the end had a lot more to it. In my personal opinion, it needed too quickly and without enough detail.

Dominique and Nick had things steaming up from the second they met. When they both have past ghosts, they have to overcome them to make it work. It was a wild ride to watch the story unfold and since I fell in love with all the characters, including some old friends from previous books, it was a fast page turner and I wasn’t disappointed.

A great dose of instalust/instalove that I actually kind of believe. While we do spend sometime getting busy in various locations, we still get to spend some time with out characters getting to know each other. Throw in a bit of humor and this story was quite engaging. Overall, I enjoyed this story.

Enjoyable series

These are standalone stories featuring either one of the Chance brothers or one of the cowboys who work on the Last Chance Ranch in Wyoming.
This book features the second oldest son, Nick and photographer Dominique Jeffries an unexpected guest at the ranch. A love story with two secret laden people who find love in spite of their hang ups.

It’s really good

It starts out in a simple way: city girl photographer sees shirtless sweaty cowboy digging post holes, takes pictures, and complications follow. Wow it’s a good story and Ms Thompson tells it well.

"Secrets" should be a four letter word

Secrets are never good and always come out eventually. Yes, people get hurt, but is it worse now or later? Poor Nick got kicked every which way in this story. It takes a tough man to come up shining after that.

needs more

Not much of an ending. I’ve read several of your books and they always just end. No extension of what happened.
The stories are great but you need to add just a bit more.
