I did find the explicit child rape scenes to be unnecessary to the book, and could have been handled a lot better. It almost felt like trauma porn at times...
River & Rain are both unlikeable characters and I have no emotional connection to them. I might like Rain slightly more than River, but only a little bit.
I'm continuing with book 2 as I have a special edition of this book, and want to know if it warrants me keeping it or not.
Side note - I dislike this author's approach to trigger warnings. When your excuse to not including them in the book is "I don't want to spoil the plot", it just gives me the ick. Having now read the book, trigger warnings would not have spoiled this book at all. This isn't a masterpiece that needs to be locked up and to be quite honest, I've read this exact plot several times, and it's really not special enough to require trigger warnings to be hidden. ...more

This book was a mess, and it felt like she couldn't handle four love interests. A shame because I loved her other series and wanted to know more about these characters who feature in her other series.

Liam Ravage, the oldest brother of the Ravage family, loses his best friend and ends up the guardian of his 16 year old daughter. The books follow their relationship after a one night stand in Catalina. Liam discovers that Zoe is a submissive and is slowly dragged into the BDSM world by her.
I'm so glad that this book starts with Zoe at 18, and she's been 18 for a few months which I prefer! I think if I'd seen Liam and Zoe interact when she was underage, I might have struggled with this book. And I loved their relationship development, it was extremely well written so bravo to the author! I never got the ick over their age-gap and she somehow managed to balance the guardian x ward, student x teacher and dom x sub well.
The third-act break-up felt justified in this book, and it never felt messy. It allowed both of them to grow as people and learn how to communicate and understand each other's needs. Liam is struggling with his guilt around his relationship with Zoe, and Zoe is still healing from her parents death and becoming independent/finding herself. When they finally came back together, it made sense.
I need to go back and read book 1 but I'm extremely excited for Orion's story. Step-sister romance... SIGN ME UP.
Tropes included: - Age-gap (20+ years) ( 19/40) - just to note, nothing happens between the characters whilst the FMC is underage. - Guardian x ward - BDSM - pleasure dom x submissive - Teacher x student - Third-act break-up...more

The big reason is both Odette's and Illi' chapters became extremely repetitive and I was mored interested in when Lips turned up, rather than their story. You can tell the author really enjoys Lips' as a character, however in this duet it needed to be toned down.
A fun duet that adds some fun little details to the Hannford Prep series. Now I might just have to go back and re-read them! ...more

When she Harlow has spent the last 13 years in captivity watching 18 girls being brutally tortured and murdered by Pastor Michaels and Mrs Michaels. Harlow is unable to remember any part of her old life and the memories she does have of the last 13 years are a mess. It's a race against the clock to catch Pastor Michaels as he continues to kill girls at an alarming rate unless Harlow is returned to him.
Okay, this book did feel slightly slower than book 1 but it was still hugely enjoyable. The plot twist was so well done and believable!
I love Harlow's journey and I'm preferring this over the romance aspect of the book to be honest.
Enzo & Hunter are definitely my favourite boys but I am enjoy Leighton & Theo more....more

What a conclusion! I loved this book more than book 3, although book 1 was definitely the best in the series.
This book did get a little bit crazy and unbelievable at times and I think the plot twist for book 2 should have been the big plot twist for this book. It felt like book 3's plot twist was just included to shock the reader, rather than it making sense.
However, this whole series was such a fun ride! Would hugely recommend it for a darker why choose romance, and I'll definitely be reading J. Rose's other series'. ...more

Killian and Story started to feel a little too incestuous for me, despite not even being biological siblings. Tristan wasn't as funny in this one and Rath's sex scene with Story just felt like something taken from Wattpad.
This is the end of the road for me with this series....more

The first 27% of this book had me convinced I was going to DNF it. But once Story (the FMC's name is a little cringey) moves in with the three Lords - Killian, Tristan and Rath - the book becomes a lot more interesting.
The stalker storyline does feel slightly obvious - shoutout to Madi for spoiling this for me when I was definitely in the 'DNF' mindset, and confirming my suspicions. The most addicting part of this book is Story's developing relationship with each of the Lords. Warning - they are all complete arseholes and the FMC is a little pathetic but, it's still weirdly enjoyable.
I would highly recommend reading the trigger warnings before reading this book because SA becomes the norm that I actually stopped noticing it.

I WAS ADDICTED. I adored the plot, the mystery and Harlow beginning to heal from her captivity. The boys were an interesting bunch, although I definitely preferred Hunter and Enzo.

The Butcher was an interesting side character in Hannaford Prep and I was intrigued to find out more about him and his wife Odette. Odette's story is heartbreaking and I adored her chapters so much. Her healing was so well-written and I loved the relationship development between the two. The Butcher's chapters were a little repetitive at times but I did enjoy his scenes with Lip, and the other members of the Twelve.

This book has 0 reasons to be 600+ pages, I can tell you that right now. The Ritual is a bunch of poorly written smut with a dash of plot on the side. Some of the scenes were so stupid I found myself laughing like a goober... at the gym, especially during the sex scenes.
It's just so stupid.
