Jessie After hearing the mixed response regarding this book, some love it, others not so much, I went in with an open mind. And I actually enjoyed it.
Jessie Burlingame and her husband Gerald travel to their secluded lake house in Western Maine, where they're preparing for one of Gerald's kinky sex games (Gerald's Game), something that Jessie has gotten sick and tired of over the years. When Jessie is handcuffed to the bed she begins to protest, and resists Gerald's temptations. Gerald suddenly suffers a heart attack and dies right in front of Jessie on the bedroom floor.
Still handcuffed to the bed, little chance of escape, Jessie realizing that no one is coming to help her, must face her fears and confront her dark past in order to escape her prison.
Definitely one of Stephen King's more graphic and disturbing tales, some parts even I struggled to read, which is saying a lot. Where it did tend to drag on some areas, it just felt so real, like you were the one actually handcuffed to the bed. ...more

Not much to say on the story (don't get me wrong, the story was good) without giving away spoilers, a friendly Saint Bernard named Cujo is out on a hot Summer day, when his life forever changed after chasing a rabbit into a hidden underground cave, and ends up being bitten by a bat, infecting him with rabies. Cujo slowly begins deteriorating, and causing violence and destruction to anyone in his path.
Another SK book I struggled with giving a 4 or 5 star rating, I finally decided on a 4 star rating, for 2 reasons. #1, I was expecting to book to focus mainly on Cujo (and the small amount of other characters), Not that I had a problem with the characters and the storytelling, it just wasn't what I was expecting. #2, When I first started Cujo, I went into it AFTER reading
[image]
, wherest both stories take place in the fictional town of Castle Rock, and the story in Needful Things takes place after the story in Cujo, so there were references to Dump contained in Needful Things, including spoilers that caught me right off guard, and it kind of took away the element of surprise when starting Cujo. So just a friendly suggestion, if you don't like spoilers, I recommend reading Cujo before Needful Things. Other than those 2 things, it was great, flew right through it it was so intense!
Even though it is purely fictitious, it is also very realistic, because it can happen to anyone, being around a rabid animal, and the way Stephen King wrote it, you almost feel bad for Cujo. ...more

The whole time I was reading this story of took every ounce in my not to envision Arnold Schwarzenegger as Ben Richards. As much as I enjoyed the film, the book was much better, and they're NOT at all alike!
Just like the Long Walk, (also written by King under his pen name Richard Bachman) the Running Man takes place in a dystopian United States, in the year 2025, the world in disarray and violence is rising, and run by a corrupt government. Ben Richards, a desperate man trying to support his wife and sick daughter, turns to the Games Network, a popular government-run television station that hosts violent game shows. Richards becomes the top contestant for The Running Man, the most popular and deadly competition.
Now forced to turn his back on his family, Richards is on the run of his life with government hitmen hot on his heels, and he slowly discovers that with The Running Man, you don't compete to win, but to survive.
A quick read that will keep you reading well into the night! Could not put it down!

Rosie Daniels is married to Police Officer Norman Daniels, who is very abusive towards her, and beats her nearly to death when she is pregnant, resulting in a miscarriage. Years later, Norman continues his abuse, and Rosie, who is too afraid to leave him, because he specializes in finding missing persons. Then one day, Rosie finally has enough and steals Norman's ATM card and leaves him to start a new life.
Along the way, Rosie falls in love with local lawn shop owner Bill Steiner, and discovering a mysterious painting that seems to be speaking to her, and Rosie soon finds herself in almost another dimension. As time goes on, people close to Rosie end up being hurt or even killed by Norman, and Rosie realizes she can't stop looking over her shoulder. To survive, she must enter her own myth and become a woman she never knew she could be, ROSE MADDER.
Stephen King once again has outdone himself, and delivers a beautiful and at the same time hauntingly disturbing tale! ...more

A fun entertaining early book by Mr. Stephen King that I have been wanting to read for some time, and I finally have!!

Until one day, something happens that will forever change his life, Billy accidentally runs over an old lady who's jaywalking. With his wife and daughter believing he has cancer and thinking he's crazy with talk about a Gypsy curse, Billy has nowhere else to turn to, so he goes out to find to Gypsy and reverse what's happened to him before there's literally nothing left of him.
I did see the film adaptation awhile back and from what I remember it was decent, despite it getting horrible reviews, but as always the book was much better! A must read for King fans, and he prepared for a surprise ending!!...more

Stephen King delivers in these 4 mind-boggling novellas! One featuring one of my new favorite SK characters, Holly Gibney!
We start out with Mr. Harrigan's Phone, young boy Craig befriends retired businessman Mr. Harrigan, and as their friendship devolops, Craig buys Mr Harrigan an IPhone, and Mr Harrigan who is very old school and despises technology immediately likes the phone. Then suddenly one day Mr Harrigan dies, leaving Craig heartbroken. At Mr. Harrigan's funeral service, Craig sneaks his phone into the coffin, and is buried along with the body. Then one day Craig gets a bizarre text message claiming to be from Mr. Harrigan's number. Is Mr. Harrigan really dead?
The Life of Chuck, is split into 3 parts and written in reverse chronological order, and explores the multitudes of Chuck Krantz.
Holly Gibney returns in the 3rd Novella If It Bleeds (which is a followup to

) now the owner of the Finders Keepers agency. It's just another regular day for Holly until she sees the News of a school bombing on TV. But Holly in her experience believes this was no ordinary bomber, and the mysterious reporter covering the news footage becomes her #1 suspect.
And last but not least, Rat. Struggling writer Drew Lawson has published many short stories but never a full novel. Suffering from writers block, Drew takes refuse in his family camp up in Northern Maine, where his life changes forever when he's household after a deadly storm sets in and he meets a rat that can speak, and makes a deal with Drew and helps him get rid of his writers block, for a price.
All 4 terrific tales, my favorites being Mr Harrigan's Phone and (of course) If It Bleeds. Now I'm all set for the release of

I'm frankly not a huge fan of Werewolf stories but it was by Stephen King so I was willing to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did!
Cycle of the Werewolf takes place in the fictional Maine town of Tarker Mills, each short chapter takes place during each of the 12 months of the year, and every month when the moon turns full one of the townsfolk of Tarker Mills transforms into a Werewolf and one person becomes a victim.
The protagonist Marty Coslaw, a handicapped 10-year old boy, who has an older sister and his redneck Uncle Al. The story goes back and forth between the victims of the Werewolf and Marty's day to day life and how the horror effects him. As the story goes on, Marty believes he knows who the Werewolf is, but nobody believes him.
A dark, scary but quick read, with incredible illustrations by Berni Wrightson, almost like something from a graphic novel. This is a book by Stephen King that you hardly ever hear about, luckily I found a used copy on Thriftbooks. Also made into a film adaptation titles Silver Bullet, which I've seen many times!...more

The Dead Zone follows the life of Johnny Smith, who has awakened from a 5-year coma after being in a horrible car accident, one nobody believed he would ever wake up from, well they were all wrong. Since waking up from his coma, Johnny has been able to experience clairvoyant and precognitive visions whenever he touches someone.
As much as I enjoyed The Dead Zone, once again I didn't consider it a horror novel, I've felt that with a few of the other SK books I've recently read. Still very enjoyable with unforgettable characters and a great plot. Also enjoyed the 80's film starring Christopher Walken!
