This is the story of Avery, who was adopted after years of abuse and her men who are also battered but not broken. This is a New Adult Romance that takes place mostly at a college. But it’s so much more. And it is a menage/rh romance. Normally, menage and rh, they’re not my thing but holy smokes is this book good. And intense. The love story includes Avery and each of her four men (with some MMF scenes that are off the chain). The book is dark, but each of the men provides a light. Each man has his demons, and each helps Avery soothe hers. But at the heart of it, this is the story of Avery and Wyatt, adopted siblings who are equally drawn to and repelled by each other. There’s no getting past the fact that Wyatt is a twisted bully. But he shows signs of being redeemable, which will have to happen in the future books, if it happens at all. There is an insane plot twist that would be a total spoiler, so all I will say is my mind was completely blown. I loved this story and I have got to get my hands on the next one and oh my gosh, you have got to read this book. Triggers galore, so read the content warning at the beginning. ...more

Tropes- Age Gap, Abused Heroine, Forced Proximity, Surprise Pregnancy, Secret Child (but it’s complicated), Intense Journaling, Cowboy, Childbed Marriage Mewsings What I liked- Wow, this book was a lot, but it was so good. I liked watching Everleigh overcome her fears. I liked the love story. I liked the surprise pregnancy. The characters all have depth and are very well written. And I just couldn’t put the book down. Granted, the triggers were heavy and plentiful, but they were not gratuitous and actually made this a better book.

They join forces with another club, a former enemy, with a truce. And both clubs maintain their own identity. I love that. I liked both Tank and Boiler and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop into a deep and passionate bond. The zexytime heat was off the charts! Tank and Boiler had more than that in common; they both had difficult pasts. They were able to be vulnerable with each other, and that was what made their relationship really special.

It’s not an easy read because the heroine, Lucy is married and the victim of horrific domestic violence/abuse while the hero, Preacher has been devastated by a senseless tragedy. Triggers include abuse, very graphic violence, language, S.A., torture, death of a child, explicit erotic content, grief, alcohol abuse, and workplace harassment. This can get difficult to read for about the first two-thirds of the book. But if you can hack the dark stuff, it’s worth it for the last part of the book. Therein the characters get the resolution I needed them to have, and it was made sweeter by the tribulations they experienced beforehand. It really was cathartic. One of the best things about this book is the character of Rizzo. She’s smart and sassy, and I would nominate her for Character I’d Most Likely Hang Out With In Real Life. Her storyline is mostly hinted and ends on a cliffhanger, which is vexing, but her book is coming out next. Even with the soul-crushing triggers- and there are a lot, I found that this book was worth it. I enjoyed the complexity of the characters that elevated a simple story into something really special. It is not even really a prequel, but a teaser, designed to introduce the characters and tempt the reader into reading the actual full book. The MMC is Dante, whose father is raising him to become the leader of his Mafia family one day, partly by having him beat the everlovin tar out of people who owe the family money. The FMC is Adalina, whose father beat the everlovin tar out of her when she was a child. Now that she’s grown, he orders his guards to beat the everlovin tar out of her. And we see the beatings. Her character is evidently destined to be a defiant punching bag. There is a scene that has on page child abuse. None of this makes me want to read the full novel. Honestly, I don’t think it would work for anyone, unless they really enjoy violent scenes of people being abused. I hope this book is free; there’s almost nothing to it and it would be a waste of money.

Heat- more sweet than heat because of the need for slow burn due toCat’s Stats
MMC/FMC- Bulldog and Abby
Genre- MC Romance
Length- 12 chapters; 333 pages
Heat- more sweet than heat because of the need for slow burn due to Abby’s past history and the need to accommodate Abby’s triggers. There is a very hot male striptease, though.
Series? Y
Safety? N. No cheating, though
Triggers- more triggers than an NRA convention, including but not limited to references to the following: Abuse, Cult Life, Non Consensual Pregnancy/Breeding, Religious Abuse, S.A., S.A. of a Minor, Torture, Trafficking. There’s also murder, violence, and zex.
Tropes- Abused Heroine On The Run; Adoption; Adorable Moppet; Codependency; First Love, Second Chance; Soulmates
Mewsings
What an incredible book! It’s definitely heavier on the romance than the heat, although the zexytime is there after a slow burn. The striptease that Bulldog performs for Abby is one of the more original zexytime elements that I’ve read, and very much a Fanservice (thank you, Elise) and zexy as all get out. But the zexytime scene is really about him cherishing her.
And the romance! *sigh*. It’s just breathtaking. I love a good First Love, Second Chance story. Their love is all encompassing, and has been since they were in Kindergarten together and he lost his heart to her. They have been emotionally faithful to each other, and are soulmates. The author does a wonderful job of making the reader feel and believe in that love, and it is so beautiful that at times it made my heart hurt.
Not gonna lie, this book was not easy to read because of the emotional intensity and the many triggers. It’s sometimes difficult to read past those triggers. But they are not gratuitous, and are an important element of the story. And reading this book is definitely worth it. A good book is one that makes you feel, in which case this is a great book, because it hit me in the full range of emotion, from despair to delight. If you can handle the triggers, I highly recommend this book. The whole series is excellent thus far.

Cat’s Stats MMC/FMC- Stavros and Jenna Genre- Mafia Romance (Greek Mob) Length- 28 chapters and epilogue Heat- I don’t consider it hot when Lord of Ruin
Cat’s Stats MMC/FMC- Stavros and Jenna Genre- Mafia Romance (Greek Mob) Length- 28 chapters and epilogue Heat- I don’t consider it hot when non consensual physical violence is considered foreplay. I consider it abuse. (Unless it’s consensual non consent, which is a whole different story, but clearly not the case here.) Series? Y Safety? N. Triggers- violence against/abuse of FMC perpetrated by MMC, other violence, language, explicit sex, attempted S.A., victim blaming (she had a physical response when he was beating her without her consent, and therefore he concluded that she wanted/enjoyed it. He either didn’t know or didn’t care that the body sometimes has involuntary arousal reactions during stress.), vandalism, gunshots, blood. Tropes- Captor/Captive, He Falls First (and I don’t know if she falls ever because I am DNFing this fuckery all the way home.), Enemies to Lovers Mewsings What I liked- you know, this had the potential to be a really good book. Between the captor/captive thing and the Enemies to Lovers, the author set the story up with some strong tropes. There was banter between the two that highlighted their electric connection. The world building was great, with an intricately detailed fictional crime world set in nonfictional cities. Yep, it could have been great. Then… What I didn’t- He beat her. With a belt. I thought, Not Cool, but I kept reading. Then he beat her with a switch and proceeded straight to sexual activity. And I DNF’d. It’s not BDSM without consent, it’s abuse. And she definitely wasn’t consenting to that and, indeed, had voiced her objections. In case you couldn’t tell by now, I think that’s uncalled for and inexcusable. It’s things like that that give BDSM a bad name.

He and his men rescue Pia from a rival MC where she has been held captive and abused (including S.A.) for months. This is the story of her and Howler falling in love. This story is not for the faint of heart. Read carefully the trigger warning on the author’s website before you start reading this book. There’s graphic, on page S.A. (full on R.), and violence with gallons of blood. All of trigger events are very graphic and detailed. If you can get past the triggers, the story is pretty good.
