En tombant par hasard sur le trailer du film du même nom. J’avais aimé (j’ai pas vu le film, trop pauvre) et du coup je me suis dit que je devais le lire et sincèrement, je l’ai dévoré en une nuit et j’ai fini par pleurer. Je ne regrette pas mon choix, c’était trop triste.
On suit la psychologie de Conor, un enfant qui vit mal la maladie de sa mère. On voit son évolution à travers une créature imaginaire. Un géant. Ce monstre dit qu’il est là pour lui et qu’il y a une finalité qui l’attend. On découvre tout ça à travers trois histoires. Trois histoires dont les fins n’ont rien de joyeuses. Je ne vais pas entrer dans les détails concernant Conor car ça sera vous spoiler toute l’intrigue même si on suppose bien le sujet principal. Mais j’ai vraiment adoré la tournure de la chose, si bien qu’à la fin de ma lecture j’ai pleuré car ce que ce garçon a vécu et a réalisé à la fin de son périple, je l’ai aussi vécu mais j’ai mis plus de temps que lui à lâcher prise. Patrick Ness à une écriture poignante, agréable à lire et saisissante.
La version que j’ai, c’est celle ou il y a des extraits du film avec des interviews exclusives et des croquis de la créatures. Il est juste magnifique ! Il y a plein de photos, plein de détails… Bref, je suis fan de cette version.
Je vous invite à le lire, à prendre conscience qu’il faut savoir savourer les moindres petits moment avec l’être aimé, à savoir dire… au revoir même si cela fait mal. Il faut croire que je suis entrée dans ma période spéciale « assassins », j’ai l’impression de lire que des romances centrées autour d’eux. Bien entenIl faut croire que je suis entrée dans ma période spéciale « assassins », j’ai l’impression de lire que des romances centrées autour d’eux. Bien entendu, qui dit assassin, dit meurt et histoire plus sombre que la normale, des personnages torturés, de l’action et une enquête à démêler. Avec No Good Dead, chacun de ces points sont présent, créant un romantic suspens vraiment sympa avec tout un tas de personnages qu’on a hâte de revoir par la suite.
Able est un assassin depuis des années, il a toujours eu un don pour les meurtres mais attention, il est minutieux dans ce qu’il fait. Ayant grandit dans des foyers, il ne s’est attaché qu’à très peu de personne et il cultive encore aujourd’hui un caractère assez froid et détaché, mais avec une touche d’humour bienvenue. Son frère adoptif Samson est la seule faille que l’on voit chez lui, celui qui fait ressortir ses sentiments, tout du moins jusqu’à ce qu’il rencontre Teagan. Après avoir passé du temps avec la jeune femme, il se remet en question, entraperçoit un avenir inespéré et surtout commence à croire qu’il reste du bon en lui. C’est un personnage vraiment intense et entier dans tout ce qu’il fait, sa carapace est loin de cacher que c’est un sanguin et un passionnel.
Teagan lui ressemble d’ailleurs sur certains points puisqu’elle n’a pas peur de se salir les mains et se mettre en danger afin de venger le meurtre de sa sœur. Elle s’infiltre dans une entreprise afin de découvrir les raisons de cet assassinat et devient à son tour la cible. Able va alors la sauver et la protéger, tout en réveillant en elle des émotions qu’elle ne ressentait plus depuis un bon moment : la sécurité, l’espoir, la passion et le désir. Teagan est une femme forte et admirable qui se dévoile très ouverte d’esprit avec une grande capacité d’adaptation. Par contre ce qui m’a déplut chez elle, c’est cette volonté de se faire des idées sur tout sans preuves, souvent avec des idées préconçues, et du coup se monter la tête inutilement, notamment avec Able.
Leur relation commence de la plus mauvaise des façons puisqu’Able apparait dans un moment de faiblesse de Teagan et que cette dernière ignore pouvoir lui faire confiance. Ils sont forcés de travailler ensemble afin de s’en sortir vivant, tout en surmontant une attirance physique palpable. Il est donc logique que leur couple se base avant tout sur le sexe, comme une sorte de moyen de se rassurer et décompresser. Mais voilà, rien ne se passe comme prévu, alors qu’ils essayent d’en rester au purement physique, ils commencent tous deux à s’ouvrir et les sentiments pointent le bout de leur nez.
Par contre, bien que la romance soit très présente, ce n’est pas le cœur même de ce livre. C’est avant tout l’enquête qui réunit Teagan et Able, comment ils vont s’en sortir sans dommages, mais pas uniquement ! On découvre l’univers violent des assassins, leurs vies dans les ténèbres, la solitudes et le doute, pourtant certains sont proches et forment des groupes ou « familles ». C’est le cas avec le cercle de connaissances d’Able et on rencontre des personnages incroyables et plutôt atypiques qui titillent notre intérêt. Tous les membres sont différents, il y aussi bien des hommes que des femmes, avec des idéaux, des dons et des passés différents. On sent bien d’ailleurs qu’il y a une histoire entre deux d’entre qu’on hâte de voir davantage explorée !
No Good Dead a été une belle surprise pour moi, écrit de façon simple mais allant toujours droit au but. Il y a une facilité évidente dans l’enchaînement de l’intrigue, l’action ne ralentit jamais et il y a suffisament ce qu’il faut de scènes érotiques pour faire des pauses. Pourtant, tout cela était vraiment addictif, on a du mal à lâcher le livre une fois commencé. C’est donc avec très grand plaisir (et impatience) que je lirais la suite de cette série qui en mérite la peine !...more

Bon, déjà, je peux dire que ce second tome est nettement meilleur que le tome 1. Ouais, ouais, il est beaucoup plus dynamique, il y a énormément de suspense et d’action. Franchement j’ai bien apprécié la nouvelle tournure qu’à apporté Taylor Brooke à cette série.
Brooklyn est devenue beaucoup plus entreprenante, révoltante. Ouais, là je reconnais une héroïne qui a du caractère. Après je ne peux m’empêcher de faire la comparaison (même si elles n’ont rien de comparable niveau force de caractère) entre Cassie de la Cinquième Vague et Brooklyn. Je l’ai peut-être pas dit dans ma précédente chronique (chose que je vais de ce pas arranger), mais ces deux protagonistes ont quelque chose en commun que je ne saurais dire. Et pourtant, quand je vois Brooklyn, ben c’est comme si je voyais Cassie.
Ceci étant dit, Echo Campaign a des petit air de Labyrinthe (ouais ouais, j’ai pas mal de références XD). Un groupe de scientifiques qui font des expériences sur des gosses afin de voir leurs capacités se développer pour en faire des armes et si ça se foire, ben ils se transforment en Surros, créature bizarre qui ressemble à un zombie et qui sait sprinter (hein !). Mouais, mouais, je sais, ceux sont des histoires vu et revu mais ici, on est dans une situation différente. Enfin… non pas vraiment. J’avoue que j’ai un peu de mal à la dissocier de d’autres livres que j’ai pu lire sur ce sujet. D’ailleurs rien qu’en vous écrivant ces quelques lignes, je revois Forget Tomorrow de Pintip Dunn (dont j’attends avec impatience les tomes suivants).
Echo Campaign a sa propre identité, ça c’est indéniable. Les personnages ont vu leur caractère évolué avec une force qu’on espérait pas voir depuis le tome 1 et l’univers dans lequel ils évoluent est juste… comment dire… un peu épicé. Car on se retrouve avec une touche de trahison en la personne de Gabriel (mais rien ne dit que c’est le cas !!!!). J’ai le cœur qui palpite dès que je cite son nom (qui je rappelle est la best friend de Brooklyn et le béguin de Dawson) parce que Gabriel qui était plus ou moins effacée dans le précèdent tome, est juste remarquable dans celui-là, en plus on ne sait pas sur quel pied danser avec elle. Au final, elle est avec ou contre la team ? Est-ce qu’elle en se fait manipuler par Isolation ?
Tiens en parlant d’Isolation. Juneau Malloy qui est le père de Porter (qui est le béguin de Brooklyn) est le méchant presque super connard. Bon, au point où j’en suis, il n’est pas encore le parfait super connard mais je pense qu’il ne saurait l’être. Après, les complices… euh… je les trouve plat… quoique… hum… entre deux alors. Je les trouve pas chiant, ni sans vie, mais en même temps vu leurs métiers, ils n’ont pas trop le choix que de mettre un « masque ».
En résumé, Echo Campaign est bien parti. Taylor Brooke y a mis pas mal de punch dans son histoire et ça rend la situation plus qu’intéressante, voir passionnante car à la fin de chaque chapitre, on a juste envie de savoir ce que chacun réserve à l’autre....more

Pourtant, avec le couple que forme Valentine et Knox, on se retrouve avec une lecture bien différente qui n’a rien à voir. Un coup de foudre peu avant la St Valentin avec une demoiselle passionnée par les gâteaux, le pauvre Knox aurait pu tomber sur bien pire !
Valentine déteste son prénom au plus haut point et ne parlons pas des vacances à qui elle le doit. Malheureusement pour elle, c’est en cette période que sa petite pâtisserie fait le plus de ventes et elle abat un travail monstrueux durant la semaine précédente. Cette fille est passionnée par son travail et elle adore tout ce qui est sucré, ce qui fait qu’elle néglige ses relations, jusqu’à sa rencontre avec Knox.
Knox est tout aussi imperméable aux relation que la douce Valentine. Il travaille dans les chantiers car il aime bien construire des choses de ses mains, mais il aime encore plus que tout se retirer dans son cabanon et profiter du calme de la montagne. Avec son physique de montagnard, il ne laisse pas indifférent les gens et surtout pas la pâtissière qui retient toute son attention. La différence d’âge importe peu, il fera tout pour l’avoir.
Alors que la romance entre ces deux-là est tout ce qu’il y a de plus classique, même l’histoire de différence d’âge qui est un plutôt vu et revu, cela reste une histoire d’amour mignonne et sympathique. Et surprise, les scènes érotiques ne sont pas très nombreuses mais très chaudes ! L’accent est pour le coup mis sur l’évolution de leur couple atypique et le réveil de leurs sentiments respectifs.
Encore une nouvelle spéciale St Valentin signé Aria Cole et avec un style totalement différent de sa précédente. On se retrouve avec une histoire un peu plus rapide et intense, une histoire d’amour qui a des obstacles à surmonter tels que la différences d’âge, l’ouverture à autrui et surtout la confiance. Ce livre aura été une petite surprise de tout point de vue. Tout d’abord, je ne m’attendais pas à cette sortie qui a été avancée pour la St Valentin, Ce livre aura été une petite surprise de tout point de vue. Tout d’abord, je ne m’attendais pas à cette sortie qui a été avancée pour la St Valentin, puis j’ai été étonnée par la longue de l’histoire puisque c’est plus proche d’un roman que d’une nouvelle. Et en dernier lieu, il y a un énorme bonus à la fin qui fait la longueur d’une nouvelle et qui est très attendu des lectrices lorsqu’elles ont fini de lire Her Touch.
Maggie est une jeune fille de 16 ans très mature au début du livre, elle est sur le point de fêter ses 17 ans après un énième déménagement et son père a invité un militaire qu’il a formé à venir vivre avec eux. Maggie a le coup de foudre pour lui mais bien que 8 ans d’écart ne semble pas être un gouffre énorme, la société ne voit pas les choses ainsi et le beau Eli se force à se contrôler. Lui est un militaire qui a dû rentrer au pays après de graves blessures et depuis il est un homme torturé, cependant sa rencontre avec son rayon de soleil, Maggie, va tout changer pour lui. Une famille est à portée de mains et un avenir s’offre à lui.
J’ai beaucoup appréciée la romance douce amère entre ces deux-là qui se déroulent sur plusieurs années. Au début, Maggie est bien trop jeune et Eli doit tout faire pour ne pas craquer face à son désir et ses sentiments pour elle. Puis un drame va de nouveau les réunir et leur donner enfin une chance d’être heureux ensemble. C’est une belle histoire d’amour qui doit surmonter bien des obstacles et surtout le regard d’autrui. Les émotions sont mises en avant, la sensualité apparaissant peu à peu mais sans prendre le devant de la scène.
La différence d’âge et le fait que Maggie soit mineur, sont des thèmes parfaitement bien maîtrisés et mis en valeur dans le livre. Mais ce ne sont pas les seuls ! L’idée des familles recomposées et des secondes chances sont aussi abordées et ont une très grande importance. Le père de Maggie, Thomas, joue un rôle capital dans leur rencontre et l’évolution de leur relation. Il en va de même pour Alice, la meilleure amie timide mais délurée de Maggie. Ils ont tout deux des mystères les entourant et le bonus de fin répond à presque toutes nos questions !
Alexa Riley sont un excellent duo bien huilé qui je trouve rayonne dans les Young Adult et New Adult, un peu comme si le fait de patienter et ralentir les choses nous fait savourer que davantage leurs histoires. J’ai adoré les mâles alphas et les innocentes demoiselles qui font fondre leur coeur qu’on suit dans Her Touch et j’espère bien relire quelque chose de cet acabit dans pas très longtemps !...more

C’est une histoire d’amour des plus classiques mais qui reste assez sympathique à lire dans l’ensemble.
Tanner Valentine est un taciturne pur et dur qui fait un travail inattendu dans son cas : il fait pousser les roses les plus uniques et magnifiques de la planète. Cet exemple typique du montagnard ours mal léché est en réalité un romantique dans l’âme et qui est prêt à tous les sacrifices pour celle qui est l’élue dans son cœur, la belle fleuriste Rose. Avec elle, il devient possessif et obsédé par autre chose que ses roses, mais je regrette le manque de profondeur dans son caractère, il manque des détails sur son passé ou ce qu’il aime.
Rose est la fleuriste de la ville, elle a hérité de la boutique et fait de son mieux pour qu’elle reste à flot. Elle a beau être attiré par Tanner, elle est totalement incapable de lui dire ce qu’elle ressent. Elle souffre de graves angoisses et surtout d’agoraphobies, en plus d’un manque total de confiance en soit. Personnellement, tout ce qu’on apprend d’elle m’a donné envie de lui donner des claques, je n’ai pas du tout réussit à compatir avec elle.
L’histoire d’amour qu’ils vivent est assez rapidement puisqu’elle se déroule en un peu moins de 3 mois, mais surtout originale au début. Rose porte une bague à son annulaire et bien qu’ils aient tous deux eu le coup de foudre pour l’autre, rien de se déroule durant des semaines. Puis on découvre la vérité derrière la fameuse bague et tout se passe en vitesse grand V. J’ai eu comme une impression de gâchis puisqu’on a droit qu’à un enchaînement de scènes érotiques avec un minimum d’émotions.
C’est du pur Dani Wyatt, ça on ne peut pas du tout se tromper dessus. Mais j’en attendais bien plus de cette romance pour la St Valentin, c’était bien trop léger à mon goût. Il n’en reste pas moins qu’on ressent bien l’ambiance typique de cette fête et que la lecture reste plaisante si on ne se prend pas la tête....more

Cependant, je peux affirmer qu’il n’est pas loin du coup de cœur et je vais vous dire pourquoi. L’histoire est très intéressante à suivre même si l’idée du mec riche et de la nana pauvre en quête de… de je ne sais quoi, est vu, revu et sucé comme toujours. Bref, c’est un peu beaucoup redondant et chiant mais bon, ce qui fait que cette idée reste potable pour certain c’est bien la façon dont on gère les perso et leur environnement.
Ici, on part dans un complot qui est assez gros à suivre. Une guerre familiale dont on ignore complètement la finalité, sachant que le patriarche/pilier est sur le seuil de la mort. Je ne vais pas entrer dans le détail concernant les frères. Mais Shane est celui qui a la tête sur les épaules et qui fait tout pour que cette entreprise familiale reste sur les rails avec une bonne image. J’aime beaucoup Shane car il est très mature et sérieux. Il est fort sympathique et j’apprécie son caractère charmeur. Emily, est tout aussi agréable à suivre. Elle n’est pas niaise (ouais c’est déjà un très bon point), et surtout elle a une confiance… non, franchement, j’adore Emily. Enfin, non « j’adore » est un très grand mot mais j’aime bien ce personnage.
En tout cas, Lisa Renée Jones m’a vraiment plut par son style, son écriture, ses personnages. Plus on avance, plus on envie de savoir ce qui se passe et surtout comment tout cela va se terminer. En tout cas, je vais continuer cette série....more

Le mariage arrive à grands pas, un peu trop vite au gout de Willa, mais elle a compris que son père était heureux avec la célèbre actrice Mia McCain, alors Willa garde ses craintes pour elle et les soutient, même quand Mia décide de leur donner un programme bien chargé pour les trois prochaines semaines. Willa ne veut pas apprendre à danser avec Finn, dimanche prochain, et elle veut encore moins gouter les gâteaux pour le mariage, car elle a déjà pas mal à faire avec le lycée et l’examen final qui approche. Mais pour le bien de son père et de Mia, elle fera un effort. Le seul problème dans sa nouvelle petite vie de famille idyllique, le gros point noir de Willa, reste encore Finn. Finn, le fils de Mia, le garçon dont tout le monde au lycée est dingue, est son Némésis. Elle a plusieurs fois essayé de s’entendre avec lui, mais rien à faire, elle n’y arrive pas, il a le don pour la mettre hors d’elle et pour lui donner des papillons dans le ventre.
Finn ne tient plus, cela fait quatre mois qu’il vit dans cette maison avec Matt et Willa. Il fait tout son possible pour voir Willa le moins possible, non pas parce qu’il ne veut pas la voir, mais parce qu’il le veut tellement qu’il pourrait faire quelque chose de stupide, véritablement stupide, comme l’embrasser et plus si affinité. Alors qu’il a promis à Matt de ne pas toucher à sa fille, il n’arrive pas à calmer les sentiments qu’il éprouve pour elle. Et maintenant qu’il venait de trouver le bon stratagème pour la voir le moins possible jusqu’à la fin du lycée, sa mère la lui met dans les pattes pour les trois prochaines semaines. Impossible, il n’arrivera jamais à se tenir.
Nous avions quitté Willa et Finn en octobre, et nous les retrouvons en janvier. Autant vous dire que beaucoup de choses se sont passées, mais pour les connaitre, il faut lire les autres romans de la série. Toujours est-il que Finn et Willa ne sont pas devenus amis, malheureusement. Pire, Willa se méprend totalement sur les intentions de Finn.
Willa sait qu’elle ne peut pas avoir confiance en Finn, elle voit clair dans son jeu et sait très bien qu’il ne se livre pas avec les autres. Elle refuse son amitié tant qu’il ne se livre pas à cœur ouvert. Pourtant, elle aimerait vraiment avoir une bonne relation avec son futur demi-frère, elle aimerait plus, mais Willa est pragmatique et sait que cela ne mènerait à rien de bon. De plus, après le lycée, tout le monde prendra des chemins différents et ira à l’université dans d’autres États, c’est pour ça qu’elle refuse d’écouter son cœur et préfère être avec une personne qu’elle apprécie peu, comme Damien.
Finn lui, vit un véritable combat. Après avoir accepté le marché avec sa mère, il sait qu’il ne pourra jamais essayer quoique ce soit avec Willa, car si jamais elle venait à apprendre ce qu’il a fait, elle ne lui pardonnerait jamais et cela le briserait. Mais au plus il passe du temps avec elle, au moins il a envie de la laisser partir. Il est tiraillé entre ses envies et sa raison, mais n’est-il pas inconvenant de tomber amoureux de sa demi-sœur ?
J’ai ADORÉ ce livre. J’aime beaucoup les personnages et ça a été un véritable plaisir de les retrouver et de les suivre durant les préparatifs du mariage. L’auteure écrit avec une véritable aisance et sait mettre le lecteur en haleine, tout en apportant une véritable satisfaction à la fin. D’ailleurs, la première question en finissant le livre a été de savoir s’il allait avoir un troisième tome. Normalement, chaque histoire pour tous les couples est composée en trois tomes, or, celui-ci pourrait peut-être faire exception et se conclure avec deux tomes, ce qui serait vraiment frustrant, car c’est mon histoire favorite. Je ne peux que vous recommander la série Creative HeArts qui est un vrai régal....more

Jusqu’à présent, je n’ai jamais été déçu par ses romans, je dirais même que la qualité du contenu et les émotions transmises ne font qu’augmenter au fil du temps. Fake Fiancée n’est pas une banale romance sportive, il y a certes de l’amour et du sport, avec toute l’action qui va avec, mais ça ne s’arrête pas là, au contraire. Il y a de la remise en question, des difficultés à surmonter, des problèmes de confiance et surtout un amour qui pourrait presque paraître impossible.
Sunny semble bien porté son nom, c’est une jeune femme solaire qui a un but dans sa vie et qui est très proche de ceux qu’elle aime, enfin sauf son père, mais cela est dû à leur passé plus que tendu. Elle a fuit de chez elle lorsqu’elle avait 16 ans, en venant même à se faire passer pour morte afin de pouvoir être libre. Elle profite donc de la vie à pleine dent, jusqu’à ce que son copain la trompe et rompe sa confiance en la gente masculine. En plus de cela, elle est payé par son canon de voisin pour se faire passer pour sa copine, tout en éviter de s’abandonner à son attirance pour lui et surtout en tomber amoureuse. Sunny est en réalité une jeune femme passionnée qui ne cesse de se brider, elle a trop peur de souffrir au final. Mais sa relation avec Max va la libérer en partie, que ce soit relationnellement, émotionnellement et sexuellement.
Max Kent est le beau gosse par excellence du campus, il a presque coucher avec toutes les filles qui y sont présentes. Pourtant, il a eu une relation sérieuse qui s’est mal fini : lui le coeur brisé et sa copine révélant qu’elle était une véritable salope. Cela lui a coûtait un titre sportif qui était à porter de main, mais aussi l’ambiance dans le vestiaire, sans parler de la confiance de son coach. C’est un sanguin, passionné dans l’âme qui se donne à fond dans tout ce qu’il fait. Pourtant, il y a une fragilité chez lui, il manque parfois de confiance en soit, il complexe vis-à-vis de son père et son attraction pour Sunny lui pose bien des problèmes. Il s’évertue à la tenir à distance alors qu’il réagit avec elle comme si elle était sa petite copine pour de vrai.
Leur relation est pour le coup vraiment compliqué. Ce n’est pas seulement le fait que Max paye Sunny pour cette mascarade, mais ils ont tous deux eu des relations précédentes qui se sont mal finies. Ils se cachent bien des choses, tout en répétant que rien ne pourra jamais être sérieux entre eux. Pourtant on voit rapidement que ce n’est pas le cas, leurs réactions sont clairement celles de personnes qui sont en train de tomber amoureuse envers une personne qu’il apprécie et respecte. Ils se lancent du coup dans une relation fausse qui se transforme en amitié puis en relation sexuelle sans attache. Dès la première seconde, on sait qu’ils sont fait l’un pour l’autre et les scènes érotiques qu’ils partagent en sont un bon exemple. De plus, ils ont un lien passé commun qui est passé sous silence mais que l’on devine.
En plus de la relation bien compliquée, j’ai apprécié que l’auteure mette bien en avant les difficultés des relations familiales. Toutes les familles ne sont pas soudées, certaines ont des problèmes assez grave dû au décès d’un membre de la famille ou de l’infidélité. Les conséquences peuvent être vraiment grave comme la maltraitance ou l’ignorance de l’enfant. Ceux sont des thèmes vraiment difficiles bien décrit et qui au final trouve une échappatoire inattendue, une chance au bonheur. Heureusement qu’il y a beaucoup d’humour et le football US pour servir de soupape. Le sport n’est d’ailleurs pas qu’un prétexte, tout est bien utilisé, en partant des entraînements, aux matchs, sans oublier la pression sur les étudiants et les prix sportifs qui sont important dans une carrière.
Ilsa arrive toujours à m’étonner avec sa famille d’attaquer de nouveaux genres qui touche à la romance, tout en mettant en avant des problèmes de la société. Elle arrive à nous toucher et déballer des choses sombres et poignantes, mais toujours avec une volonté d’en sortir plus fort et avec une optique d’avenir heureux. Fake Fiancée était chaud, drôle et touchant à la fois, une histoire qui m’a transporté de la première à la dernière ligne et qui me donne envie d’en savoir encore plus. En plus, j’ai totalement craqué pour Preston, un homme brisé qui a bien du mal à se donner une seconde chance. Emma était d’ailleurs tout aussi touchante et attachante à sa façon, le ying de son yang, un partenariat des plus évident. Trigger est un premier tome haletant et incroyable d’une série de romantic suspens à suivre à tout prix !
Preston Hale est un assassin depuis le jour où il est venu en aide à une fille sur son campus, il a tué son violeur sans réellement le vouloir. Cela a déclencher une décision qui lui trottait à l’esprit depuis un moment, suivre le chemin de son père et rejoindre Circle of Justice, un groupe paramilitaire qui assassine des hommes qui ne peuvent être jugé par le gouvernement malgré leur culpabilité. Bien que cette profession soit une évidence pour lui, elle remplit un besoin en lui, cela le détruit en même temps et il ne semble pas s’en rendre compte. Preston est un homme détruit depuis l’assassinat de sa mère et sa sœur, il a essayé de se reconstruire grâce à la musique mais cela n’aura pas duré longtemps. J’ai apprécié de suivre cet homme complexe qui souffre en silence et qui le nie, pourtant l’apparition d’Emma va lui donner une lueur d’espoir pour l’avenir et surtout le pousser à se remettre en question. Avec elle, il devient le véritable Preston, l’homme tendre, généreux, protecteur et passionné, mais qui refuse de se pardonner et se donner une chance pour un avenir heureux avec la femme qu’il aime et dans ce qui lui plait réellement : la musique.
Emma a connu Preston à l’université, ils étaient des amis proches et faisaient partis du même groupe. Si Preston n’avait pas disparu, ils auraient probablement percés dans le milieu, mais ils auraient surtout finis ensemble, un couple heureux avec un avenir radieux. Mais il a disparu, Emma a mis fin à ses rêves musicaux et surtout elle a en queqlue sortes fermés son cœur aux hommes. Elle a beau avoir des amis géniaux, des parents compréhensif et un patron incroyable pour un job d’enfer, il y a un certain vide chez elle. Elle est loin d’être aussi complexe que Preston, mais elle a aussi du travail à faire sur ce qu’elle veut réellement. D’ailleurs, je l’ai trouvé exemplaire avec sa tolérance et compréhension envers le véritable Preston. C’est une jeune femme forte et courageuse qui n’a pas peur de se salir les mains pour ceux qu’elle aime.
Bien qu’ils aient un passé commun qui auraient pu donné quelque chose de fabuleux, il y a beaucoup de secrets et de non dits entre eux qui va compliquer les choses. Leur romance est à la douce et amer, baignée dans le doute et la violence. Ils sont tout deux dans l’incompréhension, incapable de s’abandonner à leur désir à cause de leur passé commun. Puis les choses vont s’accélérer et leur couple va se renforcer dès qu’ils seront sincères l’un envers l’autre. C’est quelque part un amour assez pur, une volonté de protéger l’autre et de lui permettre d’évoluer. Il y a certes des moments érotiques, mais assez ponctuels pour ne pas prendre le dessus sur le principal : l’émotionnel et l’idée de seconde chance.
Et même si la romance est importante, ce n’est pas la seule chose qui nous importante. Il y a l’intrigue principale pleine de suspens et d’action qui nous entraîne dès le début. On enquête en même que le couple sur la recherche du tueur qui sévit et surtout sur la vérité qui se cache sous le double meurtre qui avait touché la famille de Preston des années auparavant. Tout est lié, tout à un sens. Raison pour laquelle l’aide du Circle of Justice est essentielle et pourquoi Preston doit absolument rester dans le droit chemin.
L.P. Dover m’a totalement convaincu avec Trigger. C’était ma première lecture d’elle, mais j’ai adoré à la fois son histoire et son style. Elle mélange à la fois les ténèbres et la lumière. Il y a du mouvement continu, des interrogations à foison et une touche d’humour bienvenue. De plus, les personnages secondaires ont leur importance, chacun à un rôle à jouer et on sait très bien que tous les fils de Glenn (le patron d’Emma et Preston) auront droit à leurs livres aussi. En fait, je plains Eli (qui m’a fallu un peu de temps pour réaliser qu’il s’agit d’un mec). Il a du mal avec son boulot et ça empire avec son patron qui ne pense qu’au sexe. Non, non, pas le sexe mais on n’en est pas loin non plus. Alors Eli c’est celui qui subit à vrai dire. Il n’a rien demandé à personne et pourtant il se retrouve dans un beau merdier. Les personnages qui le secondent ne sont pas en reste : l’ex-petite amie du méchant, Meri, est une sorcière sympa MAIS avec un brin de folie qui est presque flippant. La fliquette Jackie est sympa, d’ailleurs c’est la seule qui a la tête sur les épaules. Après, tout ce beau petit monde rencontre pas mal de créatures comme le Frankenstein, une vampire, un maitre vaudou, une fée, un troll etc… Et tout ce petit monde est le résultat d’un merdier créer par un mec qui rage que sa copine, Meri la sorcière, l’ai plaqué.
Mon dieu… où va le monde ? Ben, droit vers le mur. Maxwell, qui est le méchant de l’histoire, enfin… méchant… c’est vite dit hein, est un incompris de la vie. Ce mec à beau parler mais personne ne prend en compte ses revendications. Normal qu’il passe pas la violence. Et pour vous dire à quel point ce mec est ignoré et pas pris au sérieux : Eli lui a fait un strip-teaser sur un fond musical (et ce n’était pas pour le distraire) et Meri parle à une Jakie comme si de rien n’était alors qu’il menace tout un QG.
Bref, RSDS est sympa à lire, mais le soucis c’est qu’il y a pas mal de sigles… quoique non, les sigle sont là pour raccourcir les noms à rallonge. Dans son histoire, David a modifié le cours de l’histoire, ce que nous prenons comme acquis, ben ne l’est pas. Mais c’est marrant à suivre car ça résume parfaitement les théories farfelues qu’on entend parler. En tout cas, j’ai passé un excellent moment avec ce roman. J’ai rit de la bêtise de chacun et j’ai vraiment apprécié chaque protagoniste....more

Par contre, ne vous fiez pas au titre ou au résumé, ils sont assez trompeur bien que ce soit en quelques sortes l’excuse qui les pousse ensemble.
Ash est un homme d’affaire accomplit qui pourtant est silencieux, solitaire et dont le cœur est glacé. Tout du moins, c’est le cas jusqu’à ce qu’il pose ses yeux sur son Ange, une belle et douce jeune femme qui passe tous les jours devant son bureau. Elle a 15 ans de moins que lui, elle est l’innocence et la pureté même, mais elle est ce qui le pousse à se lever le matin et surtout lui donne envie de devenir un meilleur homme. C’est un mâle alpha typique, très intense, protecteur et possessif, mais avec une fragilité et une sensibilité bienvenues que ne réveillent que la femme de sa vie.
Jasmine est en dernière année de lycée et âgée de 18 ans, elle ne pense qu’à une seule chose : partir loin de chez elle. Son père est une ordure qui n’en a rien à faire d’elle et la maltraite émotionnellement, un de ses professeurs porte une attention déplacée sur elle et elle n’a aucun ami. Elle cherche la liberté et le bonheur sous n’importe quelle forme possible, c’est pourquoi elle accepte la proposition étrange d’Ash : aller vivre chez lui en échange du remboursement des dettes de son père. Jasmine est une jeune femme complexée physiquement, mais aussi émotionnellement, pourtant sa rencontre avec Ash va totalement la révéler.
Bien qu’on ait une idée de romance assez simple avec le coup de foudre d’Ash pour une jeune femme bien plus jeune que lui, j’ai trouvé que l’accent était surtout mis sur le côté érotique de leur relation. On enchaine les scènes sensuelles avec l’éveil sexuel de Jasmine. L’acte sexuel est au final ce qui va créer une relation entre eux qui est étrangement stable et qui a un bel avenir. Après, il y a tout de même des sentiments des deux côtés, plus construit chez lui que chez elle, mais en aussi peu de temps c’est compréhensible.
C’est bien entendu du pur Alexa Riley avec un coup de foudre qui va tout changer, un homme obsédé par une jeune fille pure qui est en quelques sortes sa rédemption. C’est simple, fluide et ça va droit au but, quitte à brûler quelques étapes. Les problèmes familiaux sont une fois de plus un thème utilisé par les auteures, tout comme la différence d’âge. Par contre, j’ai trouvé assez dommage qu’il y ait une fixation sur cette différence d’âge, rendant parfois le lecteur mal à l’aise alors qu’il n’y rien de dérangeant dans le fond, c’est juste le choix de certains mots ou aprioris qui forcent cela. C’était un véritable enfer et il a tout perdu en une soirée. Son travail, le respect des siens, sa confiance en soit et son corps en garde des séquelles, sans oublier les cauchemars récurrents qui l’empêche de dormir. Il a un nouvel emploi qu’il aime, une fille adoptive adorable, mais une ombre plane dans son esprit et son cœur. C’est un homme torturé très intense qui a du mal à se pardonner ses erreurs, il reste enfermé dans son esprit et a du mal à accepter les critiques et de lâcher prise. J’ai vraiment adoré Jude, aussi bien l’implacable garde du corps que le petit ami alpha très dominateur.
Rhion est l’autre côté de la pièce qu’est Jude. Elle est son Papillon, la jeune femme brûlée qu’il n’a pu aider. Des années se sont écoulées, elle a acceptée ses cicatrices et les a même sublimées, mais elle reste recluse pour d’autres raisons. C’est une jeune femme qui est assez épanouie sur certains points, mais totalement renfermée pour d’autres. Elle est tout aussi torturée et complexe que Jude, ils ont beaucoup en commun et elle s’en rendra compte bien plus vite que lui. Elle a un humour tordu que j’adore tout particulièrement et son métier d’auteure permet de glisser quelques petites blagues et références sur des auteures que nous connaissons toutes. Il parait d’ailleurs qu’il faut demander à J.R. Ward pourquoi il y a un h dans son prénom xD C’est une grande romantique qui a du mal à faire face à la réalité, tout comme à s’ouvrir aux autres, ce qui finira par lui jouer des tours.
Pour le coup, la romance entre ces deux-là est vraiment compliquée et va se développer en plusieurs étapes, avec des rechutes et des obstacles très difficiles à surmonter. Ils sont avant tout liés par un traumatisme commun, un évènement qui a changé leurs vies à jamais. Ils ont certes des cicatrices physiques, mais les émotionnels sont bien plus profondes et surtout encore à vif. Ils vont se guérir mutuellement, non sans mal, et leur permettre à tout deux d’ouvrir les yeux sur eux-mêmes. L’attraction a beau être immédiatement, il y a trop de choses non dites entre eux pour qu’ils puissent profiter d’une relation purement physique, ce n’est pas du tout possible quand on sait ce qui les lie. Mais on ne peut nier que leurs ébats sont tout aussi brûlant que le moment qui les réunit pour la première fois. Pour ce qui est de l’érotisme et de la sensualité, on est très bien servis et cela a bien entendu un impact sur l’avancée de leur relation.
En dehors des soucis qu’ils ont tous deux à régler, que ce soit entre eux ou personnellement, il y a tout de même une intrigue externe, la raison pour laquelle Rhion est incapable de sortir de chez elle sans faire une crise d’angoisse. C’est aussi la raison pour laquelle elle a embauché Guardian Protection et pourquoi elle est aussi proche de ses membres. Ils sont d’ailleurs bien nombreux dans l’entreprise, presque tous des hommes magnifiques et célibataires, ce qui promet des tomes à venir tout simplement épiques ! Certains se démarquent bien plus que les autres, c’est surtout le cas d’Aidan Johnson, le taciturne aux tendances sociopathes qui nous étonne au fil des pages. Il y a le charismatique Devon qui est vraiment sympathique, le beau Alex qui semble avoir trouver chaussure à son pied et Leo, le patron de la boîte, qui est une figure paternelle pour tout le monde.
Le style d’Aly Martinez est toujours aussi magnifique avec des moments poignants qui succèdent à des instants de poésie ou de violences intenses. Son histoire est addictive avec tout ces différents personnages auxquels on s’attache, mais surtout elle arrive à nous surprendre continuellement, que ce soit avec des révélations sur certaines personnes ou bien avec des retournements de situation totalement inattendus. Vivement la suite puisque deux autres tomes ont été annoncés et que l’épilogue de Singe nous permet d’avoir une petite idée sur les heureux élus....more

Cela a encore moins coller que la fois précédente où il y avait au moins de l’humour pour faire passer la dragée. Je n’ai pas accroché aux personnage, l’histoire est sans grand réel intérêt et bien qu’une suite a été annoncée, je ne vois pas trop pourquoi.
Cassie est une étudiante tout ce qu’il y a de plus normale avec des amis proches et des études contraignantes, mais elle est connue sur le campus comme la frigide à cause des ragots colportés par son ex. Ces rumeurs ne sont pas sans fondements puisqu’elle n’a jamais eu d’orgasmes, même auto-administré. Elle complexe du coup sur « ce manque » et décide qu’elle n’aime pas le sexe. Même si c’est une question importante, elle tourne trop autour d’elle et de façon négative, tout en étant égoïste et passive dans la résolution du problème. Autant le dire clairement, j’ai détesté Cassie.
Will est un camarade de classe de Cassie et ils deviennent rapidement de bons amis, avec une attirance physique saine entre eux. Mais tout change le soir de la fête d’Halloween et après les révélations de Cassie. Will décide de tenter le coup et céder au désir en relevant le désir de lui donner un orgasme et cela en essayant tout au moins une fois. Will est bien plus approfondit et intéressant que Cassie, il a beau avoir des défauts lui aussi, il est au moins attachant avec sa façon de tout prendre en main et parfois être trop collant.
Bien qu’on reconnaisse bien les codes de la romance New Adult avec une première relation vraiment importante dans leurs vies mutuelles et surtout le passage à la vie adulte en quelques sortes, je trouve que la nouvelle tient plus de l’érotisme que de la romance. C’est un enchaînement de scènes érotiques plus ou moins chaudes et osées, avec un but précis tout de même. Will a beau donner une opportunité à ce que ça devienne réellement une romance, Cassie bloque les choses une fois de plus (à mes yeux) en ne restant qu’au niveau sexuel. Personnellement, je pense que cette fille a surtout un énorme problème émotionnel et relationnel, plus que sexuel en tout cas.
Le style de Nikky Kaye ne me convainc toujours pas et surtout que cette fois-ci il manque l’humour nécessaire et bien placé pour rendre les choses plus agréables. Je ne remet pas en question l’intrigue, mais surtout les personnages et leurs interactions qui m’auront gênés jusqu’au bout. Je vois plein de bonnes idées mais qui ne sont pas amenées à conclusion, ce qui est assez dommage. Cassie est un peu comme le vilain petit canard de sa famille (bien que ce ne soit avant tout dans sa tête) et tout le contraire de ses sœurs aînées. Elle aime passer son temps dans la boue, ses sœurs au country club à siroter des mimosas en Ralph Lauren. Mais elle a trouvé la solution pour donner le change : raconter des histoires salaces sur des relations sexuelles totalement débridées qu’elle eu. Seul hic dans tout cela : ceux sont des inventions. Alors qu’elle essaye de rectifier le tir, son ordi freeze sur sa sexliste des histoires inventées et rencontre un réparateur ultra-canon qui semble s’y intéressé. Bien entendu Cassie craque pour lui et elle est bien loin d’être une fille facile, au contraire ! Elle a une répartie du tonnerre, elle sait ce qu’elle veut et elle est bien plus libérée que ce qu’on pourrait croire.
Ce qui est loin de laisser insensible le beau Simon, qui est le réparateur informatique en question. Ou tout du moins, c’est ce qu’il laisse croire à Cassie, car en réalité il est le propriétaire ultra-blindé de la chaîne de magasin. On comprend assez rapidement pourquoi il cache sa véritable identité et d’où vient son manque de confiance envers les femmes, mais on sent très bien que cette erreur tactique va lui coûter cher à un moment ou un autre. Du coup, ça ne le gêne pas du tout de servir de boy toy à la jeune femme. Il est tout aussi drôle et dévoué à la cause qu’elle. Ils ont d’ailleurs beaucoup de choses en commun, en dehors de leur attraction physique indéniable.
Le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est que cette romance est assez atypique et que leur romance est loin des codes habituels du genre. Mais c’est ce qui rend l’histoire que meilleure et plus savoureuse ! On se retrouve avec une rencontre originale et gênante qui aboutie sur un partenariat bien huilé avec un but bien précis : réaliser toutes les choses inscrites dans l’infâme sexliste. Du coup, on sait très bien que les choses seront avant tout sexuelles et physiques, pour ça on en prend de l’érotisme (qui est d’ailleurs bien maitrisé). Mais peu à peu, les sentiments s’invitent et se développent donnant naissance à une relation complexe et intéressante. Même si j’avoue que certains choix du couple n’étaient pas forcément les plus judicieux.
Tawna Fenske m’a étonné avec son style, simple et frais à la fois, mais surtout par son humour ultra-présent. Elle arrive à nous faire à tout moment, même avec des choses qui pourraient être gênantes. Elle a totalement géré son histoire du début à la fois, nous surprenons tout de même de temps à autre et surtout en nous frustrant pour la fin (dans le bon sens), en ne dévoilant pas totalement sur qui sera le second tome de la série. Deux personnages importants jusqu’à présent mais qui avaient gardé leur part de mystère. Mais que cela ne tienne, When She’s Mine est là et on a enfin les réponses à toutes nos questions !
Allister, tout comme son meilleur ami, est clairement différent des autres hommes puisqu’il a décidé de rester vierge jusqu’au jour il trouvera l’élue. C’est digne d’un comble puisqu’il est le patron de boîtes de striptease, mais soit ! Du coup, lorsqu’il pose ses yeux sur Leah, il sait que l’attente est finie, qu’il est temps de rattraper le temps perdu et de profiter de ses dons naturels pour le sexe. Sans blaguer, (bien que tout ce que je vienne de dire est vrai) Allister est un homme complexe qui m’intrigue depuis le début. Il est très intense et loyal au point de se sacrifier pour ceux qu’il aime, pile poil ce qu’il faut pour la belle et douce Leah.
Leah est la soeur de May qui était présente dans l’accident de voiture qui a coûté la vie de leurs parents des années plus tôt. Résultat, ses jambes ont été brisées et elle ne peut pas marcher sans le matériel adéquate, quand elle n’est pas obligée d’être en siège roulant. Elle a énormément de complexe de ce point de vue et son attachement à sa petite sœur rend difficile toute relation avec un homme, mais cela est loin d’arrêter son sauveur, le très sexy Allister. Peu à peu elle va s’ouvrir à l’homme, se dévoiler être légère et une véritable chatte en chaleur lorsqu’il s’agit de son homme. Et quand au niveau sexuel, c’est la découverte des deux côtés, une découverte qui a des conséquences assez intéressantes il faut l’avouer. Malgré tout, on sent bien qu’Allister est sérieux et que Leah fait de son mieux afin de vivre sa vie au grand jour. Et c’est là bien entendu que l’auteure nous sort des trucs un peu tordus dans l’intrigue (qu’on voit venir pour certains d’entre eux) et qui pimentent cette histoire d’amour qui serait toute simple sans cela.
Pour ce qui est de la rapidité et du caractère des personnages, c’est du Dani Wyatt à 100%, on reconnait sa patte. Pourtant j’ai apprécié le fait qu’elle ait pris en compte les remarques qui lui avaient été faite pour le premier tome de la série et du coup on se retrouve avec quelque chose d’une meilleure qualité et surtout plus logique. Aria Cole l’a fait à sa sauce et j’avouerai que l’aventure délurée de Bryn et Brodie m’aurait beaucoup fait sourire.
Bryn est un peu le vilain petit canard de sa famille, celle qui s’intéresse plus à son job qu’aux sacs à main dernier cri et surtout elle n’a pas le temps ou la force de se trouver un homme. Du coup, lorsqu’elle voit la pub d’Elite Fling, elle pense avoir trouvé la solution au problème du mariage à venir de sa sœur. Il est assez amusant de la voir avoir recours à un escorte pour le mariage alors que ce n’est pas du tout son style, tout comme les talons brillants qu’elle porte. Elle est vraiment amusante avec une bonne dose de mauvaise fille en elle qui avait besoin du bon homme pour se réveiller.
Brodie est justement la personne qu’il lui fallait. Alors qu’il se fait passer pour son rendez-vous et un escorte, il est en réalité un réparateur informatique et le frère du patron d’Elite Fling. Il a eu le coup de foudre pour Bryn et il est impossible pour lui de laisser passer sa chance, quitte à devoir mentir afin qu’ils aient la chance de se rencontrer et construire quelque chose de fabuleux. Tout comme Bryn, il est un geek dans l’âme qui s’en fout de l’argent et l’apparence alors qu’il a les deux de son côté. Il est possessif, tendre et passionné, l’homme idéal pour Bryn.
Même si leur relation ne part pas sur les meilleures bases du monde puisque d’un côté Bryn a payé pour son temps avec elle et lui de l’autre côté lui a mentit sur son identité. Pourtant ils arrivent à surpasser cela grâce notamment à une attraction physique puissante et un coup de foudre mutuel. Comme on le dit si bien l’amour conquiert tout. Mais dans leur cas c’est surtout la compatibilité sexuelle qui joue un énorme rôle.
Après avoir été déçue par ma dernière lecture de l’auteure, j’attendais avec impatience sa prochaine romance et Valentine for Hire a tapé au bon endroit ! Idéal pour la période pré-St Valentin, c’est un excellent condensé sexy et à mourir de rire à savourer sans aucun soucis, même si les choses se déroulent très rapidement, comme toujours avec auteure. Avant de lire Aisuru, je ne pensais pas que l’auteure était capable de me captiver autant que Deviations, et pourtant, même si j’ai une nette préférence pour Deviations, Aisuru est une magnifique ode à la vie.
Sakura fête aujourd’hui ses dix-huit ans, mais elle n’en est pas heureuse pour autant. Dix-huit ans signifie pour elle qu’elle peut enfin faire valider son testament. Car depuis plus de huit ans, Sakura sait qu’elle ne verra jamais son dix-neuvième anniversaire. Son cœur est trop petit et trop fragile pour lui permettre de continuer à vivre. Mais cela ne l’atteint plus, bien au contraire, une fois morte, elle pourra retrouver Hiro Ito, son tuteur qui l’a élevé à la mort de ses parents et qui est mort trois ans plus tôt. La mort semble être omniprésente dans la vie de cette jeune femme, elle n’a donc aucune peur de mourir. Kazuki est le prince héritier de son royaume, mais ne désire pas accéder au trône. Suite à une terrible confrontation avec son frère, il s’enfuit vers le seul endroit où il se sera en sécurité : dans la maison de son ami humain, Hiro. Et c’est comme ça que Sakura découvre Kazuki, un Yokai, blessé dans son jardin. Après avoir repris des forces, Kazuki demande de séjourner quelques jours chez Sakura qui accepte. Kazuki pense que Hiro l’a envoyé ici pour prendre soin de la jeune femme. Et au plus ils passent du temps ensemble, au moins Kazuki ne veut partir, et quand il apprend que Sakura n’a que quelques mois à vivre, il décide de rester avec elle jusqu’à la fin.
Le récit est moins addictif que Deviations, pourtant, il y a une touche de poésie et de beauté malgré la tragédie. Sakura s’est exclue de toute vie sociale depuis qu’elle a frôlé la mort et qu’elle a appris qu’elle ne vivrait pas longtemps. Les seules personnes qu’elle laisse s’approcher ont toujours été Hiro, qui est décédé, et son médecin. Pourtant, l’arrivée de Kazuki va tout faire basculer, il va sans le savoir, lui redonner le gout de vivre et de désirer vivre demain, il va lui redonner le sourire et le plaisir de se faire des amis.
Avec ce récit, l’auteure pose une question aux lecteurs : doit-on arrêter de vivre quand on apprend que notre mort est imminente ? Parce que la mort est bien ici, et réapprendre à vivre ne fait qu’augmenter la peur de mourir. Le roman est plutôt lent, l’auteure fait entrer petit à petit les personnages, à tel point que le récit pouvait être pénible. Mais la finalité est magnifique et donne une pleine satisfaction aux lecteurs....more

Vous plongez directement dans le bain avec un rappel habituel des personnages et des lieux, mais ce qui est génial ici, c’est qu’on a les commentaires des réalisateurs et des acteurs. On a des idées de comment ont pu naitre les animaux, comment Eddie Redmayne a dû se comporter pour donner plus de réalisme lors des scènes avec les animaux, comment les vêtements ont été imaginés (pour ceux qui sont tenté par le cosplay, il y a quelques (pas beaucoup malheureusement) croquis des tenues réfléchi pour les films. D'ailleurs, c’est prévu que j’en fasse l’un d’eux =) ), pourquoi certains éléments sont présent et d’autre non, comment ils ont imaginer certaines scènes, et surtout les quelques anecdotes.
Bref, ce livre regorge de plein de truc à coller, à jouer, à tourner, à déplier, à porter (ouais les masques de Mangemorts sont juste géniaux, oui oui j’ai fait des photos avec lol). En tout cas, ce livre sera mon trésor car il parle aussi bien des Animaux Fantastiques que de la saga Harry Potter en elle-même. Ce gros concentré d’humour, de romance et de sexy vaut clairement le détour et cela n’a pas raté avec moi puisque ça a été un coup de cœur. Que ce soit Lizzie ou Jake, j’ai totalement accroché aux deux protagonistes, à leurs prises de bec constante et à leurs réconciliations bien chaudes.
Lizzie est conservatrice dans le très réputé Metropolitan Museum de New York et c’est enfin son heure de gloire, c’est à elle d’organiser une exposition temporaire. Elle va choisir alors sa grande passion : la romance dans l’âge d’or de Hollywood. Si seulement sa vie personnelle était identique à ce monde de rêve, tout sera au top, mais c’est très loin d’être le cas. Après une nuit trop arrosée, elle balance ses quatre vérités sur la gente masculine sur internet (par inadvertance) et déclare la grève du sexe. Bien entendu cela déchaine les passions et les hommes tente de relever le défi.
J’ai adoré voir Lizzie se débattre dans une chaîne de rendez-vous organisé sur Tinder qui sont tous plus horribles que les précédents. Certains pourraient dire qu’elle a trop d’attente, qu’elle est dans un monde imaginaire, à la recherche d’une licorne. Mais je ne pense pas que vouloir trouvé l’homme de sa vie qui l’aime pour qui elle et qui est un temps soit peu tendre et romantique soit trop demandé ! Elle est peut-être née 50 ans trop tard, mais je la trouve quelque part totalement d’actualité avec ses choix et ses rêves. Elle est bien drôle aussi, surtout dans ses joutes verbales avec le beau Jake et son point de vue acéré sur les hommes qui tentent de la séduire.
Jake a tout du bellâtre qui ne croit plus en l’amour après s’être brulé les aimes. Il enchaine les conquêtes jusqu’à sa rencontre avec Lizzie qui va tout changer. Ils ont beau toujours se disputer (ou bien s’embrasser, au choix), Jake se révèle être un adversaire de point pour la jeune femme. Avec son allure de dandy, il a les mêmes références culturelles qu’elle et en a fait son travail aussi, en dégotant l’impossible. On découvre d’ailleurs assez rapidement que son apparence peut être trompeuse car derrière ses croyances amères sur le véritable amour et la romance se cache un homme tendre et attentif.
Bien entendu, cette histoire ne commence pas de la meilleure des façons avec des philosophies opposées. Pourtant, on va voir qu’ils ont un passé commun assez amusant qui est la véritable raison devant la retenu de Lizzie face au charme de Jake. Leur attraction physique est plus qu’évidente, mais entre des divergences, un passé difficile et une grève qui fait la une des médias, tout se ligue contre eux. Mais cela n’empêche pas qu’ils tentent plusieurs fois de mettre l’affaire dans le sac et l’érotisme est alors à son paroxysme. Mais attention, bien que le sexe soit au centre de l’intrigue avec le problème sur la romance, ceux sont avant tout les émotions et sentiments des personnages qui sont développés.
En tout cas, cela faisait bien longtemps que je n’avais pas autant pleuré de rire en lisant une comédie romantique. Lila Monroe m’a envoûté et je peux vous dire que je veux absolument lire son autre livre qui se passe avec Nate et Julia que l’on croise rapidement. Son style est simple et léger, une bonne dose de sarcasme et de rêve avec une tonne de références actuelles et surtout cinématographiques pour toute bonne romantique qui se respecte ! Bref c’est un livre que je vous recommande chaudement, qui vous fera sourire et rêver au grand amour !...more
