Cat’s Stats MMC/FMC- Stavros and Jenna Genre- Mafia Romance (Greek Mob) Length- 28 chapters and epilogue Heat- I don’t consider it hot when non consensual physical violence is considered foreplay. I consider it abuse. (Unless it’s consensual non consent, which is a whole different story, but clearly not the case here.) Series? Y Safety? N. Triggers- violence against/abuse of FMC perpetrated by MMC, other violence, language, explicit sex, attempted S.A., victim blaming (she had a physical response when he was beating her without her consent, and therefore he concluded that she wanted/enjoyed it. He either didn’t know or didn’t care that the body sometimes has involuntary arousal reactions during stress.), vandalism, gunshots, blood. Tropes- Captor/Captive, He Falls First (and I don’t know if she falls ever because I am DNFing this fuckery all the way home.), Enemies to Lovers Mewsings What I liked- you know, this had the potential to be a really good book. Between the captor/captive thing and the Enemies to Lovers, the author set the story up with some strong tropes. There was banter between the two that highlighted their electric connection. The world building was great, with an intricately detailed fictional crime world set in nonfictional cities. Yep, it could have been great. Then… What I didn’t- He beat her. With a belt. I thought, Not Cool, but I kept reading. Then he beat her with a switch and proceeded straight to sexual activity. And I DNF’d. It’s not BDSM without consent, it’s abuse. And she definitely wasn’t consenting to that and, indeed, had voiced her objections. In case you couldn’t tell by now, I think that’s uncalled for and inexcusable. It’s things like that that give BDSM a bad name.
I received an advance review copy for free and sometimes that’s too expensive. This is my voluntary, (very) honest review....more

I bought the series on the author’s website yesterday for about $20, and I can say unequivocally that I wasted every penny. The author is as bad as Danielle Steel about telling rather than showing. But unlike this author, Steel’s stories are interesting and can be compelling. This is unedited dreck. I DNF’d this so hard…. I’m going to skip ahead to the next book to see if anything improves. But this is the third one, counting the prequel, so it doesn’t look promising....more

I bought the whole series together yesterday on the author’s website for twenty bucks and it was such a waste of money. Imagine if Danielle Steel wrote a novel about a biker club. Steel is the queen of the “tell, don’t show” school of horrible writing. Like her, this book has long passages telling about the characters. Unlike her, this book has a lot of basic writing errors, like verb tenses and names being mixed up. Steel is pretty awful, but at least her books are edited and she writes about a world she is either familiar with or that she researches. This series is written by someone who has obviously never been around a Motorcycle Club, or done research about it. The zexytime read like the worst IKEA sex. As in he did this, this, and that, and then…. I expected it to say “Tab A went into Slot B” next. I don’t think the author knows how people talk, much less how MC members talk. When one of the members started talking about “my rugged exterior” and he wasn’t being ironic, I DNF’d this book all the way home. I can’t even imagine what this series is going to say about the bratva. I’m going to give reading them a try, to see if I can get any of my money’s worth....more
