Charley Davidson and Reyes Farrow: That thing that happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object
Charley, our sassy Grim Reaper is back from her century long banishment to a hell dimension, aka Marmalade, that has no light, no hair products and no coffee. Back on earth, Albuquerque is been taken over by the hell dimension that Charley and Reyes previously opened in The Trouble with Twelfth Grave. Shades are possessing people and dinning on their souls then crossing over to the earthly plane. Charley & Co. has three days to stop this apocalyptic event. There are a few side plots going on as well. Missing people, dead bodies, finding clues. There's always so much going on with Charley.
After reading the final book of the amazing Charley Davidson series I have bittersweet feelings. I'm sad to let go of my favorite Grim Reaper, who became by bff from the very first book. And I'm going to miss the rest of the group - Reyes, Cookie, Garret, Ubie the whole cast of quirky, colorful characters. But I'm also glad Darynda Jones ended this when it was still going strong. As much as I adore Charley, all good things must come to an end. I'm looking forward to Beep's spinoff.
There were a few minor issues - The twist involving uncle Bob. It was very implausible. There never was an inkling about Robert being special. It just came out of nowhere so I had problem digesting that. I didn't like what happened with Gemma and David Taft. I thought the ending was a bit rushed. I wanted this to be more Charley and Reyes book. So I wanted a bit more time with them. The author just ended it without them saying goodbye to the rest of the crew, which I didn't like.
It was more like a step towards Beep's storyline. Characters that will play part in Beep's army are already lined up. Extras taken out. The plot tidied up and the battlefield ready for Beep to take over....more

A novella from Reyes' point of view!!
It recounts the events from First Grave from the Right, and provides insight into Reyes' character. It made me fall more in love with him! Again. What a crappy life he had and how Charley kept him sane. Thankfully the abuse wasn't detailed, still it broke my heart....more

“It was his idea. I didn’t want to send him into that hell dimension. I was going to go in myself. Check shit out. Come back no worse for the wear. But noooo. The man with the balls had to go in because he’s manly with manly balls and a penis to guide him. And now he’s all savage and wild, but he still has his balls. That’s all that’s important, by God. His man parts.”
"Gotta go," I said, hurrying him along. "Have to get this man to a hospital for multiple stab wounds." "He was stabbed?" she asked with a concerned gasp. "Not yet, but the night is young.”
"I don't want to look pretty. I want to look otherworldly and vaguely threatening. MEME"

I'm really enjoying this series! Witty dialogues and likable characters. But Oberon is the best!
Oberon looked at me. "I know that has to make you sad. But call to me instead, Atticus. I'll always answer. Your fly has been open all this time, by the way, and Granuaile hasn't said a thing." "Thanks, buddy," I said silently as I tried to surreptitiously zip up my jeans. "See? I got your back AND your front. I deserve a treat."

After the culmination of the awesome trilogy it took me awhile to get into this version of Scadrial. Had to work out a few things because 341 years have passed since the The Hero of Ages. Liked Wax but Wayne was fun and at times annoying but I really enjoyed his interaction with the rest of the cast. The world building and magic system is great as usual and Brandon Sanderson is a brilliant writer. Can't wait to read the next one. ...more
