There were soo many strong elements in here which I liked and wish we really got to explore, but ultimately we were kinda held back by some strange plot holes and stranger character choices that didn't really make any sense. Oh well. Still a strong thriller though, imo.
I already know this book is going to on my underrated thriller books list.

First half really got me, ngl. Pans out like a typical YA with your standard mystery and thrills...and then that second half rolls away from you and all of a sudden you're falling head first into it all. Definitely one that is bit more mature than most YA thrillers I've read and a real great taste test for any new thriller seekers out there.
This was ultimately super messy and dry. You can literally skip and read the ending of this book to save time. There were some good WHAT WAS THIS???!!
This was ultimately super messy and dry. You can literally skip and read the ending of this book to save time. There were some good aspects and conversations to be had within the book about racial diversity and women in the workforce but the writing and I....were not compatible. It was just really flat; not a lot happened. Overall kinda disappointing.
For me this was, 'The Book of Disappointments', and then some. Wasn't bad actually, just wasn't what I expected. It's the way I read this in November and absolutely remember NOTHING about this book for me!!!!
This entire book was pointless. Tim screaming.
sigh
It's the way I read this in November and absolutely remember NOTHING about this book for me!!!!
This entire book was pointless. There were so many instances where the main character brings up valid questions (questions I even find myself asking), only for these questions to never be answered (be it through other characters shrugging them off or the MC answering herself by saying something along the lines of: 'I knew he would not answer, from the sneer/look/grimace/irate/flat expression of his/her/their face.') UM.....that's just lazy writing to me?!
Literally the wrong twin died. This girl literally goes off to find answers of her own in the dead of night with a killer still loose, Batman style, just winging it......
Also world building is still non existent. Time period? Hard to tell.
Overall, another hyped book that Book twitter and tiktok stans hyped up and for whattttttt. All I can say is that the fan art is waayyy more appealing than the entire book in general.
If you're looking for sinners and devils who are super hot and hell is a place of majestic proportions, then this book is for you.
Honestly? I didn't really feel anything for this book- -until the last 20%. That shit was hardcore. Worst friends to lovers trope I've ever see........

This book was basically about rich people having daddy issues who know how to surf and living their best (and worst) lives along side of the ocean.
I'm giving this 1 STAR for that ending I don't care how petty I'm being... The only reason I picked this one up straight after the first onS T U P I D.
I'm giving this 1 STAR for that ending I don't care how petty I'm being... The only reason I picked this one up straight after the first one was because of the cliffhanger and here we have yet another fucking cliffhanger- it's the way I'm being played right now!!!! ...more
That's it. That's my review. Am I a professional or what.
Honestly a super super strong 4 STARS for me. Hmmmm 4.5? I reaaalWOOOOOOWW........GOOD SHIT!
That's it. That's my review. Am I a professional or what.
Honestly a super super strong 4 STARS for me. Hmmmm 4.5? I reaaallly enjoyed this; I actually didn't think I would at first. But after the hurdle through the first fifty pages, dannngg I really ate this up.
If anybody asks me what this book is about, I literally still don't have a clue. I would say 60% went over my head with all the mechanics and magics and works of the place, system, school, whatever. And the exposition.....gOod gOd tHe eXPoSiTiON!!!!!!
This book should have been called A DEADLY EXPOSITION because I kid you not, if you took that all out, this book- the actual story- it would have been like 60 pages long. I don't think I've ever given such a high rating to a book containing and the majority filled with so much fucking backstory and information....but no regrets here.
Oh did I tell you I literally just bought the second book too? So no cliffhangers for me thank you very much!! Twitter | Bookstagram | Youtube |...more
I am convinced that Lee Mandelo purposely made up words in this book because let tell you, the amount of tThis was seriously so good. So fucking good.
I am convinced that Lee Mandelo purposely made up words in this book because let tell you, the amount of times I had to look up and use the dictionary....let's just say that Merriam Webster and I became well acquainted after this. Also not me thinking this was YA at first when I started it....it IS VERY ADULT:)
But this fucking book!!!!! I know that I am now infuckingLOVE with slow burn books; equivalent to a rollercoaster about to crest that first giant drop to rushing anticipation and that yummy gummy feeling you get when it does. Burn me please, I AM IN LOOOVVVVEEE.
I don't think I've ever read anything quite as grieving with a side of serotonin as this book, also served with a side of ✨depression✨. This one had really great themes exploring generational wealth, masculinity, internalized homophobia, identity, ghosts, familial curses, true friendships, and kinship. L O V E D I T.
I'm giving this a 4.5 (rounding a to a five) BUT I just know that ending could have benefited to even just ONE EXTRA PAGE. (The ending to me felt so rush compared to the rest of the book like I was thisfuckingclose to being satisfied!!)
Writing: EXQUISITE Story: BRILLIANT Characters: FUCJKED UP AND AMAZING
But The Boys? LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE
This book also has the strongest resemblance to The Raven Boys (but if Noah was the main character) which was so reminiscent and beautiful; this whole book was damn quotable honestly.
My new favorite. Excuse me as I make this book my brand and force everyone to read it.
The book is the byproduct ifDemon Slayer had a threesome with Lord of the Rings, and The Dark is Rising series. I'm dead serious.
This waOH SHIT!!

This was really good, in a slow moving and elegant kind of way. I would shelve this as 'light fantasy', so newcomers are welcome and anyone looking for less high strung intricate fantasy.
This is exactly the type of book I can see blowing up on BookTok (TikTok). We got a super slow burn romance, enemies to lovers, villain origin stories, characters reborn and reimagined, and basic YA tropes (chosen ones, best friend, warrior, love interest, etc.) all subverted and flipped on their heads. Very very nice.
However, while the beginning started off extremely strong, the middle half of the book kind of dragged a bit and I was looking at a 3 star read. And then the last 50 pages and the ending happened and so I'm left screaming and panicking and already NEED the next book.
FUCK.
I can already tell things are about to get really, really interesting. '
Oh did I mention the main character is bisexual?HERE FOR IT.
If I had to choose between The Secret History, If We Were Villains, and In My Dreams I Hold a Knife, this book would totally win. Probably one of the If I had to choose between The Secret History, If We Were Villains, and In My Dreams I Hold a Knife, this book would totally win. Probably one of the bitchiest and funniest characters I've ever read in a thriller, Jessica will undoubtedly remain a long time favorite. It's the main character energy for me!!

Probably the most ✨unique✨ fantasy I've read this year; Ms. Margaret Rogerson does not disappoint!!
While it is a little slower and much more dialogue heavy than her other books, I still found plenty of things to enjoy about it and loved the relationship between ahem, *Artemisia* and the Revenant.
They both plucky little shits and one of them knows it lmao (iykyk).
However, Sorcery of Thorns still comes out on top! Probably will have to reread this before the sequel comes out though.

Not gonna lie, I had rather high expectations regarding this book. This retelling is almost point for point from the original storyline with some slight key differences. The parties though, are definitely a spectacular sight to explore and feel through. I just wished there were more elements that were explored and explained upon in the book (Jordan's ability, the magic system, maybe even forking off from the original stance and story of the Great Gatsby and blooming into something else, something vastly different.)
I think Alderman tried to juggle too many things at once; it all jumbled together in a convoluted mess that in the end, didn't help bThis was MESSYYY.

Probably the least gory and brutal than the other standalones I've read but still equally strong and devilish on iKarin Slaughter has done it again!!!
Probably the least gory and brutal than the other standalones I've read but still equally strong and devilish on its own. And way sadder too. I've never really read a thriller that hit me in the feels quite like this before. While not as 'action-packed and twisty' as her other books, I still thought it was another solid masterpiece from the thriller queen.
this was utterly magical, captivating, and dreamlike.
This was like an idyllic dream where the stories are twisted and told from a different point this was utterly magical, captivating, and dreamlike.
This was like an idyllic dream where the stories are twisted and told from a different point of view; not the way you would expect to hear. This was super slow moving with almost very little pay off. And that was okay to me. Not a lot happens. In a way, it's about the history of starting over, forgetting, and remembering the broken pieces of a home, the sense of belonging.
The writing in this book was so fucking sexy and beautiful. It was very delicate and yet tangible at the same time. This is the type of book where lost things are found and remembered. A quiet book, almost the feeling of being silent.
