I have never really taken aliens seariously, so it took me a long time to take this seriously. It was a great short story, about twenty pages long, and pretty entertaining, though the ending was a little expected for me because I have read so much science fictoin nad fantasy. Reccomend to readers who want a short short short story....more

It had a great story, but I got a little bored in the middle. I'm usually a big fan of the mysterious ending where you don't really know what happened, but this just didnt fit into the book. It was like a Twilight Zone episode, except it wasn't really that good. However the writing was great and the author somehow managed me to read more, so for that I'll give it three stars....more

I got it yesterday and finished it last night at about midnight. Gosh, the ending was SO suspensful. Birth of a Killer is the first of four book in a prequel series to the awesome Cirque Du Freak. And it's all about Larten Crepsley. Many centuries ago, he worked as a child laborer with a dozen or so of his brothers and sisters. But his best friend was his orphan cousin, Vur Horston. After Vur does something wrong in the factory they work at, the boss kills him as an example of what not to do. Larten then picks up a knife and kills the boss. Scared of what will happen next, he flees the city and finds an old graveyard to spend the night in. There, he finds Seba Nile, who is a vampire. And offers Larten to become his assistaint. When he accepts, he has no idea what he is in for. I LOVED this book. It brought back some of my favorite characters from Cirque Du Freak, like Vancha, Paris, Evanna (just mentions her), Seba and Mr. Tall. It also brought back some of my least favorite characters, like Mr. Tiny and Murlough. The addition of Wester (I think thats his name) to the book made it interesting. He is probably my favorite character now. I also liked how the Cirque Du Freak itself was actually included in the book. I am interested to find out more of Lartens story, such as how he got the scar, how he found Madame Octa, and how he met Arra Sails. The next in the series, Ocean of Blood does not come out until April :( I guess that's my punishment for finishing this in a day. No, it was worth it. The cliffhanger ending will leave readers on the edge of their seat, hungry for more just like I am....more

Almost anything she'll tell you is a lie. When Micahs boyfriend dies, everybody suspects her. Everybody shuns Micah, Micahs boyfriends other girlfriend Sarah, and Micah's boyfriends best friend. They easily become friends. Just when you start to get a little bored, Micah admits her biggest secret ever. Now, I cant tell you in my review because it would be a HUGE spoiler. I couldnt put it down (well I was reading it during the Taks so I didnt really have a choice). You never know if Micah is telling the truth or lying. It had me guessing until the very last page. Even when I finished, I thought about it for about ten minutes. I still dont know whether or not her big secret was a lie or the truth, or wether or not anything she said was the truth. I didnt even know which genre it was- I put down mystery and fantasy. Larbalestier write with tons of emotional power- I felt bad for Micah because of her loss, yet at the same time was mad because of some of the lies she wrote down. I picked it up because of Mrs Millers recommendation and because I love Justines husbands (Scott Westerfeld) books. I really want to read How To Ditch Your Fairy (Justines other book), and I hope it will be as awesome as this. ...more
