Just how would this Hana Westerman thriller resolve? Had she gone too far? Was there no way out? I had to creep downstairs and finish this book. Now, I wanna know if there will be another book in this series. So, will there?...more

I did try, “I don’t read any nonfiction, outside of recipe books.” “Well,” he countered, “What do you normally read?” “Murder mysteries,” I explained, thinking fondly of my Karin Slaughter love affair. “These books are better than what you read!” The gleam in his eye brightened as he explained, “These stories actually happened - in real life!” “But…” I floundered, what about the attractive detective with dyslexia and the dog named Betty? “Well..” my resolve growing weaker by the minute. “I suppose I could try this one…” And so, I tried. And wouldn’t ya know it? This one grabbed me and held onto me until… I started reading the reviews of other readers. And then I read the final chapter. Twice. Wait - what? I’m not sure. Maybe I should try another nonfiction book. One that doesn’t have recipes in it.
Note to mom: nope - not for you - uh, didn’t Brandon Sanderson just publish a new book - you should read that one! ...more

Some would look stricken, glance quickly around the room to see who could hear their response, and inform me, “I couldn’t read this. It was too graphic. It is…” they would pause to gather courage before continuing, “too much.”
Some would say, quite frankly without fear of reprisal, “You’re reading Karin Slaughter, what do you expect?”
And some would say, “I liked it. It was well written.”
Honestly? I was surprised I hadn’t read it sooner.
Note to Mom: no, I do not recommend this book for you....more

Alas, I am now contemplating purchasing a chicken purse, a chick coinpurse, a chicken necklace and a copy of Rogue Male. Of course, I was ridiculed by my family as I tried to explain this amazing book - and they started talking about a rip in the space time continuum and how bodacious it was - what were they talking about? But, whatever. They will never understand just what I feel. “Party on, dudes.”...more

I don't watch sports. I don't play sports. I don't understand all the rules or how to play or score a game as technical as tennis. Doesn't matter. Taylor Jenkins Reid made this all a compelling read that I had a hard time putting down at the end of lunch. Sometimes, I would wake in the middle of the night and have to see if Carrie Soto was going to win the next match - thank you Libby, for making this nightly indulgence possible.
The real kicker? When I told a co-worker I was going to read this book, she informed me that I would not like this book - that the author's writing style was not something I would enjoy. This was fabulous advice for someone like me, as I set forth to prove how much I appreciate and enjoy this author (not much - Taylor Jenkins Reid is one hell of an author).
I've already placed another book by her on hold - oops - I've run out of time. Back to work I go!...more

It was a fun read - great sense of humor, the whole plot, etc. and then I shared with a coworker the author’s name and she said, “Oh, haven’t you read Hoot?” And I’m like… uh… no? So… while I was planning on reading the entire skink series, I may be derailed for a bit. But I think I want to read Team Rodent next....more

We had a difference of opinion about the moral of the story. She thought the moral is that you should always be brave. I think the moral is that, no matter what else is going on in your life, you must remember to brush your teeth every day. Fun read, but I think you should stand when you read this aloud and make sure to wave your finger around when you repeat the chorus, “No, I’m not scared (now point), you’re scared!”...more
