To Catch an Heiress has a similar feel to the beginning of Brighter Than the Sun or The Duke and I - a lot of snappy, quippy, clever dialogue. This book read like an episode of Gilmore Girls in terms of dialogue, as there was a lot of repartee between the hero, Blake, the heroine, Caroline, and Blake's friend and co-agent James.
Blake Ravencroft is the second son of a viscount and an agent of the crown. His former fiance, Marabelle, was also an agent and was killed on duty years ago. He spends his time consumed by his job but looking forward to retiring to a quiet life - alone. His latest job leads him to accidentally kidnapping Caroline Trent, an heiress waiting to come into her inheritance, after he mistakes her for a smuggler.
I thought the characters were really fun. Blake was the straight man to James and Caroline's jokes, and Caroline was very silly - but in a realistic and charming way. Her mother died when she was a few years old and her father when she was 10, and so she's always wanted a real family but has spent more of her time alone....more
