HOWEVER, the first 30% of this book is incredibly weak and the reason why I can only give it four stars.
The biggest issue is the writing feels very lazy in the beginning. The world-building is practically non-existent and what we do get is confusing. It's also so damn repetitive at times! If I have to read seven moons one more time I will scream - I had flashbacks to Lightlark's yolk foreshadowing! (IYKYK)
This book really improved around the 36% mark and I was honestly excited to read on. It would be a 5 star read for me except the first third of this book really drags it down.
Once the "romance" between Talasyn and Alaric started to progress, I was hooked. The enemies-to-lovers made so much sense and the back and forth between them was entertaining. The angst, the sexual tension was perfection. Enemies-to-lovers is such a good trope and Thea Guanzon really does is justice. These two are truly at each other's throat for the majority of the book and I can't wait to see how they progress in book 2.
I also really enjoyed Talasyn as a character - she's stubborn, fierce and impulsive. I'm excited to see how she develops in the next book because the author had laid a good foundation for her.

The last 30% had me crying heavily, I knew we would lose some characters but losing the (view spoiler)[ thirteen (hide spoiler)] was heartbreaking. Considering how long this book was, it's crazy how some parts felt incredibly rushed (looking at you Gavriel and Aedion scenes).
I could have also done with less of Nesryn's chapters because after book 6, her chapters really didn't add much to the story.
And yet, watching Aelin become Queen of Terrasen was just as spectacular as I thought it would be. Her journey, heart wrenching as it is, was written beautifully and her coronation had me bawling like a baby. (view spoiler)[ I'm frustrated with Maas' decision to have Aelin lose all her powers - it definitely fuels my theory that Maas' hates powerful female characters and doesn't know what to do with them (hide spoiler)]

Rebecca Ross has absolutely blown me away with Ruthless Vows. This book had me sending ugly crying selfies to my book friends (apologies to the recipients of those photos). I'm genuinely so excited for fans of Divine Rivals to read this book, because I just know they're going to love it even more than book 1.
Ruthless Vows starts two weeks after Dacre heals Roman, and the repercussions of this for both Iris & Roman. Book two gives us a better insight into the war between Dacre & Enva, particularly for the soldiers fighting on Dacre's side which I loved. Ross switched between POV's flawlessly and always at the perfect moment.
I was worried that I was not going to enjoy this book as much with Roman and Iris being separated, but Ross handles it beautifully. The pure love that these two characters have for each other is so wonderfully written that I could just cry thinking about it. They may be one of my favourite YA couples.
The writing in Ruthless Vows felt so much stronger, and Ross has a way of writing the most gut wrenching passages without disrupting the flow of the story. Ruthless Vows is a stunning conclusion to the 'Letters of Enchantment' Series.

This book was missing that spark I loved in book 1 - I think maybe the characters were not as likeable in this book. I really missed Rush and Clarke and found it hard to connect with Laurel and Thorne.
I also disliked that the book structure feels exactly the same as book 1. Would loved to have seen the author take a risk and mix it up a bit but it just felt like a copy of book 1, without the interesting world-building.
I do enjoy how easy these books are to read.

I've never walked away from a book having enjoyed it without outstanding what is going on. Plot? Literally could not tell you. The relationship between the MMC and FMC was the saving grace of this book and will be the reason I keep going. Liam and Dianna are such fun, morally grey characters and I can't wait to see how they develop.

This book takes us through the plot of book 8 from the POV of some of the dead characters that are mentioned throughout the series - particularly, the parents of the Vega twins.
Whilst this book had some fun scenes, and it was interesting to see how much the dead characters influenced the story in book 8, I would much rather have book 9 than this. I'm very much at the point that this series just needs to be concluded. It's clear that extending the series is predominantly about money, because it's definitely not for the story or plot.

What I Liked: ◉ The plot - I wasn't too sure what to expect going into this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. The world-building was subtle and the plot was surprisingly unique. I wish we'd seen more of the war, and the history of it. ◉ The ending - wasn't expecting that ending but I'm super excited for book 2! ◉ The writing - this is my first book from Rebecca Ross and I enjoyed her writing style a lot, very easy-to-read.

Slightly disappointed with the plot in this one, felt like this book lost its momentum and we didn't even get any character development to make up for it.
I'm also starting to get bored of Barrons caginess and lack of honesty around Mac... at first it was enjoyable and now it just feels pointless and a way to keep the reader going. I'm two chapters away from googling the answer.

This isn’t a bad book and I think the majority of people who liked the first one, will love this one. It just didn’t hit right for me. Definitely a ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ book.
I didn’t love where they storyline was going and found the pacing to be a bit all over the place. The first part of this book I really struggled to continue and I really didn’t enjoy my favourite characters anymore.
The writing style is just as good as book 1 but I just didn’t connect with the story this time around.

What I Liked: ◉ The writing style - super easy to read and enjoy. I flew through this book so quickly and I love when it feels like you're not reading. ◉ World building - the author really set this book up well, without throwing too much information at the reader at once. ◉ Pacing - there's no time to get bored with book, it flows so quickly and you just end up flying through it.
What I Didn't Like: ◉ FMC - I'm hoping the author has made her annoying as possible in this book, so we get to see some excellent character growth in the sequel. The 'pick-me' energy was strong with this one. ◉ Plot - I think it took a little while to get into the heart of the book, and this almost felt like it was a set-up to the second book. The focus on world-building made it feel like the plot was pushed to the side at times. ◉ Lack of romance - I've been told this is a slow burn but honestly, we barely got a sprinkle. NOTHING.

Lor, who has spent the last 12 years in prison with her brother and sister, is kidnapped and brought to a neighbouring kingdom and entered into the Sun Queen Trials. Lor has to compete with nine other tributes for the Sun King's Heart and must face four dangerous trials to do so.
I think I had high hopes for this book, so naturally it left me a little disappointed. I found the trials were very weak, considering the book is based around them. Whilst I enjoyed Lor's character, she was the only character that felt somewhat developed. The other tributes fell flat, which led to me not caring too much with what happened to them.
The plot was very predictable so I'm hoping book two will have a few surprising plot twists.
This book has left me with so many questions and I will need to read book two just to have some closure. It's definitely a fast-paced romantasy, just very poorly developed. ...more
