Highlander #3

The Highlander's Touch

Rate this book
He would defy the boundaries of time for one night in her arms . . . He was a mighty Scottish warrior who lived in a world bound by ancient laws and timeless magic. But no immortal powers could prepare the laird of Castle Brodie for the lovely accursed lass who stood before him. A terrible trick of fate had sent her 700 years back in time and into his private chamber to tempt him with her beauty—and seduce him with a desire he could never fulfill. For this woman he burned to possess was also the woman he had foresworn to destroy. When Lisa felt the earth move under her feet, the fiercely independent 21st-century woman never dreamed she was falling . . . into another century. But the powerful, naked warrior who stood glaring down at her was only too real . . . and too dangerously arousing. Irresistibly handsome he might be, but Lisa had no intention of remaining in this savage land torn by treachery and war. How could she know that her seductive captor had other plans for her . . . plans that would save her from a tragic fate? Or that this man who had long ago forsaken love would defy time itself to claim her for his own. . . .

“The only other calling I ever felt was an irrepressible desire to be Captain of my own Starship. I was born in the wrong century and it wasn’t possible, so I chose to explore the universe by writing fiction instead. Books are doors to endless adventure.” -KMM

Karen Marie Moning is the #1 NYT bestselling author of the Fever Series and Highlander novels.

An alum of the Immaculate Conception Academy, at seventeen she attended Purdue University where she completed a BA in Society & Law, with minors in Philosophy, Creative Writing and Theatre, while working full time as a bartender and computer consultant. She intended to go to law school but after an internship with a firm of Criminal Attorneys, decided against it. For the next decade, she worked in insurance, where she wrote intercompany arbitrations and directed commercial litigation. At the age of thirty, she decided it was time to get serious and do what she’d always wanted to do: write fiction novels.

Beyond the Highland Mist was published in 1999 and nominated for two RITA awards. She then published six more novels in her award-winning HIGHLANDER series, and received the RITA Award in 2001 for The Highlander’s Touch.

In 2004, she began writing the #1 New York Times bestselling FEVER series. The books have been optioned twice for potential franchise development by Twentieth Century Fox and DreamWorks Studios, but the rights are currently held by Moning who has expressed a desire to one day see it as a television series. Her novels have been published in over thirty countries. She divides her time between Ohio and Florida and is working on two future projects for Random House Publishing.

In case you're wondering, yes, I am thoroughly ashamed.

How can I possibly give this book more stars than Madame Bovary? It's disgusting. It's tragic. Worst of all, it doesn't even makes sense. I don't LIKE Historical Romance!

romance book
C'mon, I DARE you to find something dignifying about this.

I don't like TIME TRAVEL Historical Romance! I don't like modern woman meets warrior Highlander Hunk. First of all, it's been done - so many times. Never as well as Outlander, in my opinion. And I swear, if life imitates fiction then you'd better brush up on your Scottish history because ANY timetravel that is possibly going to occur will not be used to better humanity or learn and introspect about ourselves. No, it's going to be used solely to transport beautiful women back in time to the Highlands to experience a whirlwind romance.

Scotsman
Get in line, ladies...

And please note to any future Highland authors out there - Kilts were not invented in Scotland until 1725 and specific clan quilts weren't invented until the 19th century. Luckily Moning got one part of this right, in that Circenn wears a plaid, not a kilt (THEY MAY TAKE OUR LAND - BUT THEY'LL NEVER CHAFE... OUR BAAAAAAALLLLLLLLSSSSS!)

So I was dutifully informed by my harem of adoring lady-lovers that I should skip the first two books and I'm glad I did because I actually really enjoyed this one. Could it, should it and would it ever compare to the indefinable, unsurmountable, incredible Fever series? No, of course not and if you're expecting something quite as awesome then you ARE going to be disappointed. Circenn is no Barrons and whilst Lisa, who starts off making me roll my eyes, is no Mac, she is a reasonable female protagonist.

What saves this novel is it's interesting conceptualization of the time-honoured Highlander/Timetravel formula, mixed in with a strong, beautiful romance. It was very short of the time-honoured stays of the genre. Lisa doesn't get properly kidnapped ONCE. I know, I know. I was disappointed too. Nor is she ever threatened or almost raped, nor does she actually run away, faint, get lost, lose faith in the male protagonist for some blindingly stupid reason...

But you know what it's NOT short on?

sex1
If you guessed "women playing flaming violins" then you're all out of luck!

That's right. Moning, who I have arbitrarily decided writes brilliant relationship couples, also keeps to her namesake. As in, this book will have you Moning.

The woman knows how to write sex. It's just all so satisfying!

And really, if you're reading these kind of books for any other reason, then you really need to re-evaluate your life...

violin
You may need to discover ANOTHER use for those fingers...

Circenn and Lisa's story - Circenn is a half-human, half-fae man living in the 14th century. He is also immortal thanks to Adam Black slipping the magic Fae liquid that makes humans immortal into his drink when he was in his 30's. Circenn is quite the broody Brud (sorry couldn't resist). He placed a curse on a flask that causes the flask to come back to him. He doesn't realize that his curse will also bring back whoever touches the flask....Enter Lisa, who is working her night time shift in a museum as a cleaner. Her curiosity drives her to touch the flask and the next thing she knows she is in a bath with a naked Circenn in the 14th century. Lisa desparately wants to return home to her century because her mother is dying of cancer. Circenn cannot return her because he never learned how to properly use his Fae gifts. Circenn and Lisa fall in love but then Lisa finds out the truth about him ... namely that he is not a simple medieval Brude Scot at all. Great ending to the book, it would be nice to be able to sift around in time and fix things. I loved Circenn as soon as he accepted the magic in his veins.

Circenn wishing good night to Lisa: "Sleep with the angels tonight Lisa. Then come back and sleep with your devil who would burn in hell for one night in your arms." I think that is all that needs to be said about Circenn in that sentence. Bonus to the story: We learn a lot more about Adam Black and get to see him in a more sympathetic light. If you haven't read the Highlander series, I VERY highly recommend you give it a shot. Start with this book, it's great!

Now I understand why "everyone" loves this series! :)

Circenn Brodie is one of the most "delicious" heroes I've ever met. Truly tall, dark & handsome! The scene where Lisa finds him sleeping at her bedroom door had me melting into a puddle of love. It reminded me of a similar scene from Kinley MacGregor's Born in Sin and, come to think of it, Circenn's nickname was practically identical to MacGregor's hero's name in the same book, but I didn't mind it at all. I'm in love with Circenn and that's all that matters, LOL.

I liked Lisa too, but to a lesser extent - after all, who could top Circenn? :) Lisa was strong and brave, the perfect match for Circenn, and it was easy to relate to her indecision when she had to choose between staying with Circenn or going back to her mother. Seeing that her curiosity was the cause of her time-traveling in the first place, it was funny to see this trait of her pulling her into other "problematic" situations throughout the book.

I was never a big fan of time-travel stories, because you can really get "crazy" if you try to analyze all the possibilities behind this concept, but KMM made it work for me. When Circenn "explained" what could and what could not be changed when messing around with time-traveling, I was sold. "If one looks down the timeline, one can discern which things are irrevocable and should not be manipulated, and which things will make little difference." That said, I must admit to being slighlty annoyed with Anyway, if that was to prove how much Circenn loved Lisa, it was fine by me. :)

Despite all its "flaws", I loved this book and will definitely read the rest of the series!

Random thought: I'm a bit curious about Duncan Douglas, one of the secondary characters. There was a hint of something "good" about to happen to him, but no closure. I wonder if "his" story will be told later in the series.

Circenn is immortal in Scotland and he really hates it. He hates seeing people he loves, wives, favourite pets dying around him for the past 500 years.

Lisa lives in the 21st century. She is looking after her sick mother and she is working 2 jobs to pay for the bills. A little of magic and she ends up in old Scotland while Circenn has already taken an oath to kill her. Of course they fall in love.

In this book Adam Black is manipulating people's lives again and there is a huge revelation about him towards the end that it will make you go back and reread the parts of the book which included him. I know there is a story about him later in the series that I am dying to read.

My favourite scenes of the book:
-Circenn cleaning the barrels of his guns with tampons because he did not know what they are for.
-Lisa saying to Circenn 'I cannot die. I haven't even lived yet'

The Highlander’s Touch is the third book in Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series and once again we’re back with a heavy time travel influence. But this time, whether because I’m getting used to it or perhaps it was better written, the time travel didn’t bother me as much as it did in Beyond the Highland Mist and other time travel books I’ve read. I really do hope it’s just me becoming more comfortable with the theme, because it seems I’m missing out on a lot of great Highlander tales.

I thought this story was pretty good, and I found myself laughing out loud a few times. The relationship between our hero and heroine, and for me, one of the high points of the story was seeing though long over due and not nearly enough in my oh, so humble opinion.

I’m looking forward to continuing this series.

If a cursed flask holding an immortal elixir is what it takes to travel back in time to find a Highlander hottie like Circenn, then I’m getting my butt on the next train to the museum!

Lisa Stone is twenty-three years old. Her mother, Catherine is sick with cancer and solely relies on her daughter to provide for her in her dying days. Instead of attending college with her friends, Lisa works two jobs, one of which is at a museum. Little does Lisa know that the ancient flask before her is cursed to be returned to its owner once it is found. Unfortunately, Circenn didn’t anticipate that the person who touches it will also be transported to him. Back to the 1300’s.

Circenn is an honourable man, driven by rules and vows. But when this woman tells him she is from the future, Circenn doesn’t know how to deal with her. He is obligated to kill her by his vow with Adam Black, but when he puts his blade to her throat, his steady hands shakes.

It is Lisa’s presence in Circenn’s world that causes him to question himself. I found that I instantly had a connection with Lisa. The life she leaves in the twenty-first century isn’t really hers. Instead, she lives for the benefit of others. Here, in the 1300’s she has a chance to be herself and live the life she had always dreamed of having.

“I can’t die now,” she whispered. “I haven’t even lived yet.”

Moning has a knack for writing witty dialogue. Not only was the bitter back-and-forth banter between Lisa and Circenn amusing, it worked in slowly building up sexual tension that was combustible by the end. I found myself grinning from ear-to-ear while reading this book and laughing out loud at other parts. A book that can evoke any kind of emotion is one that is special.

“The gown was too small,” she managed.
“I see. And you astutely concluded this would cover more of you?”
“I was just about to put my j-jeans back on,” she informed his chest.
“I think not.”

I wondered how Moning would overcome the obstacles she has placed before her heroine. With this time-travel romance, Lisa must choose to either go back to the twenty-first century to care for her mother or remain in medieval Scotland to be with Circenn. The question is, what cant she live without? Her family or Circenn?

Moning drapes a rich background with the historical facts she has incorporated into this story and paired with a hero and heroine that are to die for, I found myself wishing the end never came.

Now I really must find a cursed flask!

Since I was thinking about bad books, I remembered I read this at the beginning of the year and forgot to add it to my read folder. The book feels like a writing exercise in preparation for the Fever series (which I loved). Yeah, she can write a sex scene but that's about it. Not recommended.

I'm glad I read this series out of order (these books can be read out of order). I'm honestly not sure if would have continued the series had I read the first three books in the series first. Personally, I don't think the series was particularly engrossing until after the third book. Books four, five, and six are my favorite, with book six, The Immortal Highlander, my favorite of the series. You must, however, read books four, five, six, and seven in order.

I recommend reading the series in this order: Kiss of the Highlander (#4),The Dark Highlander (#5),The Immortal Highlander (#6), Spell of the Highlander (#7), The Highlander Touch (#3), Beyond the Highland Mist (#1), To Tame a Highland Warrior (#2)

İskoçyalı'nın Dokunuşu

Cesur Yürek'i izledikten sonra hemen bir iskoç kitabı okumalıyım diyip bu kitabı okudum ve resmen Cesur Yürek'in fantastik devam filmini izliyormuş gibi hissetim. Film sayesinde olaylara hemen adapte olabildim. Mekanları falan o kadar güzel gözümde canlandı ki anlatamam...

Karen Marie Moning'in Ateş serisini okuyanlar druidleri bilir.

“She’d made him feel like a hungry animal, caged by his own rules, and all the more dangerous for it.”

I just don’t see any other Highlander book in this series topping this story! This story has left me longing for more of Lisa and Circenn. This book was so unique and I always love seeing glimpses of Adam Black being the demi god that he is. I’ve been intrigued by him since I read The Fever Series a few years ago. I wish I’d read these books first. Everything would’ve made more sense.

Time travel, linking and bonding. All of it I am here for. This story was so rich and delicious.

“Never had he felt so nearly violent with desire. She had roused deep, primitive feelings in him: possessiveness, jealousy that another man might see her clad thus, a need to hear her say his name and gaze at him with approval and desire.” This is what I love the most about Scottish warriors. They are super passionate. In war. In love. In life. Gimme!!! I need a Laird Circenn Brodie immortal guardian of the Fae hollows and GREAT highland warrior. He will always be my fave. Very Jamie Fraseresque!!!

Did I mention the sensualness and steam in this book? 🥵 Yeah, about that.

★★★3 Stars★★★-Please excuse my overuse of the word pleasant in this review because I don't think any other word to describe this novel better.*Wince*

The Highlander's Touch was a pleasant enough read to earn a 3 star from me.
I didn't love it but it wasn't in any way a bad read either.Just very forgettable.

Main Characters were pleasant enough but there wasn't anything overly original about them that made me want to root for them as a individual characters or as a couple. :/
The only character that plays an interesting role in this plot is Adam Black.,a mischievous faerie your probably familiar with,IF you've read the other books in this series IN ORDER...unlike me.

Would I recommend this read?
*Shrug* Sure,I guess. If you're in a mood for a pure highlander read with a pleasant enough plot.

I was going to write a review, but Im just completely blank. I will however say what I deem important to say - This book was awesome. Circeen had a manclub the size of an elephant. Lisa was horny all the time. They could freakishly read each others minds - a talent I wouldnt mind having with my husband. The story was funny. The story was great. A happily ever after with trimmings on top!

It would be a happy day to finally meet a woman who would bring Adam to his knees. He reminds me of Loki in so many ways, that beautiful bastard.

Sin was a great addition to Highlanders we have so far and Lisa was an improvement over the last chick hands down, still, I didn't enjoy it enough for five stars.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot/Storyline: 📖📖📖📖📖
Feels: 🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔💔
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
Romance: 💞💞💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋💋💋💋
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑🍑 (for the main scenes)
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥 🔥
Humor: Not much – maybe a touch with some of the dialogue

(These are all personal preference on a scale of 1-5 except the steam scale which follows our scale from The Ton and Tartans facebook group)

This is book 3 in the Highlander series and is also a time travel romance. This one takes place 200 years earlier than the previous two in the series. It also has Adam Black, the fae fool, causing some mischief. He appears in book 1 of the series (and not in book 2). So if you read in order you will get a bit more background on Adam, but it’s not necessary – I think this one would be okay as a stand alone.

While this book is time travel, it’s majority takes place in 1300s Scotland. Only 38 pages (or so) are contemporary time period, or about 10% of the book. Rejoice again, HR lovers!

Lisa works nights as a maid at a museum. When she falls asleep, she ends up trapped in the office and touches a cursed flask and is transported to the 1300s with a naked Highlander named Circenn that has made an oath to kill whoever returns the flask to him.

Give this book a try if you are in the mood for:
- 1314 in Scotland with Robert the Bruce making an appearance
- Time travel romance – the heroine is transported from current day to 1300s Scotland
- A touch of magic – curses, fae, and a magical, immortal hero
- Older hero trope? He is 1100 years older than her lol
- Mid steam – only rates as a 2 on the steam scale, but this book has so so many kisses, and so many sexy tension building scenes where they don’t touch, but it’s still so hot and also a few that were remembered/shorter so I didn’t count them.

Overall I really enjoyed this one! I love Circenn so much. He was super romantic and said things that just melted my heart and other….parts….lol. A big, brawny highlander that loves so deeply and cares so much.

Lisa...I guess I’m left feeling a little lackluster about her. I didn’t dislike her, really, but she didn’t inspire any strong feelings either. I found her kind of a ninny in some parts.

I didn’t understand the heroine fretting over how every day she spent in the past was a day she couldn’t go back to the future. Why couldn’t she go back to the moment she was taken? Or what if it was even longer in the future? We have no idea how this time travel business works so I didn’t understand the logic of the certainty in that thought (I would have understood a worried wondering more).

I was totally shocked by the ending. Even though I have read this one, I totally forgot about Circenn and his real history. Totally, totally forgot. Can’t say I loved the ending either, but it wasn’t horrible...I guess.

Here’s some highlights from the book

Here’s one of the many scenes where my heart went pitter patter

I enjoyed this one so much more then the first two.

Liked both main characters and much preferred the story.

The romance felt more real than in the first 2 books, and I much preferred that there were not other suitors, as in book 1 and 2, that the heroine uses to make the hero jealous.

The issues that I have though, remains as with book 1 and 2. Sometimes the language used (and not by a character gone back in time) is too modern. Although this one had a more realistic historical feel to it.

And again, as with book 1, sometimes things are mentioned that seem like they will have an impact on the story, yet nothing comes of it. For example, mentioning that there is now a warrant out on Lisa in her time, nothing ever happens with that - it is one random scene between Lisa's Mom and her friend, which I can see why that was there, but why make it more complicated mentioning warrants, when it is never going to come to anything.

And there was a bit with Circenn's friends Galan and particularly Duncan, when it seemed like they were being set up for a romance to happen in this book, or a future book but having looked, there seems to be nothing for them. So again, a scene with Duncan and and "intriguing" woman, that leads nowhere.

But overall, a much more enjoyable story than book 1 and 2, with characters I like much more. And an intriguing look into Adam Black's character and how he is more than he appears to be.

I really enjoyed the conflict and complexity of these characters, Circen is immortal and hates it in a way that makes the costs of immortality feel very real. Adam black, who appeared in earlier books in this series as a one dimensional troublemaker gets significantly more depth here and we discover things about his history. Lisa, the heroine of the story, is grappling with death in her own way, she is plucked from her 21st century life and pulled back in time to meet Circen while trying to support her dying mother after losing her father in a tragic car accident. I loved that this book showed some of the inconveniences of medieval life while also allowing Lisa to display wonder at entering a world she has no context for. And that despite the difficulty of her life in the 21st-century Lisa was neither completely thrilled nor completely relieved to find herself in a new time and place.

While cleaning her boss' office, Lisa comes across an artifact. She touches it and is transported back in time to the 14th century where she meets a very naked Scottish warrior.

Sounds great doesn't it? Well it is yet another fun summer read. The Highlander's Touch is the third book in Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series. Once again, we have the tall, well built, muscular hunk of a man as our hero. We have the requisite virgin. Add in a little fae mischief and we have a great way to spend the time waiting for Shadowfever to be published.

All kidding aside, I really did enjoy this novel. It was a beautiful romance with some very hot love scenes. I loved the psychic connection between Lisa and Circenn. There was just the right amount of the fae element. Adam Black appears as himself and as a young boy. The juxtaposition of past and present added some interesting humor, especially when Lisa discovers that Circenn had a room full of modern items. And the ending was beautiful...heavy sigh....

A great summer read. Going to read Kiss of the Highlander now. Can't seem to get enough of those Highlanders.

Live with me forever, cease my endless solitude. I will cherish you. I will show you world you've only dreamed of. I will walk beside you, hand in hand, until the end of days.

A time traveling paranormal historical romance that takes place mostly in 14th century.

In 14th century, warrior Circenn Brodie, bound by magic, places a curse on a flask, making sure the curse brings the flask back to him. In the 21st century, Lisa Stone works two part time jobs, one of them as a maid in a museum. She spots a chest with the flask in it, and grabs ahold of it. Before she knows it, she's falling... falling right into Circenn's chambers. Their passion and bond root deeply between them, making them inseparable... in every sense. This is the 3rd installment of Highlander.

Yay! I popped my paranormal historical romance cherry! I'm so glad I decided to pick this up. I don't like to give any spoilers in my reviews but trust me when I say THIS STORY IS WORTH THE READ. I have not read the other two but this can definitely be read as a standalone. I didn't feel like I was missing anything.

Circenn is magnificent and just oozes sex appeal. He's so thoughtful and kind towards Lisa. Lisa is a very curious woman who can also feel guilty. Circenn unleashes Lisa's worries and makes her feel powerful. I love their relationship, Circenn definitely knows how to treat a lady. Lots of steamy scenes. The secondary characters are lovable too. Circenn is 30 and Lisa is 24. If there are any questions, let me know in the comments.

6/5 ⭐️ if I could! This is my third time reading this book and it impressed once again. KKM is able to capture the PERFECT balance of history, future, paranormal & Scottish lore. Which I truly believe is difficult for anyone to write, let alone have it flow so beautifully. While this book is apart of the highlander series it does a fantastic job of standing alone with nearly zero references to the other books characters.

Both main characters come with a real world of baggage, much like you would expect in any modern day relationship. The book builds on the flaws of baggage & how they can slowly be dismantled when you learn to finally open up to those you trust.

The male MC Circen Brodie is a delightful person from the hints on visual appearance to his overall “moral man” personality. If you are looking for a romance novel that has a male interest that embodies good morals & honour this is your book.

Lisa our female MC is a women who’s be ravaged by bad luck & the endless grind. This shows in her unwillingness to open up and keep everything bottled. It isn’t until she takes a chance with Circen that both of their worlds & baggage begin to surface. But once the two characters fully appear to one another the result is explosive.

KKM also is able to weave in Adam our notorious villain Fae. However, she shows us a lighter side of Adam, arguable his human-side. This changes how the readers navigate Adam both in this books immediate context but also the future books to come. By the end of the book it leaves you with pity & a kinship with his character.

3.5 Stars

I loved the beginning. About 30% in everything slowed down to a crawl. Very little action of any kind. Mostly internal thoughts which became repetitive.
Around 70% things picked up again.
The steam is a very, very Slow Burn and while it was Nice, I was a bit disappointed. I expected more from these two characters with all their passion for things.

The ending was a mixed bag. There is a reveal that I sort of expected, but was interesting. It explained a lot about Circen and Adam.

But then things got a bit too jejune for me. I suddenly felt like I was reading a YA story! It became to Disney World. Make a wish, click your heels and POOF, ALL your wishes come true.

I liked this one a lot more than the last in the series.

Anyway, I will read book #4 next month. But, if it isn't better written than the first 3, I will stop them. Even though I like the characters, there is just to much repetitive thoughts to hold my interest.

Really enjoyed the story of a true Scottish Brute Warrior (of kilt wearing variety OF COURSE!) Cin and a woman from 21st century trapped in 14th century - Lisa Stone.

Lisa living through the worst time of her life with working multiple jobs & doing everything possible to make her mom's last days comfortable. Working as a night cleaning lady at a museum curiosity gets the better of her and opens pandora's box aka cursed object that send her RIGHT TO 14th century -> to Cin -> during bath time.
description

For a hardcore warrior Cin is an amazingly patient man who courts and woos (very seductively) Lisa, as she adjust to the idea of her new reality and at the same time grieving for her mother.

I really enjoyed appearance of grand-grand-grand parents of some of our beloved (and not so beloved) characters from books 1 & 2.

Adam...

NO NOT THAT ADAM! the fairy Adam lol
We meet a new side of Adam that made me go "awwww" him being a very important "creator" wink wink for this book. Nope not going to put that as a spoiler... take from it what you may.
As this book feels a bit out of place (jumping back 200 years before the characters of book 1 & 2 are even born... *sniff, sniff* I miss Hawk & Grimm)... but at the end I realized its probably a great set-up for Book 6?

My issues with this book:
WTF kind of ending is that???... yes, yes we got our HEA. Where is the Epilogue though??? and as I said ISSUES - there is bunch of stuff that's thrown in at the end that made me go...

Book 3 in Moning's Highlander series is better than 1 and 2 but still lacks some oomph. There's too much narration and not enough dialog at times. Circenn Brodie (great name!) is one sexy Highlander! Think of the most beautiful marble sculpture you've ever seen and that's Circenn--pure eye candy! The one off thing about him that he's 6'7! That's gigantic even if he is an immortal!

Lisa, the heroine, is a bit drab and some of the things she says or does reminded me a toddler stamping their feet in frustration. It seemed strange that she could go back to 14 century Scotland and suddenly start speaking in an older formal English when she's from the 20th century--it's like she didn't miss a step after the initial "shock" wore off. A bit too quick I thought. Circenn is what keeps this book afloat.

The steamy-scenes missed the mark each time--almost there but just out of reach of being really good. Even the first time they were "together" wasn't particularly satisfying and seeing as she was a virgin I thought a little more could have been said about her first time. It's almost as if Moning is embarrassed to go into more detail during the love scenes so she side-steps around it. The emotional connection they had was interesting and helped avoid "the big misunderstanding" that plagues too many romance novels.

Duncan is a great secondary character--plays the randy male very well! Even Adam comes out looking good when in Book 1 he was such a horrible mean fairy.

The ending is what really saves the whole book. A bit of a twist on the time travel romance. Leaves you feeling happy with a smile on your face :)

So, this was the first book in the series that actually had an immortal dude in it. I know, right? A Highlander series where so far only one guy is immortal.
I'll admit it wasn't bad in the beginning, but close to the end is where it took a turn for the, not worse, but totally and completely ridiculous.

I tell you, I practically saw it coming and had to speed read because I couldn't believe she actually tied it up in such a way.

And like the last two books, the heroines always - I repeat, always - end up pregnant.
It's like that is the formula for a happily ever after and without it you may as well end the world now.

But while Karen Marie Moning can write the romance aspect very well, her stories have plot holes so big I'm surprised I didn't fall into one. I kid you not.

In the end, the writing style wasn't horrible and the romance between the H/h wasn't too disgusting so I gave it a 2. Also, due to dialogue and all the "doonas" I was rather enjoying that aspect of it. I like the whole accent thing. Hah.

I'll keep reading these books until I get to the very damn last one, I tell ya. I really want to use "doona" in a sentence but I can't think of what to say. Darn it.

There were a lot of things to like about this book.
Circenn and his insistence on following a few basic rules - until he meets Lisa and starts breaking his own rules one by one. Circenn and his love for his family and his people. Circenn and his old-fashioned morals and gentleness. Circenn and his desire to make Lisa happy. Circenn and...

I found it very easy to empathize with Lisa and her problems in the present time, and to respect her because she put aside her dreams to work menial jobs and care for her mother. I liked that Lisa had knowledge of the 14th century & enjoyed 'losing herself' in the medieval wing of the museum - it made it more plausible that she could adapt to medieval life. What I couldn't understand was why she waited so long to explain why she wanted/needed to go back to her own time.
